My husband’s grandparents speak Spanish, and very little English. We have a group chat with the whole family, and there’s a mixture of Apple and Android users, so whenever someone uses a ‘👍’ emoji on a shared picture, the chat generates a message saying ‘liked an image’. Now the Abuelos think that it’s normal speech, and send messages saying ‘loved an images’, and even the occasional Spanish counterpart. 🤦🏼♀️
My family is split between Android and Apple users. The Apple users love reacting to everyone's messages in the group chat, and I'm an Android user, so I get those "liked/emphasized/laughed at __" messages every time. Sometimes, when there are a lot of those, my dad, a fellow Android user, will start poking fun at them by *manually writing reaction messages to those reactions.* The result is a lot of moments where half the conversation is [Original Message] > "(Mom) laughed at "[Original Message]"" "(Sister) laughed at "[Original Message]"" "(Dad) laughed at "Mom laughed at "[Original Message]""" I want to die

So when it's not just your name (or sometimes even when it is), people probably wouldn't realize that you didn't manually add that weird part to the end of your text, your phone does it automatically to _all_ of your texts. And in certain contexts it could even look like it's part of the last sentence, making it hard to tell what you're even talking about.

I've had experience with email signatures, of course, but I was today years old when I learned that text signatures were ever a thing. The absolute horror.
7:08 comes from the creepypasta "Smile.jpg" which tells if you see an image of Smiledog, he will haunt your dreams every night telling you to "Spread the word" until you either send the image to someone else, or you go insane and die of suicide. It's a classic that goes pretty far back and scared me badly back in 2011 when I was younger.
Tbh creepypasta was my introduction to horror, which weirdly enough resulted in me, as an adult, laughing audibly at the end of The Conjuring, and being actually kind of terrified by the movie Censor (it's not creepypasta influenced per se, it's just fairly meta so it tapped into that part of my brain.)
My Dad's texting signature for a while was "That's a fact, Jack" which in addition to being a reference to A&E's Duck Dynasty, was also actually a pretty good signature that worked in practically any context
One Christmas when I was a kid I got an email from my cousin asking what I'd got with "Sent from my Iphone" on the end. Since I'd never seen that before I immediately assumed it was him trying to show off what his parents got him, so I responded with something snarky and passive agressive. We have not spoken properly since.
When I was like 11, my best friend and I always described things we liked as being "epic-ness", which we shortened to "cness". That was my signature for a while. Just "Cness", and just like the person at 3:20, my phone didn't have a text signature setting, so I manually typed out "Cness" for every. Single. Text. I. Sent.
God I remember text signatures. When I was in middle school I thought I was so cool for setting my text signature to song lyrics from emo bands. Of course this was also back before texts were seen in a chat and you could only view one message at a time so it wasn’t like the same sentence appeared several times.
My favorite thing was when I would write a really considerate and lengthy email to a teacher and they would respond like this: "Ok you can get the assignment done tomorrow morning. Sent from my iPhone"
I reckon text signatures were supposed to be the phone version of forum signatures, but forum signatures were actually separated form the messages and made sense.
"Ugh, i told you already it was a mistake. FROM CHICKEN LEGS" "what? 😂" "This isn't the time for jokes, It was a mistake. I'm not doing it again, just leave me alone already. FROM CHICKEN LEGS" "ok 😂"
I am so glad that my experiences of signatures have mostly been "Sent from XYZ". Something I myself forget to change though, but not the worst thing I guess. Although I do appreciate the emails you have with professional services/companies and in every reply of a long conversation they have to include the same block of info every time. Yeah I think I got it the first, second and twentieth time lol but to make I understand, send it through with your reply on the 34th time. Same with the leaving emails threads with "kind regards, many thanks, etc". I just do it the once, but people add this as a signature too, like how many times you going to give me your best wishes lol
This is a similar phenomenon to Discord statuses. I had a whole ✨aesthetic dreamy✨ phase when I was 16 where I would set my status to pretty quotes by L. M. Montgomery with emojis like 🌼 and 🌌 . not actually a bad phase. Now my statuses are things like 'lego jurassic world is a horror game' Edit: annnnd here's my thanks for the likes and comments edit like man guys it is an honor to have so many responses on a comment under a video by the great Matt Rose
Have you already done a video about stores with strange names? I just remembered that in Peabody, Massachusetts there is a liquor store that’s actually called “Bunghole Liquors.” I’ve driven by it before a few times and it’s quite an experience
I had this obsession with quoting Charlie the Unicorn in very specifically sized, bolded, and italicized text for my email signature. Each word was appropriately formatted based on how it was said. I would change it every week or so as my favorite quotes changed/different quotes became inside jokes with my best friend. Glad I never sent anyone an email with those... at least, not that I can remember.
I won't lie, before this, I didn't even know that the signature feature existed. So I definitely relate to the brother at the end of the video. Is it like an Apple thing-?
@@Woopsdiditagain android also has the text signature thing, but to my understanding the "sent from my iphone" addition to emails being on by default is mainly apple, although I think some older android phones from certain brands have had it on by default in the past. I've never had it happen to me though. Also I remember a few of my friends having text signatures, but they were the type of middle schoolers to get into whatever drama was going on in the school that week, and my impression was that it was mainly for those types. Thankfully they grew out of it!
Text signatures were a problem for phones that had those limited minutes. Sometimes, a message be long enough to where the signature would have to be a separate message which cost an extra minute if you read it.
Hey. I’ve been needing to say this for a while, but I didn’t know how. Here goes. I really like you. You’re really special to me and I hope this doesn’t change our friendship at all. Just needed to get this off my chest - BigWorm on dat Jesus Flow

Oh my goodness that's actual gold

Probably tryin’ to make a change :-\
When I was like 11, my best friend and I always described things we liked as being "epic-ness", which we shortened to "cness". That was my signature for a while. Just "Cness", and just like the person at 3:20, my phone didn't have a text signature setting, so I manually typed out "Cness" for every. Single. Text. I. Sent.
matt says it's insanity, i say it's cness

God I remember text signatures. When I was in middle school I thought I was so cool for setting my text signature to song lyrics from emo bands. Of course this was also back before texts were seen in a chat and you could only view one message at a time so it wasn’t like the same sentence appeared several times.
Emo music gang lessgo
If I had access to text signatures I'd probably still do that now honestly, catch me ending every text with MCR lyrics.
@@aromanticfranziskavonkarma I would _totally_ do that, petition to bring back text signatures? :p
@@RyanTosh Signed for sure, I think I'd use lyrics from either SCARECROW or Demoliton Lovers.
@@RyanTosh signed lol

My favorite thing was when I would write a really considerate and lengthy email to a teacher and they would respond like this:
"Ok you can get the assignment done tomorrow morning.
Sent from my iPhone"
I reckon text signatures were supposed to be the phone version of forum signatures, but forum signatures were actually separated form the messages and made sense.
They were supposed to be the phone version of letter/email signatures.
"Ugh, i told you already it was a mistake. FROM CHICKEN LEGS"
"what? 😂"
"This isn't the time for jokes, It was a mistake. I'm not doing it again, just leave me alone already. FROM CHICKEN LEGS"
"ok 😂"
I am so glad that my experiences of signatures have mostly been "Sent from XYZ". Something I myself forget to change though, but not the worst thing I guess.
Although I do appreciate the emails you have with professional services/companies and in every reply of a long conversation they have to include the same block of info every time. Yeah I think I got it the first, second and twentieth time lol but to make I understand, send it through with your reply on the 34th time. Same with the leaving emails threads with "kind regards, many thanks, etc". I just do it the once, but people add this as a signature too, like how many times you going to give me your best wishes lol
4:10 is the funniest shit I've seen in a long time. Can't a person wear all black in peace? IM NOT GOING GOTH!!!!!!
This is a similar phenomenon to Discord statuses. I had a whole ✨aesthetic dreamy✨ phase when I was 16 where I would set my status to pretty quotes by L. M. Montgomery with emojis like 🌼 and 🌌 . not actually a bad phase. Now my statuses are things like 'lego jurassic world is a horror game'
Edit: annnnd here's my thanks for the likes and comments edit like man guys it is an honor to have so many responses on a comment under a video by the great Matt Rose
fair! i love her writing
but lego jurassic world is a horror game 😢
Man discord statuses are wild

I usually have mine set to complaints. This month, it's about the national digital infrastructure.
My discord status is "dead inside" I'm pretty sure
Another great video. Thank you Matt Rose
5:18 He nailed that impression for that conversation
Have you already done a video about stores with strange names? I just remembered that in Peabody, Massachusetts there is a liquor store that’s actually called “Bunghole Liquors.” I’ve driven by it before a few times and it’s quite an experience
I have never heard of these in my life until now

As an Irish person I can confirm that mair, gaire, gra is Irish for live laugh love
Matt Rose, I just wanted to say how much I love your videos, whenever you upload it makes my day.

Big thanks but next Monday's video is even funnier 👍
that first screenshot has been stuck in my head for YEARS. it's not even funny but whenever i remember it it makes me laugh
I won't lie, before this, I didn't even know that the signature feature existed.
So I definitely relate to the brother at the end of the video.
Is it like an Apple thing-?
I think it's an early 2000s thing, and I think also Apple?
@@ussxrequin ohh okay, that explains my confusion. Thanks! :)
@@revenevan11 ohh I see!
And whatever floats their boat :)
My old flip phone had a tech signature. I’m pretty sure it was just a heart, but I don’t remember. It was so fun watching this video though.
I once changed my work email signature to include "sent from my {complete make and model of my workstation}".

Just needed to get this off my chest
