Give me a break. These exploits exist for a reason. UA-cam wants content creators to be able to scam the system, because it's the companies paying for the adds who are getting scammed, not UA-cam. The scary part about this isn't the exploits, but that UA-cam will just jump into their system and modify numbers live rather than fix underlying systems. This lets them decide who gets to reap the rewards of their broken system and who doesn't.

Google is notorious for it's "automation first" approach, because they really couldn't operate any other way at the scale they have. That fact that I've never heard of you and don't usually watch videos about the UA-cam algorithm, yet randomly got recommended this video I think means the exploit is working.
That's how major corporations work. Operate quietly within the bureaucracy and you will accomplish next to nothing after years of effort. Brit really went from breaking games to breaking the fabric of social media he’s evolving too quickly I hope he doesn’t end up like a Boeing whistleblower soon
There's something oddly heartwarming in knowing YT's code and systems, a major tech giant, are still kept together with virtual glue, hopes and tears of the dev team, just like the code you come up with at your first year of college/bootcamp. Some things never change
It's about time that we, the content creators, made youtube sweat in fear and worry and not the other way around. Side note, I think spiff's channel is being ACTIVELY monitored and refreshed, I've seen the likes go from 18k to 19k like 3 times while watching the video and the view count is actually going up in the description as I watch. Not sure if this is a new feature I just never noticed or what but uh, yeah.
Yeah, the view count is going up like crazy, within 18 minutes the video has gotten over 11k views, views were at 206k at the start of the video, when I refreshed at the end (because of this comment) it spiked up to 217k
Content creator, is kind of a weird term. At least in my mind, it invokes the image of someone opening a sluice gate and unleashing a torrent of slop into a waiting trough.
I realized this when doing my own, small videos, i would regularly view my own video to see if i did something wrong or off and every time i looked, my view had gone up by at least 1, this is how i found out about this method but i didnt realize it meant anything because i only viewed my own videos as a means to improve my own quality
As an unashamedly tea drinking American, I approve this video. Thank you Spiff for killing so many games and platforms for our entertainment. You deserve every drop of money from the most broken livestream ever. Also the video is presently at 337k views, 39k likes, and 19k likes.

656,273 views (and 66k likes) Spiff can do stuff like this all the time as far as i'm concerned. The only way to get UA-cam to fix itself is to abuse it, while telling everyone how you're abusing it and how they can help. Total transparency for the betterment of everyone.
1,288,495 views. Just a test to see if your "like" thing for the videos ALSO works for liking comments... Because if so... Spiffing Brit viewers are about to own all UA-cam debates in terms of appearing to be liked for the foreseeable future.
A few more details to note: only Chrome requires you to have all of the tabs visible for this to work. If you'd switched everyone to Firefox, and made sure they had disabled tab sleeping, you could have easily of pulled this off without having all of the tabs viewable. On Twitch, there was a limited time where a window had to be active to count as a viewer. This really sucked for anyone who watched a live stream on 2nd or 3rd monitor, and viewer counts tanked as a result, so the change was undone. This however, NEVER applied to Firefox, only Chrome. Still, in general, if you love your streamer on any platform you really should be using Firefox, as Firefox doesn't support a lot of this weird spying stuff that Chrome has added.
I love how UA-cam only found out about it from an employee being on Twitter/X instead of their own platform where they must have analytics just the same or even more than the streaming channel.
This is hilarious, one live stream broke viewership (twice), broke the like counter and most importantly of all absolutely destroyed advertising 🤣 You really keep UA-cam busy, never change Spiff.
@cliptracer8980 yes and if you actually watched the video, you'll know the live stream I'm talking about did all of the things I mentioned. Did a monkey type your comment for you or was there some other unknown purpose to it?
I almost didn't click this video because I wrote off the thumbnail as clickbait. Then I realized who the video was created by and clicked it immediately. Fantastic video as always
I have never before, nor will ever again, pick a worse time to upload a video than the literal second that a Spiff livestream goes live. Got to take part and watch on multiple devices though, so it was worth it :D
I remember waking up, grabbing my phone and seeing a live-stream from Brit. That was the craziest moment of my life. This guy never livestreams, so I open it and I just hear him saying "just keep opening new tabs, task manager close the browser and open it again and restore tabs". I was so tired I had no idea what was going on, lol.
The discrepancy between the analytics view count vs view count on the stream could be due the fact that analytics are often done by copying data into a database dedicated specifically for analytics stuff. The copying of data doesn't happen often, and certainly doesn't update as often as the "true" view count does, so I can foresee discrepancies like this happening if engineers have to quickly triage such an exceptionally urgent bug.
The thing is, UA-cam has absolutely no problem with showing 20 ads to one viewer at once. They don't even care if that thing gets exploited. Because every time you show an ad, 70% of that revenue goes to UA-cam and you get only a small cut.
It doesn’t directly cost them money, but it does lower the value of their ads. If livestream ads consistently get lower conversion because their consistently getting shown on screens that no one’s actually watching, then google can’t charge as much for them, so they absolutely do care about that.
@@danielfay8963 it can also get them sued by their clients (the advertisers), because an advertiser is not paying primo money for 6 impressions on the same secondary display. In fact that's already an issue because of a WSG report that ads are showing up on "low-quality sites" and inappropriate contexts.
@@danielfay8963 yes but if the window is kept active then there isn't any real way to know if the ad was acutally seen or not, if zthey don't change things. so as long as this "ad-view-multiplying" exploit isn't public enough to reach advertisers youtube can act like those views of the ads are real, even though they know that it's just exploited/botted. now if this knowledge reaches advertisers they have to change things in order to ensure advertisers that theire ads are seen, otherwise the case you wrote happens where they can't charge as much anymore.
UA-cam has been helping regular people make profit off of big corporations through ad revenue. They also provide a space for smaller businesses to have a somewhat fair footing in marketing their products and services to a large audience that they wouldnt be able to reach otherwise. UA-cam is not the enemy. The ad companies will likely try to have UA-cam implement a system to prevent bots or exploits from raising ad view count so they know they arent paying for any wasted ad space, or they will just renegotiate with UA-cam lowering the amount they pay for ad space since they dont know how many ad views are legitimate. If anything happens whatsoever, it will ultimately hurt creators the most.
@@danielfay8963When the ads don't do well, the advertising platform tells the advertiser their ad must not be that good. They make money either way. Advertising platforms are designed to make a target amount of money and profit, regardless of performance. I once bought ads for something from Google. They charged me more, because the ads weren't popular. If more people clicked on the ad, I'd have to pay less per click. I was paying over 10x per click compared to the "best" ads".
I love the metatextual nature of this video. A channel dedicated to exposing glitches and exploits in games doing it to itself and the hosting platform. Well played Spiff, well played.
It truly was a legendary experience being a part of the stream Multiple tabs on multiple devices Spamming chat Reloading the page Graphs And we may or may not have BOIL some viewers
Hey Spiffing Brit, I normally love your videos but this time you said something offensive that ruined my day. If you see this, please consider not putting the word “people” next to “Fr*nch”. Sincerely, A concerned supporter.
I am giggling at the thought that inside most UA-cam departments there's a big red button with Spiff written on it that sounds a massive alarm across the building
I was deeply upset that I was unable to meaningfully attend the livestream, but I heard all about it on Spiff’s very lovely discord. It is amazing how not only Spiff, but such a dedicated fanbase can keep UA-cam on their toes. And the view count is now at 176,482 views with approximately 11k comments and 23k likes.
Funny thing about the two anime girl styled streamers around 1:05~ is they're in Hololive which is a group that routinely has members getting streamers with over 100,000 viewers. Maybe the secret was becoming anime all along.
Huge shout-out to the browser Vivaldi, which let's you set each tab to periodically refresh. Having 40 tabs which each refresh one after the other over the course of two minutes felt amazing.
I've noticed recently that YT made a change. If you just scroll by a video in your feed, it shows up in your view history. I'm sure that's exploitable. Have fun Spiff.
It is not new. I considered it an annoyance and found a way to not trigger it on the app. Don't close anything you are finished watching until you find the next vid. The auto watch doesn't trigger that way.

It was an absolute honor to be a participant of this. Had the stream open on my phone, Switch, TV, and about 100 tabs on a laptop. It was beautiful.
You can use UA-cam on the Nintendo Switch?
Yes
@@GoldDudeMan Yep same with other platforms such as xbox.
100 tabs? I want your laptop. Can you please duplicate it for me?
omfg lollllll
Spiff owes some of his audience a new CPU. And UA-cam owes him a job as a chief exploit officer.
But that would make him CE… _Oh-h-h-h-h…_ How very Spiffy of you.
yes
Oh, THAT'S what CEO stands for.
1:37- "UA-cam is a very simple, meritocratic platform"...lol...you sure about that? 🤣🤣🤣
This stream was priceless, the sheer amount of people who joined and were utterly bamboozled by Spiff had my laughing so hard.

hi just following general spiffs orders
The video was 5 hours ago….
I am so lucky to have been a part of this glitch, the live-stream was hilarious. Keep it going Spiff, keep breaking UA-cam.
Always!
That fact that I've never heard of you and don't usually watch videos about the UA-cam algorithm, yet randomly got recommended this video I think means the exploit is working.
I just wanted to say i was going to like the video when you told me to, but i already liked. also its 1.6 million views rn :)
That's how major corporations work. Operate quietly within the bureaucracy and you will accomplish next to nothing after years of effort. Create enough embarrassing noise that someone at a director level hears about it online and suddenly sweeping but half baked changes are being implemented overnight.

Brit really went from breaking games to breaking the fabric of social media he’s evolving too quickly I hope he doesn’t end up like a Boeing whistleblower soon
And this finally turns up in my Recommendations Feed...I wonder why.
Not sure if this is a new feature I just never noticed or what but uh, yeah.
hi
hi
Yeah, the view count is going up like crazy, within 18 minutes the video has gotten over 11k views, views were at 206k at the start of the video, when I refreshed at the end (because of this comment) it spiked up to 217k
Content creator, is kind of a weird term. At least in my mind, it invokes the image of someone opening a sluice gate and unleashing a torrent of slop into a waiting trough.
Thank you for mentioning us! We are big fans of yours 🤩

I liked all 3 of your videos you've done 100 times each
Bro vid iq is here???? wow
1.638,908 views, and it's trending/recommended to me despite not being subscribed. Probably due to the Mr. Beast drama and your title. :)

Might want to rethink that last part.
Look at vid description for more numeric detail.
Usually when someone breaks everything they touch, its a bad thing. This man, this magnificent man has made it so fun and entertaining
I imagine Im only getting reccomended this despite being subscribed and bell iconed is because this doesnt work anymore

Spiff can do stuff like this all the time as far as i'm concerned. The only way to get UA-cam to fix itself is to abuse it, while telling everyone how you're abusing it and how they can help. Total transparency for the betterment of everyone.

I love the fact you made a 3 hour stream of “breaking UA-cam,” and latter a tweet was what called their attention
Damn this aged like fine wine XD
Love you spiff
Old software tester here. We did this to stress test a server back in the 1990s.
And here we are in 2023 and UA-cam is basing its metrics on it.
1,288,495 views. Just a test to see if your "like" thing for the videos ALSO works for liking comments... Because if so... Spiffing Brit viewers are about to own all UA-cam debates in terms of appearing to be liked for the foreseeable future.
Nope Sadge...
the first coment I've ever left on youtube, do something good with it!
Still, in general, if you love your streamer on any platform you really should be using Firefox, as Firefox doesn't support a lot of this weird spying stuff that Chrome has added.
running 76 tabs atm , 41 are youtube tabs but sadly only one tab enabled on ms edge
yeah that will be because edge is based on chromium - so it will have the same effect as using chrome
Oh boy, here we go again
i use brave browser and/or safari so L on you
I wonder if this applies to the better chromium browsers like Vivaldi and Brave
I love how UA-cam only found out about it from an employee being on Twitter/X instead of their own platform where they must have analytics just the same or even more than the streaming channel.
lmao, Right?
They don't understand yt either and they manage it.
You just do it when America sleeps. Get away with anything then!
This is hilarious, one live stream broke viewership (twice), broke the like counter and most importantly of all absolutely destroyed advertising 🤣
You really keep UA-cam busy, never change Spiff.
The video was 5 hours ago….
@cliptracer8980 yes and if you actually watched the video, you'll know the live stream I'm talking about did all of the things I mentioned. Did a monkey type your comment for you or was there some other unknown purpose to it?
11 months later got this recommended
Damn this could be big. The advertizers could sue youtube for this. They have probably been paying youtube way more than they should have for years.
I imagine there's a whole division at UA-cam headquarters to monitor spiff to make sure he doesn't utterly destroy the platform
I was live for this and opening all the tabs and helping out with using all 32GB of my RAM !!! it was a BLAST. Thanks SpiffCo. You rock!
As of 16th of August 2024, this has 1.6 million views.
This was also recommended to me, a Frenchman. Weird.
Same here lol but i was on mobile so i couldnt join in with the exploit
@@morgster1260 Same brother. I tried, but multiple tabs in a mobile browser didn't work (I think)
Just here to comment, perhaps enticing the algorithm to recommend this beautiful video to someone else, several years after it happened
E
Extremely fortunate to have been apart of the livestream, what a wicked experience.
Nah, ive watched every video he uploads when he uploads it and leave a like to let myself know i have in fact watched it before. How did i miss this
The thing is, UA-cam has absolutely no problem with showing 20 ads to one viewer at once.

Assuming they actually had such high tech, it's probably just one guy running up and down the hallways. :V
I was deeply upset that I was unable to meaningfully attend the livestream, but I heard all about it on Spiff’s very lovely discord. It is amazing how not only Spiff, but such a dedicated fanbase can keep UA-cam on their toes.
And the view count is now at 176,482 views with approximately 11k comments and 23k likes.
spiff is the chaotic good of UA-cam, yeah he does some crazy stuff but it help UA-cam be better as a platform.

(Obligatory "I was there" comment)
Welp, I was working at the time of the Livestream, but it still makes a really good story.
Spiff really keeps the UA-cam engineers on their toes.
I've noticed recently that YT made a change. If you just scroll by a video in your feed, it shows up in your view history. I'm sure that's exploitable. Have fun Spiff.
Yes that was one of the exploits utilized during the stream as well.
It is not new. I considered it an annoyance and found a way to not trigger it on the app. Don't close anything you are finished watching until you find the next vid. The auto watch doesn't trigger that way.
