*Who should wear a black suit?*
Hello sir! I have extremely dark brown/almost black hair and fairer skin than most. What colors would be good for me?

I think everyone looks good in a black suit. You always go back to the confidence thing and I agree...if a guy feels like a million bucks in a Reservoir Dogs suit, his confidence will radiate out from him, and I think when a guy has that confident body language, people around them will assume that he knows what he's doing, even if he doesn't.
I have the palest, clearest white skin on the planet, and medium brown hair. So, not exactly within the guidelines for a black suit. However, LOVE wearing an all black suit. I like the way it looks, and I feel great in it.

I only have one suit, its black, I switch up ties and shirts, and bam, new look every time, I use white shirts blue shirts, black shirts, grey shirts, switch up the tie colors , and nobody knows I have one suit....like Tom Ford, one suit, save your money boys, cheaper to buy shirts and ties, and alter your look the cheap way. I only wear a suit a few times a month, so no need for a closet full of 'em Cheers!

I would say that if you feel confident in wearing black, I think it would be great. I used to wear my concert band tuxedo, wearing different shirt and tie combos with it, and I always felt that it fit me very well.
i wear a suit, every day of every year. it is the attire of the true well mannered fellow.

@azfanification I wouldn't say exactly the same, but if an off-the-rack suit is a good fit to begin with a bit of alteration can make it look very good, and it will cost less than a tailored suit. You won't be able to change little details of the style to suit your taste, but not everyone always needs that. We actually did a full video on bespoke vs. made-to-measure vs. off-the-rack not to long ago - you might check the archives for it!
@berner A red shirt's maybe a little too aggressive for business wear in general, at least in most offices. Black and red'll look good at social evening events (better than red and navy, to my mind), but I'd keep it out of the boardroom.

@sarringtoniv YES - I'll be looking to do an entire series for dark tones. Brazilians, Cubans, Ethiopians, South Africans, Filipinos - so many ethnicities to address - I'll try to stay with colors as heritage/culture as it applies to style is a whole nother animal!

black suit, crisp white shirt, vibrant single coloured tie (preferably red, but blue or yellow or purple are also good). the best combination for when you want to stand out in a crowd, keep peoples attention (when giving a presentation) or to just generally show people they should pay attention to you. i love wearing this.

@Maestorxiphos FYI - know exactly what you're talking about and will actually be releasing a ebook here soon specifically for men of African decent and dark features because 95% of style advice out there does not apply to their unique colors and complexions. As for the backlash against black - mostly seen on the forums so wanted to face it head-on.
great vid...thanks, you just made me realize that i wanted a black suit because of the contrasting effect...on top of my head, i would probably say that black suits are the mistake proof ones that they go with any color shirts and pants...i guess i was wrong...haha...i always thought that charcoal grey and mid grey suits make me look older...i think, i could be wrong then...

I worn black suit on almost every exam days in the Universty. I looked one of the most well dressed guy in the room comparie with the other.
I think it was too formal sometimes and uncomfortable specially in the summerdays. I bought a more casual light navy/blue suit wich can be very formal but it can be worn in less formal events like a job interview, a party etc. If you like to be the most well dressed guy in the room then go for black suit and black neck tie with a classic windsor knot.
For me black suit is only for funerals or wedding.

I was never able to afford a black suit, but luckily the one I got my hands on crashed on earth from the sky. Ever since I had it I've been having nightmares, but it makes me feel so good.
I have a couple of black suits. I don't like to wear them as much though I am glad that I have them. I would wear them for more formal occasions and during the colder seasons. I would never wear my black suit with a pastel shirt or a black tie (too much black). I do think that I could wear my charcoal suit instead of my black suit though. I would say that black suits/clothing do not look flattering on those with blond hair and light complexions.

I'd say don't buy a black suit as your first suit if you actually intend to (or are expected to) wear one often. However, most men only wear suits to special occasions in which case black is the default and safest choice. I certainly wouldn't want to be the one sticking out with a brown suit while attending a funeral or even a wedding. A black suit is not the most versatile one but it's the one you will need at some point. Plus, if you're in shape and you have darker complexion it can look super sharp.

I chose a black suit because it was kind of expected for the job environment I was entering (Japanese office). I have black hair and olive skin (Italian and Corsican ancestry), so maybe it works for me anyway.

Brown skin, black hair. I recently purchased a black suit for my first suit. I will be using this suit for work interviews,meetings and a weekly work suit. As a pilot, I find it's not coincidental that most airline flight crew uniforms are black--and there's hardly anything funereal about them. I can recall only two airlines in the past that did not have flight crews wear black: United and North Eastern. Today, I believe both United and American have gone to Navy and Jetblue, of course, wears blue.
Black does suggest, as you said, authority and influence.

Okay, I have a lot of clergy and priest friends who must wear a black suit every day. What are some options to for them to break up the monotony. Different collars, single/double breasted, With shirts with different types of cuffs, types of shoes which should be worn. They have to wear black suits, what can they do for changes.
*Shirt:* different shirt color if appropriate, other types of shirt collars, different fabric than common cotton or cotton-polyester blend. Start wearing shirts with cufflinks.
*Tie:* could go no tie, or butterfly if appropriate. Different color or pattern. Or different fabric options, instead of traditional silk, could pick a woven cotton or wool.
*Suit:* add/remove pocket square. No vent or double vent instead of single vent. Peak or shawl lapels instead of common notched lapels. Double breasted instead of single breasted. More or fewer buttons. Different fit: could go modern/slim fit instead of a more traditional fit or the other way around. Different color (yes, there's more than 1 black color, some are even darker, I have one called "superblack" or could go with a dark charcoal maybe).
*Shoes:* There are many different shoe styles, research it. This channel has some videos on shoes as well.
*Socks:* There's so many sock options instead of all-black. From pastel colors to high-saturation colors, to colorful, but muted and neutral earth tones.
*Accessories:* Watches, tie clips/bars/pins, glasses, different belt styles or buckles or suspenders instead of a belt. Could perhaps go with a dark brown belt instead of black. Probably depends where you live, since some places it may be looked upon unfavorably to have a belt not matching the shoes or wearing brown with black.

IINFO if you have to buy a black suit buy a good guality suit. So the black colour will always be black. And the best of the best buy a dark grey suit even if you touch something dirty its ok .

i have a question about fully custom made suits vs. off the rack (which are very close to a good fit) and are slightly altered to get the perfect fit. I visited a shop which recommended the latter since it costs less but they said that the effect of the perfect fit would be the same. I'd like to know your opinion on this matter.
