I find the preference for suit colours change. I think everyone is wearing that true blue colour (especially when I watch political TV here in Canada) at the moment and the medium grey was hard to find a couple of years ago, but it seems to be more popular again. Do you ever look back at a video like this and consider doing an update?
I purchased a "true blue" several months ago and receive comments and compliments each time I wear it. I think it has become a bit more common now, as I've seen several men's stores now carrying this color. It is one of my favorites, to be sure.
True blue is readily available here in the UK and is a great colour. Makes the individual wearing it look very sharp indeed without it being overbearing.
I think a good suit color to consider would be a dark burgundy because it isn't that jarring but it would make you pop. It'd go really great with warm colors and it somewhat easy to match with and is a great alternative to brown.
I'm 18, 3 days ago I bought my 1st suit for prom. It's navy blue. I've been subscribed to this channel for over 2 years I think. Thanks to your videos and lessons it was easy to pick the one that suits me well, and for that I thank you. (I could take some pictures if you're interested)

Just watched this, I've found myself a very nice true blue suit that I intend to wear to a family wedding, I originally wasn't sold on the colour, but as soon as I put it on, it just looked incredible. Since buying it, I've been finding myself thinking about what would go well with it, and I think I have a very good outfit ready to go. A white shirt, a paisley tie (majority purple with orange/gold highlights,) gold pocket square, and tan shoes + belt. I've never really been one to focus on the pinpoint details of what I wear, but this suit has changed that perception of myself.
I'm sure you've covered this before but could you please address tie/pocket square selection. I.e. colours, patterns and when/with what to wear them Love the content, has been a massive factor in my own journey to being better dressed.
I really like that dark Army green color you're wearing in this video. I think it's great for autumn and is going to be more useful than white. In surprised it wasn't on here.
I would personally put charcoal at the top for someone in my age bracket (early 30s). It is extremely easy to match shirts and ties, and it's a color that looks good on pretty much everyone. I think the navy blue looks a little old fashioned/traditional. A bit too conserative for my taste, but it's a good option nonetheless. For first time buyers: please stay away from pinstripes! Take a plain suit and buy a few nice shirts and ties instead - you'll have much more variation to work with, instead of being "the guy with the pinstripe suit".
In Israel, people rarely wear suits, work attire is quite casual. I have been searching for a medium grey suit everywhere, and they barely sell them here. 90% of the suits are black, 7% are navy and the remaining 3% tend to be a dark charcoal grey. You may see other colors and lighter greys here and there, but they are few and far between.
I feel like black suits (aside from funerals) are a bit more common here in Europe than in America. Especially higher ranked persons do wear them from time to time in the office or as a semi-formal look.

i personaly only wear black, charcoal grey and darker grey suits/blazers because its my style but i think navy or midnight blue should be in every suit-lovers wardrobe
+overTIMe Yeah in countries like Belgium, Holland, Germany and France, black and darker (right up to nearly black) charcoals are very typical winter colors. Navy and medium grey is more sth you will see in the summer months. Britan is more like the states in terms of colors, but often with a lot more motives, most notably pinstripes. Also a lot of brown shoes I see the last couple of years here in Europe, but they don't go well with dark suits imo.
Good piece, I just sent it to my kids. They don't like listening to me and don't need suits often but they need to think how each addition compliments and works with the other pieces in their wardobe.
The other day, I went to a thrift store and found so many nice suit jackets and sport coats that fit my shoulders perfectly…but my massive gut made them impossible to button! 😂 I’m already I. The process of losing weight (I’ve lost almost 20 lbs), and at first it bummed me out that I still had a ways to go before they could fit me. But, I realized I could see those jackets as a challenge, and I became inspired to lose more weight. Someday, I’ll be able to buy suits off the rack and I’m real excited for it.

I feel like a good option for men who don't wear a suit everyday is to have 2 traditional suits in navy and charcoal. Then have one casual suit that you enjoy wearing that shows some of your personality and helps you to stand out. Something you can easily dress up or down. For me, it's an olive green suit with a prince of whales pattern. It's something I can wear because I love wearing it, not because I "have to wear a suit". One of the worst mistakes men make with suits is not wearing them enough. So many guys spend 500+ on a suit and only wear it a handful of times because they either don't like it or don't have the confidence to wear one when other men aren't.
i have a concern. U said black is risky and u use it for funeral. but the funny thing is in my country(Bangladesh) Black is the most used color for suit. Black is the most used color for university students. specially business students. We use black when we r going to a very important presentation. Blue(navy) is considered good color for kids in my country. White is for wedding, or high class corporate party if u r the boss. Gray(dark,medium, light) can be used in any case here. Brown now considered to be obsolete. because when ever we go to a tailor and ask for brown they laughed a lot. even in fabric store, brown is sold with a discount price. these are perception in my location. :) however i like the information from the video. When i will go USA/UK for MBA this will be helpful.
That will vary from culture to culture. In our culture, it's either very formal or for funerals. This video was made with this culture in mind keeping as many universals in mind. Some Asians wear white to funerals & we wear that color as a laid back fun in the sun color. Ultimately, somewhere something won't jive, it's just a given.

So many people talk about the one or two essential suits, but not a lot of content makers go past that. Due to this I found this video to be especially helpful.
This is a perfect guide since I’m heading to a wedding in September. Might go with either charcoal gray or regular gray for it. I’m leaning more towards charcoal since I don’t have that in my wardrobe yet.
My first suit was a decently priced charcoal suit i got for Christmas. I liked it save it was too large. My current is a relatively cheap navy suit i got at an antique store. It fits better, it's just an older look than the modern fitted suits. At the same place I bought a navy blazer that fits beautifully! And recently I bought a brown jacket with a herringbone pattern in it.

I love the line: "I do have a black suit and I pretty much wear it to funerals and..." **looks away from the camera "uh..." **looks back "that's about it." I personally love the black suit and it's my #1, but I do agree that few men can actually pull it off well. A friend of mine wore a white suit/tuxedo (with a white shirt and bow-tie) to prom a few years back and, in this one picture, it literally looks like he is glowing.

In Brazil, white suits are even more problematic because everyone instantly assumes you are a priest of the Candomblé religion. But light grey and tan would probably rank higher in such a hot place like here.
Pierce Brosnan was able to nicely pull the white suit off in Tomorrow Never Dies I think. I believe it is more of a warm weather or tropical/cartel boss look. Haha. More tropical though.
The video was great! I have a special question. I'm very fond of wearing suits and now starting to wear business suits everyday. But my height is small. I'm 5'4". So I think I will look more short in suits. Do you have a solution? Any special pattern of business suit?
I found and bought a silk blazer that is an ecru color, close to white. . I understand that the shoes and trouser should probably be a similar color, but I still had a little trepidation in wearing a silk blazer. When I wore it before, it was with a black trousers and shoes with a black bow tie. Shirt was obviously white. Wearing that coat felt amazing.
Something I learned: you probably can't pull off a burgundy, but if you can pull off a burgundy, pull off that damn burgundy suit. (Bonus points for burgundy waistcoat, black shirt, trousers, shoes, and white tie, cuff links and pocket square )
I think the dark brown can look dope as hell if you have an autumn complexion. If you wear like a tortoise frame glasses with a heavy presence of gold in your accessories, things like a gold watch, gold buckled monk shoes and a gold buckle on the belt can look incredibly sophisticated but cost-wise can be a massive cripple. It's definitely harder to pool off but I think if you go for a soft grey-ish brown you can definitely get away with it a lot easier if it's woolen and textured in Autumn towards winter because it looks cosy and comfortable.
I agree wholeheartedly with your assesment of the black suit. As an optian, I am constantly having to explain to most people that "no, you really can't wear that black pair of eyeglasses because black is not a very flattering colour for you, it makes you look pale and washed out" to half the people that think they want a black pair of glasses.

I bought a charcoal slim fit suit from combatgent based off of Art of Manliness recommendation and it is a fantastic suit for the value. I bought it on black friday and had it tailored and the results were outstanding. I got a lot of compliments from people at my church and it feels so good to wear a slim fit after losing 30lbs from exercise and diet. Can't wait to get a navy one!
***** I utilized a few unboxing videos on here and also googled combatgent review. They have a lot of good pics and info. Just find a good tailor! I spent $110 for mine to get tailored but it was a good place with good reviews. Don't wanna skimp on having a cheap tailor.
Not going to lie I was expecting you to put olive somewhere there. I don't know why but the olive suit you wear (in this video even) is arguably my favorite suit of yours. I think it would look good on dark complected people like myself too. Seems versatile to me on top of being really good looking to boot.

You definitely have a point about black suits! But black suits are really essential, if you have a big family and is going to go to a lot of funerals. You absolutely don't want to rush to aquire a black suit. My point if you might be attending funerals, get a black suit.
I love my olive suit. I have an olive complexion and dark brown hair, from northern european heritage. I have a suit in most of the colors you mentioned, but I don't have a light gray or a white suit. I think a light gray is my next suit. My last addition was a charcoal checkered suit. I think it's important to look one's best.

The white suit never gets any love. I must say, last year I wore one for the first time, and you bet...it sure did attract attention-the good kind though. I was kind of surprised how positively people responded to it, at work and at the mall. I mean salespeople would shout great comments to me from far away. Last month I saw an even more daring concept on a fashion site called Winter White...all white or off white items accented with black shoes and belt or gray. Now THAT takes balls...big ones... to pull off, but it looks great if you put it together right. I live near New York, where black is the de facto color for 95% of the inhabitants there, and for good reason.

Love your stuff. I live in Mexico and dark brown suit is the dark blue suit to Americans. Khaki is my second suit. Ronald Reagans favorite suit was dk brown and very fine chaocalate pin dot shirt. I have them made down here {suits and shirts}. Sort of a fan of his as i am of you also.
I do Model UN and Debate so I rank black as a high priority suit. It's my assault suit (combined with red tie) to command attention, deter resistance, and captivate the audience. For a "team/negotiator" suit, I wear charcoal gray with a light blue tie (same color as UN flag).

Every man needs a black suit. After you get a black suit, there's 5 suits you need to get. You need to get black, navy, gray, brown, tan. Get those 5 suits, you get yourself 2 white shirts, get yourself 2 cream colored shirts, and two powder blue shirts. You can make 75 with those combinations 'cause every last one of those pants goes with every last one of those jackets, every last jacket goes with every last one of those pants. You cannot mess up. The beige pants go with the gray jacket. The gray pants go with the brown jacket. Black pants go with everything. Get yourself some ties, handkerchiefs and start living your best life!

Black suits are out of style and that's why we don't wear them, unless it's a funeral or tuxedo.

I personally love the black suit and it's my #1, but I do agree that few men can actually pull it off well.
A friend of mine wore a white suit/tuxedo (with a white shirt and bow-tie) to prom a few years back and, in this one picture, it literally looks like he is glowing.

I found and bought a silk blazer that is an ecru color, close to white. . I understand that the shoes and trouser should probably be a similar color, but I still had a little trepidation in wearing a silk blazer. When I wore it before, it was with a black trousers and shoes with a black bow tie. Shirt was obviously white. Wearing that coat felt amazing.

Something I learned: you probably can't pull off a burgundy, but if you can pull off a burgundy, pull off that damn burgundy suit. (Bonus points for burgundy waistcoat, black shirt, trousers, shoes, and white tie, cuff links and pocket square )
I think the dark brown can look dope as hell if you have an autumn complexion. If you wear like a tortoise frame glasses with a heavy presence of gold in your accessories, things like a gold watch, gold buckled monk shoes and a gold buckle on the belt can look incredibly sophisticated but cost-wise can be a massive cripple. It's definitely harder to pool off but I think if you go for a soft grey-ish brown you can definitely get away with it a lot easier if it's woolen and textured in Autumn towards winter because it looks cosy and comfortable.
I agree wholeheartedly with your assesment of the black suit. As an optian, I am constantly having to explain to most people that "no, you really can't wear that black pair of eyeglasses because black is not a very flattering colour for you, it makes you look pale and washed out" to half the people that think they want a black pair of glasses.

I bought a charcoal slim fit suit from combatgent based off of Art of Manliness recommendation and it is a fantastic suit for the value. I bought it on black friday and had it tailored and the results were outstanding. I got a lot of compliments from people at my church and it feels so good to wear a slim fit after losing 30lbs from exercise and diet. Can't wait to get a navy one!

Not going to lie I was expecting you to put olive somewhere there. I don't know why but the olive suit you wear (in this video even) is arguably my favorite suit of yours. I think it would look good on dark complected people like myself too. Seems versatile to me on top of being really good looking to boot.

You definitely have a point about black suits! But black suits are really essential, if you have a big family and is going to go to a lot of funerals. You absolutely don't want to rush to aquire a black suit.

I love my olive suit. I have an olive complexion and dark brown hair, from northern european heritage. I have a suit in most of the colors you mentioned, but I don't have a light gray or a white suit. I think a light gray is my next suit. My last addition was a charcoal checkered suit. I think it's important to look one's best.

The white suit never gets any love. I must say, last year I wore one for the first time, and you bet...it sure did attract attention-the good kind though. I was kind of surprised how positively people responded to it, at work and at the mall. I mean salespeople would shout great comments to me from far away. Last month I saw an even more daring concept on a fashion site called Winter White...all white or off white items accented with black shoes and belt or gray. Now THAT takes balls...big ones... to pull off, but it looks great if you put it together right. I live near New York, where black is the de facto color for 95% of the inhabitants there, and for good reason.

I live in Mexico and dark brown suit is the dark blue suit to Americans. Khaki is my second suit. Ronald Reagans favorite suit was dk brown and very fine chaocalate pin dot shirt. I have them made down here {suits and shirts}. Sort of a fan of his as i am of you also.
I do Model UN and Debate so I rank black as a high priority suit. It's my assault suit (combined with red tie) to command attention, deter resistance, and captivate the audience. For a "team/negotiator" suit, I wear charcoal gray with a light blue tie (same color as UN flag).

Here where I live, people assume that you are sharp dressed just by simply wearing a button up.. Wow.. It is because the majority of them wear T-shirts, and if they are in a professional environment, they usually wear button ups, slacks, and ties.. Every man needs a black suit. After you get a black suit, there's 5 suits you need to get. You need to get black, navy, gray, brown, tan. Get those 5 suits, you get yourself 2 white shirts, get yourself 2 cream colored shirts, and two powder blue shirts. You can make 75 with those combinations 'cause every last one of those pants goes with every last one of those jackets, every last jacket goes with every last one of those pants. You cannot mess up. The beige pants go with the gray jacket. The gray pants go with the brown jacket. Black pants go with everything. Get yourself some ties, handkerchiefs and start living your best life!

Before I'd buy a white suit, I think I'd rather go with a darker shade of red for example. At least that was the color my grandpa used to rock a lot of the times.
