Dark Side of the Moon is one hell of an album. The Wall is one hell of an album. But Wish You Were Here and Animals are something else and over time everyone starts to notice it.
It's funny, my favourite Floyd songs are Echoes, Comfortably Numb, and Shine On, from 3 different albums, none of them my favourite, which is Animals (although of course, it's right up there with Wish you Were Here, and Time and Dogs are right up there too). The Waters-Gilmour era of Pink Floyd, Meddle to The Wall, they were just the best band to ever walk the Earth. Plain and simple.
Great reacton. Three things you said that says it: Gilmore is God, this isn’t just a song it's a composition, a masterpiece and you dont need drugs to get high, just listen to Floyd. ❤❤❤ Floyd
I'm 50, and from the UK, i grew up wit this, and watching you discover it, brings a smile to my face, this is what us "oldies" listen to, and it touches you, it's timeless. great reaction.
The UK sent us a lot of great music in the sixties and early seventies. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Animals, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd. Wow! Great decades to have been young. I was in high school when the Beatles hit. It caused a near instantaneous change in our music
My younger brother died last summer because of Covid. He loved this song. He was a crazy diamond but he shone like the sun! Nice to see 2 brothers having a youtube channel! Stay safe!
Roger's lyrics are amazing. I think everyone knows someone they have conflicted feelings about. Syd's deterioration while part of the band at times alienated him from the others. "He wore out his welcome with random precision." is a complex turn of phrase. He drove them crazy, angered them, and they loved him. This song is a tribute to Syd and embodies all of those conflicting feelings. We've all been there.
"Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun Shine on you crazy diamond Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky Shine on you crazy diamond" Syd Barrett left Pink Floyd, and mentally speaking, reality, around 1968. But in a sense he never really left the band. He would become the muse behind so much of Floyd's music and tone through their most successful era, along with Roger's own dark reflections. This masterpiece isn't just about Syd, it's about the darkness.... Universal and always just around the bend for all of us to steer ourselves away from the best we can. "And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too I'll see you on the dark side of the moon"
I'll have what the brother on the right is having... he knows how to enjoy Pink Floyd.. don't talk, don't pause... just let the music take you on a journey you know not of....
I’ve watched so many young people discover Pink Floyd, band of my youth. You two young men really get it at a deep level. I’m 65, and you and I could sit for hours and talk about my generations rock music and I could tell you so many stories of what I was doing in the 60s and 70s with Pink Floyd as my favorite band playing in the background, what their music meant to me as an 18 yr old coming of age back then. I love seeing you two because you truly appreciate the musicianship, so lacking in much of today’s music.
I’m 22 but I totally agree with you! I love Pink Floyd and it’s great to see I’m not the only one of my generation. I can only image how much more this music means to you than it means to me :)
Nafthali Tollenaar you are so right about that. The 60s and 70s were an intense time to be young with British music rocking us here in the US providing us with a soundtrack that helped us connect with ourselves and the world. Seeing Pink Floyd live performing Dark Side Of The Moon in 72-73 was a big influence on who I became as an adult. The power of music!
Una cosa es música , otra canciones, pero cuando el alma , el sentimiento, las emociones, los temores, miedos y la adrenalina confluyen en una composición solo puedes decir , esto, esto es Pink Floyd
Watching people of your generation discover the timeless magic that is Pink Floyd is one of the best things the Internet has ever done for me. I just sit here with my beer and my pipe and watch your minds get blown the same way mine did decades ago, long before you were even a glint in your daddy's eyes. This is the greatest band that has ever existed, not only because of the art they have created themselves but also because of the countless people they've inspired and the undeniable way they have shaped music for thinking people. Welcome aboard, fellas. Edit: Not gonna go on a total rant about it, but you should look into Porcupine Tree if you haven't already. It's like Pink Floyd and TOOL had a baby.
I liken their music to a spiritual experience. You just let it wash over you and fill you up. You sit back and give into the moments, sacrificing your time while it takes over mind and soul. Still makes me feel today, what I felt the first time.
Shine On, Time, Echoes live at Pompeii, Dogs, and Comfortably Numb Pulse live are my favorite PF songs. I've been listening to them since 1973, it's just as good today! The intro to Shine On is just as good as any of the great composers!
Wrong... Listen to the entire albums like originally intended. Pink Floyd is a cerebral musical journey, was never meant to be broken into individual songs. As you should know DSotM, WYWH an Animals albums are continuous where songs just flow into one another
@@James_Loveless lmao what? their songs and especially the ones this dude chose can be enjoyed without listening to the albums. you know why? bc its good music.
The really weird thing is when he was wandering around the studio, they didn't recognize him at first. Also, he got an equal cut of all profits Floyd ever made, even on all the albums long after he was no longer a part of the band.
This song is dedicated to Syd Barrett who's eyes became like 'black holes in the sky' after taking too much LSD. Although the lead creative force behind pink Floyd in the early days he was finally replaced by David Gilmour who used to fill in for him on stage when Syd could no longer hack it. After many years of Syd's absence he mysteriously showed up at the studio during the recording of this song. The only thing I can suggest is to try to watch the Pulse video and the visuals that go with it. This song is the opening track.
When this album was released, a lot of people considered it a letdown from the amazing masterpiece of "Dark Side of the Moon". We all rushed to buy it, of course, but for many it just wasn't up to the same level as DSotM. What we all wanted, of course, was another album which would be the same as DSotM. I remember when "Animals" came out, and a lot of my friends felt that album was *significantly* better than WYWH. Not that anyone hated WYWH, but it seemed too slow and didn't have as much "bite" as DSotM or "Animals". But as the years went by, WYWH seemed better-and-better, and has a timeless feel to it. "Animals" seemed a bit too angry, and was a tied a little too much to the specific years that it was released (especially for the song "Pigs, Three Different Ones"). While DSotM still seems like the masterpiece we all felt that it was when it was released, for many people (including me) WYWH now seems like the better album. Fast-forward to the 1990's, and all four members of the band were saying it was best album they had created.
@@mwatson5702 - Heh. Well, for "a lot of people in my college", at least. 🙂 I don't remember anyone saying they were disappointed with WYWH right when it was released. But when Animals was released, at *that* point I had many friends say they were excited by the edgier Animals because WYWH had been too laid-back and a letdown compared to DSotM.
This masterpiece is more classical music than rock its a perfect example of building up tension and keeping you on the edge of your seat in anticipation
Nice reaction guys...when you world turns to shit and you've had a crappy day, you come home, pour a scotch (or similar), or glass of red, drink that, pour another, drink that, then pour another one and go turn off all the lights. Put this record on. Go find a bean bag or deep leather couch, put your headphones on and sink down into it and sip away the final drink, and let the music sooth your soul !!!
I have played guitar for twenty five years. There have been moments in my practice where I can just glimpse the genious of DG for just a few seconds. It feels the same way. When playing with band mates and this happens and everyone looks at me, we are all shocked as I look at my fingers. I wish I had this everyday all the time like Gilmour. I have only touched that all might groove here and there and it is a drug, you literally take spiritual flight.
Great reaction to that masterpiece. Some backgrounds: Pink Floyd had no ideas what they should go for after Dark Side. They experimented with household objects what survived as intro to Shine On. And as they had no ideas the thought about absence of ideas and absence of the creative force of Barrett. And - and that a miracle by itself. When they did the final mix for Shino On suddenly Barrett appeared at Abbey Road. But noone recognized him. After he was finally recognized they had some wired moments with him. Still thinking the Pink Floyd story deserves a high budget film one day.
So, a personal story: I graduated high school back in the mid-1970's. After high school many of us left for different colleges in different parts of the USA. Five or ten years after that (and probably after the release of "The Wall"), I went to a party which was a reunion of maybe 30 high school friends. Many of us hadn't seen each other in years, so we're all chatting away to find out what everyone else had been up to. There was a radio station playing in the background, and it started playing the full 9-piece suite for "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Slowly but surely, *everyone* in that crowd stopped talking. Everyone just sat or stood where they were, listening to the song. The song ended, and after a few seconds I said something like, "That song is much better than we realized at the time". Several people added short comments, like "Indeed" or "Amazing" - and then the entire crowd when back to talking the way we had been before the song started.
spot on. I'm same age as you, in Australia. We didn't realise that it wouldn't go on. Interesting that youngsters are shocked by their Musical Ability, so used to basically posturing, posing and fisting the camera, with a bit of something music like.
I was 4 when this came out, my dad bought the Album and played this song to me to put me to sleep at night. it's better than any lullaby and still gives me chills to this day "remember when you were young" yes , yes I do
For more than 20 years, or so, this album has been charted one of the highest in most major countries around the world, every single year. Not only in their own time, but also in 2 or 3 new generations. This will be classic in a century to come.

Actually, one of their BEST songs, musically speaking (my own personal opinion, of course) is On The Turning Away. Just cold chills down your spine from start to finish.
Haha. Your reactions were priceless! 50 years on and I’m still experiencing those same emotions. Welecome the the journey that is Pink Floyd my friend, you are on a journey that will continue the rest of your life. 👍
I love you two guys. I am an old retired, combat wounded US Navy Frogman who was shot 4 times by a Cuban Sniper at the Panama City Airport in our search for Mr. Noriega. My team got lit up pretty good. In the year I spent at Walter Reid in Washington DC, I listened to Pink Floyd during all of my rehab sessions. It saved my life. You two are like Georgian sponges, soaking up Rock History every time. Rock on Brothers, and continue to share your journey.
Repeat listening does not tire that entire intro set before the vocals. It's simply one of the best musical intro's in contemporary music. Perfectly paced and crafted, themes and colours dominating then fading, lingering and reappearing with Gilmore's guitar perfectly pitched and weighted. Sometimes mournful, reflective, wounded, defiant and then joyous.
Pink Floyd were an "experimental music group", in the sense that they experimented different sounds. They were different from all other rock groups of the time. They didn't have a belting voiced vocalist like the other groups (Led Zeppelin, the who, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Deep Purple, CCR) and that's why they lasted for a much longer time than all the other groups. David Gimour changed the path of PF from what it was when Syd Barrett was part of the band. David made Pink Floyd focus on the music & sound more than on the lyrics. he made every instrument that is played shine in its own way: the drums (echoes), the organ/synthesizer (comfortably numb), the bass (Shine On You, Another brick in the wall), the saxophone (Wish you were here), the back-up vocals (Great gig in the sky, Time, wish you were here). All that makes Pink Floyd stand out like the best group of that era. One last remark: None of the mentioned group could have made it if the Beatles didn't split up in 1970.
David Gilmour 's guitar sings, like a sirens song to lure sailors , the sound he coaxes from it is quite literally hypnotizing and irresistible. His voice is calm and captivating.....this is Pink Floyd that I grew up with.
You didn't have to say a word the looks on your faces showed us how much in enjoyed it. Now what you need to do is the whole wish you were here album. It all goes together and brings it all together.
David Gilmour and Pink Floyd have discovered the exact region of the brain that reacts to their music, that floods over you. It does make one feel high or smile for a long time. David, Richard, Nick ..Brilliant!
Still gives shivers down my spine, 45 five years after!!! Timeless perfect music!! David is GOD, Rick is GOD, Nick is GOD and Roger is GOD!!! And Dick Parry (Saxo) is GOD too!!! Pink Floyd is the BEST thing that ever happen in rock music!! I SAID!
I classified this masterpiece just as high as the compositions of the great composers in the world! Just listen also to their very last album "The Endless River" and take your time to it, close your eyes and listen...just listen! Pink Floyd is in one word: AMAZING!
They have discovered the answer to that age old question: Which is the best Pink Floyd song, Comfortably Numb, or Wish You Were Here? The answer of course is Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
i love the studio version, but I actually prefer the Pulse version or the live in Gdansk (where Gilmour recruits a street musician to play the wine glasses in the beginning). It is a bit more up tempo....Hey, they are all good.
BroAction - you guys are amazing in your flexibility and patience - especially with PF! Thank you so much! (btw, you may have noticed that a LOT of PF songs are about Syd... virtually the entire Dark Side of the Moon album.. and most of this one as well -- )

My favorite is Meddle. They really turned the corner on that one.
Nick Mason's drumming is key to both DSOM and WYWH. He leaves so much space for the melody.
Well said Natural Resting Place! Most drummers beat or bang on drums; Nick, Bonham, and a few others Ctually PLAY them like an instrument!
This song keeps getting better with every listening...
Enjoyed your reaction guys, George looks like he should lie down somewhere to recover...LOL!. You should put 'Dude, those transitions!' on a T shirt.
This masterpiece is more classical music than rock its a perfect example of building up tension and keeping you on the edge of your seat in anticipation
I heard the song in my youth on LSD and when I remember it I can still cry like a little child!
@Anthony F. Tuffiano buss???
I have only touched that all might groove here and there and it is a drug, you literally take spiritual flight.
must be an amazing feeling
Patrick, you just brought me to tears. Thank you. And then there is yet another one...
So many of their songs are emotionally emotive masterpieces. After all these years they still blow me away.
I was 4 when this came out, my dad bought the Album and played this song to me to put me to sleep at night.
it's better than any lullaby and still gives me chills to this day
"remember when you were young" yes , yes I do
I had chills too, they're multiplying and I'm loosing control.
I see what you did there. #Grease
@@sarahzentexas so did I Sarah, he can't spell 'losing.'
Hey guys.First time I heard this song, 45 friggin yrs.ago....I almost cried. It was that intense and emotional for me.....and I wasnt stoned !
For more than 20 years, or so, this album has been charted one of the highest in most major countries around the world, every single year.
Not only in their own time, but also in 2 or 3 new generations.
This will be classic in a century to come.
The inimitable Dick Parry delivering a Saxophone masterclass.
You can just get high by listening to this music ❤️❤️❤️
In the background at the beginning are wine glasses from the house hold objects album project
I thought that was a joke, but it’s a real thing! Pink Floyd is a journey, always learning something new 😄
They also played the intro on wine glasses on Gilmour's Gdansk concert. Spine chilling.
@@Pulsar77 I did see Gilmore on UA-cam talking to that busker who was playing wine glasses and he invited him to play at the opening of his concert.Dave is such a humble and down to earth fella. He made that busker one happy chappy.Could you imagine playing with Floyd.😀😀😀.
@@davepiper7823 Yes, that was incredibly generous of him. That was the Venice concert. On the Gdansk concert, the band members did it themselves. Here's a video link: ua-cam.com/video/t3AosAlaODw/v-deo.html
The whole Animals album is another masterpiece..
@rushgal4ever, fucking A!! Used to love to drop some microdot and get lost in the Animals album!
Actually, one of their BEST songs, musically speaking (my own personal opinion, of course) is On The Turning Away. Just cold chills down your spine from start to finish.
Pink Floyd needs to be full album listens to get the real feel.
Rick Wright and Guilmour when they play ask and response really carry the Floyd.
Haha. Your reactions were priceless! 50 years on and I’m still experiencing those same emotions. Welecome the the journey that is Pink Floyd my friend, you are on a journey that will continue the rest of your life. 👍
Pink Floyd is timeless. This music sounds as good as it did when I first heard them in the early 1970’s.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Yesss! I’m one of those who have waited for that 😉🎧
Thank you. Thank you for understanding. This is, I believe, the best song of all time. And I love how much you appreciate it. Cheers!
He’s right Pink Floyd is a drug. Literally.
Acid, if I Remember correctly.
Yes it was indeed.. I remember the times back in the late 70’s early 80’s well.. Head phones on music full blast.. A very personal concert..
This music takes place in Top 5 for me , good job men
I love you two guys.
Nice first reaction guys. Excellent selection at this point in your Pink Floyd journey.
Welcome to greatness. Pink Floyd will be listen in the year 4000 and beyond
I was wating for this reaction guys! This is really perfect!
David Gilmour and Pink Floyd have discovered the exact region of the brain that reacts to
their music, that floods over you. It does make one feel high or smile for a long time.
David, Richard, Nick ..Brilliant!
You just made me put on the album full blast !! Happy Saturday guys !! Love you guys thank you for listening !! Have a good day !!
I SAID!
Listen and react "Sorrow" from PULSE concert (1994)
Melt your face off solo
Yes!! 🔥🎶🔥
Absolutely.
ive been listening to Pink Floyd since i was born in 1973 thanks to my awesome parents. :-) and still listen to them today.
I classified this masterpiece just as high as the compositions of the great composers in the world! Just listen also to their very last album "The Endless River" and take your time to it, close your eyes and listen...just listen! Pink Floyd is in one word: AMAZING!
Solo David Gilmour ~ "No way out of here" "Raise my rent" "No Way" are really good as well.
The symmetry in your room was satisfying for my OCD.
BroAction - you guys are amazing in your flexibility and patience - especially with PF! Thank you so much! (btw, you may have noticed that a LOT of PF songs are about Syd... virtually the entire Dark Side of the Moon album.. and most of this one as well -- )
