"Chauvin did not consider Floyd worthy of even the most basic human dignity" A summary of the case in 13 words. Really wish the prosecution gets an expert to assess this side of the crime who is even half as good as you are Dr.
+Algo1 Floyd was wacked out of his mind on meth and fentanyl. Fentanyl increases your chance of having a heart attack 100x. George says that he can't breathe before being pinned down. This is a symptom of a heart attack. He also said he was claustrophobic and his stomach hurt. Two more symptoms of a heart attack. George is 6 foot 6 and muscular. He freaked out in the back of the police car. That is why they pulled him out and pinned him to the ground. The medics didn't give any medical care when they arrived. Seconds count. Instead they loaded into the ambulance and drove to a different location to look at him. He wasn't pronounced dead at the hospital until an hour later. The medics probably could have revived him had they started resuscitation immediately. I think everyone thought that he had just passed out and wasn't dying.
@@Islamisthecultofsin Those cops might as well top themselves off. Because when they get locked up they are in for hell on earth. I for one will applaud that. Also, as the Dr mentioned, it has been medically deemed as death by asphyxiation. So your own hollow explanation is moot.
Neither you nor Dr Grande knows what Chauver "considered" so let's not speculate. Dr Grande outright lies in the video by saying Floyd died from neck compressions. That is *not* what the autopsy report says. It says he had a heart condition, covid-19 and loads of fentyal in his system.
Please notice the utter lack of humor when the topic is truly serious and beyond funny! Our good Doctor has real scruples! Unlike some police officers! Thank you Dr. Grande for your humanity!
I just think about how they treated George in broad daylight, while being recorded. How do you think these officers treat civilians when they're not on camera?
As a black guy, I can find nothing wrong with your analysis. Chauvin was clearly high on his own power and felt that satisfying himself was more important than doing his job properly as a police officer. The other officers are almost as guilty because they, unlike the regular citizens, could have stepped in and pulled Chauvin off of Floyd. Regardless of what Floyd did or his general state of mind, he did not deserve to be suffocated to death. The lack of empathy on the part of the officers was clear and unfortunate. People like that have no business being cops. If they used to be better people, perhaps it is the culture you mentioned that has to be changed.
I live in a country with mostly white folk. Since hearing about this case, I've been so sad. Mostly because when I want something to change, I just take control over it. In this case, I can't. And I am afraid of poc falsely believing every white person is an enemy. It hurts me so much to see this divide between us. Every life is valuable. I wish you all the best and if you are in the US, I hope you can stay safe.
@@TheMapman01 you are what is wrong with the world and why police get away with this. The cop was not judge and executioner, his sole job was to make an arrest.Who is to say Floyd even knew the money was counterfeit? Cop had 18 complaints of misconduct and should have long been relieved of duty as he proved himself a menace to society-as are you.
When the bystanders were begging Chauvin to get off of Floyd he looked up at them with an expression that I can only liken to a wild animal, it was blood chilling.
His face was blank, no sign of any emotion at all. It was as if he wasn't even there. Look, the more I look at that and think about it, the worse it is. When we found out they KNEW each other, that they had worked security at the same club, I really do think there was an issue of some type between them. That makes me feel even more sure that it was intentional. Chauvin knew what he was doing, and he intended to kill George Floyd.
I remember when the bystanders were asking chauvin to stop because Floyd said he couldn’t breathe, Chauvin just glared at them in a trance-like state. He glared right into the camera while Floyd was dying. This behavior to me was very sadistic.
Did it ever occur to you, in the FULL context of those sidewalk cam thugs (who commonly harass cops during arrests) that Chauvin was sick of the whole scene for a good reason? Why do you care so much about the death of an evil home invasion robber, anyhow? If cops (or anyone) had killed him when he held the woman at gunpoint in 2007, would his death still be so sacred? How you live your life matters.
Those bystanders were also cursing at him and threatening him. Seeing as how Geroge Floyd was saying he couldn't breathe before he was even on the ground, and how Derek Chauvins weight was on his right knee, and not his left knee which was on geroges neck. I'm willing to bet George OD
why do you defend an animal who brutalized and killed an unarmed person who was complying. the crowd was comprised of ordinary citizens there is no evidence of anyone here being a thug other than you. the only thing these so called cops knew about Floyd was that he was ACCUSED of passing a fake $20 bill@@DefundTheFringes
The first time I saw the video what stood out to me was that he not only lacked compassion, he seemed to enjoy not only killing Floyd but making sure that all the witnesses knew that they too were powerless. Dr. Grande has described this perfectly.
I admire how dr grande let us know ehere he stood on this immediatley when he says he is going to talk about the MURDER of george floyd. Not alleged. MURDER.🤗💜🤗💜🤗💜🤗💜
a lot of people use the word 'alleged' even wneh someone has confessed..they don't want to be accused of influencing anyone when it comes to adjudication.........
One other aspect of this is that they know they are being recorded on peoples's cell phones. Yet they acted in a way that is completely normal to them. That suggests two things. One, they are supremely confident of their immunity form any consequences of their actions. And second, they did not see anything wrong with what they were doing. This is not a problem of a few bad apples. Its a broken corrupt system that needs to be torn down and rebuilt.
Dont forget third, this was all a set up to stir up the masses in order to create chaos, then bring martial law, then public unrest, that's how marxists get things done.
@Gem Rose I saw that they've done this before, Chavin and the Chinese. They were in power mode, and dared anyone who challenge or cross them. 3 youngsters hurried away crying traumatised for life.

@@Stroheim333 No! Literally nowhere in this post does it excuse the looting. But I will! What did people like you think was going to happen when the authorities initially refused to even charge Chauvin, the DA states "I don't even see a crime commited here". If they'd just arrested and charged the four men as soon as a suspected murder had been committed, none of this would have happened. It you don't accept this you are part of the problem and will have to accept your not going to be getting your way from now on.
Books in Review....Wow...What a timely and relevant quote for all the protests going on now, or rather specifically for all the non Black people who are outraged and out there protesting as well. Benjamin Franklin was a privileged white man so I'm sure he wasn't referring to the issue of racism when he said this. I'm also sure he would be dumbfounded, if not straight out displeased, that his words would be applied to this issue ! Nevertheless, it's a great and fitting quote for our current national events.
When you spoke about how the other officers didn’t feel moved to intervene on their own really hit me. The lack of their empathy is inexcusable. I know the 17 year old girl who recorded the incident as well as the other bystanders received a lot of backlash for not stepping in. You made it clear that they had no option for the sake of their own safety and I feel the same. I really appreciate everything you said here.
Those innocent bystanders.who have been turmaised watching a psycho kill a man, right in front of them. I pray they don't get. Or have PTSD , also. They must be terrified too, for their lives as they have to now testify in court against those cops , and all cops stick together ...They could really make those peoples lives very miserable
Horrifying. I do not want to put words here. Only imagine how the witnesses are going to suffer a lifetime. Wondering about their implication. Wondering of own guilt or own not guilt.
God its even more terrifying listening to it told here.......a cold blooded killer and it took all 50 States protesting for them to be convicted (incorrectly) and arrested.....it is sick!
That is not correct. All officers were immediately sacked, and Chauvin was arrested soon after. One must appreciate that a Prosecutor must be careful to dot the i's and cross the t's otherwise those scum could get off.

Chauvin wanted that crowd to know that not only was this going to go down but that it has gone down before and, further, just try him: because it will go down, again. The total disdain on Chauvin's face as he surveyed the scene around him was unbelievably psychotic. That he is now guilty of all 3 counts is the LEAST amount of justice he deserves.

Can you answer a question, why is it that in these lethal cases law enforcement are never seen trying to administer First aid, is it policy, procedure or lack of training ?
As a POLICE OFFICER, you MUST agree....these are basic traits inherent in every police officer...your color does not matter. The traits Dr. Grande talks about correspond with self-selection traits in the "Police" profession.
He is not a psychologist. He has a PhD in "counselor education." For example, he cannot conduct assessments and evaluations (e.g. MMPI) like a registered clinical psychologist could.
Bella Hammer....And yet it's not so different ! Dr. Grande is basically saying that this cop knowingly and willfully decided to and carried out the murder of George Floyd, and was willfully assisted by the other two cops who held Floyd down, and the fourth who stood watch to further facilitate their crime. Any layman watching that horrific video comes to that conclusion themselves, especially when you get the side view behind their patrol car and a full view of George's body and the other two thug cops on top of him. Dr. Grande goes on to conclude that sadism, narcissism and total domination were the psychological factors in play here with Chauvin primarily, and the others to a lesser degree, as well as racism and conspiracy of all them to commit murder. This analysis is pretty spot on. Thank you for covering such a timely event in such a timely manner. I would have just preferred a more in depth analysis of the psychological factors of this case...i.e these killer cops, but I guess you might have time constraints with these videos.
Doctor - I find your analysis to be short-sighted and incomplete. You dismiss out of hand the first initial autopsy findings - why? Bias of some kind? The way you describe the perpetrator may be somewhat accurate in that very moment but you fail to examine this person in light of their apparently long career.....Why? According to your analysis and assumptions, this cop was out there killing people routinely with a smile on his face. Your disappointing assessment that this was definitely racially motivated has no evidence to support it unless you know something that hasn't yet been reported.......I heard a report that these men knew each other but you don't mention that...... Doctor - please excuse me but I've noticed a bit of an agenda in this and other videos - I still like your vids though!!
The other officers were apparently very new so could it be that they didn't want to go against the senior officer?? Seems likely that was in play too.....

@J.L.W They did two more autopsies that agree it was murder. The first one had a telling sentence that said something about 'whatever drugs he had in his system' if they that found any they would have been stipulated. That coroner likely didn't know about the video and he was going to fix his friends up with an excuse. The question is would he have died of any of his underlying conditions if he hadn't had a cops knee on his neck for nine minutes.

I'll tell you why it's so disturbing, because this was on camera, in plain daylight, and it was done by four appointed law officers that who knows how many other atrocities they got away with. unlike a serial killer (who hides, and sneaks and has probably extreme mental issues) these four guys got high on power in full display. This will be a murder that will be talked about for many decades to come.
@@arthurcurry2003One of the officers Thimas Lane involved in this horrendous crime was a rookie. The incident with George Floyd happened to be on his fourth day as a cop. His lawyer is asking for a lighter charge. This machiavellian behavior shown mostly by Chauvin reminds me of the movie "Training Day" with Denzel Washington playing an unethical cop showing Ethan Hawke as a rookie cop the ropes.
Sandylee Lane is an idiot. it’s like these four were possessed by demons at the time. It’s amazing predatorial behavior on display, people were around and spoke up... the four of them refused to listen to a man telling them he was dying.
it’s called a taser. It’s called pepper spray. It’s NOT called murdering someone with your knee and asphyxiating them to death by holding that knee for nearly nine minutes-two of which he was fully unconscious. It was a heinous act of brutality and murder. And should have never happened and could have been prevented had they used different methods. It doesn’t matter if the victim was a saint or not. Who among us has never sinned? Let them cast the first stone. Who among us has never loved someone who was in a dark place in their life and made horrible choices and paid the consequences for those choices? Do we love them less because they make mistakes? Who has never hurt because someone we loved broke our hearts with their mistakes? If you cannot relate to what I’m writing, you may not have a soul, a conscience or you’re devoid of empathy. Because He was a human being. A life. And he had the right to live and go on living. Most people have done regrettable, some even unlawful, things in their past. And many people have turned their lives around. I turned my life around. When I was a teen and young adult I made many regrettable decisions. Then I made a decision to turn my life around. And I went to college and became a social worker got married and am raising a family. I got my education and have a fantastic family and career and life now. Every day is another chance to turn it all around. Who knows what better things he could have done had he lived. He moved to a new city for a fresh start and was in process of doing that very thing. But he was murdered and that chance to do better was horrifically extinguished. Redemption is possible. People are not just the sum of their mistakes. He was loved. He is mourned. He was someone’s son. He was someone’s father. He was someone’s brother. HE WAS A HUMAN BEING. A WHOLE HUMAN BEING. NOT JUST THE MISTAKES HE HAD MADE. BUT A WHOLE HUMAN BEING. Someone who loves him is crying at the loss of him right this very moment. What he did in his past is irrelevant. He did not sit before a jury of his peers and be found guilty and sentenced to death for a counterfeit $20 bill. He was denied any due process whatsoever. He was MURDERED. And Murder is murder. His past is irrelevant and it’s disgusting for people to act like his past transgressions somehow excuse the fact that he was murdered. Like that makes it ok to take his life. He is the victim of a homicide. Victim shaming is a shameful act in and of itself. Period. And for those who do it, you’re making a disgrace of yourself. Not the victim. YOURSELF. Reforming the current police it is of utmost importance so monsters like him don’t have a license to murder with impunity and thrive in their depravation, while feeling entitled and totally protected by the PD.

Your comment reminds me of a video I watched years ago on childhood psychopathy in which a young sister said of young her brother who had just gleefully killed a small mammal: "For the first time I really looked into his eyes, and there truly was nothing behind them except the color of black." To me, Chauvin's eyes looked black and hollow as he looked at the camera. I am guessing he easily could have been diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder (i.e., sociopathy/psychopathy) if the police department had done its job during standard fitness-for-duty physicals. Alas, they clearly did not.

@therandom3591 but did they kill her? NO. NO. NO. GET IT? People need to stop mentioning that as if she HAD BEEN MURDERED! Yes, it was awful to do this but they did their theft and left. Many times such an assault ends in murdering the homeowner for the sheer thrill of murdering - NONE OF THESE MEN KILLED HER, THEY DID NOT EVEN. KNOCK HER UNCONSCIOUS WITH THE BUTT OF A GUN, NOR DID THEY BLIND HER OR TIE HER HANDS DOWN NOR TIE HER TO A CHAIR NOR DID THEY RAPE HER. PUTTING THE GUN TO HER BABY MAY IN FACT HAVE HELPED HER STAY CALM AND NOT DO ANYTHING STUPID WHICH COULD HAVE ESCALATED THE SITUATION - BECAUSE the gun being on her belly helped her remember she had to keep quiet to protect her baby (which kept both of them safe). So, contrary to what a gun to the belly of a pregnant woman first may strike us as, it actually was a very helpful thing for them to have done that. They were not wearing masks either, which would have been more terrifying. There was actually a sane method to this action. They were black men and she a black woman, so there was a level of understanding each other culturally as well, which helped keep the situation calm and a clean theft ONLY so to speak. Neither did they taunt her even with the threat of rape, nor did they cut her face up with a knife nor trash her home for the thrill of it. This puts this act, though fully unlawful, in a whole better light than what many truly awful perpetrators have done.
I couldn't watch the full video of what happened to Mr. Floyd, it's too traumatic, but just the bare clips are enough to tell you what happened there. It's just... horrifying. @@DANIEL-ls5ku it sickens me, at the same time this was going on my son was arrested, tazed seven times and kicked in the face and ribs while in handcuffs! It took five cops to subdue a 130 lbs man? No, they're power hungry and think they're badasses because they can do this and get away with it over and over again!
If he was ever even a threat at any time in this situation, which seems really doubtful. It was all over a counterfeit $20... And he certainly wasn't going to be a threat to anyone once they'd cuffed him. They could've just let him walk away at that point, what's he gonna do with hands cuffed behind his back? There's no way to explain any of it with logic & reason.
@@mugger1 I was just thinking the same thing....those ex cops are likely going to be toyed with then eventually killed in prison or they're going to commit suicide before anyone can get to them. It's the end for them.
Keung did he apologized to Floyd’s family and his partner the night of Floyd’s death got into the ambulance to help with chest compressions. Those guys were rookies and Chauvin was the senior officer the coordinator of the event. They even asked if they could roll Floyd over to his side and Chauvin told them no and to stay put.
The glares at the crowd, the lack of remorse, the increasing torture as the crowd grows more vocal are evidence of psychopathy. It creeps me out that Chauvin didn’t care that he was being watched snuff out a life. I’m convinced that was part of his pleasure. I’m Sickened. This video pulls together all my thoughts now that I’ve watched the entire video. Shiver!!!
Som Guy The cop was wrong, but Floyd was also a serious violent criminal; just saying I think both sides of the coin should be shown. Don't you? Or just a candy coat it to avoid being called a racist.
The review of George Floyd's murder due to Chauvin's callousness brings tears to my eyes. At times it can be mind boggling how a human can be so cruel to another.
Same here and the fact that the two other officers let if happen despite the fact that people around who were watching - and Floyd himself - were begging them to save Floyd - that makes it even worse!!
What’s mind boggling is that Floyd was yelling “I can’t breathe” before he was even placed on the ground but somehow sheep like you can be so easily manipulated by the media
Floyd wasn’t manipulating the media. Floyd couldn’t breathe before he went into car. Was hyperventilaing because of stress and drugs. Chauvis should have never put him on the ground with knee on him, but should have gotten help at that point.
This is no more than manslaughter. Unintentional,… due to dimwit-ness,… Chauvin should've had sense to let up sooner. George Floyd was unreasonably resisting arrest, and, he's a big dude to keep in control of, given the unlawful actions he/GF did.
It was fentanyl. It was just a politically convenient to charge him. If you have a knee on the back of the neck you can still breathe as the structure of the neck is intact. I disagree with the assessment. Everyone is too afraid to tell the truth.
@@franklinpatterson3693 they wouldn't last 6 months in the general prison population. The LAST place a cop wants to be is in prison. There would be inmates trying to not only kill them, but brutally torture them in the process from day one.
Based on my personal opinion, the tide is changing and a clue was the defence expert witness who stated Chauvin did not use excessive force. This guy, whom I believe to be a police officer, continues to play by the old rules, sadly, the world is embracing the new ones.
Today's cops are drawn to the profession to help others they are drawn to the power trip, adrenaline surge and feeling above others.

It’s worth recalling that not even the state of Minnesota prosecuting Chauvin believes that he intentionally used deadly force upon Floyd, or they would have charged him with a crime of intentional homicide, which they have not done. Accordingly, Chauvin is not attempting to raise a justified use-of-deadly force defense, making §609.066 irrelevant in this context.
As a fellow mental health professional and mixed ethnicity woman, I want to thank you so much for taking the time to look at this case. I found your analysis to be professional, logical and concise. I’d love to know whether you feel that dark triad and dark tetrad personality traits are a systemic problem within the police force, and whether or not you feel that they are purposely sought after. This has been something I’ve been researching for quite some time, and I’d love to hear your take on the subject.
I've caught wind of how the hiring and psych eval has changed over the years, with the emergence of new titles. From police officer, to law enforcement officer. They used to be officers of the peace.
I saw a research data about in which positions the most of narcissist or psychopaths are to be found. Im pretty sure law inforcement was one of them. I don´t know if the system is looking for these people intentionally, I presume not because they only follow their own authority and cause more problems in the long run than bring the value in. I am pretty sure that these positions are attracting such personalities because they are officially allowed to execute often an unquestionable power and this is exactly what they are after.
I remember reading an article years ago about a man's application to be a cop in CT rejected bc his IQ was too high. So they are looking for certain types...
@@vaiciciaku Yes you are right. Psychopaths are attracted to positions of power. Off topic but nurses are another area where psychopaths are drawn to as a career.
@@suras8984 As a former RN of 18 years, I agree with you, sadly. For some reason, those with the title of RN think/feel they're "deserving" of respect because of their title and what they went through to get said title. I worked with other RNs who wouldn't do something as simple as refill a patient's water jug per the patient's request because said patient wasn't assigned to them. I witnessed one RN in a hospital I worked at advising a patient, who asked them to please refill their water jug, that they'd get their CNA/aide to fill it up for them and then walk away. After that RN left, I followed up by telling the patient that I'd fill it up for them. This patient wasn't assigned to me, either. But what's the big deal about filling up a water jug for someone? Ugh! The smile that came across that patient's face is something I'll never forget. Doctors fall into this category as well. I've worked with a handful of doctors in my 18 years as a RN who thought and acted like MD stands for Medical Deity. At the same time, let's please remember that not all nurses/doctors/police officers are bad.
I am pro-police / law and order. But no matter what Floyd’s record or previous crimes, I’m going to have to agree with you on this one, Doctor. The two videos I saw shot from different angles were horrifying to watch. It was murder.
Pro police means I dont like criminals, doesnt means I prefer criminals with authority. You need to point out this because manipulative people with political power ,will try to turn this against you. 'Oh you are with murderers'
They both worked together. I wish they would investigate more into this than just racism. I don't see how the officer should have been involved in the arrest since he had a conflict of interest. There is something more sinister going on.
Chauvin had 18 complaints against him in a 19 year career. Several of them mentions his signature move, kneeling on a victim’s neck. He’s done it several times before. He was a murder out to happen. Several witnesses said he looked comfortable kneeling on GFs neck. A little smirk on his face. Makes me sick. I’m sure when he gets to jail his comfort will cease.
@@darbyohara this mind set is exactly why there’s a large number of people in the population who are incapable of understanding why this ordeal is such a big deal. Closed minded and one dimensional.
Mr. Floyd's murder is one of the most revolting acts of cruelty I have ever witnessed. Irrespective of the charges formally levelled, I share your view that Chauvin's was an act of first degree murder. Based on his long record of similar infractions, it seems that Chauvin may have had the escalating sadistic tendencies of a serial killer and that Mr. Floyd was, tragically, the victim of opportunity he encountered when his propensities crossed over from assault to murder. But that's just my 'Dateline' pop forensics take. Dr. Grande, might routine psychometric evaluation pre- and post-recruitment have flagged Chauvin and similarly inclined law officers as risks to public safety and prompted their removal from active duty? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. RIP George Floyd.
Well, his previous violent tendencies should've been enough to get him fired from the police as well as arrested, it's just a tragedy that this is what it took for that utter waste to finally get fired.
If this is the cruelest thing you have ever seen then you are caught up into the national frenzy and outlet to be mad about something. You really need to get out more. No one knew he would have a heart attack. he was not asphyxiated. I trained for 15 years in restraints. You cannot talk when you are being asphyxiated. It is indeed a tragedy a man lost his life because he resisted arrest over a 20 dollar fake bill, however. I know your instant response is to call me a racist and bigot.
D.R. Tharp You are indeed a racist and a bigot, and worse. You have blind eyes and, what's much worse, a blind mind. Your filthy attempt to justify the killing of a defenseless, handcuffed man on the ground by three policemen standing on him, pressing down on his neck and begging for his life is disgusting and outrageous. You are trying to put the blame on the victim on account of an imagined resistance to arrest and a freeking $20 dollar bill. You sound like you just came out of your last KKK meeting and brought your lynching ideas with you
@@DRTharp Respectfully, medical professionals disagree with you. So chill and quit looking for something to be mad about. Yes, the consensus is that you are a racist and bigot. Embrace it.
I think DC was angered by the initial struggle. Also, he seemed a sense of gratification as he was depriving a begging person of oxygen. Also, I believe he knew he was dead and didn't move until paramedics, arrived because he didn't want to insight and heightened the tension of the crowd.
I also cried after seeing the video when it came out, it left me lying awake through the night and this horrible situation and the uprising coming from it have preoccupied my days.
I have to admit I didn’t watch the whole way through. Someone told me he was crying out for his mom. I’m a mom of 3 boys and it hit too close to my worse fears.
Ya he is sitting comely at court and writing notes! Also you see absauletly no emotion during the video of horrific murder they committed in broad day light. Almost like a different person he act as if he is a bit dumbfounded that the trial process is going on, very cold blooded and wake up call to the world. There many of these dangerous elements are in our community like a ticking time bomb, I have encountered many of psychopathic disordered person in Perth western Australia. They often passively and actively committ serious crime often resulting death of innocent persons. Often the plan for perfect crime and distribution of drug in coloured community is a part of their covert operations. A worrying number of them work in police force and various government departments and religious organizations.
He is busy writing, trying hard to be off the hook, when clearly he murdered someone. You don’t need to be an expert to see murder being committed, sadistic and definitely has no regard for a black person. He is reported to have been well known for his sadistic nature.

I told my friends he seems to be enjoying what he was doing, it appears to me that the crowd pleads to stop was strengthen Chauvin. What is the difference between a psychopath vs sadist
I think the former coldly hurts people for machiavellian schemes, in order to gain something, and the latter hurts people for the sheer pleasure of it.
I think ur absolutely right, i seems like he wanted to show the crowd who’s boss, I wonder if he still would’ve killed him if the crowd wasn’t there? I also think the other officers didn’t stop him because they didn’t want to seem like nice, or weak, that Chauvin could be the alpha of the coppers there,
@@fleadoggreen9062 it's the terrible code of the thin blue line. They know they dare not cross it. If they do, when they need backup, it won't be there for them. I believe Chauvin could kill anyone: white, black, man or woman. The guy is a total psychopath. He kept his knee on Floyd's neck, even after he was no longer moving, because he could, and because it also upset the crowd so much. He got off on causing them pain as well.
This situation have us all in a state of constant anxiety I went to a Deli on Monday to get something to eat, and while I was waiting for my food, a police officer walked in, when I saw him I instantly took a deep breath and felt my body get very tense, and I tried to get away from the police officer trying without him to notice. At that very moment I realized how much our current situation have affected me, I suffer from depression and also PTSD so I've been feeling more anxious than usual
While I agree that Chauvin intended to kill George at the scene, the charge of 1st degree murder would be a tenuous proposition. Pre-meditated murder requires planning and preparation much ahead of the act. The prosecution would risk their credibility and would be difficult to prove to a jury. Better to go for a slightly reduced charge and be successful.
Pre-meditation does not require a long period of pre-planning. All that is required to meet the definition of pre-meditated is that the perpetrator paused, for at least a few moments, to consider their actions, during which time a reasonable person would have had time to second guess their actions. So thinking about what you are going to do, even for a matter of seconds before you do it, can constitute pre-meditation.
That murder was one of the saddest, most disturbing things I've seen in recent memory. I found your analysis excellent, Dr. Grande, and it contained some new material and surprises for me, and I'm very glad I tuned in and tuned in early. I've heard that they knew one another, that they worked together as security in a nightclub, but I can't confirm that; if true, it would add a new dimension to this case, and could support a charge of first degree murder. I get some of my perspective on things like this from Jimmy Dore and, more seriously, from Chris Hedges (both prominent presences on UA-cam), and Hedges recently said that police murder over a thousand people in this country every year. Thanks, again. I appreciate your candor and professional expertise.
They worked at the same bar, but it’s unclear if they knew each other. Floyd worked inside security (there was apparently a large team of guards) and Chauvin worked outside. It was interesting though that the bar owner said Chauvin didn’t like working events when there was going to be a large Black crowd.
Excellent, I wish he was the prosecutor, the way he broke it down was amazing, I would definitely want to convince all of them after listening to this.
Not so sure I agree with first degree murder. 1st degree requires planning in advanced and intent. I think this happened more spontaneously with intent. Chauvin arrived at a chaotic scene and then murdered Floyd. Surprised Dr Grande would go with 1st degree.
Many times when someone is dying they will call out to God & to mom .even so called atheists do this . They may call out to mom because they see an image of mom .approaching them . It is not unusual for some one who is dying to see someone that passed before .
Great insight. One girl's video captured the cops misconduct. I hope this inspires others to step in when they see injustice. I praise the bravery of that one girl. Thank you
The hand on the pocket boggles my mind. I even wondered if it was the dark glove I was seeing instead of the hand inside the pocket. And the expression on that officer’s face was as if his mind was blank. Unreal. I couldn’t watch it twice. Edit: ok, I went back to that horrible, raw video, covered the bottom half of the video with my hand because I can’t watch that horrible part again and just focused on the officers. I believe that man was taking pleasure from what he was doing, he was completely absorbed by whatever he was feeling during the whole time he was murdering Floyd. The expression on his face when he took out the pepper spray is plain scary. I slowed the video down and it’s terrifying, he looks deranged, like a hungry wild predator hanging on to it’s prey. The other officer’s attitude is appalling. And oh my god, when the ambulance arrives the murderer does not even move. The other officers do nothing. The paramedics or whatever put the gurney out and Chauvin doesn’t move. They place the white thing on the floor (like come on man get off of him but not really doing anything to help) and the way they place him on top of it and on the gurney is so disrespectful. No one checks on him, they just pack him on the back of the ambulance and even then the murderer doesn’t seem to want to let go of his prey. It’s a 9 minute horror movie. That was murder in the first degree, I’m convinced. And all those poor people watching powerless because if they got closer they would be pounced on.
wadi gaji omg yes, I just edited my post and the parallels between that horrible event and hunting came to my mind. It’s like a predator killing it’s prey, slowly. Horrified is not a good enough word to describe what that video makes me feel.
Sofia .... I agree with your point about the look on the officer's face. Play the video without sound. The cold empty eyes are so obvious & without sound it seems like an hour.
"I know whenever I talk about controversial topics, it will generate a variety of opinions..." I don't think that's the case in this situation Doc. Everyone and their mother knows that this was a cold-blooded killing and that there is absolutely no defense for the actions of these criminals in uniform.
Tazzio Bocaiuva....I agree with your viewpoint about what went on in the George Floyd murder. However, it should be no surprise that all you have to do is click on videos of the incident and read comments and posts saying ignorant, callous and racist things like "Well he (George Floyd) should not have been committing a crime" (the alleged crime of passing a $20 counterfeit bill) or "He shouldn't have been drunk or high". In other words, Floyd deserved to be killed, and/or what happened to him was HIS fault... not the cops who tortured and murdered him ! It's this mentality and lack of respect or compassion for those of darker skin shades, especially Black people, that allows the brutality and/or murder to continue.
Right, while being videoed? that makes no sense. Don't be fooled by appearances. Floyd OD on Fentanyl and died like 50 thousand Americans will die this year from Chinese Fentanyl.
Yes absolutely. Perhaps the prosecutors are racist or perhaps they think the jury will be too racist to find Chauvin guilty of first degree. It is messed up that it's not first degree charges.
I agree with you. 1st degree murder requires intent, and intent can be formed in a split second. It doesn't require someone sitting around for hours, days, or weeks plotting a murder.
@Gobbollino - ant cop that has an ounce of human compassion, care, concern, conscience, decency....just plain human should respect " I CAN'T BREATHE." GF was NO threat in handcuffs and was NOT behaving violently, so that point is moot. There is NOTHING that anyone w/ the above characteristics would use to justify this murder. Killer cops period!
This made me love you even more Dr Grande! I love that you don’t see ANY grey area! I’ve spent WAY too much time in the swamp land that is Twitter in the last few days and the anonymity there allows the absolute worst of humanity to shine thru loud and proud. I’ve seen way too many comments about, “he shouldn’t have been passing counterfeit bills”, and, “he should have taken his drug money somewhere else” (??) and just random racist bullish!t and this was wonderfully refreshing ❤️

This is the best video I’ve seen so far. You don’t add sensationalism, just facts and your opinion. This case is really disturbing. I found it very telling that the killer seemed so relaxed the whole time. I figured it was because it’s not his first time.
@Hieronymus Bosch I hope the attorneys representing Mr. Floyd's family does investigate Derek Chauvin past with the Police Department. If there are other deaths related with Derek Chauvin line of duty, they should ask other victims family members if they can exhume these victims to do an autopsy on these other victims. If it proves Derek Chauvin used excessive force which cause their death; now they can charge Derek Chauvin for first Degree Murder and in fact they have a serial killer wearing a Badge!
@Hieronymus Bosch absolutely amazing if this is true, how this jerk could have kept his job . If this was racist act it should be exposed during the trial. Also his union reps , supervisors that allowed him to stay in job .
Like you, Dr. Grande, I am a psychologist here in Australia with my own practice. I enjoy your videos and have learned a thing or two from you along the way. In my practice, I pride myself on remaining clinical, fact based, and objective, at all times. I like to think I can stand in another’s shoes, and understand any perspective, even those that repulse, disgust or frighten me. But I’m struggling to understand, not just why, but how, a human being could do what Chauvin did to a helpless, defenceless individual. The most concerning and confronting aspect for me was the lack of emotion from Chauvin. At least if he had expressed hatred, or anger, panic, or even wrath, I could understand his mindset. But he took his time, and mercilessly ended this mans life with the same composure it takes to order lunch. I’ve seen a lot people do a lot of questionable things. But this was pure malevolence.
The Coach Respectfully, your pride is misguided. I hope you don’t tell your patients you can walk in their shoes, because sometimes you really can barely imagine.
Roy Futrell I’m very pro police. And I understand how demanding, traumatic, and dangerous their job can be. I suppose I’m just anti psychotic, sadistic people who abuse their power. Maybe that’s just me.
CanadianLoki76 I apologise. I didn’t realise my comment would be taken literally. Perhaps I should have used different language. I was more trying to convey the shock at what I was seeing. You’re correct, it is my job to understand the mindset and thought process of a psychopath. But just because I know the moon is there, doesn’t mean I’ve been there. I often hear people say “nothing surprises me anymore “. I think they’re lucky, because people shock the hell out of me every day. And this was appalling to me. I’m sorry I didn’t convey that in a clearer manner. It’s neither here nor there, but to answer your question , yes I am a psychologist and have a PhD.
L G whenever someone opens with “respectfully”, I know I’m about to cop a whack. But you make a good point. I don’t profess to feel anyone else’s inner experience, nor can I suffer the trauma of another. I suppose I was trying to express that I pride myself on not allowing my own opinions and beliefs and values about a client’s circumstances to stand in the way of my objectivity, or my ability to help them.
@ElGato Volador You don’t have to watch the news to watch the trial. You can watch the full trial live, as well as any other news story you can go to the actual source yourself and get the full story without anyone’s opinion added. It’s not that hard to find real information from the actual source.
@ The police chief of Minneapolis has testified that ex-officer Derek Chauvin violated the agency's policy on force during the arrest of George Floyd. Chief Medaria Arradondo said the way Mr Chauvin restrained Mr Floyd was not in line with training and "certainly not part of our ethics and our values". The chief fired Mr Chauvin and the three other officers involved days after Mr Floyd's death last May.
@ Mercil testified the restraint Chauvin used was unnecessary. And has since been banned. "An expert witness testified in the trial of Derek Chauvin on Tuesday that officers used excessive force against George Floyd during his fatal May 2020 arrest. LAPD Sergeant Jody Stiger, an expert in tactics and de-escalation training, reviewed the case and testified for the prosecution..... Earlier, more Minneapolis police officials took the stand. Their testimony came a day after Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo testified Chauvin's actions violated department policy. Tuesday's first witness, Minneapolis Police Sergeant Ker Yang, explained how the department's crisis intervention team responds to people suffering behavioral or mental health crises. He said officers are trained to de-escalate a situation whenever "safe and feasible." Next up, Lieutenant Johnny Mercil, who trains officers in use of force and defensive tactics, took the stand. A martial arts practitioner, he said he incorporated Brazilian jiu-jitsu techniques into the department's police training. He said officers are trained to use the least amount of force possible to gain a person's compliance." At the time of Floyd's death, Mercil testified officers were authorized to use neck restraints by applying pressure to the side of a person's neck to gain compliance, but only for people who were actively resisting or assaultive, and only if other techniques had not worked. Looking at a a picture of Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck, Mercil said it was not an authorized neck restraint. He said such a restraint is not authorized to be used against someone who is handcuffed and under control. All neck restraints at the department have since been banned." It's very doubtful Mercil's testimony will clear Mr. Chauvin.
@ I am in very good health and not sure I could survive with a knee applied to my neck for 10 minutes. The neck is a very venerable area of the body. This technique has been banned in MN as a result of Chauvin's actions so probably very dangerous. "At least 32 of the nation's 65 largest police departments have banned or strengthened restrictions on the use of neck restraints since the Memorial Day death of George Floyd after a Minneapolis police officer held his knee to Floyd's neck for more than seven minutes, a Washington Post analysis shows."
Great intellectual honesty. Just listened yesterday to Judge Andrew Napolitano's assessment on this case and he said the exact same thing. First degree murder and aiding and abetting a murder on the part of the other officers. You're a true professional. 👍

Thank You Dr. Todd Grande for Calling it like it is. You are a Good Man. Thank You for Seeing What truly was going on.
If cops (or anyone) had killed him when he held the woman at gunpoint in 2007, would his death still be so sacred? a lot of people use the word 'alleged' even wneh someone has confessed..they don't want to be accused of influencing anyone when it comes to adjudication.........
I don't think the didn't see anything wrong; that would actually help the defense.

Surely the bystanders don't need any help exacerbating their survivor's guilt. They were all victims of police brutality that day.

He certainly gives clarity with an educated, apparently unbiased perspective. Very appreciated.

J.L.W I know. It’s ridiculous. I am a retired RN.
J.L.W He died because he couldn’t breathe.
SFP Exactly! Someone says they can’t breathe....then back off. Those other officers were trained! They should have known better.
+Lisa Floyd was wacked out of his mind on meth and fentanyl.

This will be a murder that will be talked about for many decades to come.

it’s called a taser. YOURSELF.

Mr. Floyd's murder is one of the most revolting acts of cruelty I have ever witnessed. Irrespective of the charges formally levelled, I share your view that Chauvin's was an act of first degree murder. Same. Therapy helps a lot especially if you have multiple anxiety disorders like me.

Iamlight..personally, I don’t think you’re aware of anything much, maybe you should see someone..
It became 1st degree the FIRST time GF said, "I can't breath".
No, cause he said that before he was even put on the ground.
@@Arcessitor That doesn't mean you can ignore a man in a choke hold saying he can't breath
Facebook too. Lots of good but too many bad. It hurts.
Teresa Howick I haven’t been on Facebook in about six months, it’s pretty nice. I hate twitter too but I needed something to follow all the chaos going on right now.
Feel free to text me anytime once you get bored of Twitter. 🥴🥴
Well said Jess👍🏼
Do yourself a favor. Get off of social media and cable news. It is garbage. Your soul will thank you!
Your analyses are always so well thought out and easy to follow.
This is the best video I’ve seen so far. You don’t add sensationalism, just facts and your opinion. This case is really disturbing. I found it very telling that the killer seemed so relaxed the whole time. I figured it was because it’s not his first time.
I don't think it was his first time.
@jet guy that would be a huge mistake for this man to "get off" .I personally do not believe it's possible at this point .
Same
I thought he seemed sadistic. I love all your videos Dr.Grande!
@Roy Futrell what do you mean to say? That because their job is hard they are entitled to 1st degree murder?
Wow, I’m not used to hearing this level of emotion in Dr. G’s voice. It’s clear this incident moved him as it has millions of others...
He got caught up in the hype and he's 100% wrong. Chauvin will appeal

9 minutes and 29 seconds. It's absolutely unbelievable! Please update now with the trial
Just watch it or pay attention to the news.
He said officers are trained to use the least amount of force possible to gain a person's compliance."
At the time of Floyd's death, Mercil testified officers were authorized to use neck restraints by applying pressure to the side of a person's neck to gain compliance, but only for people who were actively resisting or assaultive, and only if other techniques had not worked.
Brilliant. If only you were an expert witness for the prosecution. Your genuine horror at witnessing the murder adds such power to your analysis. The restraint with which you express your thoughts on this atrocity is genuinely moving. What a great writer you are. Thanks.
@Leo Pard You sound like you need to google expert witness. The same way they have Forensics, the same way they have an expert examine the polygraph test, same way they have experts decipher someone's handwriting...etc. I could go on, but im sure you are intelligent enough to get it now.

I always look forward to seeing you analyze a case bc you have been able to get to the most critical aspects & present them in an informative manner easily understood. Ty Dr. Grande!
