Just installed a 75lb thrust on my bass boat few weeks ago. Amazing the time it can take and the tools that are needed, but I'm retired so time is no problem. the main thing i love on your installing, it's that you didn't cut the tube (i don't know how you call it) upon the minnkota .
something that was holding me back in my décision. People around me ,told me that i have to cut it, and i didn't want to do.

glad you like it and is called bow rail , i did not want to cut mine because they are expensive , now if you want to do this installation you have to make sure your bow rail is not that short, mine is a tall one. thanks for watching

You are so right Captain because sometimes it takes me about an hour to get to a good anchor position and then the current changes me after 20 minutes which is really aggravating but now everything changes😉👍👍

Hi Capt.... Beautiful installation! There are a lot of people who say you can't install a trolling motor on the boat because of the rail being in the way; you have proved it can done, and done well! I look forward to seeing the battery installation....

its the ones with auto deploy that makes it tricky with the rails.

Excellent installation, I am concerned about some of the rough weather and conditions that you encounter when out to sea. You may may need to see about further securing the shaft during your crossings. Just a thought. Awesome content by the way!

I’m thinking about getting one but after this video I think I’m gonna hold off until the technology gets better. Our fishing grounds are 50 to 80 miles offshore and I think it will just not last these conditions. Also one more thing to trip on.

Great videos ! This may have already suggested but backing plates or at least fender washers added to the under side of deck to spread the torque to avoid cracking the fiberglass.

I use marine plywood cut to the shape I need and use it to support/distribute the pressure and works well and cheap

I rig boats for a living, and I have a few suggestions that you may appreciate...
1) Run a 3/8" round-over router bit around the edges to make it smooth, rounded, and much easier on feet. (and really custom looking, too)
2) After sanding and cleaning, use Rustoleum Aluminum Primer, from H. Depot or Lowes first. It makes the paint stick much more permanently to aluminum.
3) Paint before bolting it down makes it easier and faster.
4) You should put a circle of Loctite sealer around each bolt hole on the top, bottom, and between the starboard and the aluminum to prevent leaks. A thin bead of loctite around the perimeter of the aluminum and the starboard will prevent corrosion on the bottom of the aluminum, and creeping moisture coming in from the sides. Capillary action is powerful. Water will find a way in, if not sealed..
5) A backing plate or even very large fender washers under the fiberglass would support it stronger, especially when trailering and in rough seas. Cheap insurance from the fiberglass cracking.
You can always do some or all of this stuff at another time, if you ever re-do the work.
But again, very nice! Thanks for the video!
Wow Captain those are very awesome suggestion especially the one around where both plates meet you're right if water goes to the dare don't start doing some damage what Imma do between the plexiglass starboard and the aluminum I will put a beat-up Marine adhesive there.

My thoughts also were to put some meat underneath in the anchor locker. PL some 3/4” marine grade plywood to that and let it set up-that’s a forever deal with no second guessing...
@@johnm5714, I agree, a full plywood backer is cheap insurance and easy to do. Wrap some carpet around it, if you don't like the looks of it. Bouncing on the road when trailering is extremely stressful. A backer plate will take away any worries..
@@OutOnTheReef, You are very welcome. It's best to loosen the bolts, and lift up the layers to put the sealer between them. It looks better, and won't ever come out. Might as well use all the sealer you have, as it goes bad once you open it.

I think a water channel between the plate and the edge of the hull would keep water from pooling on the corner, also since you are doing saltwater on a permanent mount, I would advise you to retreat the aluminum with alodine and zinc chromate, paint alone will not be enough corrosion protection. I treat aluminum parts for aircraft that work the oil wells in the gulf. Great video and nice boat.

Newport trolling motor very nice well constructed 55 pound thrust. Fits nice on my inflatable raft. It's lite weight enough to pickup transport it. Shipped fast.

Suggestions; Next time...use 1/4 or 5/16" plate (unless you get free metal). Put a radius on all the exposed square corners and use a router and a radius bit to round off the long edges. Better to not paint, just let the aluminum weather to gray and whiten it with Aluminum Brightener now and then. Avoid using silicone as it can promote corrosion, better to use a polyurethane sealer. Lube all your stainless hardware with "Super TefGel" to guarantee you can take things apart in the future.

Yes cap if dont have a bow rail over 22 inches high it will not work but cutting the bow rail is another option cap. Thanks for watching ⚓️

I just had a 1/2 in aluminum plate fail. The machine shop sold me cast aluminum. Said it was some high grade stuff. Dropped an 80 in rhodan in the drink. Your plate looks good
Sorry to hear about your plate Captain I know it's very frustrating after you do everything to have a part failure.
And my aluminum plate I got it Amazon it was $74 and a hat gray reviews that's why I rather buy my stuff at Amazon because of the reviews of consumers before me.

Cast aluminum is brittle... BUMMER! Always use rolled or forged aluminum if it will face stress, bending or impact, but I guess you know that now. Sorry to hear about that loss!
Great install. The only thing I would have done differently is chamfer the holes in the fiberglass to prevent spider cracks in the future.

Good deal. Only thing is I would make a support for the head. Shaft is very long and in rough seas that head migh vibrate up and down, so I would make a base or something where that head can rest on while at rough seas. 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

I have the same minnkota and you will want to get a trolling motor support. Because the shaft is so long the head unit can hit the deck when stowed and travelling in rough seas. Ram mounts as well as anglers pal make them and can be purchased on amazon. I use the anglers pal so I don’t have to install anything on the motor. It is a must to save the motor.

In the meantime, you can run a bungee cord from the top of the motor around the railing to support it.

Having added an 82lb (24 volt) Minn Kota Riptide with Co-pilot/Autopilot to my Walkaround, you may encounter issues with battery usage (you will need to install another battery charger and get quality AGM batteries that can take a beating and will not Off-gas while charging like Lead Acid batteries). Your boat, as does mine, sits much higher above the water, and creates a large provide for the wind and waves to push and change the angel of the boat. It is going to require a lot of trolling motor adjustment (left/right) to stay anchored on a single location in moderately windy days.
I also had many, many boards replaced on my Minn kota Riptide. The trolling motor just starts turning (except when on Autopilot) and that appears to be an indication that the board it bad.

Awesome suggestions captain and yes the 82 lb Works harder and waste more battery because it has less power when you go to 36 volts I believe for being a bigger motor you waste less battery I think you're on the power.

Look forward to seeing the video. El Antares 11 que ordené viene con 2 x 300 ho Mercury outboards. Lo ordené con el Mercury JPO (joystick). Eso tiene el Skyhook feature que es similar a lo que vas hacer con tu trolling motor. It is a beautiful feature. Te mando foto cuando llegue.

Only error I heard was 3 100 amp batteries giving you 300 amps...... what you will end up with is 36 volts and 100 amp hours. I have 3 120AH batteries and I get about 5-6 hours of stand alone use from my ulterra 112 in my 23ft cuddy. Amazing units. You'll love that motor.
Well the only difference between me and you Captain is that I have a onboard generador and i will have a 20amp 3 bank charger, that way I can stay longer in the water.
And what's the actual weight fully loaded on your boat captain?
And are your batteries AGM that makes a big difference
@@OutOnTheReef My dry weight is 3900 I'd estimate loaded with gear, fuel, and people i hit 4500 to 5000lbs. So you will distribute 20amps across 3 batteries? So 7ah per battery. So let's pretend you have your motor at 5 out of 10. Meaning a roughly 27ah draw. Minus your 7ah charge you're at about 20ah usage. Meaning about 5+ hours of use. I actually use a 2k watt inverter to pump some juice back into my batteries through my onboard 40a charger while I run my main engine. These are truly amazing units and I've always gotten more time on the water than advertised but it's better not to push your luck especially when you have the ulterra that requires juice to stow.

I don’t like how it sticks out past the rub rail. Hopefully it doesn’t become a problem for you when you’re docking up against pilings. Minnkota makes a quick release mount that’s very nice and easy to install you could have use that on top of your riser plates this would’ve made it so that you could remove the Minnkota anytime you want for storage or security or if you just want to move it out of the way during docking procedures.

hello captain, beautiful installation ! this will for sure help you out allot. I think placing a rubber band or some sort of bungee cord on the rail where the head of the Minne Kota meets when in folding position, tying it to the shaft will prevent the long shaft from bouncing to much when under way on the water. maybe the head of the Mind Kota will hit the pilot house. Just to be safe. Hope the motor will bring much joy.

Capt. It's been a while since you did the installation and I have to congratulate you on how very professional you did it amazing and wow how you installed the batteries. Thanks for the video very informative. Would it be possible to ask you for a favor please, my boat like your boat have rails where I would be installing the same model Minn Kota but because of the shortages it might be months when I receive mine. The favor if you are able is to measure from the bottom of trolling motor to the very top to see if it's going to clear the rails, I only have 15" from the flat portion of the bow to the bottom of the rail. If it doesn't clear I have to find another place to install it. I looked everywhere for the complete dimensions but I can't find them anywhere at all. Thank you in advance.
thank you Luis for watching and in your case you have the short rail mine is about 22 inches ,sadly the way i installed mine will not work for you because i only have 2 inches of clearance to retrieved my minn kota cap.
your next move is cutting the bow rail witch i would not do because it will lose strength.

I agree I wouldn't cut the rail I may have to move the motor over to the right of the bow instead of installing closer to the center that way it may clear the rail by installing a 1/2" aluminum plate to hold the motor forward. I really like the way you do your installations a lot of people can learn from your neatness and over engineering, I do the same I better be safe than sorry while on the water.

Great Install, I would like to do this on my Boston Whaler with a bow rail. Would you mine telling me the clearance between your mounting deck and under side of bow rail. Mine measures 16 inches.
