    Wow! I feel like I just finish a 2yr electrical class! Finally hands down the best description! Everyone else on UA-cam talks a lot and no information! They just say I run the wire like this and like that but doesn’t explain anything about bus, fuse, batteries! Thanks bro!

    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

    Thank you, this was so simply explained and well presented.
    Had 2 questions if anyone can answer.
    You mentioned to power off the boat and electronics before switching to battery 1 or 2, what about if you are switching it to the combined setting having power from battery 1 and 2, would you still have to power down the boat?
    And also, when I have 2 batteries on the boat how do you generally charge each battery especially the house bagtery which would be used more for when the boat is off out in the water?
    Sorry may be dumb questions but trying to figure all this out.

    Looks good. One issue is that you do need to fuse the power lead from the battery within 7" of the battery according to the ABYC standard.

    • @ete4445
      @ete4445 Місяць тому

      So a fuse between the battery and starter? I realize this reply is 3 years old but maybe someone may reply.

      @@ete4445 A fuse between the battery and starter isn't required but ABYC says there should be a fuse between the batteries and everything else.

    Great video. Those 3 way switches normally should be a "make before break" switch. This prevents there ever being an open circuit before the next circuit is made. Therefore you can switch through positions 1, 2 and both with motor running as long as you DON'T switch through the OFF position while it is running.

      What is the best way to charge battery 2 (battery 1 being the one used to crank motor over)? Can you switch from battery 1 to battery 2 after starting the motor, provided you don't ever go to the "off" switch? Otherwise, how do you ever charge battery 2 for a situation if you used your stereo at sand bar for quite a while? I would have thought the best way to charge battery 2 would have been to go to the dial where you used batter 1+2 to do so, but you mentioned in the video to not do that very often.

    • @curtisanderson01
      @curtisanderson01 Рік тому

      This is my exact question also... once you drain battery 2 with the stereo/trolling motor/fish finder, etc. Can you switch to battery 1, start the motor up and make sure all is well, then switch to the battery 1&2 position to re-charge battery 2? I completely understand never to switch to, or through the off position with the motor running.

    • @Mornechriz
      @Mornechriz Рік тому

      @@curtisanderson01 If the switch is wired correctly then yes you can. I normally start the motor on one, or sometime both if the starter battery was a bit flat. If you start on 1 (starter battery) let it run on 1 for a bit to recharge and then switch to both or just 2 (house battery)

    Does the alternator just charge whichever one is switched at the time? Or is it charging both simultaneously?

    Good explanation.
    I much prefer the Bluesea dual plus switch (6011) because I just have to turn the switch on when I get in the boat. The motor battery is connected only to the motor, the house battery connected to the house power but the switch turns them both on and off at the same time. And then there is the emergency setting that combines everything together.
    My dumbass would forget to switch the battery from 1 to 2 and back again in your setup.

    • @ReelLifeFisherman
      @ReelLifeFisherman  3 роки тому +1

      Yes that is why I run a battery isolator charging relay so both are always charged and run a on board battery charger at home to do the same .. with running a cranking battery and a deep cycle as a house battery it’s not good to keep them hooked together in parallel through the switch. Because of their different ratings and charge rates .. thanks for watching the video and commenting I appreciate it
