2:53. When I finally got that on clutch, I felt like a punk god.
It's so much fucking fun.

Three days ago I fail terribly at this but now through many hours of practice I can do two or three of them I feel happy
I got 4 in two weeks and 5 basic fills.
2:41 gimme gimme gimme gimme some more gimme gimme gimme don't ask what for
😂😂😂
I've been chewing my mouth off for that beat
I would say for many of the faster punk songs in the stye of NOFX etc which is the style I used to play number 5 is the one you want to be aiming for as this makes it easy to keep up with the guitars when they are going at the speed of linoleum. I first started playing in punk bands when I was still in school so before I knew that beat I tried to play 8th notes on the hi-hat and after 4 or 5 songs it started to feel as if my hands would drop off but as soon as I started playing beat 5 on here then they were the ones trying to keep up with me. It is definitely what any aspiring punk drummer needs in his or her arsenal and couple that with the Bonham triplet fill and simple but sounds brilliant.
I love that Dave wore his DCs so we know he's legit.
I've always love the beat 3 in punk rock songs.
I'm using this video to gather ideas when writing songs for a band. Plus, my foot sucks, so I need ideas for other beats that don't include fast feet. I have been playing for one year and still struggle with foot speed like this. Everyone is different.
This video was super useful for me! Thanks for making it :)
just here to see what to put into drum machine lol
same lmao
actually me too!
That's actually why I'm watching this video lol
Aren’t yall the coolest dudes ever huh
@@torcolts19 yes we are
I am guitarist but also play a lot bass and drums! But i cant play beat 4 and 5 through a complete sond, myfeet and arms are dying then lol. Good video mate! thank you for your help!
2:53 is that the king of the hill intro 😂😂
I love this video so hard. My favorite variations of beat #3 are
1) playing the hi-hat only on the *ands* of each beat (in other words, only when you hit the snare)
2) Take away the 16th notes on beats 2 and 4, replacing them with rests.
I don't play drums, but I'm going to be starting in a few weeks. I can't wait! After writing the drum parts for my songs for almost 10 years, it's going to be cool to finally be able to execute them. Not that I'll even be able to for a while :D
Neild it all of them best video i've seen in a while i've been playing drums now for 3 years and this is the best video to beginners
#3 slow sounds like the beat from Black Flag Gimme Gimme. #3 the old drummer in the band I was in used that beat a lot fast. we played more hardcore/ crossover type punk. Great Demo of beats. I grew up in the 80's playing guitar in punk bands. Now I am trying to learn to play drums. so this stuff helps.
Lessong # 4
A MUST LEARN TO DO IN DRUMS FOR ME!!
(**Well basically for everyone because it strengthens your whole legs and foot power!**)
Wow your videos are really helpful. I'm loving how your teaching fundamentals of different genres thanks! Just subbed
A great example of a drummer who does a little extra with these basics is Derek Bloom.
He mixes up variations, tempos and really likes the tom rolls as fills.
To me, it sounds technical but I’m no drummer.
Just a guitarist who appreciates solid drumming.
I'm a beginner: Started to watch, and love the 'I'll start to play it slowly...'.... and when the play begins I asked myself where I missed the slow part.... then it even goes twice the speed.... HELL!!!!!!!!! Wow, lot of practicing needed, just alone around the 'slow' part, lol :-) Excellent video, thnx!
+TheRaph75 Focus on using a metronome and only play a paradiddle accenting these notes: R l r r L r l l , play these accented notes with the bass drum. Once u can play the paradiddle for 5 mins at 140 BPM, move on to the kit and try this. As far as the bass drum technique goes, u can see different tutorials on the slide and the heel toe technique.
+Adip Ahuja (Rubik Shooter) Thnx, training still going on ^^ :D
If some of these are beginner then I'm not very good 😂
takes time but i got it haha
same
Tvventyonepilot Clique l-/
These are simple, I guess your problem is to separate your foot from your right hand, right?
it will take time with your rhythm just practice I play guitar and I played my drummers kit and I'm kinda good buut just learn rhythm
Finally someone who clearly shows how to play beat nr 3. This guy knows real punk drumming.
this punk sure sounds like pop
spyroninja pop punk my guy
Ewe
Not to mention how much does that drum-kit and cymbals cost..
ah ah ah go lissen to black flag and tell me if the 3rd one is pop get your shit togetter
Well the 3rd one he is playing Infested by Choking Victim
2:39, when slow is dammit, when fast is Josie
i swear its Anthem Part 2 also just around 30 seconds
@RedDeadPsycho If you've just started then you need to keep practicing, if you've never played drums before then you won't get the hang of it right away, keep at it!
I'll hgave you know that I'm a clasically trained percussionist and just joined a rock band, and my bassist suggested I put a punk rock beat to one of our songs. I decided to watch this video to see if I could learn something-and it's a lot to learn! You got a problem with that?
Omg theres hill for technique in drums too? I'm a car guy and it's really cool to hear that in somewhere other than cars lol. Love the lessons thanks mate!
#3, first beat I learned over 10 years ago now
I liked this during the intro
I am wondering if you could do a video like this on Grunge drumming. I know there is a relation.
Number 3 it's just like the basic Thrash Beat, if you have a double bass pedal use it, it's easier
What's the name of beat number 5? It's the classic 'sped up drums' feel when you want to make a part of the song go crazy. Would love to know the name of the beat for communicating with other musos.
Money beat my Friend!
yeah dude haha i found out just practicing ur bass with ankle weights really helps you get down that speed AND control. speed for me is easy its just the control and timing that takes some time to get
really nice and clear lessons...Good stuff Dave...
Very well done and extremely helpful.
i like the second beat.
The third beat is so sick
these videos really help me
How can a beginner be expected to get such fast bass drum hits?
Its all about slowly building speed while practicing
Learn from a better channel..
Punk music, by it's nature is fast. These are "beginner" punk beats in the sense that they are the bare basics for a lot of beats in the genre. But they're not "beginner" in the sense that anyone can just jump in.
As with any instrument, if you want to play fast you have to start slow and build up speed through muscle memory and repetition.
The first examples show you the beats at speeds a beginner can handle with a little grit and dedication.
The second examples are to prove that the examples work when brought up to playing speed.
My drum teacher taught me #2 haha I was thinking it sounded familiar. We also do snare on 2 + instead of bass on 3+ and it sounds wicked :)
the eight beat haha the first one I learned
3 and 5 look the same, the only difference is that playing on 1 - drum or kick, right?
These guys are great !
thank you for posting this up.
PLAY SOME CRUST PLEASE
EWout Zandhuis well the 3rd one he’s playing Choking Victim
You mean Dbeats...
Fantastic!!! Thanks for this
I want these punk drumless tracks so that i can practice
Great video. Snare sounds awesome! He did a good video on the slide technique, which is what he is using, i believe
2: guitar sounds like rock show- blink 182
just in time thanx Dave!
Great thanks I learned
THANK YOU
I could never figure out number 3 and some times my foot or thigh Locks up playing very fast to songs like blitzkrieg bop or rock n roll
you have to bare in mind that this is 'Beginner PUNK' beats. In punk, it doesn't really get any easier than this, without it being classed as just rock, really.
Really helpful, thank you.
Dave can you do a video on drum head/kit tuning for punk rock ?
Great vid! Was looking though countless videos on a lesson that covered punk rock beats but none with all the the ones you played. Especially NO.3 you're correctvery big with nofx, Offspring, Mxpx. Very fun beat. Thanks for the vid!
thanks bro! excelent tips!
Number 2 was in Sgt. Peppers Lonley Hearts Club Band reprise wasn't it?
+Phat Poodles its in every fuckin song
cal
Dave Akinson What is the difference between Beginner no. 4 and Beginner no. 5?
it was soooo cool man ! thank's
whats the difference between 3 and 5?
#3 fat wreck such as lagwagon nufan etc
Good Video, and thanks for your hard work! But just so you know the sheet music on your site is wrong; pattern #5 shows a kick on the 4 instead of a snare.
@nejim4r10 punk songs are about unity or protest. ;)
Very good!!!!
Very good and laid out good. What is the best way to exercise the techniques in my wrist and legs for the speed and tempo?
To get more stamina...
I usually exhaust my high-hat hand halfway into the song when playing at 180-200 bpm. How can you avoid that?
move you arm up and down as you play. you'll get a lot more speed out of it and you'll work your wrist less.
+JackBluebee that's what I do and it works great
i would kill for a shred of your talent
Thanks man
three was just a D-beat unless there was a double kick at the end. if there was no kick twice and S-HH-K its called a dbeat. bands such as discharge and the varukers to coined it.
the good old gallop drum beat.
Nice.
@SuperVorbild agree
Was here for #3
And you would be a music professional? Or their manager?
nice, very helpfull
2:40 i have a fucking show to play on the 27th and i still need to get that down!!!
2:40 Rock N Roll High School by The Ramones
@aceisking really hard on top skins, softer in the bottom
yeah for beginners, that was the first punk thingy i could
Yeah it is, I'm a beginner, and it's perfect for me! :)
I think number 5 is used in thrash metal as well.
Thank you for the video. Now i have to traine XD
what is the song in the very beginning with like the text popping up before the guy
like it thank you sir
haha awesome! good on ya dude
keep trying man, was in the same position as you. you will get the hang of it in no time. as you keep on practicing you'll start to notice your speed and control is getting more accurate
@xXMrSondreXx Practise, you don't get good the first time you hit a drum no matter who you are. Try to learn "du riechst so gut" by rammstein, quite a good starter ^^
Have i been playing punk all my life and not even know it? These are easy!
@stinaldinho finally someone who has a brain, I'm sick of people calling them punk.
So how you begin the beat sort of I'm sorry I'm not a drummer. I have drum a pad and a pedal I'm learning.
nice
I can't get the grasp of 3rd rhythm, could anyone please write it for me? I'm a beginner and he goes a little too fast for me.
Epic!
Really? My family a lot of them are drummers, I learned these beats within 5 minutes of watching and trying, they are actually easy for me even though i'm a beginner. I can also listen to beats and duplicate them sometimes.
rocker for lifeee!!!! rageeeeeeeeeee
its all about the forbidden beat!
#3?
I call number 4 "the shin splinter"
@stinaldinho very true
Number 3 needs da Heel Toe technique?
+esau817 Or Slide foot
@stinaldinho I agree with that ;)
@mjeffbr no...i just played for month n i can play this!
