Bloody hell, I've heard #4 SO many times, but never understood the timing of it. Thanks so much for this!
Been a punk rock drummer for almost 15 years now, coming to get some pointers on changing up my beat vocabulary. I do a variation of #4 where I hit bass twice on 2 instead of just once, and it's my favorite beat to play. I'm really looking for help with what I've always known as "The Forbidden Beat". Simple bass/snare/bass-bass/snare, but done at insane speed.
its really not too hard to it, you just gotta practice it a lot. linoleum or josie is a great practice song for it. first bass is with your foot all the way forward then the bass bass you do by moving your foot a little bit back
The hitting-flashing idea is great. It's much helpful :D
If I'm not wrong no. 4 is a classic tre cool beat.
True
It's in a lot of punk rock songs, even punk pop like Ocean Avenue era Yellowcard
Correction: L. Parsons - era Yellowcard
crazyassdrummer i thought its no. 2
I love tre's style
perfect sounding kit
#5 is basically Rapid Fire by Judas Priest, just each part is 2 bars instead of one. British Steel is a great album for building your chops up btw.
I don't think that #2 would work by itself but it definitely could work as a fill sometimes throughout the song.
It sounds like the immigrant song from Black Sabbath
+awesomecooly123 Immigrant song? Black Sabbath? LOL
+awesomecooly123 your comment was the worst thing that ever happened in September 11.
It works in a song.
Does Jared know you're playing his kit?
I agree, i never listened a double bass in a punk band, you'll only see it in drum covers like cobus's ones
4 AND 5 Sounded like Bad Religion stuff. Listen to old Lag Wagon, Pulley, Strung Out and most of yhe old Fat Wreck Chords bands from good fast technical punk stuff. Thia video wasn't bad it actually sounded like punk stuff not like most "punk drumming" videos I've seen. I am a punk drummer as well
Love those bands rock on
And I'm 14 and I started playing drums 9 months ago I plan on being in a skate punk or hardcore punk band when I'm out of high school with my friends punk will never die!
Gaming Deluxe Cool, I am 40 and I have been listening to pop punk and skate punk since about 95' and my 18 yr old son and I have a 2 man garage band. My son plays guitar, bass, and violin but he's been getting pretty good at drums and I play drums, guitar, and bass. if you want to see some of our practice videos go to my page and look under the "band practice" playlist.
I will sub too ;)
you just listed like all my fave punk bands in one sentence. bravo. Lol
I really dig these Dav Atkinson videos.. Short and sweet :)
Yuri from MxPx and NOFX's drummer are great examples of fast clean punk drumming
Nice.... love to see the breakdown on drum beats👌👌👌and punk is just awesome...
Eric Walls from the Koffin Kats uses a double pedal. Leftover crack uses one I think as well. I agree though, that style of use for a double kick isn't very punk sounding, if I'm playing punk with a double kick I use it for triplets or gallops.
Brooks Wackerman of Bad Religion uses a double pedal btw
thankyou so much!!!! beat no.4 was in a song and I've ben trying to learn in for sooo long!
just got some new beats to build on! thanks!
I am not a fan of double bass drums in punk. By all means in metal but less of a necessity in punk rock. I see great punk bands all the time and one bass drum and one pedal. If you do not believe me listen to Smelly from NOFX. I saw live and he recreates his studio work perfectly. What stamina.
misfit yeah but if you use it right it’s awesome in punk rock. Bad Religion uses double kicks well.
11 years later we still didnt see Advanced Punk Rock Drum Beats
Sounds cool sir
WTF THE DOUBLE BASS BEAT WAS AWESOME!
About time someone put some decent effort into a punk drumming video!
Moree intermediate punk rock drum beats please! or advanced
Freedrumlessons! i really like how you add the beat into a song setting! do it more often please!! :D
@blacklikeink no, Jared Falk is a really good drummer. he was just handling the easy stuff in those first vids.
Technically, for beat number 5 you don't actually need the double pedals. You could do it using a single if you are skilled enough with heel-toe. Which I am not..
Yes I have. Also, send me a link to a single crust song where double pedal is used.
Thanks
Awesome!
very sympathique man! and good lesson too!!
Nice lesson(s), i am not a drummer but as a bass player i need to
be friend with the drummer :)
Why isn't the 3rd tom (used as a bass in the first example) replaced by a double bass kick? In other words why not just double tap the bass pedal or use a double instead of the tom?
this is soo tight
you are a legend
NICE!!!!!!!!!
I'm trying to find the origin of 'that' punk beat but I don't know what it's called. You hear it in tons of punk songs. For example it's the main beat at the beginning of Blink 182's 'Josie'. What's it called? Thank you!
Did you ever figure this out? Because I’ve been trying to figure it out for forever.
@@cadillacyoung No unfortunately. It's considered a pretty basic punk rock beat using sixteenth notes on the kick drum but in terms of it's true origin, as in where it was first played and by who I've had no luck.
Ever heard of crust punk? You know, the punkest sub genre of punk music.
I can never figure out number 4 it has always bugged me
Listen to the offspring, many many of their songs use that beat. That's how I got it
super good!
La doppia cassa nel punk rock? Della serie quando il mare è calmo ogni strunz è marinaio
Simple guitars + Complex drums = Blink182
The last beat sounds like power metal drumming.
Punk drumming is something you just play without being taught. Also, why is there no D-beat in this video?
cuz he ignorant
Mountain Troll d beat was in the beginner punk beats if I'm not mistaken
is d beat the RLRLRLRLRL beat that goes BUDABUDABUDABUDABUDABUDABUDABUDA and sounds like a train
Mountain Troll it was in the beginner section
There's no d-beat in the beginning section, man. It couldn't be in a beginner's guide, fuck!
I like number 4
One of the styles of GREEN DAY
Hi where did u get music from? Really wanted it
Actually, beat number 1, their is an alternative to it that sounds better. Use singles instead of 1 hit on the tom. It will really work in fast songs.
@BrisbaneGoFish with immeasurable intelligence.
You know, on beat #3 you could go RLL on that triplet instead of LRL. Much easier, and much more natural in my opinion. If I listen to someone doing this beat, I wouldn't doubt that the drummer's going RLL on that triplet.
Couldn't had more agreed with you. :D
GOOD
Did anyone else get reminded of "Aliens Exist" by blink-182 when he played exercise #2 fastly?
Just because you choose to use a double bass or not does not make you any more or less punk. Dystopia used a double bass and they're were one of the best hardcore bands ever.
2:36 crazy :O i like your shoes
How do you ge your bass drum to sound like that
lightning hands
i thought i was a beginner for a second, but these beats are easy!
I'd really like to see that. :)
Punkrock with double pedal? GTFO.
suicidal tendencies plz
suicidal tendencies is lame as fuck
Punx Suicidal Tendencies is basically metal...
WTF is wrong with that guy.
Chester Rico
In its beginnings it was hardcore punk
Neck Deep is a good punk band that uses a double pedal
1:10 Nirvana - Aneursym
Close but Dave Grohl plays a slightly different beat between the kick and floor than pictured in this lesson.
45
Question. I have a four piece drum set which has two toms can I still do beat no.2?
rosanne lobaton yeah of course! Watch some Travis Barker or Josh Dun! They use them too.
#4piece4ever
@DRUMMER1926 pearl demon drive
have doing crescendo??
у меня такие же кросы в детстве были
rou rocks!
Maybe if you told us what to do that would help
#4 sounded better slow
He Has The Same Name As Me xD
The first time I watched this, Rowan Atkinson was on my television.
Are you guys related? .-.
Doubt it-Dave's a Canadian; Rowan's an Englishman.
Haha thats exactly what I thought
I do not know many punk drummers who use a metronome :o)
Descendents beats.
Punk drummers play however the fuck they like.
it's metal core when you put double bass
beginner beats 3 and 5 are harder than the first four here
arrrrg why do i did i chose this type of music to play
Punk drummers are only suppose to play Single Pedal... Not double
why dont you made an advanced lesson? =~
Oh So Pro O.O
That's Right! I hate dubble bass !
what kind of kit is that?
Dw I think
Thanks Kermit!
the overhead cam looks like drums for iphone
sad to see theres no drumbeats like those of crimpshrine
SOMEONE listens to Bad Religion ;)
Chris Dawson dude bad religion is really fucking great
+Chris Dawson Actually, a lot of people do...
And someone likes somebody called Brooks...
" i am gonna use both pedals because i suck at single pedal " :p
watch?v=9H2R7wqoQ5g
As you said Dystopia were hardcore, not punk
2018 enyone
@slim0000shady YOU DONT KNOW WHAT OI! IS? OMG!!!! lol.
i almost dont want you to stop just rock the fuck out lol
i love you :)
I could play the fifth one with a single pedal...
Oh, come on.
I like how the drum heads shine every time u hit them xD
Ha thats supermarket fantacy at first
I thought i was a Jedi and could make the drums light up as he hit them, then i realized it was just the editing... sad times.
why am I here I don't even own a drumset
any expert ones? XD
1000th like dayum
Hardcore punk. dur
