Thanks for the video. Did the relocation install yesterday in chilly weather. Took about 3.5hrs. Canopy light removal was fast, getting adhesive off not; cheated and left some. Doing the brake light removal helped. Only screw up was inserting cable through cab first then running back through cab bed. The larger connector at the canopy end wouldn't fit through the bed holes. And only broke one little trim keeper. That's success for me. Thanks.13:40
I installed it over two days because of other appointments. The cap brake light was the hardest. I spent two hours on the first day. 15 minutes of actual install work and 1 hour and 45 minutes with a sharpened putty knife, scraping, acetone washing, and fingernail digging to get that damn 3M tape off. Today, I spent another 2 hours running the camera cable to the roof of the driver's side back seat. Tip - pull the tail light off - just two screws and easy peezy from there. Everything was exactly like this great video. Very pleased with the result. The camera quality is as good as the GM OEM. Great product! Worth every penny. Looking forward to the brake light replacement with the built-in camera. ARE should offer it as an option with their caps.
Awesome and extremely helpful video! Also thanks to Tom Whitlow comment for the tip on removing the taillight. ARE Revo truck cap on GMC 2024 Denali HD. Hardest part was getting the video lead through the truck bed and down behind the left taillight bc that is where the truck cap's wires were also run -- would not fit with both or even 1 protective tubing. What worked for me -- I pulled the plastic protective tubing off from the cap wires and then taped the video wire to two of the cap wires and fed it through both holes, then reattached the protective tubes to each set of wires from top and bottom. For the hole into the rear seat, I used a 1/2 drill bit through the hard plastic cap and then a 2 inch grommet siliconed to sit on top of the hole/plastic cap, then siliconed from both sides. Really happy with having the rear view camera back again after 2 months of looking through the tinted cap glass.
Great vid. I have been concerned about getting a cap for this exact reason. Now I know there is a solution. Not a fan of how obvious the camera is. Would be nice to have it integrated to the brake light, but at least it's something. Thanks for sharing.
Check the space between your open rear window and the camera body. I have a 2023 GMC 1500 Denali and a Z2 ARE cap. My rear window is pushing the ENTIRE light assembly up and away from the cap body! It's overpowering the 3M tape and tearing it loose. I've asked CameraSource for a higher bracket or some other way to raise the camera above the level where the rear window can hit it.
Great video. Sharp looking 2500 you got there.Looking at this for my silver 2020 HD Denali. I was wondering about the carwash, too so thanks for the insight.
Ben, I've had to adjust it a few times from the car wash now. I was thinking about retightening the screw, but I think I'd rather let it get moved a little instead of breaking off.
Just installed the camera relocation kit on my 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500Hd LTZ with a Leer Cab. On the Leer Cab, there are two screws on the inside of the camper shell that hold the third brake light in place, so it does not require the adhesive tape. I had already installed a bedrug and when the camper shell was put on, they had run a braided wiring through the location from the bed that is shown in the video. I pulled the taillight as suggested from a previous comment and still I worked several hours trying to feed the camera wiring through the same area with no success. Since I had the bedrug I decided to drill a hole lower down from the hole that was suggested. The bedrug would cover the wiring. Using a Stepdown Drill bit, I was able to accomplish the task to get the wiring through and underneath the bed. By placing a piece of 2by4 under the carpet, I also used an extension and a stepdown drill bit to drill through the grommet under the passenger seat area as shown in the video. Great video and now I have my Mirror working fine.
What about the bed camera? Have a link for that camera to see the stuff in the bed? I did the same thing for rear view mirror but that same camera doesn’t work for bed camera or cargo camera
@@4RibsFishing I wonder if their 360 camera they sell will work for it now as it looks to be the same kind of camera but its more expensive than this camera
Great video! thank you for the detailed instruction. BTW, does your truck has the camera which is looking down the bed, located beside the rear view mirrior camera ?
Thank you for the video. I will be doing this on my 2024 3500. It will be great to have the Rear View Camera function again. But, with a canopy on, I'm wondering why relocating the cargo camera would have much value to me. I really don't need to look into my canopy with a camera. It's a great function with an open box to monitor cargo in the box, but with a fully enclosed canopy I don't see the need for it. @@4RibsFishing
Could this camera be mounted inside the truck cap viewing out through the glass? Looks like that camera may get ripped off if you go through a car wash
Looking at getting on of these truck coming from a 2022 Ram 2500. What your impressions of the truck do far? I tow a 26foot boat running about 9500 to 10k fully loaded.
Airman, I tow a 30' boat with twin 300s on a steel trailer. 10-12k depending on fuel load, etc. this truck is a beast. I'm so happy I didn't go for diesel. I towed the same boat for a couple years with a max tow prepped 1/2 ton. GM said it could do the weight, but it was white knuckled. This truck can do so much more.
Does this affect the 360 view on the camera display? Do you still get the side view cameras as well? Curious to know what camera views this affects by relocating. Thank you.
We have a Denali so I don’t know if it is any different with the cameras. Someone said it would affect the 360 camera view because that pulls from multiples cameras and moving this rear view mirror view camera could affect that.
Hi GREAT VIDEO! I have a 2025 Silverado with an ARE Topper. The relocation mounting bracket looks a little weak for car washes etc... I am thinking I would like to try to mount (double stick tape?) the camera to the inside of the rear topper glass. I am not sure if the tint on the rear glass will be a problem. Could you test something for me and put a cheap pair of sunglasses in front of your camera lens and advise if it still works? Thank you.
@@4RibsFishingHi, Rotating of the camera is not acceptable. I am hoping I can find an acceptable way to mount it to the rear topper glass. Please notify me ASAP Thank you.
@@arlenewolf5260 when I say rotate I mean it taps it slightly down. Still pointed in a usable direction, but not my preferred setting. I have metal doors so an inside mount is not possible. @@4RibsFishing Hi you state" I have metal doors so an inside mount is not possible. " I must have said something wrong.. The photo of your ARE topper shows a Smoked rear glass door (not metal). What I meant to say was to see if the camera could be mounted (double stick 3M Tape) to the inside of the rear glass of the topper in the area under the third brake light. If the smoke rear glass allows you to see through it, that would be a great way to mount it. That is why I said if you can see the camera image through dark tinted sunglasses in front of the camera lens, I would definitely find a way to mount (relocate) it to the inside of the rear topper glass hatch door. The bracket that comes with the kit looks like it just wont cut it for me.

Great video instructions!! After seeing your UA-cam, I got the kit and installed the kit on my Sierra HD 2023. Thank you.
You are very welcome. Call them and ask for a kit for the bed camera. If they hear of more demand they will work on one.

Maybe. My back door is aluminum so it won't work for me. It does get moved in the car wash.
Did your kit allow your mirror to display rearview when in drive
Yes. This kit just relocated the factory camera. The mirror always and only acts as a rear view mirror.

You can always fabricate your own mount, or even alter theirs. It shouldn't be that hard.
