    24' 2500 Silverado crew standard bed. L8T . Custom
BEST TRUCK EVER ...... added a catch can to help the valves.
Solid engine and trans. I gravitate towards the gauges and work dashboard . Can't imagine being on the highway and getting trouble with your dash. Will trust analog over digital for reliability. However, very few people had that problem.

What are you referring to when you say a "Catch Can"?

    • @MIIIB
      @MIIIB 13 днів тому +2

@glennmiller1183 oil catch "oil separator." Small cylinder with a metal mesh filter inside and connected in the return line (air) to the intake, so catch the oil before reaching your valves, due to Direct Injection and not Port Injection, you get many carbon building in the back of the valves. Valves can be clean by maintenance, but the catch can help to prevent build up. Brand J&L

I have a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 with a 6.6 gas engine and 6-speed transmission. It has been my daily driver and official vacation vehicle for four years. It now has around 130,000 miles on the clock. So far, the only non-consumable I have had to replace was a $12 cap on the top of the windshield washer bottle. The dealer has always done maintenance, and I pay for the more detailed "severe" service schedule. Oil consumption is consistently, one quart every 5,000 miles. The original brakes are at 68% front and 79% rear. I never tow and my fuel mileage is around 12 mpg in town and 17 mpg on long trips. I live in Florida and the truck has no rust and an a/c unit that makes life bearable in the summer. To this day, this truck is the best vehicle I have ever owned.

My FIL has a '20 6.6 over in TN. Tows his 13k travel travel all over the U.S with it. About 90,000 miles so far. No issues. I got a chance to drive it. I was impressed. It compares well to my 7.3 gasser. Which suprised me given how much smaller it is. Definitely gets better fuel economy. I scored 19 mpg during my time with it. My 7.3 averaged 13. My all time best was 15 but extremely difficult to do. Im a conservative driver. Those 4.30s and 35s dont help with mpg

I probably would've gotten an SLT or AT4 if it weren't for those concrete seats. Super Duty seats are the most comfortable I've ever been in. That and a few other things (stronger engine, big fuel tank with the long bed, massaging seats in a trim down from the top one, pano sunroof, tailgate down camera and sensors, etc.) put me in a Ford.
Not married to it though. GM comes through on some of that stuff in 5 years I'll be giving them another look for sure.

    Nice review.
I love my 2022 2500 LT Silverado. Coming up on 54,000 miles. So far I’ve had no issues. It’s on trips back to the dealer was to let them complete some of their add ons (interior protectant, paint sealant) and then for a recall. I took delivery on the same day the truck came in and so I actually wanted them to do the interior protectant that they do so we scheduled it for a week or so after I took delivery and then the recall was for installing the correct front shocks. My truck is a Z71 and has the HD Front Springs/Camper package. So instead of getting the Ranchos on the front it had the standard GM shocks.
Mine is also my favorite truck that I’ve had. My only regret is messing up on the order and not getting the power fold mirrors with the auxiliary lighting. And then a do over for me would be getting bucket seats instead of the bench.

OMG! Such insignificant issues most of which are directed at screens that have nothing to do with safe driving. My 2024 Chevy HD 2500 is 13 months old and yes only has 5500 miles on it but the 10 speed is awesome, no auto stop/start or cylinder deactivation. The LT has this beautiful dash with so many useless features that only distract a driver from the one thing they should be focused on. Call me old school but navigating a 3 ton vehicle should require ones full attention forward. The truck? EXCELLENT!

I agree that GMC has really stepped it up. I would like to see the gear as well and my air compressor runs on the old 12volt plug. All valid points. A software update for the gear would be great. I actually got the 3500 diesel Denali but I still watch your channel because I was really torn on which one to get. I was able to get a 24’ diesel for the price of the 25’gas. Though the leather seats look nice the clothes seats were more comfortable. I did a 200 mile test with no load driving country back roads and some 70 mph highways and got 20 mpg. I’m very impressed with those numbers and the power but I know it comes at a slight bit more maintenance cost. Thanks for the video. Keep em coming. 👍🏻

I have a 2022 2500 HD, two wheel drive, LT. I got a rattle in the passenger door. Turning up the radio, you would not hear it. Radio off, and it was a low, annoying rattle. I finally took the inside door panel off, down to the metal. Drove the truck and it was still there. I shook, beat, hit, on everything in that door. Nothing. Finally, after a week of driving the truck like this, I put the panel back on. On the trip to my Montana cabin, I told the wife, when I get to the cabin, that door panel was coming back off. I was going to find that rattle. I let the wife drive on the trip for a while, so I could listen, around the door, to see where the rattle was, and it was toward the mirror area. Well, on the trip, I had to fold the mirrors in, at a hotel. The next morning, I folded them back out. NO MORE RATTLE, as of today, and that was last summer I did this. I don't know if it moved a cable in the mirror or if the mirror was not in it's locked position properly, but the rattle has not returned. It was like having a new truck.

I have the 2024 gas 3500 Denali. In nine months I’ve put 15k miles, and everything has been trouble free, with only oil changes and a software update being necessary. I bought this because I only tow 10K pounds occasionally, and was coming from a F150 3.5 Ecoboost. The difference in towing is huge, and I’m happy with the choice, and having not chosen the diesel. I wanted gas, but not with the problematic Active Fuel Management or Displacement on Demand that is present on every other GM V8 engine. I’ve had no issues with oil consumption. I only wish the column shift didn’t block part of the infotainment screen, and also wish that there was a numerical gear indicator. Also, it’s super annoying that these trucks don’t come with HD radio, and it’s pretty much not disclosed anywhere. Every car I’ve bought in the last 10 years came stock with HD radio, so it’s annoying not to. Also, the manual steering wheel adjustment feels cheap, and should be motorized in a truck that costs this much. That also would allow it to be memory set for different drivers.

that silver is beautiful and that wheel pkg is perfect for stock truck...GM has best overall HD imo though not perfect....almost nabbed one but was a lil to far away, really hard to find a gasser when I was shopping....was in between 24s being mostly sold and 25s still coming in
it is actually amazing the ratio of diesels to gas produced in this segment......
the multipro is a gamechanger...same as you didnt think much but then had it on half ton, went to a 3/4 without and missed having it so much it was a big reason I got another one, especially how tall these trucks are...tthey make a special hitch for it and you can lock the gate so it wont function if needed.
great truck should last you along time, obviously with the computers they are bound to have glitches....mine has been really good so far aside from the first week of ownership......

I appreciate your review. Comparable Silverado 2500 HD with 703 miles in 2 months. Still trying to sort out the furrion camera issue. 12 volt adapter from Amazon to USB C powers the monitor, but not enough to keep monitor constantly on. 8 watt, 2amp. Should work. That's my biggest beef with a truck that's designed to tow. Have called Lippert (Furion camera systems) and it appears the space and time continuum is disrupted by the flux capacitor, as you mentioned. $70.00 pigtail between the 7way connection might rectify. On my survey response to GM I mentioned the lack of 12v. Outlet as my biggest disappointment. Maybe they'll listen to us. No dashcam; air compressor; backup camera etc. without it. I'll check the bolt holding down the reservoir tomorrow. Love your content and straightforward delivery.

On the options, one example is the SLE Convenience package that includes things like dual zone cliam, heated seats, and various other niceties. If you go onto the GMC site and select build it'll walk you through the choices there. It takes some time and trial/error to get a grasp for all the options and packages, but once you settle on a configuration a dealer can take that build and get it official for you.

My 2024 Sierra Denali 3500 with 28,000 miles has been at the dealer for 3 months waiting for the replacement valve body. Apparently they are failing so frequently the part manufacturer has fallen way behind.

It’s a diesel and I do tow a mid-size fifth wheel with it (gross weight of the trailer is 15.5k - not at all close to the truck’s rating). Now that the gasser has the same Allison 10 speed, I doubt there is any difference between gas and diesel.

As far as the Allison branding...my understanding is GM collaborated with Allison on the transmission and the brand is more or less their stamp of approval on it for a lack of better explanation. I've really enjoyed the transmission so far, but time will tell how it performs in the long haul. I've had a few with the Duramax comment on trans issues in a couple videos, but can't recall anyone commenting with the gasser/L8T yet.

So those that are watching this and own ether a Chev refresh interior dash or the GM similar to this or instead what might be referred to as the "premium" refresh dash that only the GM brand trucks such as the AT4, Denali, Denali ultimate have, what are your thoughts. By eye the upscale dash comes off as a fancier system with the vents where they are positioned, the center console design and where they place the row of switches etc on the center dash ... brake controller on the console rather than the dash and so forth. The one complaint I have heard is that the gear shift lever gets in the way of the infotainment center since its set lower in the dash, but there may be other pluses aside from the visual as well.

    • @kirkdunn1379

on the upper trims the screen sits lower so the column shifter does block the screen....the interior is a little nicer and repositioned a bit different....tbh it wouldnt bother me much and I almost bought an AT4 or Denali.....SLT popped up though with a far better deal so I purchased this one instead....
you would have to go sit or drive in one to see what you think....but yeah it does partially block left side of info center where shortcut buttons are
I kind of lean towards the right side anyway while driving so it probably wouldn't be an issue

Exterior wise I like some looks and shapes of the Chev, while other items better on the GMC. As crazy as this sounds I decided on the Chev because I could still get it in a color that I wanted that they were also making in 2024 for the Denali but no longer do for 2025. I had the chev dealer search for a 2024 with options I was after and he came up empty handed as higher optioned gas engine HD trucks are not nearly as common it seems around here than the duramax. Basically the the attitude for years around here has been either you drive a diesel and your "somebody" or you are nobody and drive a gas truck. I'm ok with being a nobody !. Of course the high country comes with painted bumpers and am not hot on them but it is what it is, I plan on spending even more to have the paint protection film put on the bumpers and so forth as rocks are a part of life up here with gravel roads everywhere and gravel tracking onto the paved roads, that and also substantial mudflaps.
