Hey everyone, let me know if this lesson was helpful and where are you at with your theory. This will help me when I put together future lessons! Thanks for all your support!✌️
This was great! Two things I'm wondering after watching it: 1- Landing on the 3rd sounds great at each key change, but what about when playing A minor pentatonic over A major? Do you play that minor 3rd anyway (C), or stick to the 1 and 5 (A&E). I'll go find the answer by trying :-) 2- In the final solo, I'd love to have seen labels (or just heard them called out) when switching between scales. This would help me duplicate, and build association with the sound.
@@danwoods4269 for the first question I usually either hammer on from the minor third to the major third or slightly bend the minor third and back to the root note A. Just playing the minor third (c) does clash with all three chords. That can sound bluesy by adding the major third by bending or hammering on. And yes great idea to call out or text on the screen the chord changes and the scale I’m using with that chord! These are great questions and you got me thinking about some upcoming lessons I really appreciate it Dan! Enjoy your Sunday buddy🙏
Best guitar info online!! Amazing content Rusty. I’ve been playing for 40 years. I like the fact that you explain shortcuts that will have people playing melodies in a couple hours. Is like sitting down with a friend. Love what your doing.
I think we over complicate improvising. Play a few choice notes and have fun!!! Thanks a lot for checking out the video and leaving this great comment! Later Leroy 😎
Man, I’ve struggled to fully grasp how soloing works. This video has made it so much clearer and brought me to a better understanding though I have a long way to go. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together 👍🙏🎉
The biggest thing is make a connection from the cord to the scale that you are using. I did not do that early on and it took me decades to grasp! If you start doing that now you’ll never regret it! Thanks for leaving this great comment and have a good week✌️
THIS IS MUST LESSON for all those who want to learn soloing. I wish II had started with major chords instead of with blues chords . I had spent two whole years on trying to solo in blues and not getting no where. Don’t get me wrong I love the blues but I wish I had started on a lesson like this then moving onto the blues. Thank you Rusty. Your teaching is direct , inspiring and you explain everything so well. I just wait for your solos at the end of your lessons..and spend days taking them apart just to some more of you. Truly inspirational music.
Wow! I’ve been playing for years but this is the first time I’ve ever seen a comprehensive and doable lesson on how the release the melody. Thanks heaps.
Hi Rusty I just want to say a big thank you ........I can improvise in the key of a song but never was able to make it melodic and this tutorial along with your other ones are a great resource for me and many others........I'm going to spend the next few months doing a deep dive on these tutorials and really internalise and study chord tone soloing ...........again a big thank you Paul from Ireland
Greetings from the USA Paul! knowing the notes is only the first step. Making it sound like music and having a good flow to the notes is the next step for sure! I am working on a way to get that point across better in some upcoming lessons! I really appreciate your comments and support always! Enjoy the rest your week👍
@@rustysguitar1 that's great Rusty I really look forward to all your tutorials........I can make it sound bluesy and it definetly sounds like music but I'm only improvising in the key of the song...........your tutorials are really gonna help me break out of that type pf playing
A good rule to follow is the low/high rule... Start out low and move your solo upwards as you go and finish on a high bend or vibrato-note. This builds tension in the listener's ear. The other thing to keep in mind is that speed playing sounds more interesting when you set it up with more lyrical lines. If you play fast all the time with no space in your playing you'll just bludgeon people to death sonically. I see this in Nashville a lot. Some incredibly advanced technical players who just can't "shut up" for lack of a better term. To qoute the late/great Lowell George who had to scold bassist Freebo once during a session.. "space is a place". 🤘

I wish I would have seen this video sooner! As someone who struggled through the process of what am I supposed to do/learn/practice this video does a really good job hitting the key points. The most important thing in my opinion is practicing in different keys with different scales and figuring out where the root notes and key notes are (chord notes/3rds/7ths whatever) that you want to highlight specifically for the mood of what you're playing. I really appreciate that! Glad you liked the video lesson! Thank you ✌️
Wow, that was so refreshing and easy to understand. Thank you so much for that!
Hey Nate, hope you take away some ideas from the lesson! Thanks man ✌️
Very helpful. An eye-opener for me was finding out that progression was in D. LOL. I would have said A.
Knowing it's in D allows you to play up the neck on that Dmaj scale. Learn something new every day. Thanks!
Thanks a lot Robert! Yes, all of those chords can be built with the D major scale. I appreciate the comment bro 😎
Great lesson. Thanks Rusty. Amazing step by step short lesson.
Thanks a lot Rex! I really appreciate you leaving a comment! Have a great week ✌️
Excellent video. I'm a singer rhythm player for the past 60 plus years. You may have inspired me to play lead! Thanx.
Yeah man! Just add a few notes to those chords! And it will help your rhythm playing by adding some melody to those chords! Thanks so much David! I appreciate your comment ✌️
Thanks Rusty ... as a beginner this lessons is so worth it ... thank you so much
You’re welcome Monty! Glad that you’re enjoying the lesson’s! Thanks bud 👍
A great lesson Rusty. I know some theory but not great at application. I like this lesson a lot because it explains what and why you are doing. Great playing and love the sound of your Strat. Thank you.
Thanks so much Rick! Glad you liked the lesson buddy! Much appreciated 👌
I have watched this 5 times and I get more ideas every time! Love this video. Thank you Rusty
Very glad to hear that Tony! Thanks so much buddy ✌️
Nice lesson, very helpful! Thanks Rusty 🙏
I appreciate that Downey! Thank you and enjoy your Sunday 🙏
Great lesson.....and your demo sort of sounds like "Can't You See" by Marshall Tucker Band.....a LONG time ago....very nice
I love that Marshall Tucker sound! Thanks a lot Rick! I appreciate your comment and support! Enjoy your Sunday 🙏
Wow first time hearing the third note technique. Most tutorials teach about targetting the tonic.
Yes that is a sweet note! I still have to work on this every day myself but it’s well worth the effort to get better at this technique! I appreciate your comment and support! Have a great week✌️
Cool lesson how to combine everything and glue everything together . I must say your approach has that Southern Rock feel and sound ... the Allman bros band stuff .. there’s this almost happy vibe .. enjoyed this lesson getting structure in a solo .. 😊
Always appreciate your feedback John! When I hear a track like this, that’s what comes out of me! I love that style! Thanks a lot for your comment buddy! Have a great week ahead ✌️
Very helpful lesson - thanks. It would be great to have the backing track also so we could give it a shot ourselves.
Glad the lesson was helpful Chris! I did leave a link for the backing track in the description. It is a great backing track to jam ! Thanks man ✌️
Amazing playing. Sounded so good
Thank you ✌️
That was a great lesson ! I really enjoyed the song you put together .
Thanks a lot Eddy! I appreciate it buddy ✌️
This was good down to earth guitar lesson.
I appreciate that buddy! Thanks for your support✌️
Thank you, great lesson.
I really do appreciate that John! Thanks man 👍
Sweet lesson! I’m in!
Thank you! I appreciate that 👍
Great stuff again Rusty. Just trying to get my head around that 5th degree stuff and how it's in Dmajor
Hey Lee, that was a lot of theory in this video! I had many other questions about that! Honestly you can build a solo with the major or minor pentatonic there is so much more to put in. Just a little theory is needed! Thanks so much for the comment and support! I appreciate it ✌️
Great lesson, great guitar :)
Thanks bro 😎 I appreciate that 👍
And it's great hammering onto that Major 3rd to kick-start things. You've been super helpful 🤠
Yes that’s such an easy way to sound melodic! Glad you are getting something from the lesson’s! Thanks a lot Lee ✌️
This is going to be a huge help Rusty. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and positivity. You make me excited to try this technique. You're a great teacher. Cheers Bud.
It makes me feel good that you’re excited about learning from the lesson! Happy, jamming, Steve! I appreciate the kind words, bro😎
@@rustysguitar1 I'll be watching your lessons every day Rusty, I love what you do. I can relate
Great lesson Rusty!
The greats play leads to the chords
Congrats on the views on this video!!
Rock on 🤘
Hey Andy, good to hear from you man! Yes our guitar hero’s are so good at this! I still work every day on connecting the chord tones with the scales! Enjoy your Sunday buddy 🙏
Great lesson!!! Keep up the good work. This video filled in many gaps in my understanding. And, btw, your playing is TASTY!
Glad you got something from the lesson! Thanks so much John! Greatly appreciated ✌️
Very tasty. I find it hard to find the notes after each chord change, but keeping it simple will help.
You almost have Look ahead at the changes. So you can start looking at your next set of notes before the chord change happens. Not an easy task!!! try to do it every day with everything that you are playing and will start to become second nature. But I still have to work on this every day myself and always want to get better at it. So you really never arrive but just try to keep getting better each day! Thanks for your support and the comment. Talk to you soon. Enjoy your week👍
A very helpful guitar solo tutorial. I will try this soon. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Nora! I appreciate it ✌️
Great lesson. Your song choices have a “southern rock” feel similar to “Can’t You See.” Enjoyed the lesson. Thank you for sharing.
I love the southern rock style for sure! Glad you liked the lesson! Thanks a lot Frank and have a great Saturday ✌️
The school of Rock salutes you music brother Rusty there
Happy days
That’s awesome! Thanks a lot 👍
Great lesson , I wish you the best on your channel
Thanks Bigdad! I appreciate that! Have a good week ✌️
Your classes are excellent Rusty. Keep it up.
Thank you Jamie 👍
Great lesson. I knew these chords were in D but I would not have thought of using the A and Am pentatonic.
The A major pentatonic for sure. When Using the a minor pentatonic scale the C note is the one that clashes! I’d like to tweak it up to the major third and then play the rest of the way through scale! I appreciate your comments and support! Thank you✌️
Very informative I liked very much, please make more videos like this one , it helps me visualize the hand placement and moves to sound great awesome thanks.
Right on Hank! More to come! Thanks man 👍
Yes good easy learning with you. I love it. I am beginner to intermediat, but could become fully intermediate whatching you. Thank you Rusty
Sounds great Jeff! Learning is exciting and fun! Thanks bro 😎
Thanks for putting it all together.
Thank you 👍
I’ve been noodling for years with only minor pentatonic and I’ve been so bored. This lesson makes me want to play again. Looks like I need to learn the major scale and learn where the notes are on the fretboard. Thanks so much for this lesson
Hey James, just learned that stuff in little sections on the fretboard and then expand from there. Have some fun jamming! Thanks for the comment man✌️
Vow! This is amazing!
I found my long time search for lick improvisation.
Thank you so much Sir. for sharing your knowledge with me.
Thanks a lot! I appreciate your support ✌️
Hello Rusty,
I just stumbled across your channel here and it’s not too easy finding lessons on an intermediate level, most of them are beginners types as I’m sure you’d know. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, nice lesson.
Thanks Thomas! When I’m putting lessons together I’m looking at things that I wanted to learn early on! But really struggled with! The biggest thing is just having confidence and to play up and down the fretboard! Thanks for taking the time to leave to come and I really do appreciate it! Enjoy your weekend👌
@@rustysguitar1 thanks so much and you fo the very same!
Rusty, it is incredible what you teach, I enjoy it very much. Thank you.
