You, Sir, are a GENIUS! What is so wonderful about this song, is that it offers TIME….time to explore between versus…. Explore between WORDS actually. This song and the bpm are an ad-lib guitarist DREAM. When you have such a beautiful melody, chord structure-SIMPLE CHORD STRUCTURE, it allows us guitar players ample time to create beautiful leads, fillers, etc! But Y-O-U my friend are a MASTER of conveying the information. The information that we ALL have in our heads and transferring what is in our head to OUR hand, ultimately, to the fretboard! Thank you-Thank you-Thank you!!

After years of listening to the dead and having a deep appreciation for Jerry’s improv, it was my brother who pointed out that Garcia is an absolute master of this technique as a one key foundation to his soloing!!!

I watch a ton of UA-cam guitar classes from some very excellent instructors but, my man, you are the best! You not only explain what you are doing better than anyone else, you also cover areas of playing that no one else does. You have a gift, thanks for sharing it with us all.

Even by Stich standards, this is an astoundingly good lesson. The only rational explanation for this is that Stich has made a deal with the devil at a crossroads at midnight.

Best explanation of melodic solo technique I’ve ever heard. Great job.
If I can add also, sometimes leaving space (not playing) is just as important as playing.
Just like in life we have positive and negative space (my guitar is positive and the space around it is negative) music only exist as sounds and space between the sounds.

Mr Stitch, great video lesson!!! A great example of this is a video now on UA-cam of Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary concert, at the very end every guest is on stage playing Knocking on Heaven’s Door with Eric Clapton in the background playing exactly what you’re talking about… it’s fantastic!!! The video isn’t the best but still must watch/listen for all that are interested in your lesson!

Great “training”! (I am the caboose on the improv train.) Interestingly, when Joe Pass was asked for the umpteenth time how to become a better improviser, his answer always was “Learn the tunes!” My favorite “melody” improviser is Amos Garrett, with Jerry Garcia (“Me & Bobby McGee”) on the list, too. A lot of great country players do this, especially on ballads. Actually, one guy really good at it is Willie Nelson! Thanks - great lesson!
