    The best diagnosis of degraded main-bearings, front or back, is to simply turn the crank-shaft with your fingers. Any roughness indicates some wear. When to replace the bearings, is a matter of choice. It is better to replace them prematurely than too late, in that the outer bearing ring may start to rotate into the casting, destroying the engine, if not replaced in time, should the bearing seize up.
    I have concluded that they last about 50 hours on four-strokes using 5-10 % nitro and 18 % oil at maximum 10.000 rpm.
    The replacement procedure is quite easy and straight-forward. No special tools needed.

    Thanks! So glad i came across your video. I have been racking my brain around similar symptoms on my engines. No bearing noise that stands out but front leakage, ignored it when it was running good but now having issues. Has to be bearings in my case, I've never considered replacing before but also was not sure what to look for. Motor is 10yrs old has many gallons through it. Looks like my fleet of nitros is getting new bearings this winter. I always thought that the part of the crank that passes between the bearings made the air seal and the front bearing was more for dust. But I can see it contributing now (most my experience is low strung nitro airplane engines). These things rev crazy high to so more rapid bearing ware should be expected. Thanks again appreciate it.

    also crankshaft play slop when pulling back and forth on the engine shaft exsposed when your clutch bell is removed. crank bearing on clutch side usually takes more wear than backside bearing. but then again adams crankshaft bearings cost more than most new nitro engines. your contract clause with mugen is to restricted, bring out rhonda. yes the video was good. the drake knows.

    • @AdamDrake

      Yes, it could be the bearings or low on compression and the piston/sleeve set needs to be resized.

    Also flaming out when on the throttle. When your engine dies for no reason at all and you can't keep it running even after changing the glow plug you have a bad inner crankshaft bearing. The crankshaft is hitting the engine case.

    What’s a general maintenance schedule for these bearings? What kind of service life can you expect to get out of these engine bearings?

    • @AdamDrake
      @AdamDrake  4 роки тому +1

      Depending on the fuel you use, how often you replace the filter, and how you store your engine, it can vary quite a bit. Sometimes the bearings will outlast the engine, but in other cases the bearings will go out first.
