Fantastic video. You should rename it to - how to paint! I love that you give names to what you do, not just demonstrate. Some people think it all just comes naturally. It comes from practice and work. Thank you for sharing your work. It's a pleasure to watch and listen to you.
This was very helpful to see you progress thru to the end. I have trouble often because I don't understand layering and blending as you go. Thx so much!
You are a wonderful instructor. I attended one of your workshops some time ago and painted on poor quality paper. You gave me a sheet of good paper and my painting was so much better. I have used good quality paped ever since and improved for it. You have a lovely, very engaging teaching style.
Loved the video, narrative, transitions that show what is possible with subsequent washes, blending, and highlights. Very helpful to those of us who are new to watercolor. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
I have just started out painting water colour and watched numerous videos on you tube but learnt more in your one video than all of the others Thank you. This will help me tremendously. I am inspired.
That is really useful Peter. This is the first time I've seen an artist actually break down what they do in detail & explain why they do it in order to produce an advanced full featured top level version. Thank you
I DID enjoy that and it DID help me...a LOT!!! Great video. Thank you. I take it that you're not worried about the little white spots at the top of the mountain and in the sky (around the 18:00 mark). One of my big problems is exactly as you said...impatience. I want it to be good and I want it to be good NOW! I must learn to take my time and be patient. Thanks so much for a wonderful video. I'm a subscriber and always enjoy your lessons. David, West Virginia, USA
I'm not worried at all - little white spots happen, and you either stress over them, try to correct them or cover them up, incorporate them into the design of a composition, or just accept them as part of the process, and leave others to interpret them in their own way. I'm not a precision painter. I'm pleased you enjoyed it David, and many thanks for the comment and subscribe.
Magical thanks for sharing your skills, Love the video to level 3, level 4 is a PW original as only you can produce.. Perfect and your videos in North Yorkshire and the lakes are inspirational....fabulous thanks👍
Wonderful!!! You made me see how to create each step along the way and, like magic, you have plain turned into beautiful. I will follow your steps as I grow as a watercolorist. Thanks.
Great video , think I'll just keep painting this scene until I get it looking right. Important to experiment when you are learning I think and not be too precious about your early efforts. thanks Peter 👍
Hi Peter! Thanks so much, loved how you broke down te different stages, clarency! Ivisited Scotland a month ago, lloved the rugged sea and rocks as well as general scenery!❤
That was so inspirational..i feel like the Penney has dropped... I've beed painting for quite a few years....thank you so much Peter for sharing your skills and knowledge with us it has definitely opened up a new way of painting for me... I'm looking forward to the station gallery exhibition..we will vist Friday 24th... kind regards Dave 😊
Peter I love your work you really have the master touch thank you for sharing it I have been trying to go to watercolor from doing pastel and oil for many years not been as easy as I thought you are such an inspiration and I hope it may happen for me and so many others that we can express as freely as you do of course in our own styles I have your book and hope to learn. thank you
Thanks Carol - I'm pleased the videos and book are of some help to you. Good luck in your painting journey! (It's a hard leap from oils to watercolour...)
Great video. I'm a beginner pluss and have a painting I'm going into where I think this video was a good reminder. I seen so many videos and I learned about layers, soft edges and such, but in the moment of heat (action) you easily forget. This time I was thinking of doing a wet in wet background. But after watching this I now wonder if I should only do part of the background like that and some more like the ways you did this. Then again. Sometimes just getting the right amount of pigment/water ratio on the brush is hard enough 😅..anyway thanks for the video
Like your video, but I think you need to mention where the light is coming from. It can make all the difference in the world where your darks and shadows lie. I also like to add a touch of dioxazine purple to my shadow colors for non-foliage shapes. I do how ever add a touch to tree and bush/brush trunks/sticks & stems. What do you think? Bless you, you've given me some new insights. Thank you.

In the first wash dry before you add next color beside it?
Would you mind telling me what brand brushes you use? The work so very well!

Do you wait for the wash on the mountain to dry before painting the sky?
Hi Michele - yes, the mountain needs to be dry before painting the sky, otherwise the two will bleed together and lose their definition.
Siiiick. Seeeeeeeeeeeeekkk
