What an amazing (and selfless) art teacher you are, Mr. Clark! With you on our side, anyone can produce masterpieces with enough practice. Thank you for inspiring me to try my hand at watercolour again (it ended in disaster the last time).
I hate to say disaster because nothing is really a disaster when painting however that is part of the process. If we don’t make mistakes how are we ever gonna get better. we, I learn from our, my mistakes right? Keep painting keep the passion find your inspiration.
Unlike most demonstration and tutorial videos on watercolour painting you give clear explanations of what you are doing; and I love your sense of humour. Top quality.
Just fell upon you by chance, and so pleased I did. Been painting a few years now but still very much a novice as never had a lesson and never improved - “All the gear, but no idea”! Great lesson thanks, and I do love a bit of splatter! I think I’ve found my mentor!😳👍
Welcome Dilys! - and many thanks 😳👍 I've only being doing this for six months so there is lots more to come! - have you seen the other videos? :ua-cam.com/channels/C2uMZ7qWrsCUorYdZbi8OA.html
Love you Paul. You’re funny, talented, and, May I say, not full of yourself. Some artists just take themselves way too seriously. We are, after all, imitating the Great Artist, our Great Creator, and there’s got to be some joy in that.
Super tutorial! Your teaching ability is far beyond some other watercolorists I've watched. Can't wait to make myself a "manky" brush. So simple and pretty with the purple flowers.
Grass, foliage, trees and flowers...I dread trying these....and then wonder why my paintings looked so flat - my heartfelt gratitude to you for sharing your knowledge and techniques....I will be trying out all these tips. Thank you Sir!
I love your tutorials! Concise, to the point and exactly what a struggling beginner and intermediate needs. My grass and rocks looked so childish and I had no idea what to do about it. Thank you!!!
Wonderful instruction. And, I really like how you showed your paintings at the end to let us see how you incorporated those techniques. Thank you Paul! Seems like I am not the only one who said "just discovered" you! Keep up the good work.
I loved it too. I was a technical illustrator, but what I had wanted to do was illustration, especially with watercolor. So now Im older & doing my own thing, so trying my hand at illustration & of all things, I cant imagine how to paint grass! I can do a medical centrifuge! Thank you SO much!!
Thank you! Can't get over all the amazing little things you do to make a painting so multi layered and effective, and for sharing those things with us wannabe artists! I'll be following many of your tutorials and would love information on your vacation art trips. Donna.
You are the best teacher ever!! Funny, smart good looking and funny. Your a joy to watch. I look forward to painting with you on videos! Glad I found you in you tube. 🎨🖌️
I really enjoyed this video. I learned so much about painting grasses. I look forward to giving all of these methods a try. And to watching more of your tutorials.
Wow, seeing those earlier paintings of yours, it really shows how you’ve developed as an artist from “perfect” paintings to loose perfect paintings. Thanks for these tips. You make it look so easy. With practice, maybe I’ll be as good as you one day.
Love all the paintings you had demonstrated to us! Really enjoy your lessons no matter how many times I watch them again and again! You are the best! Thank you so much!
I know nothing about watercolor.. You make it easy to use it. Wonderful.. happy to know your techniques. Congratulations master.. Thanks for teaching the world.. Great to know U.
Love the tutorials Paul, you demystify a lot stuff, thank you. I've had your book for a while too and it's great to see some of the techniques in action through your videos. Keep em coming!
I found your website today and I found it not only informative but found it making me laugh. Your sense of humor is wonderful, and something that is so rare lately. 2020 has had such an effect on so many people around the world, even here where I live in SE Arizona in the United States. You are a wonderful teacher with a great humor. Thanks for sharing your talent. Katie
This is so helpful as usual, Paul. Thank you. Your painting's at the end of the video are wonderful, love the "Footpath" and "The Rose" charming. Now, run along and get those bins out! 😊🎨
"Nothing too difficult" says Paul. The positive attitude from the get-go is fantastic! That being said, grasses and foliage have always been my nemesis in watercolor. Paul, your approach and teaching style are priceless!! Thank you I came across you just last week and I can say without fibbing that you have officially hit the top spot on my favorite watercolor artists chart. Thank you for sharing your talents with us! Keep up the good work! We will be right here to give you a big ol' "attaboy!!" Cheers
Paul, you are brilliant, I love your style. I keep saying to myself that I should get back to painting, after seeing your videos I think I'll have to give it a go again. Thank you for all your tips.
I'm a newbie and so intimidated by all the beautiful work everybody else does. Thanks for making these techniques so accessible to someone like me. So excited to try them out when I'm off work. Thank you!
I needed to send my doctor a Thank you card... So, I painted the #4 painting on a piece of watercolor paper that was 7" x 10". I added a tan coloring at the bottom to take the place of sand. Fold it in-half, write the note on the inside and send it off! Sign and date the back of the card (in the grass), because it "is" a watercolor painting. Thanks for inspiring me to do this!
I went and sat on the bank of a canal with a friend so we could firstly make the most of the lovely sunshine before it rained but mainly to enjoy painting with watercolour. I haven’t done a watercolour since I was a child. I really enjoyed the experience of going out and doing the painting, but having brought it home to do the details I am really struggling. This tutorial, I hope will help with the general greenery and your brick video has been really useful for the canal bridge portion. It’s hard to know how much detail to go into. Thank you for sharing all these great techniques.
This is such a wonderful video with excellent tips. You are so generous to share with us. Would you be able to walk us through one of your complicated paintings from beginning to end? I know that would require a lot of time. I especially love the signs that you incorporate in your paintings. Thank you, Paul. I love your humor. The sheep are great!
I have just discovered you! Loving the videos, especially grasses, trees, rocks and walls. So clear and relaxed. Your book also arrived today so I’m hoping my art is going to improve!! Thank you so much Paul.
I’ve been watching your videos avidly for weeks now. Great tips, and I love the tip on cutting up the bristles on an old brush to use for painting grasses. It makes more spontaneous strokes than a fan brush. 👍🏻
Your videos are helping me a lot with the beautiful ways you teach us. Thank you so much, Maestro!!!! Your watercolor paintings are fantastic!!! Wish to draw one day like you!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much, for your wonderful explanations of things. At 66 yrs. of age, I have dabbled here and there with various crafts., including oil landscapes. I begin a new art class this week and I’m excited to study beginner’s art and hopefully to work into watercolors.
I stumbled across this video totally randomly, it got suggested to me after watching another tutorial. It was 2 days ago, I am an unwashed mess, my children starve and the dog peed herself. Jokes aside, I am so glad I found your channel, Paul! I have learnt so much in the past 2 days and I am glued to the screen and cannot stop watching. You're amazing and I simply love your humor. Thank you! Cannot wait for the next video.
The technique videos you have shared - be it grass or stone texture, I feel your techniques are no less than laboratory experiments of standardizing/developing new method/protocol ... the way you present the techniques in such simple and subtle ways that make me believe that out-of-the-box steps do exist in art world (and probably in other sectors too) ... truly appreciate your teaching and sharing your experiences that you have been gathering for years.
I’m new at painting and watching your video I’m all ready to finish my painting. I’m painting the Montauk lighthouse up on a hill and needed to know how to paint patches of dirt and grass. Thank you. 😊
Thank you so much Mr.Clark, Really you are an amazing selfless Art teacher, even a small child can easily follow you to become an artist. Thank you so much for your dedicated coaching classes.May God bless you more and more 🙏🙏🙏
Yes, amazing and selfless art teacher, describes you the very best and a great sense of humour. This one especially helps me to start my watercolor lesson at school for young people age 10.

I, too, love the Manky brush! I want to make one. What brush did you start with, Paul? Looks like a fairly large round brush, or was it a fantail that had died? I WANT ONE!
You teaching is so helpful, I've just begun my watercolor journey.... hoping to be able to paint something presentable! Thank you for all your time and help!
I've got a couple watercolor brushes that are now going to have their handle ends sharpened for grass/brush techniques. Thanks for the great video and painting tips.

Thank you do much! I do love your projects but I love these "How to ...?" videos even more because I have the feeling I can better more closely learn from them without being overwhelmed. I know I make my painting sound like brain surgery but sometimes I feel rather "afraid" of starting a real project picture (yes, dumb, I know!). 🙄 I bought myself now a sketchbook in which to work through all of your "How to ...?" videos since I find them SO HELPFUL and with such amazing results. How do you sharpen the end of your brush? Are you just using a knife?
Wow, thank you Merium! ... too kind!
A pencil sharpener or knife, both work but round off the end with some sandpaper.
Thank you for sharing! Your work is beautiful & instruction, perfect. I'm just learning watercolor & am amazed by how you control the paint. Fabulous!
