    I love Weavile's coverage capabilities though. I usually run Night Slash, Swords Dance, Ice Punch, and either Brick Break or Revenge. Sometimes I'll trade out one of those moves, usually Swords Dance, for Aerial Ace to cover its weakness to fighting types. I feel like that just gives it so many different types that it can be super effective against. But I'm very biased because it's one of my most favorite Pokémon.

      @taywimzzz 2 роки тому

      Lol I posted this comment 2 years ago when I barely knew anything at all about competitive Pokémon battling. I still don't really do competitive battles ever, but I know a lot more now. So yeah, I would run brick break over revenge now. I'd also probably not use aerial ace cause it's just too low on base power and Weavile doesn't need to be anywhere near any fighting types to begin with lol. Weavile does get Technician as its hidden ability though, right? So in that case it could be pretty good at 90 base power. And I'd never use ice punch when Weavile could use Icicle Crash or Triple Axel now. And yeah, knock off is better for actual competitive battle, but less useful in a playthrough of pretty much any of the games except for maybe BDSP where certain trainers will use items. But at that point that's still so rare that you might as well run night slash anyway, or throat chop in Sw&Sh.
      But yeah, I'm still by no means an expert in competitive play, but 2 years ago I was still very ignorant about how to optimize a Pokémon for battling. At that point I had only ever done standard playthroughs of maybe like half of the main series games. Never had access to online features like trade evos or pvp battles back then either.

      Agreed, feels like they really were trying to tone down dark types/dark moves, but Weavile in particular for some reason got nerfed pretty hard in addition to being outclassed by Chien-Pao even after the latter got it’s attack stat nerfed to match Weaviles. It’s just as physically strong, still faster, slightly bulkier, and it’s a legendary at that. Really hoping Weavile gets some of the moves it lost but this one stings.

      Even if Weavile got the two moves back it needs to be good again, it still will never be chosen so long as Chien-Pao exists as it is faster and inherently hits harder because of its ability. But given that this is a balance thing, Weavile will never be as good as he was in Galar.

      10/10 if you can KO every opposing Pokemon that has a super effective move, as well as every Pokemon that has access to Toxic/Poison Gas/Will O Wisp.
      Bad in every other circumstance.
      I mean you might be able to find a use for Destiny Bond if they have to switch out into something that can deal with you (Destiny Bond whatever comes in, Protect/Destiny Bond troll them until they fuck up somehow)... But that's about it.
      I suppose in a double battle you can also use a Soak + Lightningrod combo to cut Shedinja's weakness down to 1 outside of Discharge... But that's unreliable *at the very best.*

      Focus sash shedinja is useful for disrupting things a bit provided hazards are out of play and your opponent doesn't have toxic/will o wisp/multi hit super effective moves since it generally forces a switch or will at least be able to tank a hit and baton pass a swords dance or the like to your chosen mon.
      Outside of that, though, its role is to be bait so you don't have to take damage on a swap in with a mon that can manage whatever you're up against but would do very poorly if it had to take a free hit first. And that's a role any pokemon on your team can serve depending on the situation.

      King Daniel The Dandy i can understand the Focus Sash, but why the fuck would you run Fake Out, Ice Punch and Night Slash?? Fake Out is piss weak and does no damage whatsoever, Icicle Crash is stronger than Ice Punch, and Knock Off is both more powerful and more useful than Night Slash. It removes items and has almost 100 BP while doing it, while Night Slash sits at a measly 70

    • @KingDanieltheDandy

      Victor Beguito I have a reason for that actually. Other focus sashes wreck that set so i needed somthing to break them without getting hit. Also alot of people run no item to avoid getting knocked off and the crit chance can help me aginst bulky ir set up mons. And ive missed icicle crash to many times to trust it, plus the lucky freeze is always nice :)

      Things are low tier because they're outclassed in every niche they would have or they don't have a niche in the first place. Ampharos doesn't have a good niche and is pretty useless because of it. "Needing a lot of support" basically means it relies on either Baton Pass or the opponent lacking skill, and using something better would give you better results against them as well as actually serious players.

Weavile was my baby in both cases, where I set up heavily around diversity - giving her Aerial Ace, Icicle Crash, Night Slash, and Swords Dance. Held items were banned in the Gyms due to server issues, but at the Elites, giving her a Focus Sash allowed a free Swords Dance that often meant she was the last pokemon I had to use.

    • @SoraTheKeyblader3612
      @SoraTheKeyblader3612 7 років тому

      Respawned - Remy Yanma was never good in high tiers but it is real broken in LC nowadays. Yanmega has seen better days back in gen IV. Even today it isn't entirely useless but it isn't great either. It has two great abilities in Tinted Lens and Speed Boost, with good speed and SpA too, but its typing really holds it back, and so does its lack of high base power moves
      The thing about its abilities is that, although both are great, it'd need to be able to use both at once to real good. That is, obviously, impossible. If Yanmega chooses Tinted Lens, it really helps make up for its poor coverage (Bug/Flying is real bad both offensively and defensively), since it has NO way to hit Steel types without the help of this ability, which doubles the power of not very effective moves
      If it picks Speed Boost, it becomes extremely hard to outspeed after a single turn, which helps it a lot due to it not wanting to get hit at all due to frailty and bad typing; but then it has to deal with its real awful coverage.

    Delibird, Christmas is coming.

    • @Salnax
      @Salnax 7 років тому +21

      I'm going to copy a comment I made on an older video:
      Delibird first showed up in Gen 2, where everyone immediately laughed at it. Its typing was poor, its Defenses were laughable, its offenses were lacking, and even TMs couldn't do much. But once people stopped laughing, they noticed had access to Spikes and Rapid Spin, thanks to an event and breeding respectively. The best strategy it had was starting with Spikes, following up with Toxic, and then using Thief to swipe the enemy's Leftovers. Ice Beam is the best offensive option it has, and it could also use Hidden Power for a Flying STAB move. Rapid Spin was not a bad idea, since Delibird was the only user of Rapid Spin that wasn't hurt by Spikes, but neither set was that great. Besides, plenty of mons could shrug off Ice Beam due to their typing or at least tank it before obliterating Delibird. So Delibird ended up in Underused.
      In Generation 3, Delibird lost the ability to use Spikes, which was a big problem for it. Fortunately, it got the abilities Hustle and Vital Spirit. Of the two, Hustle was more frequently used, since its power boost was sorely needed. Hustle also worked well with the new Aerial Ace, since it ignored the Accuracy loss. Ice Beam was still valuable, and was worth using thanks to its typing and tolerable Special Attack. Quick Attack gave it a way to counter Endeavor users, Focus Punch gave it a decent way of punishing switches, and Rapid Spin was still an option. It might have kept its place in Underused if it could still use Spikes, but was instead demoted to Never Used, though it sometimes saw service in UU.
      Gen 4 was the time when things went from bad to worse for Delibird. Not only did Stealth Rock take half of its HP, it also made it useless as a Rapid Spinner. That effectively means it lost both of its original main uses. The Aerial Ace and Hustle combo was still essential. Ice Beam was replaced with Ice Punch and Ice Shard, so it could invest its EVs and nature entirely into Physical offense. Ice Shard also made Quick Attack obsolete as a priority move, thanks to STAB. Focus Punch (or Brick Break) and Seed Bomb could help it counter the Rock/Steel bulky Water types that would otherwise devastate it. But in all honesty, it was firmly rooted in Never used.
      Generation 5 didn't help much. Even that new Hidden Ability Insomnia was almost the same thing as Vital Spirit.It was still relying on the same mix of Hustle, Aerial Ace, Ice Shard, Ice Punch, and Focus Punch that it relied on last generation. But honestly, nothing was improving. Never Used
      In Generation 6, Delibird finally got some good news, in that it had access to Spikes once again, along with Rapid Spin. It could lead and get off one or two layers of Spikes. It also got its grubby little hands on Destiny Bond, which could be used as an unwelcome surprise. Freeze Dry gave it a way of dealing with Water types, many of which would normally be used to Defog Spikes. Icy Wind could be used to lower speed and better set up Destiny Bond. All of this new stuff was good, but it wasn't enough to reverse the past couple of gens of damage. Besides, Delibird had loads of counters still out there. Faster Pokemon kept it from using more than one layer of Spikes, Taunt users prevented Spikes from being used, priority moves could negate its relatively decent speed, and users of Rapid Spin and Defog made it worthless as a Spikes user. Delibird was stuck in PU.
      So how good was Delibird? It wasn't. Though it had a bit of promise for two generations, thanks to Spikes and Rapid Spin, it has always had a limited movepool, and the metagame changed in ways that hurt Delibird quicker than it could keep up. The sad part is that if it got access to its Generation 6 tricks earlier on, it might have found a niche. But even then, the existence of Stealth Rock crippled it, both in terms of removing a load of HP and making its ability to Rapid Spin Spikes obsolete.

      With 6 awful weaknesses and a horrible 35 base defense it's not that great, sure Lovely kiss is ok but not enough to put her in the high tiers, fast Pokemon like Lucario, Weavile, Infernape, Keldeo and the rest of the fighting beast can destroy Jynx pretty easily, and bulky steel types like Metagross, Jirachi and Magnezone can give it loads of trouble too, Aerodactyl can out speed Jynx and wrecked her with either Rock slide or Stone edge, bulky water types like Slowbro, Suicune, Swampert and Milotic can give Jynx loads of trouble as well, also Jynx do not like facing against Choice scarf Pokemon since the majority of Pokemon (especially sweepers) have a coverage move against most Pokemon with lots of weaknesses like Jynx. I'm by no means saying that Jynx is a bad Pokemon, I do like the fact that it has 115 base sp.attack and a semi decent 95 base speed, but she has an awful typing and it's pretty disappointing, she was decent in Gen 1 with just 3 weaknesses (fire, rock, and bug) but Gen 2 doubled the amount of weaknesses wight ghost now super effective against psychic types along with dark and Steel types because of her ice typing and checks and counters kept growing throughout the years....poor Jynx :(

      Milotic = Powerhouse in every generation so far. Especially in Gen 5 and onward thanks to it's Hidden Ability Competitive (basically Defiant but with Special Attack instead of Attack).
      Flygon = 'meh' competitively. Not "bad" per se but there are way better Dragon, Ground, and even Dragon/Ground types to use. Gen 7 gave it a buff though so that's nice.

      Gen 3: Bulky special wall which can Rest to activate Marvel Scale, combine that with Leftovers & support options and you've got a Pokemon that - while Suicune can do it's job better (which was true for just about every bulky water type) - it's still able to hold it's own very well among the best water types.
      Gen 4: Same as Gen 3, but now with Aqua Ring & the ability to self inflict status in singles (inbetween Flame Orb & Rest you have Marvel Scale constantly active. Rest, Sleep Talk, Ice Beam, & Surf is once again standard).
      Gen 5: Competitive as a Hidden Ability and Scald, need I say more?
      Gen 6: Same as Gen 5, but with Intimidate everywhere (and thus Competitive becomes even more useful).
      No, no I am not joking. Milotic was the designed to be the graceful counterpart to Gyarados and it succeeds in and out of combat from Gen 3 onwards (obviously much stronger in later gens than in earlier gens).

    • @quandaledingle968
      @quandaledingle968 7 років тому +3

      Jaer Nihiltheus
      Notice how you refer to milotic as a ‘Powerhouse’ in your original post.
      Milotic is mediocre at best. It sees no competitive play whatsoever.
      Marvel scale is utterly useless when you’re poisoned which will be most of the time if you’re status’d. If marvel scale is there to lessen the damage taken then what’s the point when you’re taking damage over time with toxic?
      All the sets you mentioned before aside from the bulky set are literal troll sets, like come on flame orb milotic? Really?
      The compeitive set is just bad. Milotic’s physical defense isn’t good and you’ll rarely have the chance to gain the boosts from competitive, not to mention that you’ll be investing your EV’s in speed and special attack if you want it to do any damage at all.
      Overall milotic has been a very mediocre pokemon. Like you mentioned bulky water types fulfill its role much better. Milotic is just really useless if your opponent has anything from a calm mind celfable to a defensive tangrowth. I know the truth hurts but milotic just isn’t that good.

      lol Plusle and Minun wish they were mediocre. Mediocre is too good for them. They're downright useless. They're SO useless, they make Pachirisu look good. And that is saying a lot because Pachirisu is utter shit
      Same goes for Emolga and Dedenne. Togedemaru is likely the least bad of the bunch, since it has an actually nice typing, a kinda cool signature move and it walls non-HP Ground Tapu Koko, even preventing it from Volt Switching due to Lightning Rod. It is still heavily outclassed though.
      Azumarill is not a Pikaclone, and Mimikyu isn't either (although it really tries) but if we are to count these two, then they are the best Pikaclones by leaps and bounds. Both have excellent typings, broken abilities, and as far as movepools go Azumarill is very well off while Mimikyu could use a better Ghost STAB than Shadow Claw, but is otherwise serviceable too.

      Tyler Vincent it isn't the gen 2 Pikaclone. It isn't Electric type and doesn't have the electric sacs all Pikaclones have. The gen 2 Pikaclone is, weirdly, Pikachu's own pre-evolution Pichu. Which, needless to say, is Pikachu made worse. Very sad because Pikachu is already downright awful. But Pichu is cuter, at least.

      Stormpike Lumi Fun fact, a Pachirisu won VGC World Championships in 2014. Not saying you're generally wrong, but it's a neat achievement. Togedemaru also had a semi-popular niche in VGC '17 ^^

    Weavile in Gen 9 was **unfortunately** outclassed by a even better Dark/Ice type, Chien Pao, which is faster and has a better ability, Sword of Ruin.
    Weavile also lost Knock off and Triple Axel in the gen, making Ice Spinner and the pathetic Night Slash it's best STAB options.
    (As someone who loves Weavile, Gamefreak really did butchered this pokemon)

    Hoping the next update will buff Weavile as its movepool nerf for especially its dark STAB and being outclassed by Chien-Pao even after the latter got it’s attack nerfed is silly. It baffles me why they thought both these routes were a good idea.
