He's was more a plain douchebag, really, since his team was far from "competitive" if you think about it. In fact, the funny thing is that Ash technically used a more competitive team than Paul during D/P which is incredibly ironic.

@@jacobhowell406 Well, paul does prove ash wrong at their match at the lake. Ash did his best effort, even got a emotional mid-battle evolution from his Chimchar and the Blaze ability triggerred... and still lost. Just being bffs clearly wasnt enough. Ash HAD to amp his game. Hell, Sinnoh is the region where he develops more strategies: Countershield, Ice Aqua Jet, full roster for the league, etc. Ash kept to his ideals AND implemented some of his rival philosophy, and it was great.
Sebastián Chávez Um no, Blaze was never activated in their battle at Lake Acuity, Reggie clearly says that it was just Monferno’s determination to win(even though it lost)
Man, Infernape was really one of those pokemon that received something similar to the Tauros treatment. Amazing in the gen it was introduced in, but sadly started to fall off after the power creep of the following generations. The difference is that at least he's still viable in UU, while Tauros is nowhere to be found.
GF has not been kind to Tauros with the generations... Like even though it has an amazing HA in Sheer Force it can't actually use it without Gen 1 VC transfer or special Dream World Tauros from gen 5 with Rock Climb Otherwise the best you can do is Secret Power import from ORAS.... Of course even getting that wouldn't be enough to redeem the guy so yeah...
@@Dragrath1 Being a male only pokemon with no prevolutions, alternate evoultions, or female counterparts means Tauros only has half the moveset it could have.
ShadowtitanX yeah Infernape is still amazing main reason it’s UU is majority of OU have stat totals of 600 for real only like 12 out of 38 Pokemon in OU aren’t mega or legendary
@@sinnohperson8813 First, the best comparison would be Meganium, since that was one of the Starter Pokémon in the game. Second, Meganium is trash too. Gen 2 was not the time for Grass Pokémon.

Considering that Chimchar was one of 5 Fire evolution lines available in Diamond and Pearl before national dex. You really didnt have much of a choice for fire types besides that one
Actually that is Platinum in Diamond and Pearl it was actually one of only TWO fire type lines available the Other Being Ponyta.... AbdallahSmash026#1Fan the problem is more of the fact that a generation should have a balanced amount of types available regardless of difficulty, like how hoenn had so many water types but didn’t have only 2 or 3 grass types. The variety of types is what matters and without that the game can feel dull and empty to most people
The Gen 4 segment is longer than Typlosion's entire video and Typlosion is two gens earlier. Hoo boy. It's also slightly longer than Kangaskhan, a Gen 1 pokemon
I love how versitile the mon is. It's amazing choiced scarf, banded, specs, life orb, z moves, expert belt. It can be used for so much, really like it and no wonder it was so good throughout four different generations now
@@robertharris6092 i think they are just waiting for Sinnoh remakes to give It and the other 4th gen starters a mega , they probably don't care if it is going to be just a worse mega blaziken
It's really not that good nowadays with how much harder hitting and faster the meta has become. Mega-Mence being everywhere makes Infernape borderline impossible to use now.
I personally think Infernape needs 2 Megas, 1 for Physical Attackers, the other for Special Attacking just like Charizard. Is it wrong to think of my Special Attacker Infernape as a saiyan firing powerful Kamehamehas when Sunny Day is in effect?
Infernape is my favorite Pokemon hands down I love his design and his moveset and playstyle. Really want a mega evolution I could definitely see a Sun wu Kong Infernape complete with a staff

Azumarill - certainly wasn't a Pokegod, but once it got its combination, it was terryfying 36. Magneton/Magnezone - pretty good, especially after evolving 37. Sneasel/Weavile - Sneasel was pretty bad, but Weavile was pretty good 38. Poliwrath - not great 39. Espeon - hard to say, potentially one of the strongest non-uber Pokemon 40. Umbreon - pretty decent 41. Ampharos - wasn't that good 42. Cloyster - pretty damn good 43. Houndoom - a little underwhelming 44. Togetic/Togekiss - Togetic f**king sucked, but Togekiss was pretty damn good 45. Pikachu - pretty bad 46. Raichu - pretty bad 47. Breloom - pretty amazing, to be honest 48. Garchomp - in a word, amazing 49. Gardevoir - up and down 50. Gligar/Gliscor - Gligar wasn't great, but Gliscor was awesome 51. Swampert - good 63. Blaziken - probably best starter of all time... for now 64. Wobbuffet - hard to say 65. Sceptile - pretty below average 66. Clefable - dramatically shifting its whole life, nowadays strong placement 67. Tentacruel - OK, for a while 68. Jumpluff - honestly not very good, but better than you might expect 69. Exeggutor - steepest decline of all covered Pokemon 70. Mewtwo - you're kidding, right? 71. Mew - really good 72. Lucario - really strong 73. Kangaskhan - OK 74. Flygon - never face of the tier, but always important and defining 75. Milotic - proud representative of its kind 76. Dugtrio - once it gain Arena Trap, it become the force 77. Suicune - as good as it is regal 78. Raikou - pretty good 79. Entei - not that good 80. Marowak - had a bone or two to pick 81. Ninetales - not very good at all 82. Gallade - pretty decent 83. Tangela/Tangrowth - Tangela was among the most forgettable Pokemon, but once it evolved, it become the damn important pick 84. Electabuzz/Electivire - for the most part, quite bad 85. Magmar/Magmortar - not good, like, ever 86. Misdreavus/Mismagius - OK 87. Pidgeot - bland, until mega made it viable 88. Persian - sucked after first generation 89. Roselia/Roserade - pre-evo wasn't great, Roserade was 90. Weezing - always decent, at least in the lower tiers 91. Ledian - one of the worst Pokemon of all time 92. Muk - pretty alright 93. Delibird - one of the worst competitive Pokemon in history 94. Piloswine/Mamoswine - Piloswine was underrated, but since it evolved, it become the wrecking ball 95. Froslass - definition of a specialised Pokemon 96. Beedrill - until it got mega, one of the worst Pokemon, but after, one of the most important in UU 97. Celebi - great, great Pokemon 98. Aggron - pretty much on the below average side 99. Lugia - every bit as good and some as in other media 100. Infernape - overall, pretty good
@@Sombres The problem with Alolan formes is it doesn't help the base Pokemon out in the first place. Really it got stat screwed hard which is telling in that part of what made A-Ninetales as effective as it was was moving some of the unused attack to speed. It has always bothered me that regular Ninetales counterpart Arcanine gets an extra 50 BST total not to mention how it got screwed over in the special split... Plus I noticed its old dex entries mention it placing curses which only ghost types can do so it probably should have been made part ghost but alas Curse wasn't made until gen 2....
@@puteradarmasulaimanmarwan702 I'm pissed. I should've bought DQ11:E! This was my ace Pokemon. My first Pokemon was an accidental Shiny Chimchar(Adamant).
Did some calculation, FSG starts covering gen 5 at 12:47. Video ends at 20:57, so that means 767 seconds / 1257 seconds * 100% = approx. 61.0% time spent. That was quite spot on!
That battle is probably one of the most satisfying battles in the entire anime, and one of my favorite moments overall. It felt so satisfying to see that Infernape that Paul abused and called weak as a Chimchar knock him down at the Pokémon League of all places
While Charizard is my favorite fire starter Ash owns because reasons, Infernape always had the best character story as it went through the whole season.
Just want to add that I won a regional in VGC16 with Infernape. The team also had a Cottonee. Infernape also got top 8 at Worlds in 16 on Justin Carris' team.
Ahh...False Swipe Gaming. One of the nowadays very few UA-camrs out there who put out consistent content. Cheers, I´ve liked every video of yours so far, and won´t stop!
Not going to lie, really disappointed you didn't mention Scarf Infernape's rise during late SM as a check to both Volcarona and Magearna, as well as just spamming through offensive teams in general thanks to how useful its Fire STAB was. Also Endeavor Infernape's niche during the HO meta back in XY.
people realized that scarf greninja was just a better revenge killer. not against magearna but still beat common sweepers like afprementioned volcarona, gyarados, zard x, lando
pkfire Magearna was a top tier threat who straight up 6-0d bulky offense at +2 speed without a mon like Nape that could outspeed and revenge kill. Not only that but Nape could beat the same mons Gren could including Scarf Gren with Mach and could switch in on Zard Y while it was relevant. It’s 100% worth a mention. Infernape has always been a mon that could never break through the power creep but managed to find uses through its versatility that made it meaningful.
@@Quickbobhero agreed, however nape did definitely lose its niche in ou but is undoubtedly a monster in uu. magearna DOES have both offensive and defensive checks and counters depending on its move, so using scarf nape in ou might not be a good idea. you got scarf chomp, zard x, mega mawile, and on the defensive side u have celesteela for gear lacking tbolt, tangrowth for gear lacking beam/ used fleur, ferrothorn and heatran which take focus blasts, chansey, so on and so forth.
I've watched all of these and this is made the best yet. You put so much detail into these you and your team's effort really shows. Keep up these awesome vids and thanks for doing my favorite Pokemon.

Infernape is my fav, I use a Mixape in my showndown team, named Goku, but kinda embarrassed by how it gets outshined by some other members like Rip&Tear the mega Sharpedo & Totallynotanalien the Clefable. Hardly gets chances to sweep, easily gets countered ToT This video does a great job explaining why and explaining the competitive history of my fav pokemon, great job dude!
Mike Warper Oh god I hated Grotel. Lived Turtwig and Torterra, but Grotle... With Grotle I was even considering just evolving Torterra and then replacing it. But then I got Torterra. And my god I LOVED it!
Honestly, this video just reminded me even more of how much I miss Gen 4. Before hyper ridiculous power creep and broken alternate abilities and broken items, before legendaries and mythics became event or wormhole fodder with no special feel to them, back when multiple unique Pokémon had multiple entertaining options because the balance was fair enough to at least experiment with certain sets...
Charlie. Gen. 4 - Gen. 5 were the golden eras for Pokemon IMO. Even though Gen. 1 - 3 were the start and are quite alright ( except Gen. 1 because of an broken new ) and Gen. 6 - 8 were OK at there shot into 3D, Gen. 4 - Gen. 5 was when they put alot of effort into the quality and effort into the series and I still go back to them anyday.
@@jaretco6423 gen 5 was great, dont get me wrong The only real issue i have with it is the insane amount of power creep. If it didnt bring quite as many OP new things, it would be right up there with gen 3, my favourite gen of pokemon
Charles. Fair enough. But I'm not that much of an competitor. So I really don't care about that. Nor it isn't really an issue. It's just an personal taste of opinion. And besides, Gen. 5 didn't have that much O.P. new things. And even if they're were, it ain't that O.P. compared to say Mega Evolution or Z-Moves that breaks the battle system from being balanced. I just thought Gen. 5 balanced the game enough.
@@jaretco6423 most megas were awesome, but I agree Z-moves weren't exactly the best idea Mega evolution brought new life into pokemon like mawile and sableye, and if gamefreak restricted megas to weak pokemon, which was the original purpose, they would have been damn near perfect But yeah, I do play competitive, so things like power creep bother me a bit more than your average player
Yes! So glad that my most favourite Pokemon of all time is doing well competitively. Maybe in the future, you guys should do their viability in BDSP OU and VGC. Like why Scizor was number 1 in BDSP OU. I also love your channel! Thanks for always giving us viewers such awesome content! 😁
That’s yet another Pokémon on this show that has fallen off the map, not because it’s bad or anything, but because of stupidly insane Power Creep. OU is Goddamned mess in Gen 7.
IMO OU is practically Uber 1 and the tiers lower are their tiers below it, there's so many Pokemon with 95+ average stats, that you could just make an SS tier now after S (OU), hehe.
Man I loved using a 6v6 Setup Lead Infernape. Stealth Rock Fake Out Overheat Close Combat Naive Nature with 252/6/252 in Att/SpAtt/Speed was great. In ORAS it was the first competitive pokemon I breed.
Before speed boost: infernape is the best fire/fighting starter, blowing the doors off of emboar and outclassing blaziken When blaziken got speed boost and mega: now blaziken greatly outclasses infernape, is not only the best fire fighting starter but is the best starter period.
Since Empoloen and Torterra have terrible speed, Infernape can use close combat to wreck Empoloen and Fire Blast to wreck Torterra despite both of them having a type advantage on Infernape, but focus sash is the only way to save their ass.
I like it: we weren't sick of its typing yet; is literally named goku; good move pool; lots of utility. got my approval. ( It's one of my 2 go to Sinnoh Choices )
While Infernape was a victim of power creep, it can still do its job decently. I use it with Flare Blitz, Close Combat, U-turn and a coverage move alongside Choice scarf, and it is ok. When I was a kid, I gave it a KingRock in my 1st Pokemon Pearl playthrough. Speeking of KingRock: How good was Regirock ACTUALLY? No one can stop the Rock!
Infernape is still one of my favorite Gen 4 Pokemon, I just think it's pretty badass and actually good (not as good nowadays but still it can't really be called bad).
So basically, Infernape's metagame prowess was reflective of its anime prowess; in Gen IV, it was the star Pokémon in the anime, picking up wins left and right under Ash's ownership, with the pinnacle being beating half of Paul's team in the League, but come Gen V, it was cast aside into the shadows never to be seen again
Also greninja was barely visible at first and also was an ex machina that felt worse then infernape's ex machinas. At least i fernape's ability makes sense for that
I use an Infernape in competitive Black & White OU as a lead in a balanced Spikes team and its amazing! Iron Fist Infernape is in my opinion one of the best Quiver Dance Volcarona COUNTERS (Not checks) in the game! It has a lot of potential! Give it a try. Thanks for the great video, Infernape is one of my favorite pokemon so it's great to hear that Infernape was, just like you said "Pretty good" (:
I tried it in a tournament and it was one of the most deadweight Pokémon I’ve ever seen. It literally just didn’t do anything against half the teams i faced, and the other half made it so infernape could never get onto the field safely making me play 5 Pokémon against 6
Would it be possible to include draft league formats in videos, at least for the most recent gen (7)? I feel like it could be nice especially with some of the "weaker" pokemon to showcase ways they can still be good, rather than just relegating them to PU or whatever in some cases
I actually used Piplup for my first playthrough of Platinum. Infernape was the last one I picked, iirc. I honestly think that Infernape will soar to the top again with a new mega evolution (unless they REALLY botch it like with Sceptile)
This makes me reminisce on how nasty Infernape was as a lead in gen 4! With a focus sash on he could not only 1v1 other focus sash users but also set up rocks and hit both sides with overheat and close combat! Absolutely beast
I'm biased because it was my first starter but Infernape is one of my favourites for sure. Which is why it hurt and still hurts to see it being neglected and then left behind entirely. And calling the Sinnoh remakes "faithful" was just an excuse to give the Sinnoh starters nothing new. Wasn't it GF?
Sinnoh remakes were made by another company, but I agree that Sinnoh starters were criminally neglected, and being fire monkey my favorite pokemon I'm very angry, specially when compared with Blaziken
Then in next gen blaziken got mega but still even after 4 gens later infernape didn't got any buff. It didn't even get belly drum even though it's an ape. Gamefreak sure does hate infernape or maybe they hate whole gen 4 starters
Not at all. Any draining move, including Drain Punch, is 100% useless on a pokemon that doesn't have good bulk to properly make the hp drain matter (hence why pokemon like Conkeldurr run it). Infernape being a frail sweeper makes Drain Punch completely useless on it since it gets OHKOd by literally any meta-mon's Earthquake...which is essentially every single physical attacking meta-mon since Earthquake is that ubiquitous. You don't see Sceptile or Lilligant running Giga Drain because they lack the bulk to make use of the hp gain and Infernape follows the exact same issue.
I honestly hope in the future for Competitive Infernape, it at least makes its way back up in OU! While UU isn't that bad I wouldn't consider it too good either! Maybe with a Mega it can combine the effects of most items it has into it's stats and who knows maybe toss Infernape a couple of bones! If I were to choose any pokemon of any tier to use, it'd be Infernape, I would like to find some kind of use for it!
Yeah it's a no brainier most would pick chimchar, because unless you really like ponyta there were no other fire type alternatives in Diamond and pearl. And if you wanted a fire type on your team and didn't want to trade, those were your only two choices.
@@sinnohperson8813 because some people where mad that blaziken is the worst of the three fire fighting type 1Emboar is a slow whit high HP and can hit like a truck 2 Infernape has a lot of coverage moves and also has iron fist And blaziken could hit harder than Infernape but IT was slower which IT counted a lot but i admit Speed boost was to powerful along a Bulk up and a big ass mega IT was to much POWER

Of course even getting that wouldn't be enough to redeem the guy so yeah...
not similar at all. infernapes been consistently good and is one of the best mons in gen 6 and 7 uu

True. But, at least Infernape does stay strong in UU compared to Tauros, who is just an outdated relic from Gen 1.
ShadowtitanX yeah Infernape is still amazing main reason it’s UU is majority of OU have stat totals of 600 for real only like 12 out of 38 Pokemon in OU aren’t mega or legendary
Players: Why the hell is Infernape so good?!
Infernape: “There are literally only 5 fire Pokémon in my generation.... and I was two of them.”
Hmmm is that the reason it's uu even in gen7. That's a just a excuse for hating on infernape

Considering that Chimchar was one of 5 Fire evolution lines available in Diamond and Pearl before national dex. You really didnt have much of a choice for fire types besides that one
I still need to play D/P. I almost never run fire types, so it would be a great set for me.
Actually that is Platinum in Diamond and Pearl it was actually one of only TWO fire type lines available the Other Being Ponyta.... Infernape can still mop the floor with the speedy chicken. Game Freak really want people to love that fugly bird, don't they ?
Wonder how the AuraGuadrian is gonna respond to this...?

@Zack Grey It's basically an Ash-Gren wanabe, and I like it
@Zack Grey I mean... you said op and you delivered
I knew Gen 4 infernape was tremendous, but OH MY GOD THAT IS A TREMENDOUS MOVEPOOL
Since Empoloen and Torterra have terrible speed, Infernape can use close combat to wreck Empoloen and Fire Blast to wreck Torterra despite both of them having a type advantage on Infernape, but focus sash is the only way to save their ass.
Unless, of course, you run fake out, which renders Focus Sash null and void
@@AkariHiZoru I dont think empoleon and torterra get fake out

My boi Infernape! I hope one day it can get that mega that it deserves so much to see it shine once again!
I hope he gets a mega evolution too one day cause he's my favorite starter and pokemon cause I just love everything about him and he is a beast! 🔥🙌🏼
I like it:
we weren't sick of its typing yet; is literally named goku; good move pool; lots of utility. got my approval.
( It's one of my 2 go to Sinnoh Choices )
Is the other Empoleon? :3
0:54 Infernape: What did it do? Did it do things?? Lets find out!
2:17-2:22
Arcanine says hi and hold my root beer. It was the first fire type to go by the 'mixed attacker" moniker. Have you seen its stats?
While Infernape was a victim of power creep, it can still do its job decently. I use it with Flare Blitz, Close Combat, U-turn and a coverage move alongside
Choice scarf, and it is ok.
When I was a kid, I gave it a KingRock in my 1st Pokemon Pearl playthrough.
Speeking of KingRock: How good was Regirock ACTUALLY? No one can stop the Rock!
@Ice Stop trying to stop the rock.
Why does everyone forget about me?

Don't worry monferno, you're still awesome
Ah the days of MixApe, where has the time gone...
Infernape is still one of my favorite Gen 4 Pokemon, I just think it's pretty badass and actually good (not as good nowadays but still it can't really be called bad).
Aaron Hernandez Better than Emboar by miles and Non-Speed Boost Blaziken
So basically, Infernape's metagame prowess was reflective of its anime prowess; in Gen IV, it was the star Pokémon in the anime, picking up wins left and right under Ash's ownership, with the pinnacle being beating half of Paul's team in the League, but come Gen V, it was cast aside into the shadows never to be seen again
(Currently hyping over the fact my all time favorite finally got an episode. #WorthTheWait)
Best Pokemon Ash ever had.
*_CHANGE MY MIND_*
Greninja
@@Freeeeeeeee27
Infernape has a better win loss record.
Can't deny. Infernape had more character and devolopment than all of Ash's other Pokemon.
Also greninja was barely visible at first and also was an ex machina that felt worse then infernape's ex machinas. At least i fernape's ability makes sense for that
Ash Greninja was based off Infernape's blaze and when we get those sinnoh remakes I'm pretty sure he'll return
Now I'm really curious about Hariyama, what with it being on the team that beat the one Infernape was on during Sinnoh VGC.
I would love to see a video about how good items were. How did leftovers or choice scarf or life orb change the metagame? How good were they actually?
Infernape is the best Fire/Fighting starter without Mega Evolution: It has the highest BST, the best stat spread, and I believe the widest move pool.
I feel like it could be nice especially with some of the "weaker" pokemon to showcase ways they can still be good, rather than just relegating them to PU or whatever in some cases
good idea
Infernape was my favorite pokemon and I leveled him up before my other pokemon
That's amazing!
How GOOD was Ho-oh ACTUALLY!? Also, Mega Infernape for Gen8 anyone!?
I won’t say it got a mega, cause it didn’t
This comment did not age well
Another awesome video! I love how half the video is about it in its debut generation lol.
Your videos are a real breath of fresh air
I actually used Piplup for my first playthrough of Platinum. Infernape was the last one I picked, iirc.
I honestly think that Infernape will soar to the top again with a new mega evolution (unless they REALLY botch it like with Sceptile)
You missed out Jamie Boyt winning the liverpool regional with infernape in 2016
Noticed how it didn’t sink to RU, but still found, (the same roles because they’re that effective), over and over again in UU 🔥
Gen 4
Blaziken: who are you
Infernape: I'm you but better
Gen 5
Infernape: who are you
Blaziken: I'm you but better
Then in next gen blaziken got mega but still even after 4 gens later infernape didn't got any buff. It didn't even get belly drum even though it's an ape. Gamefreak sure does hate infernape or maybe they hate whole gen 4 starters
Game freak didnt give infernape drain punch because they know it would be broken on it
Close combat is better tho
@@andremii5392 not if your trying to break down a wall.
@@robertharris6092 yeah it is actually due to higher bp. drain punch would only be useful on support or bulk up builds
Infernape being broken with Drain Punch? HAHAHAHAHA that's a good one.
Other channels can't even hold a torch to this one when it comes to Pokemon content well done 😎😎
How good was Donkey Kong actually??
Yeah it's a no brainier most would pick chimchar, because unless you really like ponyta there were no other fire type alternatives in Diamond and pearl. And if you wanted a fire type on your team and didn't want to trade, those were your only two choices.
+ in gen 4 infernape was the only no legendary top tier in OU the others are under the UU tier
Give him knock off . He then won't even need a mega
@ShadowAce Infinity why outrage?
@ShadowAce Infinity yeah but If IT gets outrage IT would be too powerfulland also primape have IT because IT needed a buff
@@angelicacimpoesu4924 if that is the case why did blaziken get speed boost
@@sinnohperson8813 because some people where mad that blaziken is the worst of the three fire fighting type
1Emboar is a slow whit high HP and can hit like a truck
2 Infernape has a lot of coverage moves and also has iron fist
And blaziken could hit harder than Infernape but IT was slower which IT counted a lot but i admit Speed boost was to powerful along a Bulk up and a big ass mega IT was to much POWER
@@angelicacimpoesu4924 iron fist is lame without drain punch its just 1.2x
About damn time you covered infernape, it took me changing my profile pic for you to actually do it.
0:47 That makes sense as there were only two fire type lines in Gen 4, Chimchar was the only real choice at the time.
