    quick correction, because some folks in imperial countries might do the wrong thing when it comes to camera mounting -- m3 may be the mounting method in a lot of countries, however, if you are in North America, use 1/4 screws. hex tooling is 16/3 i believe but use whatever imperial tooling that feels right within reason.

    Your videos on this topic have prompted me to get my own EOS-M I already have a couple of C-Mount lenses, and one of your other videos helped me to understand them better. Up til now, I've been kicking myself, wanting to get an EF mount adapter for them so that I could use them with the speedbooster. 🤦‍♂ Now I understand why that wouldn't work, and why such adapters don't exist. Sadly there goes my dreams of a cheap? f/0.9-ish Cine-lens 🤪🤪 That said, what's your view on cheap, 4k/5k, action cameras modded with M12-C adapter for use with C-mount lenses as the core of a cinema rig, and who do you think would be best served by such a rig? Cheers mate! All the best for 2023 to you and yours.

    I am so glad that I found your channel! I noticed that your settings are ISO100 and manual exposure. I don't know why my EOS-M can't function well under these settings. The preview screen turns dark and the video quality is very poor - the colour and lighting aren't right. The quality did not improve when I used ISO auto either. Am I missing something?

    • @ZeekEOSZ
      @ZeekEOSZ  3 роки тому +1

      Check powersave option to remove dark screen limit. In low light you'll need a fast lens, avoid kit lens in low light situations. I like manual lenses to be honest.

  • @TangoKyiv
    @TangoKyiv 3 роки тому +1

    As I understand, native resolution of this monitor is 1920x1080 but HDMI output of Eos M gives much lower resolution. At least I mentioned this with capture stick and smartphone. It's worth to replace my phone with this kind of monitor or better invest this money in lens or other stuff?
    And another question - I remember you told that M2 works better with external monitor. What exactly is better?

    • @ZeekEOSZ
      @ZeekEOSZ  3 роки тому +1

      I'd go with lens, a monitor isn't essential, but I like to record myself for lens testing in the Eos m, that's when it comes in handy. But in general, not highly necessary.

    Zeek, great video again! I noticed right at 22:21 you zoom and it zooms to the lower right corner of the frame. I noticed this on my EOSM too and it happens when in 3x crop mode and some other various modes. This basically kills your ability to do a zoom effect with your lens. Any idea how to get it to zoom into the center of the lens?

    • @ZeekEOSZ
      @ZeekEOSZ  3 роки тому +3

      There is a 2.5K RAW 1:1 Centered Mode that fixes it, otherwise, the developer will have to fix that. I don't normally zoom when im recording unless its a parfocal lens.

    I wish we could see a better a example of continuous Raw. Most tutorials I see on these builds say it’s possible however they aren’t doing proper examples because their cutting off the camera after 90 seconds at best to move on to a different topic. I’ve seen absolutely no examples of hour long recordings . Though I want to trust what these forums are telling me I’m just not getting the information I need to make an informed decision

      I used to have a video up avoid ML RAW best SD Cards. I went through recording 1 hour and beyond. With ML, you can cut the 30 minute limit in the menu and then record 1 hour and beyond. You will need a 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO card and a portable Powerbank with the DR-E12 Dummy Adapter and a USB C Out cable. I have no need to shoot that long, but it's possible and has been done.

    Hi Zeek. Thanks a lot for the detailed and helpful tutorials ! You really mastered ML RAW and EOS M. Gorgeous colors and grading !
    Was surprised to see Viltrox speed booster work with Canon 10-18mm f4-5.6 in manual mode. Tried this combination a year and half ago and it didn't work. Lens was not recognized by the camera. Maybe my Viltrox was defective. Thinking about buying another one.
    Also am curious how you manage the framing in 2.8K crop mode, especially when Canon EOS M is on a gimbal. How do you realize what's in the frame and what not ? Preview on LCD screen is somehow OK before hitting record button, but unusable during crop mode recording. Prefer to use Kill Global Draw option in order to get longer recording times.
    Was thinking about a workaround to the framing problem. With other advancements in ML for EOS M, this is the only problem that bothers me when shooting 2.5K and 2.8K crop modes. And those are by far my favorite ones because of the extra resolution and lack of moire and aliasing. There is a smartphone application called Magic Viewfinder that gives you various angles of view equivalent to FF and other cameras + different crop factors on your smartphone. Put the smartphone on top of EOS M with a simple holder and set on Magic Viewfinder the same equivalent focal length as it is on EOS M. Once recording starts, use my smartphone as a second camera/screen that shows me the framing. There is some parallax effect, when shooting close-ups and phone has to be precisely aligned but it is much better than just looking at EOS M 5x crop. So far, it seems to be working especially for longer takes with bigger camera movements.

    • @ZeekEOSZ
      @ZeekEOSZ  3 роки тому

      No problem at all 😎👍
      The Viltrox works fine when the camera AF and lens AF are switched to manual.
      I pretty much focus and expose with the normal cropped live view, then a click framing just to check everything is okay in frame, I then record with correct grey frame as I move with the subject. Or if I'm confident in what I'm recording then I leave it in the normal live view. I'm so used to it.

      That lens would go well with the Eos m on a tripod. 2.5K and 2.8K Raw would be the best quality, and they have sound a 2.96-3.2x Crop Factor for extra reach. For 2.5K, you can enable 16:9 in the Ratio section and that will trigger 16:9 2.1K Continuous Raw.

    duders? $60 eos m? you are blessed. you should try drones. magic lantern community is exhausting! updates backups oh my! i almost always forget to back up a version before i reformat the card. that's the first step toward eos m magic lantern enlightenment….anyway…back to drones…i almost shit my britches flying low over marshes. it is a rush. start out with a mavic mini (refurbrished or used) and get a range extender (like i need to do) and you will be set …just with upscaling alone, I don't see too much dynamic range difference with the right tweaks. initially mavic mini 2 footage looked like garbage with too much linear lines, they fixed some of it and it looks pretty pristine, but if you basically want a throw away drone that is actually pretty damn resilient and that you can take on epic missions, just get the original. you mainly need range extender to fly confidently between barriers, not to necessarily get max range unless you are into that thing and you are permitted. i don't think the cost benefits of 4k output from camera are negligibly that different to 2.7k upscaled to 4k with the right exposure. especially, since you are capturing dynamic range movement you are dealing with totally different aspects of the temporal ideation of movements. pixels shifting under parallax are very strange and dynamically altered. 2.7k upscaled to 4k always looks like normal 4k under the right exposure.

      For 1080 mode or 5k frtp mode you don't have to. Definetly gonna try with other lenses in the future but for now I shall try to make do with what I have. BTW, does the speedboster change the type of lenses you can use? This is something I'm having trouble with, because if it does I would first buy the speedbooster and then look what my lense options are

      You can get speedboosters in different mounts e.g. Canon. EF, Canon FD & M42 Speedbooster to EOS M.
      I prefer Canon EF Speedboosters to use EF Mount Lenses.

      Hello, check the Expo Override setting on the Exposure tab on Magic Lantern. I used to have this noise issue. Expo Override was on by some reason. I turned it off and noise was reduced significantly in my case. Maybe it is a configuration worth checking. Hope it helps.

    Hi Zeek, I am having a lot of problems with the ML Build you use. If I go higher than 1080p ML goes crazy. Live preview is all purple lines. Even the ML menu is laggy and the camera gets warm when I am not recording. Even my sd card gets warm I tried every combination of settings but no luck. The footage I get is smashed vertically and only purple and white. I am using the same SD Card as you only 64 gb though.

      The problem is the distortion on the screen when I hold the eos m horizontally everything is pulled up as if anamorphic... When i start to rotate in 90 degrees everything is distorted.
      I have tried a bunch of builds all the same. can't find information
      Maybe you can make a video on how to deal with this...

    I've beeing trying to make ML work from my Sandisk Extreme PRO 64 and 128 Gb, but no luck at all. First option I try is to place ML files into the cards, and then boot from de camera, just updating the firmware. This way I'm getting this error with both of the cards: "ML directory not found! please copy all ML files." Second option I'm trying is to make this two cards bootable with Macboot script, then placing the ML files on them, and finally use another 16 GB card to boot ML from the camera. With this 16 GB card it boots normally, but when I change to one of the other cards, ML is not loading correctly, giving this error "Error loading ML/MODULES/EOSM_202.sym..." and making weird things, like not adapting to the size of the camera LCD, duplicating several times the ML folder in the cards... I don't know what more can I do to fix this! Please, any idea?...

      That's why...Big Sur is a pain with ML. I'm still on the previous OS. I believe it can be fixed if the cards are formatted I think from memory as either FAT or FAT32 or something, can't remet off the top of my head. Also if you have access to a windows system, that would be a better way. Big Sur is annoying..

    What kind of battery life do you get while shooting raw?

    • @ZeekEOSZ
      @ZeekEOSZ  3 роки тому

      An hour or so on each battery. After a recording I turn the battery off and one for me can last around 2 hours. Vintage lenses or manual lens will get longer battery life, in comparison to Electronic AF lenses e.g. 18-55.
      I normally carry around 4 in my pocket or bag and end up using only two.
