    I moved to the Raleigh area a few years ago and I wasn’t ready for the change so I moved back to my home state. I’m shocked people are saying it is so unfriendly. No place is perfect but I experienced so many friendly people while there. I hope to be back within a few years.

    At the 1:20 mark, dude must got Raleigh mixed up with NYC. Raleigh might not be great but it's far from a Rat hole and the people are friendly..and the traffic can't even compare to L.A..

    LA traffic gets so much unfair criticism. Drivers there know how to drive, and move around each without making a fuss, even at high speeds. They actually are good about merging and they will help you out in a jam. I've seen them make a hole in traffic 4 lanes deep so someone can get to traffic going the other way. Yeah, some of the big highways can get slow like ANY major city.

      Slow 😂? You can end up in mental institution from LA traffic. It’s horrible! Sickening for your mental health and physical too

    I moved to North Carolina 5 months ago from San Diego California .It's ok it has it's up's and downs just like everywhere .My sister has been out here for about 13 years she loves it and she had been telling me to move out here for almost 10 years she kept saying the cost of living is much lower than California but I kept telling her that i really didn't like the East Coast as far as living there but that is was ok to visit .After 28 years at my job I got fired so i decided to give NC a try was the worst that can happen I can always go back west .I always told my sister it's the same shit cost of living might be lower in NC but the wages are lower and California cost of living is higher but the wages are higher .I'm living with my sister here in NC I want to get my own place but I can't afford it making $15.00 Dollars an hour .In California my rent was $2,600 per month with a car payment of $1009.00 per month and living by myself I was doing great.I think you can do great in NC if you are a person of money or you have a good degree ,your personal business ,a trade or you get a job transfer .So I'm thinking why not go back to a place I love even though it's more expensive than be at a place that I really don't care much for it even though it's cheaper ,I still not a good deal for me because I can't afford my own place.I think the average joe/jane will make between $12.00 HR - $19.00HR here in NC .Unless Like I stated above Degree,trade,etc etc .

    Grew up in Raleigh, left in '98, and now it's boring af. Raleigh is a capital city that's grown tremendously but wants to maintain some kind of nostalgic small town feel and it's evident in it's branding, PR and politics. No city can be both. Put your big city draws on, and deal with the things that come with growth, or give Charlotte the capitol.

    As someone that has been living in Raleigh for three years, I have finally sold my house and as soon as my house on the coast is finished being built in a month or two I’m leaving Raleigh for good. I’m getting into real estate and wanted a fresh start. I moved here from a much larger city, Nashville, Tennessee, and my experience in Raleigh has not been a good one. I can’t speak on everyone else’s experience, but most of the people that I meet and talk to that have moved here also from out of town have the exact same things to say about Raleigh. The people here in Raleigh are some of the rudest people I have ever encountered in my entire life and I used to live in Cleveland and Chicago. It’s like people don’t live in reality here and they would do their best to stab you in the back and keep you down because they’re not accomplishing anything in their lives. Raleigh is very tiny compared to where I’m from and it’s like they want to sell Raleigh as something that is simply not. It’s almost like there paying these data companies to be on the best cities list. I wouldn’t recommend insects to move here. The amount of racism that I have experienced in Raleigh is astounding. Rolly just can’t compete with much larger cities to what it has to offer in reality. It’s so overcrowded with poor infrastructure and it seems poorly ran. It took me three years to make a decent friend in Raleigh on my own due to the lack of genuine people that I am used to even coming from a much larger city. The fake Southern hospitality here is real in Raleigh. It doesn’t have much of an identity and not a lot to do here, but they won’t be able to keep moving here when they can’t even figure their own mess out. It’s like all he wants is tax money to be quite honest. I will say the housing market has slowed down tremendously, but I sold my house in four days so that’s one positive I guess. The food scene in Raleigh is very how can I put this, mediocre. The level of hate in this city is astounding. I’ve owned property in North Raleigh years before actually moving to Raleigh myself so I knew the aspect of visiting but once you live, here is a completely different story. People get so offended when you tell the truth about this place because they don’t want to hear or deal with it I’ve even had a real estate agent go to my personal Instagram page and tell me I was ruining business for him because he made a video about Raleigh and people started telling the truth and he couldn’t handle it and I had to remind him that this is a public platform but anyway. Raleigh has some bad juju on it and it was hard to put my finger on it when I moved here, but I think I hit the right spot.

    You mentioned Pollen. I read that Durham is the best place to live for allergy sufferers on the East Coast. Do you feel better when you are working around Durham?

    • @LivinginRaleigh
      @LivinginRaleigh  11 місяців тому +1

      Great question. You know I never paid attention to how my allergies react in Durham during that time of year. Since Raleigh and Durham are about 30 mins from each other I couldn't imagine it being too much of a difference, but definitely something to keep an eye on as the season approaches again.

    • @Happy-mp7vm
      @Happy-mp7vm 7 місяців тому

      I don't think there's much of a difference, but what I did notice it that, although the two cities are side by side with one another, Durham has less trees, matter fact less of anything.
      I know you're not black, but if we were living in the days of Jim Crow, Durham would be the city poor blacks would live and wealthy whites would reside in Raleigh. Yes I'm black and that's what I see whenever I'm there. Some areas have been developed, but not much, still has that mill feel and look to it, with train tracks everywhere. The city is very dated!

    Public transportation in Raleigh NC, is Awful and Im being very nice, granted it is a great place, but getting around Raleigh is not good, plus its too political for me. Also the wages here are poor , you are not getting any bang for your bucks here. I Would highly recommend Durham, Charlotte, and Asheville, these are the cities that i would live. I plan to move out of NC for good and retire to either the Pacific Northwest, or out of the country. Maybe things will be better in the future. But thats my opinion. I'm from NYC and I lived in Raleigh for 20 years and it is time for a change. Best wishes for those that love and want to move to Raleigh.

    Here's the deal. If you come here and don't want to assimilate, don't bother staying, you'll hate it and won't get along with anyone, including those that moved from where you came from, why, simple if you left because you couldn't afford, stand, or bear with the previous area your brain told you to change you ways. Otherwise, you would've stayed where you are because you brain can handle it and can adjust. I moved here over 30 years ago from up north between the NYC and Philly metros, I just went back, it is still terrible up there and getting worse. Down here, there are changes but, the good thing is that those that are trying to bring the BS northern mentality are either leaving for Florida, good luck or, going back up north.

      The city is for whites only. Simply put! Once college students leave the city, which are mostly white even thou there are HBCU's here which no one hears or talks about. The point is, once they leave for breaks, it's a ghost town, period! #Boring!!!! Do not let this guy fool you about city's in the outskirt. There ain't ish to do!
      I have not a clue why white people dine out as much as they do because the food here is nasty!
      From what I can see, majority of the medical providers are under the age of 28, which means we're all test dummies and if you have any knowledge of healthcare you will notice just how new they are to the profession.
      Ooooh, avoid I-40 you will definitely have some sort of collision of even worst. #TheyCantDrive
      There is just sooo much wrong here. I'm out in 2025 once my lease is up.
      I lived in Charlotte and leaving there for here was a huge mistake and no I won't be returning to Charlotte cuz I didn't find much there either, although it is sooo much better than Raleigh and all surrounding cities.
      If you love and want to live a quality life. #Dont
      Oh I forgot it seems so many have serious mental health issues here. So many walk around talking to themselves, it's drug infested, which may have everything to do with boredom.

    Before moving go spend some time there and see how horrible it is ....also see how much it it to register your vehicle and yearly tag renewal...you will easily pay $600 ro over $700 just to register it....than every year they assess the value of your car and charge you that price you can pay $170 or over $250 just to renue you tags every year...crime is bad 5 people got shot on the Greenway.....they hype this place too much it's not worth it.

    I spent a large part of my life in Raleigh. Moved in and out of town several times. Honestly it's the worst place I have ever lived. Hot and humid in the summer, cold and wet in the winter. The worst part for me was the culture. I have never lived in a place where there were more self-righteous people that actually knew less. Gaslighting and backstabbing are considered normal here. It's part of the culture. Moral standards, they put on a good show. Raleigh is a clean town. But being a wild single guy most of my life, I founds Raleigh time and again as the most common place to have an affair with a married women. Not sure why. Maybe it's part of their back stabbing culture. Their driving is horrible. Using your blinkers in Raleigh is a no-no. Other drivers will use this as a chance to cut you off. Raleigh is famous for this. Don't use your blinkers! Pollen, allergy problems? The entire state is filthy with pine trees. I had many friends that were miserable every spring. The pollen is so thick your car will actually turn yellow. Rain puddles will have this same yellow film on then. It is bad. This goes on for several weeks. Overall, no thanks.
