The person who's unhappy in Raleigh will be unhappy in San Diego or Cincinnati. Miserable people will be miserable wherever they are.

I was unhappy in Raleigh, but then I moved to Wilmington and I couldn’t be happier so that statement is not true for all. Raleigh is just not some people’s vibe. I’m from a much larger city so I know.

We have been looking to move from Oklahoma City to Raleigh for a couple of years now and we have seen the area change so much just in two years! Wake Forest is our favorite suburb!

Raleigh was completely dead when I visited recently. Nothing was in the downtown. And what was there was closed. We did find one restaurant open. And our hotel restaurant was open at the Marriott. It was a weekend also. Not a good place for a weekend trip.

We paid 800k for our house, and our neighbor paid $420k in 2021. Our houses were built around similar time with very similar square footage. Their mortgage rate is 2.2% and ours is 6.4%. 😢😢😢

When we planned our move from Roanoke, VA, we had 2 options: Atlanta or Raleigh area.
Not affordable: New built home from same builder (Pulte), was costing us $300/sqft in Atlanta, while Raleigh area it costed us $185/sqft. Agree prices increased, but it's across the country.
Complicated school system: Coming from Roanoke, though my son (2nd grade) was in a good school, after we moved to WF, we noticed schools are more competitive compared to Roanoke. He took his time to get adjusted but he definitely struggled in initial days of his school. Now we could see a lot of improvement and his teachers are very focused my son's growth.
Lack of public transportation: I lived is NJ, CA, VA. I noticed this issue almost everywhere.
Vanilla: I guess we shouldn't be expecting entertainment if we're not happy with it's fast growth. Fast growth brings in new people, new businesses, more options for entertainment.

Wow! these are such great things to read. Thank you for sharing your experience- it is so valuable for others to see! School in the RDU area is definitely competitive. We have one of the most educated populations in the US, so it makes sense those parents might instill similar values into their children! We are happy to hear you are liking it here!

Very true! East Asian couple moved here about 2 yrs ago getting local (non tech) paychecks. We found the area being not as affordable as it was advertised. Authentic Asian food being more expensive than a lot of places in NYC bcuz of lack of competition. Very few things we can do after work, although I have spent the past two years studying for two major professional certificates thanks to the quietness of the area. IMO it is a nice charming area where people came for job opportunities, which boomed during the past 10 yrs and which pushed up real estate market, but the city itself is not growing as fast as jobs and houses, making the value of the move questionable.

Welcome to Raleigh Y'all: Abandon all hope, ye who enter. ( Previously: Happiness is overrated). Every morning, the sun visibly hesitates before rising over a sea of strip malls and
and cheap housing developments, each more depressing than the last. Raleigh is a city that somehow manages to be both pretentious and utterly bland.
Population: 483,000 Lobotomized Lemmings who went to Duke but won't shut up about it, and NC State grads who think wearing red makes them interesting.
Architecture : Raleigh's buildings are so depressing they make Soviet-era concrete blocks look like Versailles. The downtown skyline is littered with glass boxes and forgettable mid-rise office buildings designed by Kane Realty who clearly hates beauty, joy, and human dignity. At least the PNC building is tall enough, that I can jump off.
Cultural Scene: HAHAHA! This is where culture goes to get euthanized. Our idea of culture is a bluegrass festival that draws mouth-breathing yokels from across the state to gawk at banjo-plucking simpletons. How thrilling.
Nightlife: It's a oxymoron. I've seen more life at a morgue.
Restaurant Scene: Watch in horror as packs of lobotomized "Karens" dressed in LuLu and Patagonia line up like locust for brunch at overpriced and pretentious food halls to take photos of their avocado toast.
Fun fact: On New Year's Eve, Raleigh drops an acorn. Yes, you heard that right. The city's grand celebration involves watching a giant nut fall from the sky.
Fun Fact 2: Raleigh was voted " Most likely to Induce a Coma" by the World Health Organization, 15 years in a row.
In the Bermuda Triangle , creativity isn't just discouraged- it's treated like a communicable disease.

I moved here 15 years ago. I like it but I can't get use to the freaking bugs here. Me and my husband moved several times because of bugs. We just come to realize they are in every apartment we have lived in. Also, we have lived in 3 townhomes and again the bugs still are in those. Each place we lived in was in great nice areas. So of course, we stop moving because that didn't help. Now we are in the third townhome we been here in the last one for five years now. I buy stuff do home remedies nothing works to keep those big gross water looking things out. I ask my husband let's just moved back home. I will deal with the snow anytime than gross big bugs in our home. I enjoyed your video I subscribed thank you.

For me overall I really like Raleigh, I have lived in some major cities, Detroit, Miami, Chicago, and even Greenville SC.. My biggest complaint is all of the beggars, and people throwing beds frames, there trash all over.. To many beggars I have never seen so many in one city, is there homelessness sure, but do I believe they are homeless absolutely not, when they have a cash app number you can send money to they are just down lazy to go and get a job, and I have never seen so much trash all over, and people taking shopping carts and just leaving them wherever…

    • @chewy3141
      @chewy3141 4 місяці тому +1

Trash all over? Man if you've really lived in any of those places you wouldnt be saying that. Ive been to cities all over the country and raleigh is lowwww on the list of trash.
It may be worse now than before, but detroit, most ohio cities, philly, NYC especially, the lehigh valley, theyre all way way way worse with trash. Especially north raleigh, cary and the smaller suburbs.
