  • Part 1: Day 1 & 2 Andy's Trip to Garvellachs, Belnahua, Fladda & Cullipool
A Promised trip for Andy to Kayak the Iconic Garvellachs with a camp on Belnahua to explore the ruined slate working on the island. Visiting Fladda, and Cullipool before returning to Easdale.
The remaining 3 days In Part 2: would take Ian and I South to Stalker Bothy on Scarba for the night before crossing the famous Gulf of Corryvreckan and kayaking down the remote and exposed West coast of Jura to Ruantallian and the iconic raised beaches high above the entrance to Loch Tarbet.
With worsening weather upon us we chose, to escape this exposed remote West side to shelter at Glegarrisdale which involved kayaking in crazy wind speeds above F7 gusting F8 at times.
A sheltered night in Glengarrisdale bothy then another passage through Corryvreckan the next morning to the East side where we'd have wind and tide behind us all the way North up the Sound of Luing and recorded loaded kayak speeds of over 10mph...Another crazy but very enjoyable day!!

Thankyou for great footage and commentary. I slept twice under canvas below the bothy on Scarba.
Actually tried to buy that bothy in the early 2010s, but the new aristocrat owner's polite refusal, together with our doctor's apoplectic objection, put paid to that.
    Thankyou again.
    Bob.

Thank you Geoff. This was so enjoyable and thoroughly interesting. To have your knowledge of these places, both land empty and now neglected industry and once thriving housing was so valued. That and your commentaries on the water are much enjoyed and appreciated. Take good care. Pam

Pam, thanks so much for you kind comments. I suppose my knowledge of the area has accumulated over many years, from both sea kayaking and scuba diving there since the late 70's. The area has stunning scenery, incredible wildlife and a wealth of history through the ages. I'm really pleased you're enjoying travelling with me on my adventures and loads more still to edit. Thanks for watching and your comments, questions are greatly appreciated !!

Thank you Geoff for recording this trip. Nice to see the cliffs and the drone shots to get a layout of the area, as well as the history behind the slate production. Love seeing the deer on the mountain side, that's gotta be rough swimming from island to island. Andy's stills were idyllic. Nice catch on the eagles riding the updrafts, looks like you got some rough seas in part 2, thanks.

On a trip crossing from Islay to Oronsay & Colonsay many years ago we saw a huge royal stag off the end of Ruvaal Lighthouse on Islay ploughing it's way down the Sound of Islay with the tide, it's forelegs beating the water to a froth, such a magnificent sight of awesomely powerful animal. Take a look for our surprise in the cave on Scarba on this video ua-cam.com/video/Tchhlxgslgw/v-deo.html at around 4.27mins in 😂😂 magnificent 👌

I like yours too !!👍👍👍

    Geoff,
First off Geoff, let me say that I hope that your recovery is going well and you are comfortable. Based on the wonderful quality of this video I'm guessing you're doing, not bad.
I must say the quality of your productions are a bit like a good whiskey, improving over time. I very much enjoyed this latest installment and was impressed with the skillful use of the still shots by Andy. Of course, the beauty of the isles themselves keeps me coming back the way a child eagerly awaits the next Batman movie.
WELL DONE! and thank you once again.

You're too kind Doug...thanks! Yeah, my rehab hasn't officially started yet as I'm not due for my 6 week followup till next week but having the couple of setbacks meant I got to speak with the surgeon with positive feedback on my physical progress, hence bent over working on some electrics in the loft today, so it got a bit of workout 😃👍
Now my head is back in the game toward edits, hopefully I shouldn't keep your inner child waiting too long for the next installment.
      Thanks again!
