The melody that Neil Diamond composed for this song is just beautiful. Unforgettable, aching lyrics. Just a great song.
He is to me the greatest singer/songwriter of the rock and roll generation..."I Never Cared For The Sound Of Being Alone." Brilliant!
Brilliant indeed!!!!
I was 17 when that song came out and I loved it and still do.
My dear friend Hal Blaine played drums on the Neil Diamond hits during this period. Hal passed a couple of years ago, but all the heart he put into all the great records he did will live on forever.
Love Neil Diamond is such an amazing song writer. Neil Diamond is from NY. Love this song and love so much of his music 💕
He has a "holy" voice. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
Prob my fav Neil diamond song. Timeless and great.
Goosebumps & tears... When songs had real meaning!
Exactly!
I saw Neil Diamond live in the 80's, he puts on amazing concerts that are pure fun. His catalogue is huge with so many hits. Great reaction Enoma.
Been to 14 concerts with my Dad. I love the guy. Amazing performer and songwriter.
Neil Diamond was born in Brooklyn, New York. He is Jewish and was raised in the faith. His lyrics and melodies are delivered by his voice that perfectly expresses his deep soul. A common metaphor in his music is flight and wings. World class music critics applauded him as a composer when he created the album Jonathan Livingston Segall--a story about a bird that longs to break free from the expected rules of the flock and fly his own course. Its powerful, spiritual and real.
Yes, Neil Diamond is from Brooklyn, NY. He does a beautiful song called Brooklyn Roads. His parents had a store n Brighton Beach, Brooklyn and if you grew up in that area we all went there before and after he started having hits. Lovely reaction. Thank you!
I'm a New Yorker, living in L.A., and this song hits home. Keep up the great reactions!!
Still on my playlist #NeilDiamond You both are beautiful and brilliant!
He came up with the idea for I am..I said, after doing a screen test for a movie about the comedian Lenny Bruce. (A different project than the Dustin Hoffman movie) He felt he bombed so bad and wondered what he was worth as far as an entertainer. I believe he said the song that’s still closest to him.
Neil Diamond was born and raised in Brooklyn New York and he calls this his Autobiographical Song. It's his feelings about his success.
"Songs of Life" is one of Neil's most beautiful and moving songs. Its from "The Jazz Singer" film.
I've loved Neil Diamond ever since the first time I heard him sing Kentucky Woman - that's going back a way!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! At Seventeen, finally! Thank you both. Breaks my heart to hear the words come from her mouth knowing she poured her heart out into the lyrics, and lived it. Shockingly though, to me, there's a video of her singing it when she was young and I thought she was gorgeous. Not 'beauty pageant' looks but just the girl next door, honest face that is striking to me. Thank you again, Savi and Kirti.
Saw Neil Diamond in concert around 1979? Incredible voice
OMG, wow, I have loved Neil Diamond like forever, thank you so much for doing this review, this man was an amazing performer truly iconic and this song is one of his best.
Yes, love it as I expected i would
Thank you for choosing this heartbreaking song by one of the world's greatest singer/songwriters.
Neil grew up in NYC and then moved to L.A. when he was starting his career. So he is saying LA is where he lives but it is not really home. When he says NY is home but it is not his anymore. It is like the old saying in the US that you can never go home again. It means people you knew are now gone and nobody knows you and it does not feel like home when you were young and growing up. Life has now moved on and now he is trapped between two shores. Neither city feeling like home.
This song is about his upbringing with family in New York and chasing his dream in Los Angeles. Two totally different worlds. And how lonely he is. He chased his dream but he is lost between both shores. One of the best songwriters of all time.
Thank you both, for your take on music.
I was fifteen when Janis' song came out. It hit pretty hard.
I'm guessing in 1970/1971 when this song was written, rents in LA were low.
Thank you both, for doing what you do.
His voice is comforting to me
Best wishes always you two. My favorite song and I've performed this 1000 times from Utah, USA
There are better recordings however
We all experience that loneliness and not belonging so I totally get this song too. Great reaction guys.
Neil Diamond is from New York but I think in the mid-late 60’s he moved to LA and worked as a songwriter. For an example, the Monkees recorded I’m a Believer. His very successful career started in LA but, whatever else it may have been for him, it wasn’t home... even if rents in Laurel Canyon were still affordable for aspiring artists.
6:02 As far as I’m concerned you guys are part of the fabric of UA-cam. 🙏
Without listening to any of the first note, I like this. This is the one thing about youtube I love. Thank you, and if I hate the video then so be it.
Def put on my playlist.Thank you....
The movie called Jonathan Livingston Seagul has a sound track by Neil Diamond. I love the movie, it really is something else and I found it to be quite spiritual. I'm glad Savio is adding this song to his playlist, so many more great songs by Neil Diamond for you both to discover.
Thank you for the great reaction!
I've always loved Neil Diamond and I haven't heard Janis Ian since I was a little kid! Great music and great reaction ! 🎸🎶💕
Janis has another hit song called " Society's Child" written after her personal experiences when she was 15 yrs old and sung on national TV when she was 15 or 16.
Two great songs. Well done. Love to see your reactions and feelings about the music you listen to. Such a wide range. Thanks so much. Subscribed!
Two beautiful songs that came from two true wordsmiths. With today’s technology being used to aid in song and music production, it feels like artists don’t need to dig as deep as the ones that came from the era of “pen and paper”.
Ya canny go wrong with neil .. ya gunna always get %100 ..😍😎😁pip pips
Very relatable and well sung.
"At Seventeen" is a bittersweet commentary on adolescent cruelty, the illusion of popularity and teenage angst, from the perspective of a narrator looking back on her earlier experience.
The b-side of "At Seventeen" was the fantastic song "Stars", you should check it out.
Thanks for reacting to Janis Ian; a great singer/songwriter from the late 60s and 70s. Might I suggest "In the Winter" and "Society's Child" by Janis.
Two Beautiful Songs.
Try Neil Diamond Brooklyn Roads,Stones,Play me or Holly Holy beautiful songs!
I think we have all experienced this sort of feeling at some point in
our lives.
Such a haunting song
"i am " is the metaphor for crying out to god ....and nothing changing quick enough or filling him up at all .....very sad song ...
The movie The Jazz Singer is a great movie to understand his feelings. He was suppose to be a Rabbi, and all he wanted to do is sing and perform. And he gave up his family and parents to chase a dream. A once in lifetime dream. He divorced his wife and has the Top 3 divorce money in music and was because for 20+ years he was away from home 200-250 days a year. And he said “she deserved every penny for his much I been away”
Janis Ian died so young...She left us all with this great song...R.I.P.
Janis is still alive today, did you maybe mistake her for Janis Joplin?
I stand corrected! I was thinking of Minnie Riperton.
Man in the Wilderness by Styx is a must..keep up the great work
Excellent💖
Neil is from Brooklyn, NY
The rents aren't low anymore. That was more than forty years ago.
Try 50 years
coming to America is a moving song
Neil diamond hot august night, peter framton, framton comes alive. If your of a certain age bets are you had both.
“Not even the chair” he talking to himself. He lost in the music world of LA but he only knows his strict Jewish New York upbringing. Have a look at his “sort of real life” movie The Jazz Singer.
. . . At no time has Neil ever mentioned having had a ... " Strict Jewish New York upbringing " ... His parent's were not devout followers of their faith ; I know you are getting mixed up betwixt the
' Jazz Singer ' storyline ... and reality .
👍👍👍
Most of the pretty girls I knew in school had the tables turned later on them in life with broken marriages, financial difficulties and their faces are ravaged from years of cosmetic surgeries. Seems father time had a way of blessing those that were unpopular in the end.

Not even his psychiatrist [The Chair] is making him feel any better... He is not really listening. He was crying out for help, but no one was listening.
A man that has known fame and fortune. And who is admired around the world by millions. Still has an emptiness deep inside himself that he can not get over.
"But I have an emptiness deep inside and I cried, but I can't let it go...For I'm not a man who likes to swear, but I never cared for the sound of being alone."
My goodness Neil was truly going through so much pain during his career. It just goes to show that having everything does not always makes one happy...
Could you guys please react to Orestes by a Perfect Circle live at red rocks. Maynard James Keene s best song.
