I'm a South African 25 year old black guy and I know for a fact Neil Diamond is a legend. This guy can sing, damn.
Neil Diamond was one of the best concerts I ever saw. He just had a presence I can't explain. Truly special.
I agree, I finally managed to see him at Woburn Abbey in 2005 . Fantastic. Loved every second of it. And, such a distinctive voice. Loved loved and still love his stuff
I saw him back in the early 80s at a concert in Tulsa. Still one of the best concerts I've been to.
I was privileged to see Neil in concert.
My favorite concert I have ever been too.
It was the only concert I have attended that no one left their seat!
No one left to use the bathroom or gets drinks.
Everyone was glued to their seats memorized by his stage presence his amazing songs and his beautiful voice.
Most of his songs he wrote and have a meaning behind them.
When I was in high school in the 70s I had every Neil Diamond album, he was my favorite artist back then. Holly Holy, Coldwater Morning, Soolaimon, Forever in Blue Jeans, way too many good songs to list.
Singer songwriter right there! The tone and inflection of his voice is second to none.
Neil just has a voice like no other. So damn good.
Great songs to.
One of the greatest songwriters ever
Neil always had a presence, a style in his own unique way. So many great songs! Try reacting to his song America!
Saw him many Tim’s in concert…three hours of Heaven…no opening acts,no intermissions. Neal was shy and introverted but said he became a different person onstage. Glory Road,Forever in Bluejeans,Holly Holy,Beautiful Noise,Love on the Rocks to name a few. Amazing performer wrote most of his own storytelling songs! He was often referred to as the Jewish Elvis! Thank you for going down the Neil Diamond trail! Most of his songs directly related to what was going on in his life at the time.
Great review great great singer. The very best. The diamond standard
I love Neil Diamond. Saw him in concert and he did not disappoint!!
This is a song I can relate to, being from another country. Not feeling home anywhere anymore....leaving me lonely still. Neil Diamond has so many great songs, too many to mention.
Great insight again. You only get one Bob Dylan and one Neil Diamond.
HUGE TALENT!! Looove Neil Diamond. He writes beautiful music as well as sings it! Holly Holy is another great song he does,........he says it’s transcendental.
From this same BBC show he does an incredible version of “ Holly Holy”.. Lou Reed is another one with a very unique delivery.. totally his own type of phrasing.. also Leonard Cohen..
Neil Diamond was just spectacular. This song is great. Still love you Neil. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have seen Neil Diamond 5-6 times over the past 30+ years.. there is no better singer/song writer and performer (well, except maybe Freddie) - but totally different genre! He’s amazing.
Happy Birthday to the #thegreatestsingersongwriterofalltime!!! Put your hands together for the One and Only #neildiamond
Love it."I am I said",that one of a kind voice.Great storytelling.
I don't know if you've reacted yet to Neil Diamond's Holly Holy. It's by far my favorite of his songs.
Great reaction to a great song/artist. His voice is so unique
Chod, go listen to the studio version on your own. The strings really accentuate the song.
@Vincent Schmitt Agree
I think this version is from the live studio concert at the BBC in London, early '70's.
Thirded. The release version has a lot more impact. The strings and his voice combine to make a much more forceful statement.
I think the problem has to do with how "packaged" the music industry is. Everyone is polished and auto-tuned until there is no difference between anyone.
I quite agree, but there are exceptions. Look up Angelina Jordan on YT, you'll thank me
WOW ! Beautiful man, beautiful voice, beautiful performance. I have to admit that when he was this age, (I'm guessing this is early 70's?)I didn't pay that much attention to him. I would have been in high school and been into Rock and he seemed uncool. Do I feel like an idiot?!? Thank you for reintroducing me to this incredible vocalist.
Neil Diamond is the greatest. So many hit songs but no one plays his best songs. Try “Cherry Cherry”, and “You Got To Me”
Brilliant singer songwriter.
Play Me is a beautiful song!
Neil Diamond/I Am, I Said studio version
Magnificent talent. A legend.
An example of a special female voice: Carole King's "Way Over Yonder". Outstanding singer/songwriter and pianist. Famous for her catalogue of songs for herself and other artists.
"Charisma Performers" are extremely rare, especially young charismatic performers. In the 60s & 70s there was a massive number of young people (18-30) compared with today's % population due to the baby boomer generation. Therefore, there were more young singers and more chance of finding a 1/100,000 charisma performer. Simple math. If we had more young people today singing we could find another charismatic performer like Neil Diamond or James Brown. Now Elvis was a 1 in 10 million. That would be hard to replicate but not impossible.
Thank you for your reaction, Chod! For my money the best two Neil Diamond songs are this one and "Brother Love's Traveling Show"! Put it on your long list of songs to get to, right after "Hi-De-Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears (I am sooooo looking forward to seeing your fact when you react to that one!). Best wishes Chod to you and yours, stay well!!
Along with Dylan, Diamond, Willie Nelson, Jonny Cash, Frank Sinatra all had unique expressiveness that made even other people's songs they sang their own.
Beautifully melancholy song. When Neil first started out, the record company tried to get him to change his last name, because they thought it sounded fake. He said no way, he was keeping the last name of Diamond.
He has a bunch of great songs, some of which you've reacted to, but my favorite is the incredible "Be," which Neil wrote for a movie and even conducted the orchestra. The lyrics are deep and the music gorgeous. Please, react to that song one day.
Loved what you had to say. I don't know if you have done any of the following, but if you did not see the "Neil Diamond Talks About" I suggest you do. I just wanted to suggest that you look at the "Neil Diamond Talks About" (various videos) Especially "Neil Diamond Talks About "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" Then Plays It, Live 1971" the story behind 'the story' I believe you will be even more impressed. Good day to you and blessings "Holly Holy" Then Plays It (Live 1971), "Man of God" Then Plays It (Live 2008 UK), "Cracklin' Rosie" Then Plays It (Live 1971), His Classic First Hit "Solitary Man" Then Plays It
Yes!! Such a great song.
Thank God I actually saw him in concert in 08
My favourite song of his
Those beautiful eyes!!!
I love Neil Diamond from the 60's. He is such a great songwriter and singer. He was another one of those that whenever he was going to be on Ed Sullivan or Dean Martin you made sure you saw it cause you'd have to wait a while to see it again. Maybe get his live concert album "Live From The Greek" I believe it was. Great live album! Thanks for reacting to Neil!
My 2nd all time favorite singer.
Talking about Uriah Heep...
Ken Hensley , keyboard player (1970-1980) released a solo album in '71 called: Proud words on a dusty shelf.
Go for the title song : Proud words on a dusty shelf.
Love your thoughts. Thank you.
hey Chod! plz react to The Soft Parade by the Doors you'll love it ! ♥️
A LEGEND
That song....so meaningful...is any of it worthwhile if there is no one to share it with? Loneliness...is awful. He's screaming out that he exists, but no one hears or cares for him. Such a great song...try his version from the Hot August Night album.
I went to the taping of the Lloyd Thaxton Show when he was in New Orleans in 1966 and I was 13. The show would travel around the country featuring an up and coming artist and have some local talent too. Neil just came out with his first hit Solitary Man, sat on a stool, and lip-synced to the recording. I don't really remember how long it took (it felt like 18 hours) but they would have to stop and reshoot over and over and over again because he was off the beat.
Chod I can't explain how the women went crazy for him.
Some of us still do!!
Neil is a in a class all by himself! Wow. And, that's because he writes those songs, and sings them is conviction!
Great song. I was 4 years old when it came out in 1971. God, I'm getting old.
I prefer to say getting mature :)
Neil Diamond/Done Too Soon studio version
Neil is a killer songsmith...I hope you get a chance to check out some Cat Stevens...The most serene face you'll ever see...:)
You should listen to Hot August Night. It's a double live album. He really shines.
If you haven't done these 2 songs yet, they are a must!!!! " Brother loves traveling salvation show" and " Thank the Lord for the Night Time" GREAT songs!!
If you want to hear someone comparable, try Gordon Lightfoot, If You Could read My Mind.
Sorry I requested this song without checking to see if done it already and you had love this song thank you
Keep up the good work.youre different bro
Please please please more Neil. Holy holy, soolaimon, forever in blue jeans, and Of Course: SWEET CAROLINE
Such a great song and reaction! Please check out some music by twenty one pilots. I recommend their songs Shy Away or Redecorate from their new album
Listen "you are so good For me", My favorite song.
Loving Her Was Easier Than Anything Else, Kris Kristofferson is another of those great lyrics.
Neil Diamond was known as the “Jewish Elvis”. I’ve seen both in concert numerous time....from a concert standpoint they have similarities.....the way they both commanded the stage....the passion for what they were singing.....they both had excellent singing voices....the big difference, when you were at a Diamond concert you knew he’d written about 95% of the songs he was singing so there was a deeper connection to him and his music ( listen to Neil close his show with “Hell Yeah” at his hometown arena Madison Square Garden, it will blow you away!!!!) Elvis didn’t write his songs so in a lot of instances he was singing a hit by someone else and giving you his interpretation. You made an interesting point though. The only two writer/performers who come close to Dylan’s lyrics are Paul Simon and Kris Kristofferson....listen to their stuff.....Peace.
Bob Dylan turned 80 yesterday.
😊👍
Neil recently had to retire after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He toured and sold out venues for over 50 years!
Harry Chapin or Jim Croce great story tellers

DO THE LIVE VERSION OF LOCHLOOSA BY JJ AND THE MOFRO
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
Solitary Man
"brooklyn roads".
While Neil has a ton of commercial hits he also has great album cuts in 1970 on his Tap Root Manuscript album he had a side long suite of African (not sure which country) influenced songs This predated Paul Simon Graceland and Talking Heads Remain In Light
This arguably is his best work The song Soolamon was a minor hit I recall hearing it on AM radio and liked it but I did not know it was a part of a suite Whether you react to this or not you owe it to yourself to hear this masterpiece This video has an intro The song begins with the rain around :45 sec mark ua-cam.com/video/yMZW6jO3y5w/v-deo.html
John Denver you can't exclude John Denver he was amazing
You might like Solitary Man and Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show (if you haven't reacted to that one yet).
You’ll like the studio version much better
Can you check out blues traveler? The hook should be the first song. If you haven't heard them.
Known as the Jewish Elvis, Neil had a lot of great music in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. The sound on his video needs turned up.
Adele has that.🤘🏻❤️
Another Neil Dimond no but you do get a Billy Joel. More please. Enjoy
You like delivery?
Niel Young!
Old Man
Harvest Moon
Pick any song...genius!
Have you reacted to 'Done Too Soon'?
That was a great concert except for two things:
1. VERY FAKE audience applause. Sometimes they rise up and then cut-off again so fast that you can tell there's some poorly trained person with their hand on a volume knob of a canned-applause machine.
2. Neil is STONED! That doesn't bother me because he sang so well, perhaps even because of. But he seems so WASTED during some of the between-song dialogs that's it's funny at times, but also possibly a bit embarrassing for him later on. Watch it when he speaks about people talking in French.
Enjoy the entire concert here: ua-cam.com/video/8x88avsme-0/v-deo.html
I believe, especially for first-time listening, the studio versions of his songs are better.
The technology of today erases the authenticity.
Chod…have you reacted to Tim Hardin?
Yes, Tim Hardin - sad, beautiful soul. My favorites "Reason to Believe" and Red Balloon". He sang with such emotion. RIP Tim
@@cindyfalstrom7231 I loved black sheep boy and of course if I were a carpenter
Another iconic singer songwriter who has a huge body of work is Willie nelson. Here's a good one ua-cam.com/video/iZaZqx9v3dU/v-deo.html
Bob Dylan was? He's still here dude.
Why? 100 % MY OPINION. Many might disagree. and I nay be an old jerk, and completely wrong. Because he's a songwriter, composer, orchestrator, guitar player and singer. He's not about writing disco dance music, overloud rock'n roll, or being a dancer. Some of his later studio stuff is over-produced: Coming to America, for instance, and the Barbra Streisand duet on You Don't Bring Me Flowers; they lost the intimate personal touch. But this may be the best song he wrote. And he had a long career, and a LOT of stuff to chose from.
I think it's time to do some Tom Petty.
