- Honda B Series Limited Slip Differential Install (Extremely Satisfying)
Hello and welcome to another extremely satisfying Honda B Series video. Today we are going to be installing a Wavetrac limited slip differential into my B Series Honda Transmission. A limited slip differential is a huge upgrade of the the stock open differential. The limited slip diff will cause both tires to receive power in a wheel spin scenario. The stock diff would only cause one to spin and it would be the tire with the least grip. The limited slip diff upgrade will cause a huge bump in straight line acceleration and cornering. This is not an end all guide to differential installs, but it is an extremely detailed guide to installing a Wavetrack limited slip differential into a Honda/Acura LS B Series manual transmission. This process will be very similar to every other B Series limited slip diff install, but may not be exactly the same so please double check with the manufacturer of your differential before following my guide step by step. Not only that, but the sounds and visuals that you are about to experience are extremely satisfying. With that said, let me know how you enjoyed the video in the comment section down below.

Gus is a baby that drools
Only over you
To provide a bit of backstory on this comment, Gus is a coworker of mine. He was yelling at one of the other express technicians today and then as he finished yelling a big glob of drool came slangin out of his mouth. #babygus
My favorite part of this video was seeing you drop things. IM NOT ALONE
FINALLY! My built D16 has an open diff and I really regret not getting an LSD while the trans was out of it
I’ll be making a video on if it was worth it once I get the car running.
@@boosted_john I forget John what happened to it?
When that LS V-tec kicks in yo! Love the S2k and this build awesome to see you getting back on it. Don't know how you work and UA-cam respect
I’ve always watched HSG for B-series tranny rebuilds and he makes it look easy but I can tell from watching this that it really isn’t. 😂 good job, Jon!
Never use old diff bearings. Next time you remove the speedo ring set it upside-down on a table, apply heat to it and it will fall off on its own. And last put your diff in a dry ice cooler. The NEW bearing will fall on. Heat is the number one enemy of a bearing
Hey Jim! Hope you're doing well man. I hope your build is coming along nicely. I donated to your gofundme a few months back. Always a pleasure to see you in my comment section.
You need to check the bearing/diff preload when you install a new diff like that. It can mess up the bearings and or diff possibly or the case is the transmission of you don’t check it and shim it properly
How does one do that? I'm curious to know when installing mine.
@@JohnDoe-cs5uo put the diff in put the case on n put a few bolts in and have axle seal out of the top case you put on and put the feeler gauge between the bearing n the shim in the case I think spec is .001-.010 but not 100% should look that up
0.004 max per the Honda shop manual @@schmikels_garage
I recently bought a transmission with a Cusco diff swapped in, clearance not checked. 0.05mm to tight and its caused issues with the diff bearings.
I love the b series stuff I’m really considering getting my own
It’s been a super fun build! What do you have now?
@@boosted_john a stock 08 civic 😭it’s my first car it’s not great but it gets me places
Keep killing it my dude!!
Pro tip! Loosen the access plug while the trans is on the car. Saves me a lot of headache when I take apart Honda trans 😂
Impact 🤷🏻♂️
Pretty nerve-racking that you keep dropping shit lmao. Love it
“extremely satisfying” drops just about everything 🤣🤣 That’s me Asf
Looking good got a b18a1 done a bit of stuff to it so far headgasket and oil pump the assembly is always the most satisfying. I can relate tho I'm always dropping shit 😅
This makes me happy! Proud of you bae! Turbo civic-I’m looking forward to seeing you😍
😘
This looks very intimidating
Great video. Although if anyone is watching do not spin a hot bearing. Its can make flat spots on the balls and prolong the life of the bearing.
It’s so shiny and new! Nice! LY 😘
Haha thanks mom. Love you too ☺️
That WAS satisfying
Dude this series is really making me want to build an EK or EG, I’m just saving for the day I can import an AE86. Maybe my midlife crisis will be building a honda 😭😭
Hell ya! Boosted's back!
Great video! You made it look simple 🤣🤣
Best BELIEVE when I H-Swap my Integra I will definitely put in an LSD while it’s out. Much love John you definitely got the beans!
BEAN MODE ENGAGED
Great Video Man! Turbo Noll
Let’s go boys!
So excited, give it the beeansss
I never had a good experience with wavetrac lsd's. They either won't let the passenger axle go or it slips out on its own.
Did you have to do anything for proper bearing preload?
cool I wish if have the guts to work on my transmission like this
I was pretty nervous tbh. I hope I did everything correctly.
Im wondering how this diff held up without shimming it
I’ve always froze the bearings and heated the surface bearing sits on did it that way
Did you use the torch on the bearing to get to slide on the diff?
Sure did roasted the trans before he could drive it
im curious how sketchy that is. ive never torched a bearing out of fear of cooking the grease
How much should a job like this cost? Just in labor
Love the content keep it up Jon like 👍🏼 :)
Night and day difference, way less torque steer 💯
I had pulled the trans out from a d17 to change a bearing or 2 and I messed up the placement of neutral so when I put it back in the car all the gears had resistance and I wasn't able to even shift into 5th or reverse (I had some guy do it for me). Helpful video tho, will be looking at this for reference 👍
I actually pulled the trans out like 4 times but only opened it one time. I been sold that car and now I have a 99 EX Coupe 5 speed.
Watching you work on that table stresses me out lol.
Lol working on that table stresses me out 😂
Didnt check difference clearance/play?
I did off camera and it seems to be perfect.
Did you have to shim the new diff?
I didn’t find anything in the instructions that talked about shimming it and it seemed to fit with zero play so I think it was good without a shim.
What play did you shim the diff to
Honda calls for 4 to 7 Thousandths thrust.
Yeahhhhhhh rightttttt
Sweet install! Didnt change any synchros? Or not that beat up?
I just said frick it and reused the old ones 😂
@@boosted_john send it! 🤣
Now time for a big 2 wheel peel
What is that tool called lmk asap
why wavetrac over mfactory ? and also how come you did not check diff end play in the video ?
Did it off camera. Fixed it later…
No loc tite in the ring gear bolts ?
I did off camera
@@boosted_john was just curious cause my old boss put my ring gear on my new diff and didn’t loc tite them and the bolts backed out a couple months later and destroyed everything
Signs of brass... but no syncro replace.lol
Hey man how is the wavetrack holding up? I got one for my h22 stroker build
So far so good! I only have about 300 miles on it tho.
it's been two years how's it holding up now@@boosted_john
Don’t be afraid to use air tools !!
Dropping things like an amateur but made up for it by holding the ratchet by the neck on low torque bolts.
Noice
transmissions scare me lol
