- Опубліковано 28 чер 2020
- The Last of us 2 was the most anticipated games in this current era of Playstation. Now that i have had the opportunity to finish this game, i want to give my brutally honest thoughts on the last of us 2 in this in-depth review & critique video. I would like this video to help those on the fence on buying this game, and helping you to see if this game is a game for you or not. What i can truly say is that this game is not what i expected, and even though this game does suffer a few issues, it is still truly one of the most emotional and brutal experiences i've had in any media.

This video has been the most worked on video i've ever done. I feel the crunched went on this video was worth it and i hope i can open a broader conversation about this game. Would love to hear your thoughts, good or bad of this game! Thanks for the amazing support and we move on to other great games!
Thanks for this review AP 👍 and I'm sure that because of this review you'll get a lot of subs 😉😁 and I personally would give this game a 9.5/10. That is mainly because of the fact that the pacing can sometimes be all over the place. I'm gonna wait for your review for ghost of tsushima and then I'll unsubscribe. Just joking I'm still gonna be subscribed to this channel that I'm sure will have a million subs by the end of the year and will be one of the fastest growing youtube channels of all time, and especially because of the fact that a great and honest person is the person who owns it. Keep up the great work AP 👍👍👍🙌👍👍💪.
Hydar Almaliki I just subscribed because of this video! I’ve been watching everything LOU2. I found The Last Of Us 2 through PewDiePie and have been legit obsessed with watching it since then! I play games but wouldn’t call myself a gamer...I just love watching people play! I enjoyed this video a lot, I enjoy his take on the game and it’s awesome to hear from you he’s a great person too!
@@princessjen99 that still sounds like a ton of fun.
What you did with this video is the exact same thing Naughty Dog did with this game: crunched and worked the most on. This video made me cry by how well you made this review, and what game Naughty Dog put down. I wanna say thank you for both this video and The Last Of Us Part II by Naughty Dog. This is the proof that they never made and make a bad game.
The story genuinely felt like I lost someone important. It was painful and emotional. To me the story wasn’t about revenge, it was about forgiveness and loss.
@Evidentialist but it never used to be about forgiveness i think?, its always about escaping your past but guess what?? You cant actually escape your past" like joel said.
@Evidentialist dude its a line from part1... how is he out of charchter in a game that made his charchter.
@Evidentialist dude that line has nothing to do with joel's death, it represents joel trying to forget about sarah but ellie handing him sarah's picture which made him saying," you cant escape your past". Have you even played the game???
Exactly..but people are so mad..i dont know they are just idiot or simply hate nd.
Evidentialist there is actually a letter that you can find and it says that the people of Jackson tried to be nicer to strangers and welcome them with open hands. Joel made a mistake there, he is not some perfect dude that always does things right
"Ahead of it's time"
What a stunning way of putting it. I truly believe that in hindsight, Tlou2 will be looked back upon as a revolutionary game that we in 2020 just were not prepared for.
Awesome game and amazing review, you've earned a sub!
I appreciate your comment and I appreciate you subscription. More videos like this coming very soon 🙏🏼🙏🏼
It will be seen as everything you can do wrong on a sequel.
The fact that people have sold their copies en masse tells us a lot.
It will be remembered as the worst sequel you can make of a game and how toxic leadership can turn away over half of your best staff and devs.

nothing is perfect after all, at least I found this game a masterpiece.
"they had fun on their patrol" that's one way of saying it
Finally more positive reviews. It’s hard to find for this game (outside of big critics and publishers). When I finished the game, the somber tone is what sat with me most. It’s emotionally draining (mostly the final 4-5 hours) and a long experience. I would say it would work better narratively as a television show. But every single day since then, I’ve loved it more and more. ESPECIALLY on my second playthrough. I love it as much as the first game. It challenged me as a player to accept things for how this world is, because their world is flawed, full of hate, beauty, and everything inbetween. TLOU 2 has more flaws than the first, but when it’s great, it’s fucking great and surpasses the first game at its height. It definitely, to me, doesn’t deserve the hate it gets. But Neil and a lot of the developers/actors knew it would be divisive going in.
Not at all, people say like, its a movie-game but tlou2 is a story that can only work in a "videogame" .
The people who actually do love the game are probably gonna love it even more after it’s been out for a few years and it has nostalgia just like the original. I already like it more because I only played the original months ago so the nostalgia isn’t really there yet. Love Joel though. And Abby now.
The story does play out like a daytime drama...
This game is my fav game of all time. Everything was amazing. The gameplay, the story, graphics, music.. 10/10 for me.
This game is truly amazing but the only flaw it has was abby day one was a little slow but when we met yara and lev thats what things picked up in my opinion.
Exactly
I found Ellie’s day 3 slowest (before the aquarium, that bit was hella intense). I liked Chinatown in abby’s day one because the vibe is so different there with the architecture
@@tommyhickin4669 I liked Abby's day one on my second playthrough, on the first I was still not sure bout naughty dog's decision but I love it now!
The reason it went slow was because players needed time to adjust to having to play as Abby, just like how after Sarah's death, the first game slowed down for a little while so players could process jt
Finished the Game right before this review!
In my opinion a 10/10
YES
Yep, great game
Awesome it's a 9/10 for me,
@@milorexhar6621 a Masterpiece or a 10/10 doesnt has to be perfect, nothing is..
@@maxcalix9195 yea.. but i think those not so perfect things were intentionally not perfect, otherwise it would have impacted my overall experience, atleast a bit.
I dont understand the hate actually. This is just perfect. This game hit me hard. The emotions i felt, pain, sadness, rage, and relief. this is just beautiful. This is a memory i will treasure forever.
I agree, I know you wrote this nearly a year ago but even now I still don't agree with the hate.... Games that can make you feel extremes are very very rare and watching the many play throughs on yt I can see so many people experience highs and lows... Crying uncontrollably, laughing, angry etc etc.... That's what makes this amazing...
1. Showing the player that Joel killed Abby's father at the start of the game would not be an improvement. The whole point of waiting until Abby's section to show that is to spend the first half of the game getting the player invested in killing Abby. We aren't told why she killed Joel on purpose, so that we develop a similar blind hatred for her the way Ellie does.
2. Abby's section starts slow BECAUSE it's immersion breaking. The writers knew people would be very jarred by having to play the character they have wanted to kill for 10+ hours, and making the first part of her section slow makes sure nothing truly important happens while the player is still adjusting to this change. They do some character development stuff and a little action, but nothing major. That way you can settle in to playing as Abby so that by the end of Seattle Day 1 as Abby you can be ready for the section where she is capture and decides to help Lev and Yara after they save her. By then most players are willing to entertain the idea that Abby is not pure evil.
3. Abby's section absolutely has to do with the "main" story. Even if Ellie never finds out about it, Abby has redeemed herself for the brutal way she kill Joel by the end and lets Tommy and Ellie go for a second time in the theater. Without Abby's growth over her 3 days in Seattle she never would have done that. Not only that, this experience is crucial for understanding her relationship with Lev, how it led them to Santa Barbara, and her refusal to fight Ellie on the beach. Finally, this game does more to challenge the feelings and attitudes of the player than any game I've ever played and maybe any game ever. Abby's long section is needed to convince the player that she has redeeming qualities and to question whether she deserves to die for killing Joel. One of the most daring things a game has ever done, Part 2 gives you ever reason to start hating Abby by having her kill a beloved character and portraying her as basically pure evil, then challenges you to see how she had a real motivation, has many redeeming qualities, and is just as real, good, and bad as Ellie is. Many people will not get this and just hate her blindly, they will miss the whole point and probably hate the game. Without giving the player time to walk in Abby's shoes we cannot realize that she does not deserve to die.
Otherwise, fantastic review that did not miss much.
It really saddens me is that so many people completely dismiss Abby's complexity and humanity purely because she killed Joel (and I thought everyone hated Joel) I do admire a story that takes risks
Fair enough that the story isn't for everyone but to say it's awful? No, just no
I've heard arguements aboht how the game should have played like this: play as Ellie on day 1 in seattle and switch to Abby on day 1 and so forth. And then I thought about it; it wouldn't flow or work as well
And I’m fully with you on all 3 of ‘em
Man. You made me cry just using your voice and review..god bless u man.your voice tell that you are a truely nice hearted person..🙂
this is my first time hearing someone talk about how smooth the transition is from cinematic to gameplay, when i was still new to gaming, this is one of the little things i noticed in the first game and i just think that's really cool. im no expert in gaming, i just appreciate small details like this.
it is truly amazing how naughty dog pulled it off. It is outstanding and deserves to be recognized because the graphics are just exquisite and it shows how much work went into this game.
Thank you for this review. I was checking yesterday to see if you’d upload recently. I feel like this game was definitely flawed as far is it came to pacing in certain sections. But for the most part I was mind blown. Like you I was feeling things no piece of media ever made me feel. To the point where i sat with those feelings for about a week following beating it. It is flawed but it’s also a masterpiece
I’m right there with you on this game . My first play through all I wanted was revenge for Ellie and about 2 hours into Abby’s story I found myself getting frustrated. I just wanted to get back to Ellie but it all just cane together for me . That ending was brilliant. Honestly I thought I wanted her to kill Abby right up until I got to that beach . Ellie was on the brink of becoming the thing she thought she wanted to kill and I realized that killing Abby their would of made her no different then when she started this journey. Yes she lost everything but kept her humanity and she’s a lot stronger for it. I felt a lot of hope in this ending and on my second play through I gained even more appreciation for Abby’s journey . Honestly I don’t think I would change one thing about this game .
This is by far the best game I have ever played and that means something I am already 60 and played a lot of games, great review you paid a lot of attention to all of those fine little details ,the Graphics,Moment’s,Story Character’s and Emotions. I give it a 10+ out of 10

Last of Us 2 was great. Not as good as the first, but it was a depressing experience, and its a solid addition to the Naughty Dog family. It's not what the internet is saying at all. It's great. I was left feeling heartbroken, sick, depressed, and I began to question am I on team Abby? Or am I on team Ellie? The game makes you think. Telltales were masters at that. Seeing that feel being integrated into Last of Us was soo crazy :O I'd give it a B an 8/10
I’m on both teams to be fair. And unlike most people I’d say morally they are both equal. I’m glad the last of us gets shaken up more than uncharted
@Tommy Hickin yeah, if you look at uncharted, for as great a game as they all are, do have something of a successful formula they all follow to some extent. I feel the last of us was their chance to step into far more serious storytelling with a meaning behind it all.
The game is not great. It's not even particularly good. Aside from graphics and visuals, the gameplay is very un-fun after a couple hours, and the story borders on intentionally bad. IMO anything over a 6 is just fanboying or denial.
@@Korijenkins1414 look I respect your opinion and everything, but you're saying that ANYONE who gives the game ANYTHING above a six is just being a fanboy for stating their opinion. I think that the game is a 9.5/10 so does that mean that I'm just being a fanboy. Look, respect people's opinions on video games and stop saying that people who like the game are just being fanboys and "denying" your opinion on the game. If you like the game, great. If you dont like the game, that's perfectly fine. Just don't disrespect anyone's opinion like that. Again I respect your opinion on the game.
@@hydaralmaliki7784. Great response my friend! I wouldn't respect his opinion after what he just wrote. I Ioved & enjoyed everything about this beautiful game. But idiots who write daft messages on UA-cam! Saying we're basically "FANBOYS" or in denial. You see, people who love this game, get bombarded with BULL-SHIT hate! & they basically disrespect your opinion. But if you hate the game, the same people seem to respect your opinion. Sad, sad time's we're living in. Welcome to 2020. The year we can't have our OWN OPINION!! 😱
Best review out of all I've seen. And i was really suprised when u said u are Latino. Being latino myself. Awesome review 👍
After watching the whole review I personally feel this is the most put together and well described review out there. And AP describing the game as a "Flawed Masterpiece" is the most accurate description for the game as although the game has its lows there are a LOT more highs to match that.
Thank you AP for this very accurate review 🙏
Final someone knows how to review this game! Thank you! I love the last of us part 1 as much as you do, and I also enjoy very much for part 2, it's sad to see people don't like it just because certain character has died, it just not fair to naughy dog.
The last of us fanbase is just as worse as the Star Wars fanbase. They always shit on others who liked the game without even thinking what they are saying. Yeah if you hate the game then that’s fine, but that doesn’t mean you have any right to hate others who have different opinion than you do.
Majority of the fanboys judge like only the first 2 hours of the game (including Joel’s death) and say the game is complete garbage without even finishing it completely. I understand that Joel is a liked protagonist in gaming and the way he died doesn’t seem heroic. I mean y’all forgetting the fact that Joel was a hunter once and he used to kill lot of innocents just for survival like how every other people are in the Last Of Us universe. Not to mention he killed the doctors who could’ve created a vaccine from Ellie. This isn’t some another Uncharted game where all the good guys survive and win, while all the bad ones lose. Last of us is meant to show “realism” behind their story, unlike Uncharted.
This review felt like a chat with a friend. Thank you.
Great video AP. Sorry I kind of fell off the earth for a while, I’ve been playing this game on new game plus and upgrading like a madman on hard mode because the gameplay is so fun, and I also wanted some alone time with the story myself.
As far as Abby is concerned, from a writing standpoint, she’s a fairly decent character and a complex one at that, but man, they SHAFTED her on her introduction. A lot of new players predictably hated her and few gave her a chance after. It’s just kind of a shame to be honest.
I’d rate this game an 8 overall personally. The story was not as mind blowing as the first, but it wasn’t THAT bad either. It had problems, but the gameplay and presentation made up for it, as well as a few epic set pieces. (My favorites were the sniper battle with Tommy as Abby and, well, pretty much all of day 2 for Ellie. Soooo much happens on that day)
That little detail abt the mirror in Joel’s house broke me. He couldn’t look himself in the eyes after what he did but he wouldn’t change it for the world, what a complex and impactful statement to make about a character
I got into a debate with a commenter on another video who claims that the mirror point is invalid because other buildings have missing mirrors and that other parts in Joel's house still have mirrors intact. I think those are poor arguments however, it doesn't make sense that joel would break or remove every mirror in his house and also the game does not give the impression that Joel's mirror is missing because of wear and tear or remodeling. To me of course that added detail of Joel's missing mirror is supposed to symbolize Joel's inner turmoil.
THE ONLY REVIEW I NEED, good game, I can't explain it better, all we need is a multiplayer to make it the best game
dick Sinormose when the 1 hour and 35 minute video of the plot leaked, I saw multiplayer gameplay and it looked great, it obviously had a lot of work to be done but it’s gonna be sick
I went into this game knowing most of the major things thats gonna happen but still the game managed to amaze me
Its really a game you have to experience for yourself to have an opinion about it
Last of us 2 is one of those games you need to play twice, my emotions was all over the place and angry.. the second time I had more clarity of the message and story..understand joels character why he was different from part1.. joel was getting soft once he met ellie, Bill called joel out that he will get himself kill..as careful joel is he lowkey took bill advice tried to leave ellie with his brother to finish the job sense he knew about the fireflies locations. that conversation joel & ellie had when she escaped from Tommy's was joel breaking point BECOMING A different character that contributed with him letting his guard down after 4years.. the real joel would never travel with kids, trust anyone, save abby or have any kind of relationships..ellie broke Joel's survival routine....after joel save ellie all he wanted to see ellie grow up and be there for her...at that point joel didn't care about being safe, he was ready to die for his past.
I agree man. Imma replay it at some stage too, I feel like experiencing it again without the shock and emotional turmoil from the initial experience will make it easier to appreciate the nuances of the story.
Wow. You are so right on this.
I'm sorry but Joel and Tommy introducing themselves felt forced and very much unlike them. It's true that they have been in Jackson for 4 years but it's also true that Joel has endured 21 years of violence and survival beforehand. Am I supposed to believe a man who was unwilling to let strangers into the car at the beginning of the outbreak is now offering personal information to strangers? That would also suggest that Jackson in 4 years has had absolutely no problems, skirmishes or violent disagreements with other people, groups or factions. Why? We know in the first game that the settlement has been attacked, we had to defend the place with Tommy from a group of invaders. Then when they enter the mansion in part 2, both Joel and Tommy are so relaxed and nonchalant, one of them is lounging at the bar ready to make a martini while the other positions himself, dead centre in the middle of the group, ready to be pounced upon. Joel's death or murder is not an issue, it's how they delivered and executed the scene and slight build up that is a big issue for me.
Cheers for the reply! I see what you're saying but it still doesn't work for me. Again as you said the town is safe, but why? I can understand the town being safe from friendly people and fellow Jacksonians but it strongly implies that they have had no issues at all with anyone on the periphery of the settlement. That is incredible in a world where we know that people often are more dangerous than the infected themselves. It would be far more believable to me if they had some kind of precautionary measure that if they encountered strangers on their patrols they would simply offer a pseudo name just in case shit hits the fan. Think about this also. When Tommy and Joel encounter Abby for the first time and Tommy offers their names, doesn't that feel a little odd? Watch that scene again, it feels forced because it is. They are trying to make that murder scene work and for me it just doesn't. It wouldn't be so much of an issue if it didn't lead to such a gigantic disaster but because it does it highlights these little small betrayals of the essence of the brothers' characters even more. For me everything in this game other than the story is world class, I feel like they bit off more than they could chew and they weren't able to pull it off : (
Red Beard Karim Joel’s death was tragic! I get you man no worries. I actually felt like I lost someone in my life. No game has done that for me before. I think it’s a well written story that it’s ok not to like because the game is designed to break you and feel pain. I’m actually on my second play through!
I think they should have precautionary measures for meeting strangers, that’s a good idea, but pseudo names seems odd because most jacksoners aren’t known personally to outsiders so it’d make no difference if people gave false names (except for Joel and tommy). They were a bit busy with the horde though and I don’t think they had much of a choice other than to trust abby at the time. The way tommy shares their names isn’t perfect but I’m glad naughty dog went that way so Abby (and the player) could fight alongside Joel before he died. Also people weren’t meant to know Joel was going to die so having them seem like they were going to be allies was cool I think. All this is my opinion though, I don’t have a problem with you thinking otherwise
Also Joel was stupid to stand in the middle. Even if they were friendly, it’s a weird way to have a chat spinning around. Think that was done more for the cinematography, like for how the camera circles around Joel a bit
@@redbeardkarim1761 I ended up watching that scene a few times where Tommy introduces himself and Joel to Abby that first time around. The perspective I got was that he was calming down Abby, whether she actually needed it or not. After all, they just rescued someone around Ellie's age from certain death in the middle of a blizzard while a hoard was coming after them. If it feels forced, it's probably because he picked it up from Maria, who knows already how to talk to people and deescalate situations, as shown between Ellie and Seth, and the short moment she wanted to make sure Ellie and Joel weren't so distant. He's clearly not the better one at this out of the two. I could be reading into it too deeply, but I feel it was a justified scene, strengthened from the reinforcement of seeing Jackson's more friendly policy in terms of strangers.
I love the game and think it’s a masterpiece there are things that’s questionable but I that’s how it’s intended to feel I love it but it bothered me that Ellie never gave her shoes any breathing space even in the flashbacks like it makes me sad
Any piece of art is going to get hate but in my opinion this game was a masterpiece and will be talked about for years as one of the best and generation defining games
I do doubt that, I would not call it "One of the best games in this generation" the first game deserves that more than this, everyone loves the first game but this one has split the fanbase so I do not really see alot of people remembering this one
@@tarn2992 The first game was better than this one I'm not gonna lie and it was spoken about for a long time and still is as one of the best games ever but this game too will be spoken about as much as the previous one. Maybe not for the same reasons tho.
Oh it'll be remembered all right...
Thanks for this video, I feel the same way about almost everything said. There is so much negative feed back for this story, I'm grateful to hear someone reinforce the positive experience I had. I thought the ending had a lot to offer. I've lost a lot in my life and I relate to both protagonist's fate. As a musician, the Idea of a guitar player losing their fingers is particularly challenging for me and just made me kinda miserable. But I appreciate the ending and I'm satisfied.
"more smoother", "more smaller" please bro.....please stop
Be nice bro lol
APG fantastic review!! I couldn't have put it better!!
Also of importance was Dina's bracelet at the end, when she came back for Joel's guitar!!! Notice how she didn't yell out for Dina or JJ. This means that Dina may have forgiven Ellie, because she is wearing it in the final scene when she tried to play the guitar. A lot of people missed it because they were focused on her missing fingers. She has empathy and love inside her. There’s hope for Ellie, after all.
I loved the game, it’s every bit the masterpiece as the first game as far as I’m concerned, we all knew Joel was gonna die, not near the end or the middle but early on, it was marketed as a revenge story, Joel’s murder was the catalyst the kicked off the story so of course it was early, I love the character of Joel & I had zero issues with how he died cause it was staying true to the world the first game set up, that this world is brutal, swift & without mercy at times...
I don’t care who disagrees but everyone saying Joel robbed the world of a cure must be physics because what proof do we have that it even would have worked, cause one doctor said said so, news flash doctors aren’t perfect, until Ellie is back on that table & having the procedure we don’t know anything for a fact...
I also found my excitement for the game diminish once the switch to Abby happens halfway through but midway through Abbys day one, I got onboard & liked what Naughty dog was trying to do...
For those angry that a “revenge story” ends without revenge then I think you missed the message of the game , revenge was the plot but not the story, the story was about rage, anger, obsession & how that obsession can become more important then the most important thing in your life... and it’s about forgiveness...
Again I loved this game & I thought the pacing was perfect intermixing flashbacks after big set piece moments, they were nice change of pace moments. For me this is without question my personal GOTY, maybe of the PS4 generation.
Loved the review bro, really happy you loved the game like i did! Keep it up
I honestly like part 2 more then part 1 because i was more invested it. I played the first one and i loved that but fhe continuation of the masterpiece that was the first game just made me fall even more in love with this world and this story
Thank you so much for echoing my thoughts on this game.
This game is truly a masterpiece on many different levels.
The graphics are so beautiful and detailed.. . The amount of attention to detail is breathtaking....
The gameplay is also awesome... the sheer number of enemies to face and exploration is fantastic.
Of course much attention is centred on the storyline.... I totally agree with you... this game IS ahead of it's time. I say BRAVO to Naughty Dog for having the courage to make a story that really invoked peoples feelings deeply. If a game can do that, then it's a triumph... wake up and smell the coffee for all those that would have been happy with a "safe" storyline..... this game, or should I say life experience gives so much more....
Another point I totally agree with you about is that in time, people will come to appreciate this masterpiece.
You know it's really easy to knock a game...its a cheap pop at someone's work.... it's a hell of a lot more difficult to deliver something that evokes so much passion which Last Of Us Part 2 clearly does.
Thank you for your detailed review.

Gotta agree, this is a masterpiece. 10/10 for me. I think this will be the Empire Strikes Back of the Last of Us franchise: hated at first but everyone grew to love it and it became one of the most beloved movies of all time.
No joke after I beat the game I am distancing myself from the discourse of this game. I’ve never seen one game ultimately break social media like this one has and it’s absolutely pathetic at this point 🤦♂️
I always hated When my teacher said the they wanted to give me an A, But they gave my an B so i had something to surpass, can’t we just appreciate this amazing piece of art and give it a 10.
Naughty dog is brilliant how they put this story together a lot of people butt hurt cause Joel get killed. I think that made this whole story line perfect this game was worth the wait its a master piece i had cold chills through out the whole game. Perfect 10 for me
I hear a lot of complaints about how “out of character” he was and I don’t get it
@Ryan Howe Joel was the only character that was out of character, everyone else seemed fine..
@@deez6102 he wasn't out of character.
They way you think he should've acted would've been out of character for him
I loved every moment...the detailed I liked most was Abby's facial expressions when she killed Joel from her perspective, look it closer, you can see her face she doesn't fully know what to think, it doesn't seem right with her, yes she got what wanted, but inside you can see she regrets it, I thought Laura Bailey nailed that part, that acting, those facial expression.
I find the game trully amazing! It brings you a lot of series of emotions. I think most of the people who hate it, it's because joel's death. They are in denial. It is hard for such a lovable character to have died unheroicly. If it's Ellie who had died and Joel goes into the revenge killing streak, they would love everything about this game. Designs, gameplay, cinematography are all top notch. It is like watching a movie but playing. For me, I played this game with so much hate and then forgiveness at the end. It is truly a flawed masterpiece.
Thank you for a fair review, I enjoy your channel! Keep up the good work, I’m looking forward to your cyberpunk 2077 videos! Did you see the reviews of the ones who played for 5 hours? The studio put out there own episode, let us know what you think
I can't wait to talk about cyberpunk and Ghost of tsushima very soon!
Great review! I finished this game in 2.5days. It was a lot to take in. It sucked that some major plot points, like Joel’s death and abbys reason for killing Joel, were spoiled for me just by accidentally seeing some meme and title on UA-cam. Didn’t see the leaks but just those small glimpses were enough for me to have some sense of what would happen in the story. It would’ve been a total shock and more satisfying to know why did Abby kill Joel on my own. Other than that, I thought the story was great. It’s really thought provoking. Truly a theme about cycle of violence, and the only way to break that cycle is through forgiveness. It takes both Abby and Ellie to forgive in order to end the cycle.
The negatives. I felt that Dina and Ellie relationship was rushed. On the patrol day ellie wasn’t sure about dina kissing her. She tried not to think too much of it. However, all it took was some weed for them to be intimate towards each other. Also felt weird for Ellie just to reveal her immunity to Dina right after their “fun activity”. Second thing that I did not like is the switch to playing as Abby in Seattle day 1 after Abby and Ellie face off. I was on the edge of my seat when Abby went to look for Ellie at the theatre, but then had to put a brake when the game forced me to play as Abby. When I played as Abby I really had to remember what Ellie did in Seattle for the past 3 days. In my opinion, it’d would’ve been better if we got to play Abby Seattle day 1 first, then switch over to Ellie day 1, then back to Abby day 2, and so on. By doing that way at least I can keep track of who’s doing what and make the deaths of side characters more impactful.
For me, some of the memorable and powerful scenes in this game are the museum, the final flashback of Joel and Ellie, fighting ellie as Abby, and the ending scene. The museum scene made me cry out of happiness. I could really feel how much Joel really cared for Ellie. When he gave ellie that tape, I totally lost it. It hurt to know that Joel was out of Ellie’s life for good. As for the fight against Ellie, I’ve never felt so conflicted ever in a video game. I felt sick to my stomach as I was forced to beat Ellie up. I really thought the scene where Ellie strangles someone at the end of the story trailer was Abby strangling Ellie (based on the fact they changed some of the cutscenes in the story trailer to hide the story). I felt numb. Don’t think a game has ever made me feel numb and sick to my stomach. Oh god the final flashback, this scene no matter how many times I watch it I still get emotional. Just the fact that Joel got killed off the following day ellie had decided to forgive him truly broke me emotionally. The way Ashley’s voice breaks as she says “I’d like to try” and Troy’s reply of “I’d like that”.. this is too much to handle. I don’t cry that easily but this scene gets me every time. Finally the ending, so heartbreaking to see Ellie lose everything (Dina, jj, Jessie, ability to play guitar - the main connection between Joel and Ellie) and end up being alone, what she fears the most.
If there’s a third part, I really hope ellie finds happiness. Her dying in part 3 will make me extremely sad.
I dont know why people hate joel's death and ending scene... both of these scenes are just most breaking scenes of the entire game, ashley was on fire in joel's death scene... it was well crafted... in the ending, the way ellie leaves all her stuff in the farm house and moves on with an uncertain future is one of the most heart breaking scenes ever.
I think the story is structured in the way it is to give the player or viewer the perspective of living with ptsd. I have a form of ptsd myself and I do suffer from very random flashbacks and nightmares. The skipping back and forth in time I thought perfectly emulated how someone with trauma might experience time. I also think the outcome between the final fight with ellie and abby is accurate to how someone with trauma might react. Ellie doesn't need to kill abby for revenge, she already got revenge by killing all of abby's friends. The only reason she even goes back for abby is because she has a ptsd flashback with jj at the farm. When ellie has abby's head underwater, ellie finally has control over abby who ellie probably views as more of a symbol than an actual human. Trauma affects people by stripping them of their agency and capacity for self control, ellie being able to yield that power over abby is the spark that finally allows ellie to let go.
I think Abby's story had a lot to do with the main plot. She is having her redemption arc
I just finished today.. My thought is The story is bad if you looking for more TLOU 1.
The story is good if you understanding that there is no heroes or villains all just want to survive according to law of groups
abby killing joel was just surviving? ellie traveling across the country to kill the person that killed her surrogate father is just surviving?
surviving isnt part of part 2
@@NTTofMistery yes i forgot to mention that if you following revenge you will lose everything. This is a main point of the story too.
The biggest flaw of the game is Ellie and Dina first act: 3/4 bland and repetitive. Also- seeing the destination point on the horizon (a building/bridge etc) and taking 3-5 times more time as normal to reach it. It felt artificial and sometimes repetitive. On the other hand- the number of empty buildings is also staggering- basically, loot and shut up. No tension.
Finally-Ellie comes out as an egoistical character- resenting Joel for resting alive, killing 100 people who did nothing to her, rejecting happiness and peace at heart etc. The list is pretty long.
All in all it is truly a flawed masterpiece.
This video made me subscribe to you. This video was the proof that Naughty Dog never made a bad game. This was their first story that wasn't for everyone. Naughty Dog games always blow me away, because they detailed so many things in every game that it made me cry. I want them to keep doing games because I never see better gameplay, facial animations, acting, graphics, acessibilities, environment, music, sound, AI in every game. I'm glad that they come this far with their games.
This game broke my heart as well. Story wise maybe 3rd or 4th best story in video games but i still believe this is a masterpiece. Fans were unfair to this game, good thing i totally stopped social media after the leaks so the shock factor was there for me when joel died, it was a emotional rollercoaster. At the end i did not want ellie to kill abby. People will appreciate this game after few years. It just sad that due to the backlash we might not get a third game.
Im just 1/3rd in the video but that Joel/Sarah parallel with the watch and guitar is SPOT ON! never thought of that! See there’s so much to uncover with this game man :)
Glad you enjoyed it man . In my opinion the story could've been better but other than that it's really good.
I NOT A HATER but whoever calls this game a masterpiece needs to stop. This games suffer from many many flaws and naughty dog need to be called out on it, not harrased as they are currently. This game is good and i respect what naughty dog decided to go for but the execution of many scences felt forced and dragged. the gameplay was rather repetitive aswell but all in all this is a good game if u never played the first game. this games deserves to be a stand alone and truly (IN MY OPINION) this games does not deserve the last of us title would like to hear what u think of my opinion AP and others
Truly intelligent comment right here. This game is far from a masterpiece unlike the first. Yes it does make the player depressed but the writing and execution was mediocre to say the most
@@justathan8257 lol it made me fucking depressed to the point where I decided to stop playing the game and uninstall it
OMG A NON TOXIC DECENT HUMAN BEING THAT RESPECTS LIKING THE GAME HAVE MT BABIEEEEES
@@tarn2992 I feel u man as a person who plays game for enjoyment this was a horrible experience for me
I do consider this a flawed masterpiece just like rdr2. It has problems that keep from being perfect but you can’t Denise that the stuff it does right it does better than most game on the market
this game is a true master piece. I think every sections and pacing, placement are perfect, specially the Abby section. cuz Abby sections are so tense, I really needed those flash backs and walks to take a breahter.
for me, who actually played the first game, I knew Joel had it coming. because part 1 had a BAD ending, Joel killed Abby's father which doomed the humanity, firelies are gone, Joel lie to Ellie and Ellie knows it. So Joel's death is sudden but just. but in part 2 ending, Ellie spared Abby, Ellie forgived Joel, and the fireflies are back, it actually its a good ending.
and I also like Naughty Dog retcon alot of firefly's stuff, first the vaccine will 100% work, which made Joel looks even worse, 2nd they portraied the fireflies having a higher calling than the others, a noble cause different from everyone else. they knew they did alot of horrific things, some are beyond redemption, but all in the name of saving humanity. Owen was always a firefly, through his actions (not the cheating on his gf part), they made fireflies look like the light of humanity. (which is why whenever there is a firefly symbol, always has light on it or beside it).
I think a lot of people had this game ruined by the leaks and the anti-hype. Once they made up their minds there was no coming back.
One of the biggest complaints I see for this game is that people have “plot armor” which is funny because Joel and Ellie (sometimes) have plot armor in the first game especially Joel. While I do like the scene where he gets impaled with that rusty rebar let’s be honest he should be dead. While I thought the first game had a tighter story in terms of pretty much scale and everything I really did enjoy this game. I don’t use the terms “get woke, go broke” because that phrase has been flawed multiple times lol. What’s even funnier is that there’s nothing really “woke” in it 😂
It’s a shame. The go woke, go broke community just believe whatever fits their agenda, even if it might not be true. And like you said. There is nothing “woke” in this, but try convincing those from that community. They rather believe whatever toxic youtuber, that spreads this hate for ad revenue, than the actual facts. Crazy world we live in 🤷🏻♂️
AP GAMING yeah it’s dumb and to top it all off most of them haven’t even played it and literally watched two things and formed an opinion off that 🤦♂️ this is why gamers are made fun of
I wouldn’t say that either, though I do think they dipped in it a smidge with the “bigot sandwich” but even then that was just a throwaway line
Ryan Howe yeah when I heard that I was “maybe the writing is what they say it is” thankfully it got better lol
Yeah, it got better almost immediately.
I also give the game strong props for not having say: either Ellie or Dina bring up their orientation or anyone else, except Seth, but even then; that was just Seth being a dick, while Jessie later in the game just uses this “not into Asians?” Joke
It would’ve been “woke/SJW” if it did that
Its a brave and mature story writing..but im afraid that people destroy this story.so much hate that i feel bad for nd..its not a bad game at all.
A perfect critique. I was just like you that throughout I was like okay naughty dog I get what tricks you're pulling on us the players and I also thought it was messy and relied on coincidences too much. But humans make mistakes and that is present at every turn in here and most didn't like the way it went. Personally this was by far the best game I've ever played and hats off to naughty dog. Never will doubt you again
I really appreciate your work on this video. I'll admit I played the first game a couple years ago remastered on ps4 and liked it.. Loved the story and wanted to get the second... However I heard all the backlash and let it cloud my opinion for buying it.... I ended up watching so many peoples play throughs that I think I've seen the game 10 times through and it broke my heart so many times... I wish I had never listened to spoilers and just bought the game up front.... I still had the experience of watching some amazing UA-camrs play through it and they were so emotional during it that it made my experience so much better.... I think that people that hate on the game only because its not what they wanted or expected and they reject seeing a narrative that forces you to see things from both sides..... Me personally I loved it so much and still want to buy it just to have, even though I've seen it played through a hundred times.... The emotions and feelings this game pulls from you shows what a masterpiece it really is... I don't want a game I'll play and forget about in a week... A year after release nearly and it still resonates with me.... 10/10
i just finished this game. This story is a deconstruction of the "revenge story" genre. it's great fun watching a protagonist hack through hordes of minions to get to the guy who killed his dog. But these stories usually don't explain the emotional price you have to get revenge. That's where this game shines. Getting revenge hurts you just about as much as the person you exact revenge upon. Maybe more because you are still alive and left to deal with the mental anguish that comes along with it.
This is a fantastic review. This sequel was terrible in the way that it didn't follow the classic pattern. Technically, it should have been another adventure with Ellie and Joel. I've seen people saying that if TLOU Part 2 was a single title on it's own, it would have been fine. So there you go. I get the argument, but I don't think it's totally fair. It shows that people truly like to stay in their confort zone. As much as I loved this game, I don't considere it a masterpiece, (because in the classic format, it fails completely), but rather an amazing experience, that's not for everyone. It was bold in it's writting choices, doesn't go for the old formulas that we all know work and love. So yeah, I feel like some of the people who hated the game just chose to stay in their confort zone and didn't give it a fair chance, which is not a good thing... But I get it, I guess I can't judge people for that. It's human nature.
Great review AP. I did feel like the editing was a bit odd specifically during the Abby story of the game. If it was reorganized I think fans would be alright with the idea of playing as Abby first then play as Ellie and seek revenge. But besides that, I loved it.
I love this game as it is i really do , but i also have another view to it as u said ,
just 2 minor changes ,
interchange the playthroughs ,
and advertise this game as only abby's game and no mention of joel and ellie throughout the ads or promotion of this game , no joel no ellie , we play the game starting as abby killing someone and we don't know who it is , the story follows it's route , make all her friends more interesting and invested with us ,and make us invested in the story of these 2 groups , their war , their beliefs , issac and "feel her love woman". also , show she is having ptsd after achieving to kill the person but not showing us what it is we follow the story we invest ourselves in abby and ger friends more and more we route for them at the same time there is this unknown threat always lying on them lying wlf's people dying and her friends dying in background , we don't know wgo it is it's just mystery to us the most shocking thing we can assume that it's joel which he is clearly not , we don't see that tommy is the sniper that killed manny , we don't see how owen and mel died and we are just so much invested in lev yara and abby , and also with a lil more character development and care we feel shocked when we see that owen is just lying on the ground shot like that , we see abby as our lead cut back to the theatre, here instead of tommy jessie is there , like jesse and tommy intercgange places , tommy and ellie runs through the door and abby shoots at tommy at her shoulder or something and he is just lying there and then we feel this rage inside who it is , is it joel as we just saw tommy and we see it's fucking ellie , cut back to 4 years earlier we saw everything play out from first lou but after that we see aftermath of what joel did to abby , then 4 years later , we wake up as ellie and everything turns out the way it was , even though we emphasized with abby we still wanna kill her , we forget about lev , yara and her devt and we just keep on our murder rampage , until we cut back to that theatre , everything occurs exactly the same way and seeing lev with abby and just giving us that joel and ellie vibes again would be just so heart wrentching to see these two fight and would just also erase so much backlash against it
just saying , i still love the original take they went with and i loved the game , just presenting my opinion to flush our emotions more out and remove the backlash against the game
They really did pull a whole G I JOE on us
There is no good reason to hate this game. There’s no good reason to hate anything, period….but some of us will anyway and that’s kind of the point in this game.
Yep no good reason not like having the main character from the last game beaten with a golf club early in when advertisement lied by making it seem he would play a bigger part in the story yeah don’t be surprised when some people feel like they was robbed
Graphix: NEXT GEN
3 years later...
ND:TLOU 2 REMASTERED
Graphix: SICKO_MODE:ON
Ellie had the best story aspects and abby had the best gameplay aspects which is why i think abby started to grow on me. I think naughty dog wanted to break emersion at first and try to gain it back. I personally didnt care about the abby flashbacks but i respect that they added them. Also the rat king scared me so much. I hated mel. Lev is my favorite character in the second half. This game hit me on an emotional level. I passed the controller to my brother when we had to fight ellie but he couldnt beat it so i had to do it. This game is definitely ahead of its time like you said and maybe thats why people dont like it aside from the joels death scene part
I think my biggest problem with the game is that the Abby half of the game overstays its welcome. It gets to the point where I'm like "ok you made your point, let's get back to the main game" the game deffinately has its issues but it's still good. On paper the game is great but the execution and some rushed plot points hold it back for me.
Also I have to say it was cheesy when Abby said "Joel Miller" I can see the memes coming lol.
To be fair the first game had many moments of cheesy dialogue...
27:19 Thank you! I'm really happy I'm not the only one who thought of that
And people like to compare it to the “ain’t even hurt” scene. But there’s a clear difference; that guy from the first game was staging that whole thing, Abby didn’t set up an entire horde of infected... IN THE BLIZZARD!! It was a hairy situation that all 3 of them were in, it’s not even the same thing
For me The Last of Us /Part2 is the best game of all time!!! It's more than a game.
I did what I always do with a video game, I played it myself. One of the best games ever, did they lied to us or misguided us, yes , but I don't care. I experienced a lot of feeling , that I never have had before with a game. And for that it makes the game awesome.
Thank you so much bcz of you i realized why so much hate thank you
For me, TLOU Part 1 & 2 are GOAT. Period. 10/10. They are different in narrative with different direction but was delivered masterfully.
The game is not bad. Gameplay is serviceable, story is fine, just the pacing and narrative structure is problematic. I think anyone giving it between a 5,6,7, or 8 out of 10 is pretty fair. It's not great, but there is no need to trash it.
I LOVE YOU JOEL
It makes me happy to hear that more and more people are starting to see what Naughty Dog was hoping to accomplish with Part II. I pretty much have an almost identical opinion about this game as you do. While it has its flaws, it truly was a bold and ambitious game that is certainly not going to be what everyone will like. I never understood the people who went out of their way to spend a good chunk of their time fabricating the hate around the game. Whether it has something to do with the working conditions Naughty Dog was forcing on their employees, or the people who claimed that it was woke or pushing an agenda. Don't get me wrong, it's horrible for a company to force crunch on employees but what I will say is that Naughty Dog isn't the only company notorious for this. Rockstar was met with backlash for forcing overtime when Red Dead 2 was getting close to release and recently, it was revealed that CD Projekt Red has now enforced 6 day work weeks for the sake of getting Cyberpunk 2077 complete for its release.
I, especially, was not happy to hear that Laura Bailey, Neil Druckmann, and even members of the development team were getting death threats for this game. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when your opinions involve verbally attacking the people who worked on the game or people who said they like it, that is where they go too far.
I would like to say that you did a great job making this video and this video alone convinced me to subscribe to your channel and so I look forward to whatever you will offer in the future. Have a good one.
I hate fanbases, they’re either outrageously black and white or inexcusably toxic
The biggest and i personaly the biggest problem was controversal story. I know that some people loved iz and other hated it and that many People face bad review and they didnt even watch the game, they just read the spoilers and they were thinking Like they know everything and others are stupid because they watched it or played it. I mean i was furious too when i saw the spoilers, but i gave it a chance. To me story wasnt half as the first one to make it clear. But on mine opinion it wasnt bad and garbage. Expecialy the game wasnt because they did other stuff almost perfect. I know that in Naughty dog games story and characters are the biggest element, but its not Like all of it. There is still gameplay, atmosphere, music, sound, how game is long... Its just not fair to sh** at the whole game just because of the story, and many People hated the story and gave the worst rating and comment. I didnt Like the certain stuff in the story but still didnt hated the full package. In the end i really think its worth playing, expecialy if its on Sale or if can be borrowed from a friend.
I liked the game alot. I just can't stomach the horse and dog killings.
I also wonder if Abby is also immune. Didn't she get bit at the end of the game? Her father never answered when asked "what if it were Abby that was immune". 🤔 Do I see a part 3?
I absolutely adored The Last of Us Part II (and I'm definitely a simp for Abby, even though I don't justify her actions). I adored the story even though, I agree that it feels messy, especially of you're playing for the first time. I'm not too into gaming or gaming news, so Abby killing Joel did come as a surprise for me. But I'm used to reading a lot, watching series, and even writing (mainly fanfiction), so I kind of suspected Abby was looking for Joel, but I didn't expect her to kill him, that impacted me a lot and, at first, I hated her, but after playing her arc I understood her and, while playing her arc, started to fall in love with her because of how she evolved. I agree with you that the ending was great, it was powerful but, for me, the first time I played, it felt incomplete. That's what I disliked about it. I mean, this group in Santa Barbara, we don't know much about them and I think they could have given us more details about them through the collectible notes or something to understand their reason to be. When in Seattle, we got to know the WLF and the Seraphites quite in-depth, I think a little more depth on this last group was needed, but that's probably me. I was also quite taken by surprise when Ellie came back to the farmhouse and it was empty and there were no signs of where Dina and J.J. went. Probably that's the main reason I felt it incomplete, where did they go? And why did Dina decide to leave? Idk man, I just... I needed some more context, some extra details, something more. That's pretty much the only thing I disliked about the ending, outside of that, I loved the game (maybe because, personally, I'm a huge fan of Angst and this game is just pure Angst). Idk, the game is just a story that I grew to love, that took me by surprise (because the only news I had about it were its release and the hate it received), and that pained me like any good Angst story. That without mentioning the complexity of the characters, which made them feel so human, so real that it's a joy, for me, to sit down and analyze them (even though I don't have anyone to talk about those analyses).
Sorry for the long comment, which was mostly disorganized hahaha. I usually abstain from leaving UA-cam comments (especially after receiving notifications of replies to comments I made so long ago I even forgot I posted them). But I felt the need to share my thoughts on this. Anyway, thank you for reading, to anyone who decided to read it, and I hope you're having a nice day.
The thing is, Abby and her group did save Joel and Tommy from the horde of infected.
Idk why the haters ignore that key detail
They also seem to ignore that they were all being chased by that same horde in a blizzard
The setup please

Fantastic well analysed underrated game review just subscribed.... i’ve played the game and this might be an unpopular opinion... I loved it.. I avoided the leaks I don’t know why people were pissed off but the only option I could think of is that they made Ellie a lesbian (I wouldn’t be surprised but that’s a stupid reason..) but that wasn’t the case.. now I played the game I was like... okay now I can see why.. but I feel like those leaks ruined this game reputation and what Neil was going for.. kept to his word in the interview in 2016 it won’t be anything like the first game it will be in a completely different direction and I appreciate that this game it’s one of a kind! I love the first game it’s one of my favourites and I truly love the sequel if people don’t like it that’s perfectly fine but I don’t attack the actors or actresses or the game developers or the director or the writers just be civil with your opinions and honest... don’t be an idiot... while I would like to see more of Joe and Ellie together and maybe had a bit more time with them together before his death but I feel like it was a messy execution of Joel death but it was handled pretty well especially when you continue to play the game more you can see what this game is trying to do and go for near the end!The graphics are mind blowing and truly remarkable and the acting is all great and the gameplay is still impressive and also improved and great!
The characters are still great are they written out of character? My opinion no... While I would want more to their backgrounds and motivations that’s not to say the motivations is terrible it’s just feels a bit rushed but I like this direction you can either love it or hate it... as for Abby? I thought she was okay how motivation might seemed abit eh? But yeah.. so it was uncalled for actress to get undeserved hate she was just doing her job...
Game how ends is it perfect? Yes and no it’s a bittersweet depressing also emotional happy in a way... it actually got emotional and I’m cold hearted bastard!..
The music is still beautiful as always!
Killing zombies and even boss battles are still great as always!
No I do agree with the fans being angry with naughty dog and Neil not handing the backlash with fans saying their Texas and all that stuff (maybe they were but just respond like this) ‘just say it is what it is I apologise it wasn’t the game you wanted but I’m proud of our efforts and we respect the fans we just wanted to step out the box’ but Critics loved it.. that shouldn’t be a problem it’s an opinion..
So... ‘The Last of Us Part II’ it’s not perfect but it’s a flawed masterpiece in its own right the first one is still a masterpiece in its own right and still a amazing game and this one for me is a worthy sequel! I’m sure over time people will appreciate the game even more! As for a third game who knows?
The revenge story isn’t perfect well executed but I feel like the way the story was told and the characters were handle it was perfect enough... not your typical sequel that you see in every generic game it’s real and dark and depressing and beautiful and emotional and sad and brutal... love it.
Honestly fantastic review you deserve so much more subs and views! Keep safe and positive.
didn't she play and sing "take on me" in the music store ? and not the song joel sang for her
First she sang Joel’s song, then take on me to Dina when she Dina came into the room.
I totally agree mate. I've recorded my gameplay too. Wish I could work with u, I'd Learn alot
Good review
I like where they're trying to go with the story with the whole revenge plot, but i don't like how they executed it. The fact that we have to play as abby for 10 hours+ is just outrageous, even after abby killed joel they expect us to give sympathy for her? Then we get to fight ellie as abby, are you fucking kidding me? The only character i liked from this game is probably lev, cause he was actually decent than any other character in the game, if it wasn't for him, abby would've got a double kill or triple if you count ellie. Then in the end ellie lives with dina in a farmhouse with beautiful scenery and that should be the end of the game. But then ellie goes out for revenge again, and revenge wasn't even achieved, she spared abby in the end, and losing her fingers in the process and now she couldn't play the guitar and everyone left her all alone. I know it's the consequences of revenge and that's what the game is trying to tell that revenge is bad, it never end well for anyone but it could've been alot better than this.
I fear that nd never make this type of story anymore because of the hate..they now just make simple story games like a good man and a bad man..good man kill bad man..every body hapy..like that..i fear i m going to loose good creative story because some idiot, dumb fans and haters.i hope you understand what i want to say here.
