    When I was 3 years old I had my tonsils out at Children’s Hospital in Washington DC. In the lobby was a massive miniature snow scene with ponds and skaters, animals, houses, etc. that was it for me. I’m now 86 and have been making, collecting, and selling miniatures right up till today. Like you, my father nurtured my mini fascination and hand built my first dollhouse when I was 9. It was enormous with hand etched bricks and hand cut roof shingles. The windows even had glass though I imagine it was not in scale. But I thought it was beyond beautiful. My mother hand embroidered the linens and she made the accessories while Daddy made all the furniture. Back then there were few minis available to buy and needless to say, no internet so all of the contents were hand made. We moved out of the country when I was 17 and when we returned we found my dollhouse had been destroyed while in a storage facility. I was devastated. While I’m sure it would have looked very crude compared to today’s minis, I would give anything to have that house again but will never forget the love that built it. So I share your passion and respect and fascination for all things mini. Enjoying my journey with you.

    🥰 Please let the residents know how much we appreciate their allowing us to tour their beautiful home and taking the time to let us meet them! The parlor is beautiful. I love the upholstery and the photos. And the red lamp. And the owl. And that delicate carved table. And, well, pretty much everything! You did an amazing job making repairs and redecorating after the fire.

    The original flooring is glorious. I don't know if the way it looks so real and worn is your painting technique or the result of the fire but it looks really fantastic. Also, your clock is marvelous...I would actually buy that clock if I saw it on a miniatures site. Lastly, solving the problem of a missing staircase with a false door is a great idea. Thanks for the videos, Miss Gretchen.

      Hi there Dollhouse girl 7153!!! Thank you the floor is actually look really worn and old is because the doll house is almost 50 years old 🤭😅! Those popsicle stick floors have seen many moons I did them in spring 1978 😂! The original stain was brown shoe Polish! Then one year I painted it, and then another stripped it with lacquer thinner!! It looks old and worn because it's been through a lot! The fire didn't get to the floor in the parlor it burned the walls and ceiling. It have several pictures on Instagram. Your comment about my little clock is really kind thank you! ☺️ 💖I appreciate you for watching!!

    You have a lovely dollhouse! My first one was a log cabin that my daddy built for me. It was made to look like my great aunt and uncle's log cabin that they built when they were first married. How ironic that the fireside tools survived the fire, but the parlour looks so lovely and fancy with its Victorian style furniture! OK, off to the next video I go! Really lovely again. I am glad you backed up the camera so we could see how you matched the wallpaper for each room and put in curtains. That's a whole other level of effort that isn't necessary on all dollhouses. So, why did you have candies in your dollhouse? That must have been so scary. I remember playing with candles and wax and making wicks out of yarn, but I played in a tv dinner tray back when they were still metal. I had some close calls, really wasn't safe. Maybe your house could use a fire extinguisher?

    • @littlegretchensworkshop7665
      @littlegretchensworkshop7665  Рік тому

      IKR!!! I am truly glad we HAD a FIre Extinguisher back then! It could have been really AWFUL much worse than it was. I am Very Grateful. Recovering Soul, the Truth is I just wanted LIGHTS!. My Dollhouse didn't have electricity. Battery powered lights had not been invented yet for Dollhouses. I felt birthday candles were the perfect size. Not considering everything was WOOD, COTTON and PLASTIC! I just wanted to see it LIT up for just a little While.....and yeah so there is that. It was "LIT" all right SMH.....
