It makes me curious though. If Twitch made these mistakes as a last-ditch effort to reduce losses, how sustainable/scalable is Kick’s current strategy? Twitch is backed by Amazon, which, I assume, would allow them to store and distribute content at a discounted price via AWS. If Twitch is (was?) at the top of the streaming industry, then achieving the annual growth that investors expect is gonna be a near impossible task, which would explain their recent actions a lot. If it were merely down to profitability, I have no doubt that Amazon would keep sinking money into Twitch just as a way of quashing any potential competition. But lack of growth? That's what sends the corporate goblins into absolute panic mode.

He may hit live on Twitch to promote KICK streams but I don’t see him streaming on Twitch for the next 2 years. Edit: Yes, they say it’s non-exclusive for the contract, but that’s just a coverup. Ninja's viewers were all temporary. Everyone knew it, even at that time. Xqc has been the biggest streamer for like 5 years now, and no one gave him recognition, neither twitch or the streamer awards or anyone for that matter. Kick was smart and saw the window to get loyal long time twitch veterans to their platform. They also outclassed the revenue split so people would choose to go there. All smart decisions. I would be very surprised if kick didnt absolutely win this battle.

XQC get's 100 million dollars upfront the day the contract enacts, which is soon. He also get's to keep 100% of the 95/5 split on top of the contract money. Nobody is missing anything here, google is free if you want to look into it.

I think his manager made the deal with the motive of his own publicity. And it worked. But xqc will probably never see most of the $100m in his bank account. The manager himself is known among content creators as a slimy con artist.
Kick is taking advantage of twitch implosion while also taking some big steps to get as many users and streamers to the platform by getting big streamers there, big streamers also comes with an audience. As Moist said, none of these 3 (kick, youtube, twitch) are saint is mostly a personal choice. I see it as a chance for smaller streamer to get into streaming and earn more for their work, with the influx of users and streamers it becomes a viable option, however the 95/5 split and the non-exclusive deals may not last forever, it's not easy to keep a streaming platform up so it's possible they will implement different revenue splits ( 95/5 for up to 300 subs, 80/20 between 1k and 10k subs, etc) or they may cut it for everyone. Only time will tell.
I think Kick has the potential of being the new Twitch. The 95/5 split is already a good enough reason for streamers to stream there instead of Twitch.

I just looked up the argument on Twitter and a lot of them fail to realize that kick has no means of making money except gambling. Twitch makes loses at 50/50. Kick with no ads, 95/5 deal, 100m deals signings. There's no way they are making anything close to a profit except you the viewer is the profit.

Here's the very little I can contribute to the whole Twitch vs World debate: at this point Twitch has shown their hand and no big streamer wants to risk being dependent on them going forward. Therefore big streamers will *ONLY* stream on platforms that allow multicast. They'll go to UA-cam, Facebook, etc. and starve Twitch.

Nobody is missing anything here, google is free if you want to look into it.

Before you start thinking he's a crafty operator, consider the fact that xqc took much of this "$100m deal" in kick options, that are in practice worth close to nothing.
I think his manager made the deal with the motive of his own publicity. And it worked. But xqc will probably never see most of the $100m in his bank account.
The manager himself is known among content creators as a slimy con artist.
Kick is taking advantage of twitch implosion while also taking some big steps to get as many users and streamers to the platform by getting big streamers there, big streamers also comes with an audience. As Moist said, none of these 3 (kick, youtube, twitch) are saint is mostly a personal choice. I see it as a chance for smaller streamer to get into streaming and earn more for their work, with the influx of users and streamers it becomes a viable option, however the 95/5 split and the non-exclusive deals may not last forever, it's not easy to keep a streaming platform up so it's possible they will implement different revenue splits ( 95/5 for up to 300 subs, 80/20 between 1k and 10k subs, etc) or they may cut it for everyone. Only time will tell.

Honestly, if all is accurate...Insane! And a good sign for anyone still interested in streaming as a career in light of all the cutbacks around podding, for example.
Kick has to be massively over leveraged! Massive investments being made over such short contracts and absolutely no way they are close to being in the black in such a short time. They are on a crash course... and I hope it works! Has to be a long term play/leap of faith for loyalty. No other model makes sense...The issue is that Amazon/Twitch will have the cash to buy all these guys back the second they realize the value in the near future. If they are smart, they will start now. Would wager the Twitch CEO is going to be stepping down in the next year also. Going to be a very, VERY, interesting next 5-10 years for top streamers. Once again, anyone interested I would highly encourage to get into it ASAP and start building a base.

The Parallels between Twitch and Blockbuster are astounding. I'm surprised Charlie didn't use that as a comparison; a company that was at the top of it's game making a series of terrible decisions that competitors took advantage of and are now destroying them at their own game.

It's almost as much of an own goal as Yahoo's decision in the early 2000s to NOT buy Google for one billion dollars, or Sears killing off its mail order catalog just one year before Amazon started business.

it's not really the same though: netflix has a completely different model compared to blockbuster, while kick is the same as twitch but they're a bit nicer to their creators

This is fantastic. Need kick to poach more streamers. Inflated Billion dollar corporations have really been getting butt blasted by their consumers for capitalising on their monopoly and I am HERE for it.

The whole point of Kick is to have less moderation than other streaming sites, you would be removing one of the bigger pros of kick besides the split revenue.
