It's an absolute honour to be able to watch Japanese karate, you guys are so fluid, technical and you're amazing practitioners, I want to come to Japan and study someday there

I've only started commenting on these videos but the power displayed in the knockdowns in kumite speak volumes. Watching the Japanese perform on video clips and at courses encourages me to keep trying to improve my own karate, surely thats the point of studying and training.

@veshkeat Mostly JKA. The first series of clips were taken in the JKA Honbu dojo in Tokyo. At 2:59, the clips are from JKS dojo (Sensei Kagawa). At 4:37, the clips are from the KWF group (Sensei Yahara). At 5:33, the clips flip back to JKA Honbu, followed by old 80's JKA tourney clips. At 6:51, the clips move back to old 70's JKA documentary clips, which includes Sensei Kanazawa when he was still with the JKA. 7:29 are clips from JKA tourney in the 90's, 8:01 are clips from JKA 50's and 60's.

A true martial artist is humble...and largely peaceful. This is a great vid. Those who like to criticize I believe don't embody the true spirit of martial arts. The more I train, the more I realize what I don't know. As a karateka I'm humbled by those above me and do my best to assist those belts below me.

I love Karate. I've studied Kali, mma, muy thai, BJJ, TKD, and Kenpo for the last 12 years and Karate suits me the best. Only drawback I would say about Shotokan (and I'm training it formally now) is their hands are too low, that's why some of these guys get knocked out in kumite. I keep the hands in the traditional position in the dojo when we work technique, but when I spar I keep em up...way more practical. Other than that, training karate is a blessing to me

Machida is a Karate fighter and went 16-0 undefeated in the UFC and won the light heavyweight championship. Even UFC journalists credited his karate skills to his success and his ability to confuse his opponents. You can be in denial all you want, but MMA just means "mixed martial arts," and Karate is one of the martial arts making a name for itself in MMA. Karate fighters who add Judo, BJJ, or some form of grappling to their arsenal are fighting and winning in the UFC.

Oh, and for the record, the first Karate vs. Muay Thai match was in Thailand in 1964 when 3 fighters from Mas Oyama's Kyokushin school in Japan faced three Muay Thai boxers. Final score: Japan won by 2 to 1, both winning Karate fighters defeating their opponents by knockout.

Oh, I haven't studied since the 80's, my friend. I went to a karate/judo school where my instructor taught Judo, Goju Ryu, Kenpo, Shotokan, and Arnis. I've been out of it since 1991, but I still encourage anyone who wants to train to do so, as long as they can find a good school and not one of those shopping mall dojos.
