this is my favorite karate video on the web. I really wish I could train at the honbu. I get really good training where I live, but I would still just love to be in the atmosphere of the honbu
I am a Shodan student from Seibukan Dojo, in Japan and the Chinese Boxing Connection. This is an excelent review of the past hundred years of Shotokan. I love this art, it is a part of my soul. Thank you, Karateqigongyoga, for this upload.
Hi I'm 20 years old and I've been practicing Karate since I was 12 years old, I've been a 1st Kyu Brown Belt for four years now and I'm considering going for my Black Belt next year. It's an absolute honour to be able to watch Japanese karate, you guys are so fluid, technical and you're amazing practitioners, I want to come to Japan and study someday there
I've only started commenting on these videos but the power displayed in the knockdowns in kumite speak volumes. Watching the Japanese perform on video clips and at courses encourages me to keep trying to improve my own karate, surely thats the point of studying and training.
This is just amazing, and the dojo is beautiful. Shotokan is so powerful. I'm very baby in it, but I love it. The most precious gift I've ever got... Oss
Training under Sasaki Shihan of JKA Philippines was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Powerful yet true to technique, this is JKA style Shotokan.
Wow...great vid! Makes ya proud to train in Shotokan. I especially love the last part of the video that shows the past masters and present practitioners. Osu
I was a part of this beaty of selfcontrol and self awareness. Until one unskilled guy make me spine trauma and I had to leave it. I spent 10 years with Shotokan, it's in my heart, it's in soul, it's in my life. I want to show great respect to all great masters of karate. RAY
ive trained in shotokan for about almost a year now and all i can say is if training in martial arts was a paying job id go everyday for the rest of my life
And I meant was that Tanaka-sensei before the end when you the video hit all of the old classic teachers of JKA. I could also see quite a bit of Mikio Yahara's karate in this video. Very enjoyable!
@veshkeat Mostly JKA. The first series of clips were taken in the JKA Honbu dojo in Tokyo. At 2:59, the clips are from JKS dojo (Sensei Kagawa). At 4:37, the clips are from the KWF group (Sensei Yahara). At 5:33, the clips flip back to JKA Honbu, followed by old 80's JKA tourney clips. At 6:51, the clips move back to old 70's JKA documentary clips, which includes Sensei Kanazawa when he was still with the JKA. 7:29 are clips from JKA tourney in the 90's, 8:01 are clips from JKA 50's and 60's.
Ive seen this video hundred times, and i never got tired to apreciate the beuaty on it. I am a Shito kai man , but I enjoy with naked eyes and not any stile point of view, I just see karate, discipline, respect and beauty
A true martial artist is humble...and largely peaceful. This is a great vid. Those who like to criticize I believe don't embody the true spirit of martial arts. The more I train, the more I realize what I don't know. As a karateka I'm humbled by those above me and do my best to assist those belts below me.
Arígato gozaimas. Wonderful video. High level karate demonstration. Suppose this to be the main JKA Dojo in Tokyo. Love Shotokan Karate. Greetings from Spain.
Great. Finally someone shows that Karate doesn't just consists of Kihon but of Kumite as well! And without ,,making obvious nice games for the camrea'' anyone can see that Karate is a (maybe the most) powerful Fight art(fight sport) in the world! Thank you for this great JKA summary!
Wow!!! These guys are great. This type of (exact) training produces such great fighters. TBut, that is but one aspect of kara-te. It does so much more for people than just making a great fighter... It actually makes a person healthier.
i trained 3year in shorin-ryu. its similar to shoto-kan. im also a MMA fighter and compete in different gyms. it works WELL AND REAL in MMA even in boxing if use correctly. karate has made me a top fighter in several mma/boxing gyms in 6months. karate will always be my main base style. OOSSSSS
Good video love to train SHOTOKAN. My brothers and I have been training with Keoshi Orlando Redwood since the age 7,9 & 10. Im now 39 and in good shape and health apart from that very confident w/all d years of hard training. We are all SenSai's now....Have never regreted it. Dai-Ishi Shotokan Houston,Tx.
Thankyou for sharing this story on the history of martial arts and yes japan is the history of were karate was developed. Yes we have all different types of martial arts , but we all need to remeber and respect the asian countrys for there beuitiful arts .
Because I'm training jujitsu and it has a lot of karate techniques in it, also from time to time we get guests and some are karate teachers...and they are unbelivably fast and accurate in striking.
I love Karate. I've studied Kali, mma, muy thai, BJJ, TKD, and Kenpo for the last 12 years and Karate suits me the best. Only drawback I would say about Shotokan (and I'm training it formally now) is their hands are too low, that's why some of these guys get knocked out in kumite. I keep the hands in the traditional position in the dojo when we work technique, but when I spar I keep em up...way more practical. Other than that, training karate is a blessing to me
Machida is a Karate fighter and went 16-0 undefeated in the UFC and won the light heavyweight championship. Even UFC journalists credited his karate skills to his success and his ability to confuse his opponents. You can be in denial all you want, but MMA just means "mixed martial arts," and Karate is one of the martial arts making a name for itself in MMA. Karate fighters who add Judo, BJJ, or some form of grappling to their arsenal are fighting and winning in the UFC.
espectacular estoy enamorado del karate como disciplina ,y que ademas forma el caracter de la persona, soy practicante de shotokan y lo he vivido lo recomiendo 100 %
@Gagaay answer is no. You are never too old. I have a friend started in his forties he's now been training in our club 30 years is 74 fit as a fiddle and is now a 3rd Dan . OSS!
Oh, and for the record, the first Karate vs. Muay Thai match was in Thailand in 1964 when 3 fighters from Mas Oyama's Kyokushin school in Japan faced three Muay Thai boxers. Final score: Japan won by 2 to 1, both winning Karate fighters defeating their opponents by knockout.
Oh, I haven't studied since the 80's, my friend. I went to a karate/judo school where my instructor taught Judo, Goju Ryu, Kenpo, Shotokan, and Arnis. I've been out of it since 1991, but I still encourage anyone who wants to train to do so, as long as they can find a good school and not one of those shopping mall dojos.
all i can say, i sparred with a shotokan black belt when i had a brown belt in shaolin kenpo, it was a awesome match, i never sparred with anyone of that caliber and i was actually afraid. it ended with him having a very bloody nose and a great bow of respect to me. it was humbling and i felt bad about busting his nose, but those guys are no joke.
hmmmm, I just love my country, I gotta take a visit again, I miss it, my family and friends. I love this video, this form is very powerful. it would be an Honor to learn under this. even though I already train Okinawan Karate at home, I'd just like to train for a week with these people. :)
I have trained at JKA and several universities including Takudai. Brilliant!
The Best Martial Arts Of The World!
Shotokan Karate is still the King of all Martial Arts!
I watching this to help me regain my focus after being away from the dojo due to injury. Tonight is my first lesson in 6 months. I'm very excited!
this is my favorite karate video on the web. I really wish I could train at the honbu. I get really good training where I live, but I would still just love to be in the atmosphere of the honbu

This is the best video that represents what Shotokan Karate is.
Best Shotokan Karate video I've ever seen.

This video got me hyped up to start taking Karate lessons.
One of the best decision in my life.
It's been a long time since I trained, but this is karate. One technique; one life.
Never outside of training have I ever seen such a beautiful depiction of this Art. Thank you to whom ever created it!

Absolutly superb. I love the way the videoclips were put together not to mention the excellence in thoes clips.
I just started my study of.shotokan I don't think I've ever been more disciplined and had as much fun in doing something.
The JKA HQ has an AWESOME dojo, I was there less than a month ago for training
precision, speed and accuracy, these are the three secrets of Karate.
I love shotokan style. They are awesome.
Wow...great vid!
Makes ya proud to train in Shotokan.
I especially love the last part of the video that shows the past masters and present practitioners.

Biggest respect to Gichen Funakoshi.......
Shotokan is such a stong form of the art!
Shotokan is more than fantastic, it's everything !!!!

great video the attitude of the class is amazing

OOOOOsssssssssssssssssss......, the best video of KARATE,
Arigatou gosei mashita
Thank you. There are so many karate practitioners in the UFC aswell that are great fighters, I don't see what people dislike karate all of the sudden.
Ive seen this video hundred times, and i never got tired to apreciate the beuaty on it. I am a Shito kai man , but I enjoy with naked eyes and not any stile point of view, I just see karate, discipline, respect and beauty
thank you for making such a inspirational video! added to my favourites
just started karate, love it!
Excelente, muy buena energia

Such a "simple" (not as in easy) yet effective martial art. A pleasure to watch and probably to practice :) great video !
This is the best video about Sotokan
I practise Okinawan Goju Ryu but goodd karate is good karate. This video is amazing and I feel a great respect for JKA Shotokan brothers.
Nice video, wouldn't mind going to Japan to practise there way.
I'm glad to see that Nishiyama sensei is included.
the beauty of karate!!
Yes, philosophy of precision and timing!!

If people in todays sociecity had to fight for the same reasons they did back then, They would have a much greater respect for the Art. Well put.

loved every minute of it, even though I study another martial art for 15 years I still appreciate dedication and hard work, without the politic's
BEAUTIFUL JUST BEAUTIFULLLLLLLLL....im a 2nd dan in TKD but i love all the arts
Man, Kagawa Sensei is a beast with his flexibility. It's no wonder he's the technical director.
That place is beautiful. Wish my back yard looked like that.
