    so amazing.. look at how effortlessly he holds himself composed and upright when he's basically doing a full split/sidekick to the throat of all places... amazing

  • @toxi87
    @toxi87 13 років тому +1

    @armpithumor the thing about yoko geri keage is that it isn't a first strike move, the best application is after blocking. When Yoko geri is found in kata it is almost always coupled with a ura ken or back fist, when this is applied the ura ken works as a block and makes an opening for the kick. Best targets are the groin, arm pit, throat, and kidney.

    I found karate quite late in life and now seven years later am a proud holder of a black belt in shotokan (jka). I took this on as a personal challenge and have really enjoyed my journey to date. Train hard and learn from everything you do and everyone you meet, enjoy. Ossu!

    the control over their bodies, their blinding speed, their unbelievable accuracy... I have so much respect for karatekas

  • @toxi87
    @toxi87 13 років тому

    @rellimsevens whats neat though is that the kick dosen't have to follow through like that in fact most yoko geri are quick snapping kicks and the foot returns to the original position, so even if he missed at the range he could bring it back and still be in the fight. It' is not the end all be all of kicks and neither is the round kick witch can be just as deadly for the kicker if he dosen't bring it back fast enough or is caught.

  • @chuckneale
    @chuckneale 14 років тому

    Kekomi = to thrust or to deepen.
    Keage = to rise, a rising snapping action.
    For someone who says they 'cannot quite speak japanese' your spelling of the techniques is correct which is nice to see. I think learning the terminology in the arts is important. I think Kagawa is brilliant.

  • @njtr

    I've done a little research on Kagawa Sensei. He stated (I'm paraphrazing here) that one of his biggest problems, coming up, was that he was very stiff and rigid. I think its very clear that he's taken care of that. This gives us all hope. Keep training. Osu.

    @rellimsevens he's kicking into the air without falling and landing on a very solid stance, so even in your example with the opponent moving or evading the kick Kagawa is still in a position to continue the attack.

    I'm very serious now about obtaining my Black Belt. A lot has happened in my life , my body and mind has become weakened by fear and the pathetic ramblings of idiots. I gave up many years ago, but now I have 2 sons, and one just born, I will train my very hardest, I will tar in my body in the fire of my own will and purge myself clean of the sins of the flesh. This mortal body will once again be strong and my will like iron. Wish my luck my friends as Karate is once again the path I choose for

    @macrobioticman I can found myself in your story. Except for that I haven't waited that long. I'm 20 yrs old. I have trained karate when I was little, but I was always too sensitive and didn't understand the meaning of all that.
    All my schooldays were full of fear and withdrawal from people. Then I found meditation and spirituality few years ago. And now, I am ready to walk the path of Karateka, the true Warriror.

    @Freestyleartclub two things. First I haven't compared kickboxing kicks with karate kicks. I have compared some kickboxing that I have witnessed with the kick of this individual Masao Kagawa (video above). Second - just like most of karate I have witnessed, there are some shocking kickboxing out there who use dancing kicks just as much if not more than karate-do.

    If I am holding an M4 full-automatic assault rifle loaded with 100-bullets drum kit against 100 black belts, who do you think will win the battle? Yes, I do have 14-years martial-arts experience; but, I still carry something extra, just in case. A dead opponent never complains, nor can they talk back (based from my own personal experience).

    It's funny that some, not really looking into it, ignore an entire well-established fighting system (& personal/spiritual aspects) developed over 1000s of years in real combat.
    Point sparring should be for low belts; competition kata's 100% pointless. But we need competition to test stuff. Not sport (idolizes winning) but bettering oneself by interacting with another (definition of kumite). No point sparring or rounds for high belts; full contact til a fighter/corner quits. Dangerous but needed.

Unfortunaly in my country- Chile- I must have more than my hands to be safe, and Justice, does nothing to make us be safer, the assasins, thieves go in and out from jail easily.

    I cant necessarily blame them. Go to a local karate tournament & you will be utterly unimpressed by what karate has devolved into. Sport competition is destroying the art imo. Many schools train their students to be effective @ point sparring rather than actual combat. And the contemporary kata division is a damn joke. (look up Taylor Lautner 2003 Bluegrass Nationals)

  • @sleestakattack
    @sleestakattack 11 років тому

    By contrast in the 70's & 80's martial arts flics had karate dojos flooded. Mainstream society is fickle & always quick to jump on the bandwagon.
    The traditional karate systems we're familiar with are actually only a few hundred years old, but you may be referring to the much older Okinawan & Chinese styles which influenced them.
    Tournament competition in its current state is an insult to the pioneers of karate & needs revision, that's all I'll say.
