Another great video Doddy. The bushes that have an orange-coloured bearing surface are actually DP4 Bushes. DU Bushes have a gray coloured bearing surface due to a very small percentage of lead which adds to the lubricity of the bearing surface. Back in 2007, I went into a shop to get my bushes changed and they were going to use a socket. I immediately left and the next day I machined a simple tool to get this job done. I actually started selling those tools online after a few refinements. cheers.
I just got a Fox X2 replacement and I need to make the Bushing on the bigger eyelet even on both sides. I learned that all I have to do is push it in but am nervous to F it up! I have a Vice at home so it should be easy peasy.
My Fox rear damper is standard equipped with DU bushings normal size 15 outer diameter /12,7 inner diameter x 12,7 width. In fact, 12,7 mm is 1/2 inch.
A good one, sterling work, tho I miss the mentioning of needle bearings, as for the instalment of hardware bits into the du bushing I like to cool the hardware in the freezer to ensure easy instalment

That's excellent Doddy! Thank you! This video came on spot, as I planned today to replace (upgrade) my rockshox shock, and will have to remove\install bushings and hardware (have new hardware, and bushing removal tool). I will update once complete.
It went very well! Apparently, the new shock, Rockshox Super Delux Ultimate 2023, came with installed bushings. I did have to use the hardware tool to install it.
Thank you for yet another great tutorial but I was just searching solutions for a diff problem: my rear shock bushings have sizzled up on the bolt and I m not sure how to take bolt out at this stage. Took out the rear suspension arms to make it easier but obviously the one on the side of the screw head could not be taken off. I hope you can help.
I had to have mine custom-made. 12mm bushing fitting a 14mm eyelet. 24.5mm front and 37mm rear hardware. My bike frame is a 1997 haro extreme, rock solid body I've upgraded with modern hardware
Should you use grease at any point during install? I found when I pressed the mounting hardware into the du bearing, it took a thin layer of the inner material away...
I have aluminum bushings with a little collar like the Polly on in the fox. My shock is a XFusion 02RC and got to change to a different shock because they don’t make this shock or rebuild kits for it. How do I get the aluminum collar bushings out? And it has ball bearing on the other end, do I press those on through?
A point to make here is both du and igus are brand names. Du bushings may have a metal outer but the low friction side is a thin coating of nylon once this is worn out you are metal on metal. The igus bearing is all low friction material and although they get sloppy as they wear. There is more material to wear so in essence are longer lasting also igus make these bearings in deferent materials including peek plastics that is far more hard wearing than the Teflon in the du style and also has lower friction characteristics.
I own a 2020 Canyon LUX and the system used by Rockshox with DU bushings is the worst ever and less performing. In fact, this system damaged my frame because the total absence of rotation of the spacer meant that the carbon frame wore out, fortunately replaced under warranty. Now I mount the RS shock absorber with the FOX bushing system. The FOX system, even if it lasts less, safeguards the components and therefore the life of the bicycle. Now Canyon uses all FOX components and you can explain yourself why.
so i tried removing my fox dps shock on my 2017 trek fuel ex and the top through bolt is seized on the bushing and i can't pull it out. tried wd-40 overnight and the bolt is still stuck. it just spins and spins and it won't come off the bushings and i can't remove the shock from the linkage. any ideas?
Shoot, this isn’t what I was looking for. My rear shock has an axle going through the bushing to fit in the frame. It does not come out by hand, but it is wide enough that I can’t remove the air can to do my 50 hour service. I was hoping to find a tool to remove that, not the bushing itself. Really don’t want to pay a shop to do the 50 hour service that I know I can do just because I can’t get that axle out. The internet is really failing me on this one.

Rock shox makes a great little press too. Made swapping shocks and servicing a breeze

My trek rail has very long bushes so a lower service needs the correct tool!

Pretty sure the industry standard is 15mm diameter of the eyelet and the inner diameter of the bushing is 12.7mm.

I purchased the tool, still stripped away some of the bushing inner material. Had to do it again.
Did it cause a problem that a thin layer was stripped away? How would you attempt the installation again to try and reduce that?

eyelet bearings are utter shit. worse thing ever. they just crap out.
