  • Woodturning - In this video I combine maple burl with leftover globes from previous pours and some fantastic Black tinted epoxy from Designer Epoxy to make this beautiful galaxy inspired hollow form. In this video I also use a UV Resin as a top coat finish but things don't go as planned! Thanks for watching and please share with your friends.

Regarding the pits caused by the air bubbles in the planets... that's actually pretty realistic! Most space bodies have craters on them!
Also, space pieces have always been one of my favorite types of pieces, and this one did not disappoint. The hypershift was definitely the right choice for this piece! I also like how you can subtly see some of the smaller planets that didn't quite make it through during the shaping.
Good luck on getting the UV resin to work as a top coat.

Woah. It's absolutely gorgeous, I'm still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor. I think the Black Pearl plus Hypershift from Designer Epoxy was the perfect pick to go with the maple and the globes. Makes each and every individual piece pop, and I can help but see a sea of stars and crushed velvet at the same time! It's incredibly unique, and I'm happy for whoever bought this piece!

I totally agree that the different sizes and colors of the globes makes this piece - totally looks like some galaxy far away! I LOVE this piece! When you originally said black, I thought it would wash it out. Shows what I know, 😂 it SO brought out the colors and made it so vibrant. It almost swirls and moves as you look at it. LOVE!!! Beautiful work, beautiful Designer Epoxy - just beautiful!!! And that hyper-shift - WOW!!!
And the lit, rotating video at the end? Come on! Gorgeous!!!!! Too bad that’s not how the new owner (lucky dawg) can display it all the time, it’s AMAZING!!

Oh, oh, oh my gosh!!! This is beyond cool!! We got Van Gogh and Klimt circles. You just keep giving me a new favorite Jim. I have an idea. Would you consider using the globe cast to make paper weights and or balls for display in a container of some kind. I see a wire basket with colorful hypershift balls in it. It would use leftover product AND be something you could sell for a reasonable amount of money for us poor people out here. I would purchase and be tickled pink to have something that you created!!!

Oh my gods, Jim! You didn't just knock it outta the park with this piece, you put it into another region! This has got to be my most favorite of what I've seen you make! All the colors in the black and gold waterfalls, it's reminiscent of the old pulp illustrations of space scapes a la Flash Gordon and it is just amazeballs!!! All the little planetoids and the larger gas giants, you've even got some terrestrial style planets, and the burl gives the impression that you're looking out on this vast galaxy from the surface of an asteroid and just holy cow, I cant say enough good things about how phenomenal this hollow form is!!!

It’s strange, I passed a comment about using a drum polishing system where you put sand inside it , and then a few minutes later you commented on getting a small sandblasting equipment, I believe there are beads you can get, I think if you google it, you can see different materials, you can use for cleaning certain products, Something that etches glass might be very good, stay safe, it truly does look amazing, look forward to next week, Could this be a shady , 😂,

This is a great looking piece. The Designer Epoxy seems to always look good. I like how the orbs show more light coming through than the black. It enhances the feeling of space and planets.

I'm not usually a fan of multicolor pieces, but this is so cool. It must be the black resin with the hyper shift. Would love to see a series of the globes ❤❤

Hi Jim, with resin you can’t use 99% alcohol on it or it will haze but 70% alcohol will remove marks easily. In fact the 70% is used as a final set on resin in nail salons. Hope that helps. Designer Epoxy.
