That’s the most incredible box elder burl I’ve ever seen. Love the effects of the resin on the burl. Really beautiful. Can’t wait to see the shade. Designer epoxy!!
Jim: you forgot the time of the tide changes. That is why it was stuck on the bottom. The tide came in and spilt over the bucket. That is a fantastic lamp base. The water and coral below came out really well. When the light shines on it and then gets turned off it will glow for a long time. Nice that you reclaim wood that would otherwise be thrown into the fire pit. The lamp shade is going to be interesting. Take care and stay safe.

Designer epoxy! My boyfriend turned me on to your channel and we watch your videos together now. We've been seriously talking about getting a small lathe and some resin molds and try our hands at doing this too so thanks for the inspiration! The lamp is gorgeous, and I can't wait to see it finished off with the shade! Thanks again
A lamp is a perfect project for Easter weekend! Bring more light into the world!! And filling the Dixie cups with color reminded me of the years coloring Easter eggs with my kids. I think it's safe to say that we are all envious of the person who owns this along with the other coral reef piece. These are beautiful!! Thanks again, Jim.
I don't woodwork, although I find your videos incredibly relaxing and I like to see how you take something from nothing and make it into something beautiful. Thank you for your videos!
CRICKY Jim as usual bloody awesome, so much information for all levels of turning and artists. I can't wait to see how you finish this one off. I may have to rethink outside the Square. Keep the dream alive son. Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I love anything glow in the dark so I’m a huge fan of this! Ya know there are a ton of people on here that have long videos and I’m usually not a fan of watching for that long but yours kept me interested and was not bored or felt like you lagged on! So good job! I like how informative you are without being boring or repetitive! So thank you for that!
Your very welcome! I am looking forward to it. My husband laughs at me too when I add glow powder in the cracks of my fractured burned vases after I turn & burn them. I’m not as good as you are but I’ll keep practicing. Due to a recent shoulder surgery I’m out of commission for a while though. 😔
Hi Jim, I really enjoyed watching your project turn into a fantastic piece. I'm excited to see the second part of this piece being created. I'm sure the finishings of this piece will be fantastic. You never seem to amaze us all. 👍 Keep on turning. Designer Epoxy
Hey Jim. My "screaming" first started when you showed us the glowing in the dark - it just looked soo cool !!! Looking forward to the next video 😀 🇩🇰♥️🇨🇦.
I've been watching for about 6 months now and appreciate the fact that you are not afraid to test new items and styles. This lamp base turned out a bit better than I was envisioning from the verbal description which you started with. A tribute to you skills. May the Turnings continue to show growth and expression as you advance in time and location when you move. Rate this Base 12/10
Jim, you are such an adventurer. Love your forays into areas you you are unfamiliar with. I look forward to each new video, just for your art. I think of you as an artist, more than a word turner. Love your art. I think you need to create a group of your art pieces and have a showing at a gallery. Just my thoughts.
Fire and Water lamp. Impressive! The blue glow kinda reminds me of the Rift at the end of the movie Pacific Rim. I'd be interested in the final weight, once you add the lamp shade. Looking forward to next week's video.
Wow, just when I think you can't top past pieces ... you blow it away. That burl is simply amazing. Can't wait to see what you do for the shade. Love seeing you create these stunning pieces of art!
Once again, I'm utterly amazed (but not surprised in the slightest) at the outcome of this weeks project. It's always an absolute pleasure to watch your videos every week and I'm looking forward to seeing how this gets finished off. As always, have a great weekend! 👍
The Boxalder has lots of red in the Burial, the ocean Coral glows great.i even like the cove or cave. I think the lamp switch is for a three way bulb. I have one in my bedroom. Can't wait to see how you do the lamp shade. It's looking really cool so far. Awesome job. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Oh, and a strain relief where the cable exits the lamp. Cover the whole bottom with felt so it doesn't scratch furniture. Thank you very much for this video. I loved it 😍.
Love, love, love! The colour pigments from Designer Epoxy tell no tales or lies. Matched with that burl, perfect! In my mind's eye, I kept picturing a tiny little scuba diver in the little side cave, LOL! I can't wait to see what you do for the lamp shade! Great job, Jim!
The coral reef is pretty as always. I love that wood grain. Beautiful. I can’t wait to see the shade. Next time you could drill more caves into the sides of the lamp. I love this lamp.
Wow that burl is something insanely special! Just perfect for your coral reef theme! A lovely shape,. Great decision to thin out the ocean resin on top, it was obscuring the reef a little too much and now the balance is spot on 💜 I am so excited to see what you create for the shade next week, this piece is incredible! Thank you Jim, I am very happy for the new owner with their soon-to-be matching set!
Hi Jim , That Looks 👀 Amazing, That is going to look 👀 a Great looking Table Light 💡, not sure if you could of done it, but in the bottom of the canyon, as in the real world, you sometimes see a lava, fisher in the bottom , Pahoehoe Flow , Pillow , Lobrate Lawa Flow , a red neon light right in the bottom, Sorry, it’s just my brain working overdrive, it looks amazing. Look forward to next week where you do the shady customer bit, 😂,
Absolutely. Sdunning the box elder Burl is probably the best I've seen on any of the woodturning videos. I hope you find more so that you can. Use it again. Again, the lamp base is absolutely stunning. I can't wait to see the shade.❤🎉🎉❤
Very nice. Love the wood and the glow in the dark aspect. Growing up in the 60's it brings back the black light era of my childhood. Love the Designer Epoxy. Looks very nice with colors in it. I love my 3 way light. I use one by my computer every day.
Random is really hard! Two things that help me in my abstract painting: 1) Thinking of an 80/20 or one-third / two-thirds area distribution per color and 2) Thinking of painting as “choreographed eye movement.” That said, I love how the colors look on the top. Really looking forward to part two and the finished product!
Absolutely love the boxelder burl, it's got a fantastic grain, I love the resin and the glow in the dark colors, I can't wait to see the finished lamp.
That has to be the most gorgeous piece of Box Elder Burl I have ever seen! The coral effect is spot on. I really enjoy the pieces where the wood is the star and the epoxy enhances it. Just fabulous! Designer epoxy.
You absolutely did that spectacular burl justice with this one! Also great decision to take down the top a bit to see the coral better. I could never be a turner because I'd just keep whittling away at each piece until only a toothpick was left! Thanks for another great vid, shout out to the YT powers that be to get the algorithm straight!
Hmm. Glow in the dark resin on the top of a lamp. Guess you'll see it glow when the lights out. As always lots of fun to watch. It's been gray a lot lately. Cmon sun!
Hello Jim nice to see you the box elder burl is beautiful I really love the colouring in it. I love the resin pigment colours you used the glow in the dark ones are cool. The base is magnificent its one of my favourites, I'm loving the coloring and the glow in the dark resin, the coral is beautiful. I like the profile of the base it looks lovely. God bless you and your family, stay safe and take care from Amanda xx❤❤
Gee willlickers Jim. All those vivid colors I don't know. Love the burl and profile. I'm willing to eat my words next week. Edit. Never mind. I'm already eating. 😂 That glow-in-the-dark! Wow
I love the look of the dark base you used to rotate the lamp at the end of the video. The contrast and adding some height to this piece would be very stunning
I really like the boxwood burl and your ocean scene is fantastic. Your coral interpretation with all the different colors is awesome. The fluorescing coral is over-the-top. Can't wait until next week for the lamp shade.
Got to say I flinched when you started to drill the top lol Love the ocean and coloured corral under . The glow pigments are amazing in the dark. Love the burl with all the red . Can't wait to see what you do for the shade :)
That burl is GORGEOUS!! The coral effect is awesome! LOVE florescent colors!! (In fact, I just discovered florescent dyes for yarn, I can't stop playing with a blacklight! 🤣😂) As for the casting being stuck, there's ALWAYS something!! Not to mention my favorite, Jim vs the mold! 😂🤣😂🤣 I still think you should wrap the tray in your oven in foil for easy cleanups..😉
My god, Jim, that turned out absolutely breathtaking! I can’t wait to see the finished piece with the shade on Friday, and I truly wish I could afford to buy it! The red fungus from the box elder, the shaping of the burl creating that cool little cave on the side, the crevasse across the top center, the colors you used for the “coral” and the glow in the dark effect… it’s amazing!
Omg Jim, this piece is absolutely gorgeous. I was in awe when you flipped it over to show the top with the coral showing through. I really love this design.
Hooray! Thank you for finally working on a lamp, Jim! Now I can’t wait for next week’s video. I commented that I thought a lampshade would be ace a few videos back, and you said you had something planned, but that box elder was…wow! And to top it with the return of the coral was inspired. Sweet, sweet work!
That burl is the most amazing wood I’ve ever seen! Perfect bulbous shape to show it off! As you suggested, the blue is a little darker than ideal to show off the “coral” effect. I’d also have preferred a more globe-like shape to the top instead of the flat, but still overall a stunning piece. 🔥
My knowledge about wood is about what I remember you teaching us, but this burl is probably the most beautiful I will ever see. I love the reef so much. We will be scuba diving in the Red Sea in about 3 weeks. This is a wonderful pre-dive. The burl actually looks like a fan coral by itself (like the soft corals, moving in a current) The glow in the dark is sooo fascinating. And the cave….I’m speechless! I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the lamp shade.
I'm not a wood worker nor do I work with resin. I just love watching a true artist work his magic. You are a treasure.
Thanks so much! Much appreciated!
me too
That’s the most incredible box elder burl I’ve ever seen. Love the effects of the resin on the burl. Really beautiful. Can’t wait to see the shade. Designer epoxy!!

Designer Epoxy. THe piece is absolutely fantastic. The UV reactive resin is just stunning.
Totally agree! Thank you so much!
Yes, just the wood itself made for anticipation. Loved the entire process!
Thank you very much!
Jim: you forgot the time of the tide changes. That is why it was stuck on the bottom. The tide came in and spilt over the bucket. That is a fantastic lamp base. Love the lamp base and can’t wait to see the video of the lamp shade with all the Designer Epoxy colors and glow in the dark colors.
Thank you so much!

Trimming down that top a bit to make the coral more visible was a great idea. Looks awesome. I cant wait to see the finished piece. Designer Epoxy.

Thank you! Cheers!
Designer Epoxy, I'm really liking how the "coral" came thru.

Thanks so much!
You know what they say, two heads are better than one! Cool piece!
Sometimes, haha. Thanks
Got to say I flinched when you started to drill the top lol Love the ocean and coloured corral under . The glow pigments are amazing in the dark. Love the burl with all the red . Can't wait to see what you do for the shade :)

Thanks so much!
That burl is GORGEOUS!!
The coral effect is awesome!
LOVE florescent colors!!
(In fact, I just discovered florescent dyes for yarn, I can't stop playing with a blacklight! 🤣😂)
As for the casting being stuck, there's ALWAYS something!!
Not to mention my favorite, Jim vs the mold! 😂🤣😂🤣
I still think you should wrap the tray in your oven in foil for easy cleanups..😉
Yes, that is an easy fix. This will never be used for food, that’s why I’m not overly concerned about it, lol. Thank you very much!
That glow-in-the-dark epoxy is so cool! 💕 What a beautiful way to showcase this burl.
Thank you very much!
My god, Jim, that turned out absolutely breathtaking! I can’t wait to see the finished piece with the shade on Friday, and I truly wish I could afford to buy it! Amazing how that boxelder burl mimicked the coral so well!! Fabuloso!!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
That is indeed some beautiful burl. If the shade looks as good as the base it'll be one of your best pieces.
I hope so! Thank you very much!
Omg Jim, this piece is absolutely gorgeous. I was in awe when you flipped it over to show the top with the coral showing through. I really love this design.
