Brother, you worked and worked. I hear yeah. At least you didn't start selling drugs and poisoning our young brothers and sisters. You kept working at it, and at it. Now look at you. 👍Good things come to those who wait. Brother thats not a saying. Thats in the bible. Psalm 37, Lamentations 3:25, James 5:7-11 Good things come to those who wait on God.😊 say Amen to that.
No sir brother that option never crossed my mind. I would rather put in the hard work. Thanks for listening💪🏾💪🏾
Great view & video. LOL I'm glad your are trying to learn Spanish. I'm working on reading and spelling with hope that my ears will understand...even if I can speak well. Enjoy your day. Blessings
Thank you. Yeah, I'm trying to learn it at my own pace. I'm sure we will both reach our goal at some point😁
Your video is so refreshing. I’m glad you got out! I escaped 11 years ago from Pembroke Pines. Living in Cuenca, Ecuador. Happy happy happy for you.
Thanks brother. I heard Cuenca is nice and spot for expats.
"I know you guys are lazy!" Love it! 😂
😅😅
Wow, that is so true! US is the best place to make money but not to live forever. In which area of DR you choose to live? I've been in Pubta Cana but looking forward to visit Santo Domingo and Samana.
I'm in Santo Domingo. You definitely got to visit Punta Cana.
@@JayAbroad I visited Punta Cana in my honeymoon 27 years ago. We are planning to retire in Spain. We are originally from Argentina living in the states for 20 years.
I will say about the climate that must be global warming because when I was little I remember my grandmother telling us don't you feel the xmas breeze, so it did use to get a bit cooler in winter, plus it is cool in Contanza, that part of the country and I member going to Jarabacoa and felling cold 🙂 but once I came to USA and felt real cold then yes to me now DR is always hot lol
I'm going to have to visit Constanza thus winter to feel that breeze everyone is talking about😅
When you get hot, just take a swim in that fine ocean!
😅😅 will do
Your story inspired me bro.Keep grinding 💪
Fa sho bro, thanks for listening💪🏾
Awesome video 👍🏾
Thank you 👍
Interesting video.

Great perspective! 🙌🏼
Thank you 🙌
😂😂😂I have been binge watching your videos but when this one came across my timeline, I skipped it because I was like...who dis man?😂 ❤your videos! I'm toying with the idea of becoming an expat, just as soon as my daughter graduate high-school.(2years). Keep doing what you're doing!😊
😅😅 I appreciate you watching. Thanks🙏🏾🙏🏾
A la orden= you’re welcome, Que te vaya bien: have a good day
Gracias!
Greeting Tio como! Que tal! You are to become my BEST MAN doing my wedding in Santo Domingo in the FUTURE! AMEN-ASE!
When I first got to DR. When I took a shower at home with my wife. I had to shower in cold water and that woke me up. Especially in December when the water doesn't really get that hot from the sun. I love the way everyone speaks to each other. I'm glad you said that about the traffic. Because I don't drive much while I'm there. My wife or other family members does the driving. But I know it will come to a point to where I will start driving more and I need to think about what you said. Big ups bro.
Duolingo is free and you learn and practice at your own pace.
👌🏾
Dude, I'm trying to get a pad but everyone wants a garantor, how did you do it ??
Sometimes you can get by if you pay a few months in advance. Or rent an Airbnb then negotiate with the owner
@@JayAbroad thank you Sir!!
The food is the so true. Growing up I was taught to always say yes if offered something to eat or drink when visiting family in the DR. It’s almost kindve taken like an offense when you say no to food. 😂😂 but exactly like you said, it’s just the culture. One day my husband made a comment about customer service at a Dominican restaurante in nyc, he’s from Brasil and almost everything that Dominicans do would be considered “rude” in Brasil. Then I explained it’s just culture in the Caribbean. Then I took to this Jamaican spot so he can compare the customer service and it was the same. I believe what the difference is that there is less entitlement there. Here in the US there is a lot of entitlement. The perfect example is a Walmart that closes at 10pm and a customer wants to walk in 9:55pm and shop. If they’re rushed out, most likely will be a bad review.
GREAT Info
Thanks!
I have been living in the dr for about 25 years my experiences have been very good ! If you would want to interview me for your channel i would welcome it . Btw my name is eddie and i live in santo domingo also.
Ok, that awesome bro, you've been here this long with nothing but good experiences. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
We need a video on adjusting to a Dominican wife. It’s been a year and I’m still not there yet 😂
😅😅
The adjustment period when i moved from New York to Florida was about two years, getting accustomed to the weather and having random strangers wave and say good morning..I know the main thing for me to adjust to there will be the driving, but watching videos like this and getting a new way of seeing traffic and driving there as part of life living there.. I've learned Don't stress over what you can't control, the only control you have is your reaction to the stimuli...Peace my dude..
10:16….😂😂😂😂 the irony. 🇺🇸: Great Customer Service, but the people aren’t as friendly. 🇩🇴: Terrible Customer Service, but the people are friendly. 😂😂😂
Yep, didn't catch that...😅
Amazing view 👍✨️
Adreed!
I need to get my passport
Facto!
Great video my brother 👏🏾🔥
Thanks 💯
Again Great video Jay, 2 years to adjust /adapt, you had it right on the money. I mean is a lot to process, new culture, language, mentality, weather, food, family. Everything you said about the Dominican lifestyle is 100% right. I personally think that if you put a little bit of effort to learn Spanish U would feel fully integrated in the culture. I live 20 years in the Netherlands after 3 years I adapt to the country but didn't know much about the language and that set some limitations on my day to day life. So I decided to change that. Now I can hear people having a random conversation and I know exactly what they are talking about it. The ducht language has become a second mother language to me. Native/local people appreciate when you talk their language. Try some duolingo(language app) . 20min at day make the difference. The app is kind of fun and is free. Hope my English is right. Keep on uploading this kind of video is good content that will be a life lesson for ever because this subject that you talking about it, doesn't apply only for Dominican Republic but for any part of the world you want to move to.
You're 1000% correct. Learning the language would fully integrate me. Definitely will start working on it.
The spanish language is easy depending the language you speak, if you speaking Portuguese or Italians languages the Spanish language is more easy to learning because you going to find words common 😉 .... just take it easy you going to learn one day .... God bless you 🙏 ❤️
If you can’t control something why drive yourself crazy I completely agree with that
Facts!
Bendisione
Wow I never knew it takes over 2 years to adjust.
The amount of time will vary from person to person. Most of the time when people say they've adjusted they're really tolerating. Not because they've accepted things as they are. In my opinion, if a person has never experienced Dominican culture and say they fully adjusted in 3 to 6 months, I have a hard time believing it. If you've lived a certain way for 30 to 50 years and all it took was a few weeks to change it, nah😅
Great vídeo my bro, i always support you, hi from Santo Domingo 🙏🏼🇩🇴💪🏼🔥🔥
Thank you brother🙌
Life in dr is laid back. No worry about police giving you a ticket for open container bullshit here usa. Just trying to enjoy a beer on a hot day.
Completely agree.💯
James I no longer put myself under pressure to learn Spanish. I try to pick up a few things here and there and I know one day it will come together. Don’t pressure yourself or let anyone try to put shame on you because you can’t speak the language fluently yet. Good content brother James 👍👍👍
I appreciate this comment. Sometimes I do feel pressure to learn the language, when I know I've gotten better understanding, reading and writing it over the last 3 years.
Easy to pronounce, CAH-SEA-CASS-GHOS
Now this helps. I'll never screw it up again.
I couldn’t help but be captivated by the background in your video, Jay. It was like one big post card, with the palm trees and blue water. We as Americans, get so used to the 4 seasons here, that it would definitely take some getting used to, to be in a hot climate all the time. Every video that I’ve watched about D.R., I’ve never seen anyone sweating while being outside whether they were Dominicans or foreigners. I was puzzled by that. Toward the end of the video I saw you start to sweat a little. 😄 The heat, year round, is what I’d have to get used to, the language thing I’m good with; I’ve been studying Spanish for 10 years. Another great video, fam! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yeah brother it started getting a little warm out there😅. Getting use to the heat is a bigger challenge than most people think. I spoke to a few people before where it was a deal breaker for them
Jay, while your busy making money to provide for your family ( as a responsible head of household), make sure your wife is busy teaching your little daughter some Spanish, so she won't have to struggle with it, like you're doing now. 😅😂 I didn't mean to be funny, I'm a teacher.
My brother, my daughter, is fluent in Spanish. You must have missed the video with me and my daughter where we talked about this. She speaks great Spanish.
Glad to know that; awesome! And, yes, that's one of the few videos I've missed from your repertoire. Lol@@JayAbroad
Another good video, my Dominican wife gets upset because I’m not putting forth an effort to learn Spanish, I can read Spanish better than I can speak it and the Malecon is a very beautiful place, when I visit I go to the colmida and have a beer and enjoy the Dominican people, the Dominican people are a very proud people who and friendly, they are proud people
Same here bro. I can read it really well. I should have mentioned that. Good for you bro. 💪🏾
That Santo Domingo traffic is crazier than LA Mexico and Atlanta combined. I love visiting but the peace and quiet of Sosua Cabarete fits my lifestyle better to live. I salute all my expats who drive in Santo Domingo.
😅💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
@@hellisgood666 true story
Jay and Norberis, with the open air agreement. Do you think that the future influx of people a lot of that sense of community and family, wil dusappear?
I don't think it will have that type of impact in terms of people moving here and changing the culture.
I understand, in the states working so hard everyday didn't have time to teach my children Spanish. 😢
Hola, thank you so much for your advice!😊
You're welcome!
J, I’m a give you a tip: think in Spanish. Stick every word you know in Spanish into your thoughts. It’s gonna be Spanglish, but just roll with it. Reinforce those neural paths by thinking in Spanish. Before you know, you’ll be fluent in the language. That’s what I did when I came to leave here and I was “fluid-ish” in English by year 2. Also, watch the news in Spanish, but no DR’s, watch Telemundo or something like that where the lingo is consistent and little slang gets presented. You’ll learn “Dominican” after you know Spanish. You can thank me for the advise next year 😊
This is good advice, is to think in Spanish rather than English. Check on me a year later let's see how far I get🤗
Coconut trees those not palm
Sue me😅😅

@@LucianGraphics I stand to be corrected brother💪💪
@@JayAbroad I should be in Zona Colonial end of October, gotta hot you up
The 80s sucked 😅
Yeah I know...
Thank you from Punta Cana, by way of Cincinnati.
You're welcome bro💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Truthfully i think shedding the Western mindset and expectations will make adjustment in a place like the DR and similar locales a lot easier. As for the heat, I grew up in Louisiana and there is a drastic difference as far as heat. It hits directly in the DR. What's crazy is i see locals wearing sweatshirts and hoodies and its in the upper 90s 😅 im like damn. The food , beans and rice with chicken seafood as well as the monfongo, its similar to what i grew up on in La. One thing I will state is when a Dominican says 12 o clock that means 130 lol. Great video brother.
Them wearing sweatshirts and 3 piece suits in this heat still baffles me to this day..lol! AL and LA has similar weather but you're right it hits totally different. And I should have added punctuality to it too, because I've become acclimated to their tardiness😅
@@JayAbroad Oh yeah..when they are late, i don't get upset, but I just sit back and have a drink lol
Wow I love the malecón y its sooo relaxing and beautiful . Jay, as usual excellent advice. Thank you for loving DR.
My pleasure brother.
I agree...thats where I am with my Spanish and my husband is Dominican...I can recognize some words that helps me get some idea of the conversation. But I've been busy getting him acclamated to U.S. so hoping to have more time in retirement for actually studying the language. I love you and your wife's videos ive learned sooo much more thru the both of you and your videos helps me stay excited about us being there more when I retire in a few years...gracias 😊
I believe it will all come together for me at some point. And thank you for supporting both channels and we will continue to keep you excited😊
Been raised in New York with a restaurant in almost every block I got acclimated for most of the Dominican culture ,the only thing I miss sometimes is some Jamaican oxtails and coco bread that never find in DR
I can see how that could make it easier to acclimaten growing up around the culture in NY.
