    Living in punta cana is more expensive, and we’re a family of 4 not 3 and we spend more like 700-800/mo in groceries. I can’t IMAGINE 2000/mo haha. Great video brother. Love the perspective

    People have a tendency of painting the entire Dr or city they're visiting with a broad brush based off the experience they had in the one little area they visited. We all have different tolerance levels and likings. You can't take other people's word as gospel. You have to go and experience things and draw your own conclusion of what suits you.

    I have been living in this wonderful country for 9 years, I am from California and I came to the DR for work, I fell in love with one of my Dominican colleagues, I have 2 wonderful children, I only go to California to visit my parents, when I got married it was difficult to choose a house To rent the houses that my wife chose were cheap but they did not meet my expectations in terms of space and the houses that I liked were very expensive, my wife got angry with me because I thought like a tourist and she is a native, in the end I let her choose and the truth is I save thousands of dollars compared to the USA, we have our own very spacious house, my wife chooses the supermarket for shopping and the truth is I don't complain, at first it was difficult I wasn't used to it but I have the pleasure of sitting in a grocery store to drink beer in sandals while playing Dominican or watching the Dominican winter baseball game, my favorite team is Licey, my wife and my children like the Eagles team, I always beat them, I love this country, it gave me a beautiful family and a 2nd home

      I have a different experience here; the hater comments or conversations I've encountered have been (in-person) from people from other countries (not Dominicans). Now, I know the history of my country the Dominican Republic and every time I encounter these haters I have to correct them. The best part is seeing their faces agreeing with me that I'm well informed about my country or acknowledging their behavior was not appropriate. Eventually I find out from them that misinformation is coming from some international news agencies, and NGOs. If you don't know the history of your country, someone else will tell you a different story.

    American people expect for countries to shift to accommodate them like they are still in America. It doesn’t work that way. You have to shift yourself to assimilate into their culture and way of doing things. It’s different but that is also what makes it refreshing. If you are a person who abhors shifting to meet your circumstances then you should not go there. If everyone has to cater to you then you should not go there.

    Love the content Jay but I have to correct you: SD is not walkable in any meaningful sense of the word. The people who "walk" it do so to go short distances after taking public transportation for most of their commute. Public transportation sucks so most people with any means, middle class, etc. get a car to not have to "walk" the city (which really means taking public transport for most of their daily commutes). Car ownership is a huge status symbol in DR for that reason. Some people in govt are trying to make the city more walkable but it's not even close to being there. If your wife grew up in DR she should tell you the same thing just ask her.

    • @JayAbroad
      @JayAbroad  3 місяці тому

      Bro, no need to preface you love for the content just to disagree. I open to respectful disagreements and you've always been respectful on the channel so no issues there. However, we may have a different idea of "walkable". Coming from someone that manages Airbnb when people say walkable they mean can I walk to restaurants, bars, supermarkets, restaurants etc. Where I live I can walk to anything I just named in lest than 15 minutes. I consider Naco walkable. I consider Pianitni, Gazcue, Zona Colonial walkable. The way you are describing it it's for locals in form of commuting. This guy was a tourist he's not going work. Where ever he stayed I'm sure it was walkable in the since I'm referring to. But I get your point. Thanks for sharing this info
