GREAT VIDEO BRO, I AM DOMINICAN BUT LIVE IN LONG ISLAND, NY. I MISS MY COUNTRY A LOT BUT LOVE TO SEE A BROTHER LIKING MY COUNTRY AND TALKING ABOUT IT SO WELL, THANKS, WELL APPRECIATED.
I’ve been to most of the neighborhoods you mentioned. Zona Colonial was my first stop. Then a few places on the Malecon in Disrito Nacional. Piantini, Bella Vista, all over Este, San Isidro, Los Tres Ojos and lastly Norte. Love Avenida Venezuela and the Malecon on Avenida Espana
Good point Jay, you said a person could get to know the lay of the land of Puerto Plata and other locations in the Dominican Republic in a day or two. I live in Puerto Plata and travel to Santo Domingo frequently and I can say there is NO WAY you can learn Santo Domingo in a day or two from Villa Meja to Gazcue just raveling alone would take more than two days not to mention stopping at various sites to familiarize yourself along the way would take many trips. The other challenge is it is so easy to get stuck in your favorite part of the city like Bella Vista and neglect Piantini right down the street. For your Santo Domingo is #1 for me it's #2...LOL!
Nice Summary. Santo Domingo is by far my favorite city on the island. Nearly lived in Gazcue. But went to beach town instead, but staying close to La Capital. 👍 Enlightening Jay.

@@JayAbroad yeah but in the event we go there e wave to be in Mirador sur or Bella Vista, near downtown center. We spent a few days there and we enjoyed it. We did not need to order a Uber
Agree with you 99%. I'd switch oeste and Norte though 😅 because I know a person in oeste and never hungout in Norte. I have plenty of friends in este, in the San Isidro area. I just wish they would extend the metro to the airport. It would make travel much easier to Districto Nacional. Also, it would prevent people from getting scammed by the Uber drivers on the late flights that come in.
Thanks again for your information. I found a place to land in Santo Domingo Este at the no frills Tropical Island ApartHotel for $10 a night. What will count is having free Wi-Fi to work! I'll upgrade my accommodations as the commissions come.
@@JayAbroadyes, 2 years ago, i stayed in El Conde. I can't afford to land there for a month or more, this trip. So, I'll settle for a no-frills spot until I start making some cash. Okay area?
@@JayAbroadI've been hearing that... Thinking about renting a car for my drives into Santo Domingo and other places I'm interested in visiting. I've seen the traffic patterns and driving there... The Uber normally runs about $40 from Santo Domingo, thus I'm thinking about just renting a car at SDQ. I also just found out about Jima Falls too. I'll be there DR for 10 days. What are your thoughts on renting a car? Not just the cost difference, but actually the art of driving there especially in Santo Domingo. Not really concerned about the highways between cities.
Man you sell DR better than Norberis 😅. I'm going to start planníng me a trip for later this year. Already got a trip to Colombia planned in a few weeks or I'd book a flight there now. Good info fam 🤙🏾
I visited in 2015 for 20 days are were pleased must come back using coper airlines from Panama I find it's cheaper living there but I made one mistake a. Drunk the water
Love SD, been there like six times. I'll be there Friday for about a week. Looking for a cigar lounge with a good atmosphere. I've been to fuente and the cabinet, what are some others. I'm staying near Bell vista.
There's 2 that I go to in Bella Vista, Camilu & Fusion. Both have great atmospheres. The only thing I don't like about Fusion is it's expensive. Their cigars are really expensive compared to other cigar bars. So I usually buy from another place and go there to smoke and enjoy the atmosphere.
Santo domingo este Right now the city center is undergoing a similar transformation, there is a sector that is similar to piantini [alma rosa 1] And even in the future it will be much better, with much taller towers up to 100 meters high, this real estate development with ambitious towers is not available anywhere else in the city.
What is your favorite Cigar store/ lounge? I have visited a few and the selection hasn't always been very large. You seem like a cigar connoisseur so I'm curious your opinion or if you plan on a video covering soon.
I like Arturo Fuentes in terms of cigar lounge and I also like Arturo Fuentes cigars. But Cigar Cabinet has the best Cigar selection so far that I've seen here in Santo Domingo. I'm an amateur when it comes to cigars but I enjoy smoking them. I will do plan on doing a video on cigars.
Hey Jay really enjoy your channel man! I gotta quick question for you. Im 23 and will be traveling solo in a few weeks to make my 2nd trip to the DR. My first stop is Sosua but Im thinking about checking out Santo Domingo after since I've heard so many good things about it. Do you think Santo Dominigo would be safe for a dude my age to be walking around solo? I plan on staying in downtown Zona colonial area and not venturing out of that.
Sosua is trash man, go to Caberete instead (the next town over). And if you're going to Santo Domingo, def stay in Zona Colonial if you're traveling solo, don't recommend venturing out.
@@DCampusano1 for cabarete though I thought they don’t allow girls to come over? When I was looking at air bnbs for cabarete they seemed very family oriented and didn’t allow any chicas working girls to come over
@TLOPassportBro I personally think it's safe to walk around in certain areas. Zona Colonial, Gazcue, along the Malecon, Piantini, Naco, Bella Vista are all areas that are cool to walk for first time travelers. As I mentioned in this video it's a big city and can be overwhelming for people who don't understand it. I know many guys come here alone and have no issues.
@@JayAbroad West Mobile. 20 years here working for the Shipbuilding industry in beautiful Pascagoula, MS. Can't wait to join you in Sto Dgo. Glad you're enjoying DR.
Ok, of course I know that area out that way. And in know those shipyards. At least the one in Mobile is it Ingalls? I know you ready to come back home😅
What it is Jay, love your vids bro.. Hey, where would be some good places to live for under 2k all in, if I wanted to be close to a beach (within 20 mins), and still get some city night life action. I'm not a club person per say, but do like the bars, restaurants, live music etc., but when I go home, i like a little more peaceful environment. Any places you know come close ?
I've been wanting to hit up Santo Domingo for a while. I'm thinking about a week long trip. I kind of want to hit that infamous town on the north coast for a few days then head back to Santo Domingo. What do you think about a tourist renting a car and driving around the island?
To me it's perfectly safe to drive here on the island. I just don't recommend driving at night from city to city. Other than that the road from Santo Domingo to Sosua is fine
@@DCampusano1 San Cristóbal, Haina, Santo Domingo Oeste and the westernmost part of Distrito National have grown so much that for all intents and purposes they are the same city. While technically Haina belongs to San Cristobal, it's way faster and closer getting from Haina to Distrito National than from Haina to San Cristóbal Downtown.
Actually, the capital of the country is only the national district, the rest are municipios of the santo domingo province (not santo domingo the city, that is the national district, but the province).they even have their own government, and capital of the santo domingo province is santo domingo este city. DR capital = santo domingo de Guzmán in the national district area Santo Domingo province capital= santo domingo este

Ok, that's a good location. Was just at that Holiday inn for a conference. Blue Mall is nice but Agora Mall is better and it's right down the street from the Holoday Inn. Blue Mall is cool, lot of expensive stores very upscale. Are you planning to go with someone to Norte and Este?
@@JayAbroad I learned long ago to heed advice from someone who knows more so Agora it is. Thanks. But yeah, my uncle will he traveling with me. He has zero spanish while mine is borderline conversational. That said we'll likely keep it tight by homebasing in Piantini, then hitting Norte/Cristo Rey for the immersion. Depending on feel, we might head out toward Este and Boca Chica if time/traffic allows. Didn't realize how sprawling this city actually is.

Yessiirr, I know. I felt the same way when I first came. I was like Punta Cana is much simpler and easy to maneuver. Once I learn the city I wouldn't want to live no other city at the moment.
Hi bro I am Dominican born in santo domingo however raised in Italy and live in the UK. What do you do for work in santo domingo? I really would love to live in my country but don't want to earn a misery pesos check. Many thanks!
Yo do you consider Boca Chica a tourist spot for Americans? I ve been there 3 times and only met Americans once. There was some Asian and i guess Europeans.
@marierobinson5458 No, that area is not dangerous. It's located on the Malecon. It's about 5 minutes from the main tourist area Zona Colonial it always something going on there especially on weekends. You can walk along the Malecon either direction and it's safe. Sometimes there are things going on there too. Not sure what you mean exactly by outdoor activities. What are some things you're into or want to do and I can probably point you in the right direction.
@@JayAbroad First off let me say thank you so much for responding and being so helpful. As I've been a little nervous 😞 but as far as outdoor activities I was thinking atv, snorkeling, dolphins 😁 etc and again thank you for your time and info 🙏🏽
@marierobinson5458 You're welcome. Nothing to be nervous about. You will not find any of those things in Santo Domingo...lol! Santo Domingo is like the NYC of Dominican Republic. It's all city. To do those things you will need to go to Punta Cana or Puerto Plata. You can possibly find day trips that will take you from Santo Domingo to those places to experience it but none of those activities are in Santo Domimgo.

Much love dude let loose it needs to be said and folks don't get we are there
Thanks bro, I appreciate it🙏🏾
The Metro that they are building to connect with Santiago is going to be a game changer
I agree 👍🏾
Agree with you 99%. I'd switch oeste and Norte though 😅 because I know a person in oeste and never hungout in Norte. I have plenty of friends in este, in the San Isidro area. I just wish they would extend the metro to the airport. It would make travel much easier to Districto Nacional. Also, it would prevent people from getting scammed by the Uber drivers on the late flights that come in.
Lol...I feel ya! I agree about the airport that would be nice if they extended out there.
That's already in the plans for development. There will be a metro line connecting the airport to the center of city prob in the next 5 yrs..
Dont forget Villa Juana, Gualey, los minas, etc
Yep, I know I was going to miss some. All three a pretty popular. Thanks for adding that.
@@JayAbroad BTW, your Spanish pronunciation is pretty good 👍🏿 👌🏾
I was trying my best😅
Thanks again for your information. I found a place to land in Santo Domingo Este at the no frills Tropical Island ApartHotel for $10 a night. What will count is having free Wi-Fi to work! I'll upgrade my accommodations as the commissions come.
Have you been to Santo Domingo before? I think I know that spot.
@@JayAbroadyes, 2 years ago, i stayed in El Conde. I can't afford to land there for a month or more, this trip. So, I'll settle for a no-frills spot until I start making some cash. Okay area?
Juan Dolio in a few weeks. I'll probably come into SD for a few nights of roof top chill spots with Presidente and the city views
I like Juan Dolio too. I rather there than Boca Chica.
I'm going to make sure she doesn't see thus comment.. lol! Thanks bro, definitely when you get a chance check it out.
Have you frequented the areas of "Los Prados, San Geronimo, El Millon, La Pradera" ?
Yes I've been to those areas but I don't frequent them.
I visited in 2015 for 20 days are were pleased must come back using coper airlines from Panama I find it's cheaper living there but I made one mistake a. Drunk the water
Oh no....you can't drink the water😅
Love SD, been there like six times. I'll be there Friday for about a week. Looking for a cigar lounge with a good atmosphere. I've been to fuente and the cabinet, what are some others. I'm staying near Bell vista.
There's 2 that I go to in Bella Vista, Camilu & Fusion. Both have great atmospheres. The only thing I don't like about Fusion is it's expensive. Their cigars are really expensive compared to other cigar bars. So I usually buy from another place and go there to smoke and enjoy the atmosphere.
I went to Los Patos yesterday and hour west of Barahona its a four drive from SD but definitely worth it
@@Ahhhnope657 ill have to check that area out. Barahona is definitely on my list to go.
I m starting falllow you 🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴
Jay, will be in town in a few weeks. I want to hit you up while I'm in town.
Send me an email at iamjayabroad@gmail.com
@@JayAbroad will do
Santo domingo este Right now the city center is undergoing a similar transformation, there is a sector that is similar to piantini [alma rosa 1] And even in the future it will be much better, with much taller towers up to 100 meters high, this real estate development with ambitious towers is not available anywhere else in the city.
But it's all about development
Yep, I'm aware. Being better than Piantini is a stretch but let's see. I like the Alma Rosa area.
@@JayAbroad Thanks for the guidance! I’ll check them out next time im in Santo Domingo. I hope to more there later this year probably to Este.
@@JayAbroad Awesome I'll look into those areas! Thanks!
What, up Bro. Dr department of tourism shelling any out compensation for the love you give Santo Domingo !
Not yet, but hopefully they realize my work🤣😂
@Abroad With Jay and I get a lot of choosing signals over her I know it would be times ten over there
Shout-out from a Dominican (Bonao) living in Mobile, AL. It's Mobile where you're from? Thanks for your great vid.
Wow, what are you doing in Mobile, when Bonao is beautiful😅? Yes I'm from Mobile. What area in Mobile are you in?
@@JayAbroad West Mobile. 20 years here working for the Shipbuilding industry in beautiful Pascagoula, MS. Can't wait to join you in Sto Dgo. Glad you're enjoying DR.
Ok, of course I know that area out that way. And in know those shipyards. At least the one in Mobile is it Ingalls? I know you ready to come back home😅
@@JayAbroad yes, Ingalls.
RVA in the house
Thanks bro. I’m going there in December. What are the best parts for hotels?
Gazcue, Naco, Piantini and Bella Vista
Easy to understand, I meant to say 😂
Jay great video, do you recommend to rent a car or use public transportation?
It just depends on what your itinerary will look like while you're here. Also, if you are ok driving here. Uber is really in expensive here too.
Thanks bro. I would probably say Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Las Terrenas, or Samana.
@@JayAbroad If it were your choice, I'm sure you would go with Samana, right? LOL
@@craighawkins3885 Exactly, thats my 3rd favorite city here, behind SD and Santiago. Samana is nice.
My hood ❤
Thinking about zonia colonial
Good choice.
@@JayAbroad That's all that I needed to hear. Thanks for taking time to respond to my question, and thank you for putting this channel together.
Yessiiirr, no problem. Enjoy yourself.
Manoguayabo is the birthplace of former Dominican pitcher and Hall of famer Pedro Martinez, Haina is the birthplace of also Hall of famer David Ortiz.
Didn't know any of this. Thanks for sharing it🙏🏾
I always assumed that Haina was in San Cristobal and not Santo Domingo..
@@DCampusano1You are right, the Big Papi born in Santo Domingo but it looks he grew up in Haina, San Cristóbal Province
@@Apollux True, makes sense.
Actually, the capital of the country is only the national district, the rest are municipios of the santo domingo province (not santo domingo the city, that is the national district, but the province).they even have their own government, and capital of the santo domingo province is santo domingo este city.
DR capital = santo domingo de Guzmán in the national district area
Santo Domingo province capital= santo domingo este
Ahhhh... ok,🤔
Do you have any recommendation for taxi drivers or buses i cant take while i am there?. Going to visit alone!
Use Uber. Taxis cost too much
Do the bar or lounges play American music?
Not to my knowledge. Or at least the ones I go to.
Can you compare the differences living in Punta Cana and Santo Domingo ?
I have a video coming where I talk a little bit about that. Maybe I'll do one in more detail.
@@JayAbroad awesome
I'll be landing at SDQ in a couple weeks. Been gathering info on the country for months and now I'm ready to put boots on the ground.
Yessiiirr, will you be staying in Santo Domingo?
@@JayAbroad Yeah, in Piantini at the Holiday Inn there. Gotta hit Blue Mall sir. I've heard good things. Thanks for the intel btw. Ima try to check out a few places you mentioned like Norte and possibly Este. Trying to avoid touristy areas and gringo prices
100% bro I was for sure overwhelmed I was in in domincain 3 times prior before going to santo
Domingo the moment I got off see security at the bus stop with shot guns Ubers with baseball bats cages over homes and got the restaurant and couldn’t even order food because I didn’t speak the language I literally packed my bags and went back to sosua in less than 24 hours 😂 I went back a few months later this time I actually stayed for the full time but can’t say I left the apartment 😢 regret it so much now I’m gonna learn Spanish and give my self a actually trip to Santo Domingo
I was paranoid my phone was gonna get stolen or die and I wouldn’t be able to get back to my air b&b where my passport was plus none of my air b&b had safes and I didn’t really trust the hosts to just leave it in the rooms but still no excuses
I don't work for a company here. My work is based in the US.
Am I correct in saying that Santo Domingo Este is a little, calmer than Districo Nacional?
I think that's a fair assessment.
I'm heading to Santo Domingo in May 2025, looking for that Sosua feel. Where should I go?
Sosua
@ So, no night life similar to Sosua?
Yo do you consider Boca Chica a tourist spot for Americans? I ve been there 3 times and only met Americans once. There was some Asian and i guess Europeans.
Yes, I do. Definitely a lot of Europeans there too.
it looks like NY to me..
Definitely got that feel..
Hello Im traveling to Santo Domingo this Friday can you tell me about the area with Hotel Catalonia please?
What would you like know?
@@JayAbroad Is the area I'm going to be in dangerous? What outdoor activities are there in Santo Domingo being that is it the Capitol city?

Hey brother I want to know if I can ask you a few questions
1. If my finance has a tourist Visa can we get married here in the United States? I know you’re not a immigration lawyer but if you know one can you send me their information
2. I plan on moving there and I love watching your videos
