Wow, Naco looks very liveable and quiet, perfect for a 3-month stay every year for me and the family! Thanks for showing this wonderful city of Santo Domingo.
Not to long ago Naco was a really expensive neighborhood with big big houses, the face of Naco changed for those towers buildings but still a nice area to live.
We gotta do something about them cables on the streets; they make those nice areas look really bad; I heard the Mayor has an ambitious plan to place them underground, especially in the Piantini and Naco areas, but it comes at a huge cost; hundreds of millions of dollars, but it can be done; all it takes is the will power, bc the resources are there. Great video, man, as always. Take care.

Jay, as an American-Dominican looking to move over there some day, do you think it is better to own or rent? … And if you had to put Piantini, Naco and Bella Vista in order from best to least best, in what order would you put them?
Piece of advice... It´s safer to walk with your camera or phone in the mains streets, specially in Naco (Tiradentes or Ortega&Gasset Avenue). Since there is more movement usually they won't mog you there. Now, walking on those lonely streets makes you an easy target.
Hi Jay, thanks for the walk thru of Naco, it has to be top 5 neighborhoods to live in the city?? I have a question, I li e in NJ and am looking to purchase something there but I want to start making payments from here. Which bank or banks can I use to deposit here to transfer there ?? That you can recommend?? Thanks Jay, keep living up that life!!
Yes, Naco is the top 4 Neighborhoods in the city. You can use any bank in the States and wire the money to your perspective bank in DR. Good banks here are Banreservas, Popular, Banco Santa Cruz, BHD Leon, and Scotiabank. We bank with all except Popular.
So let's say backpack with the Macbook to coffee shops daily to work - I'm going to get robbed if I do that for a few months? Have to take a taxi every time? Thoughts? (Would kind of kill my interest in living there :( I had not walking.)
Brother, walking with a backpack is very different than walking around vlogging with a camera. I see so many people walking with backpacks. I hope I didn't give that impression that its like that. I don't feel my life is in danger when I walk the streets here. I feel completely safe everywhere I go.
Godbless you brother 😎💪🏾💯🙏🏿 I appreciate the tour ...I wld love to come to Santo Domingo..D R I have a good friend who lives in that city ..wanting to learn about the cost of living out there I'm a photographer & independent recording rap artist...from the state
04:23 Naco is nice in an urban style. Are there any nice places in a suburban style or single-family house style? What about those new communities under construction in Punta Cana that are selling for $60K - $90K USD, are they real or a scam? And, are you guys buying one? 11:23 So true. You can't lift anyone up if you're down there with them.
The prices are real but look at it as the "starting project deal" type of thing, before construction is that price but it always goes up and there may be delays so you end up paying more to close the project (materials go up to etc).I recommend buying a finished apartment, but if you feel like waiting go for something small and cheaper starting at 40k to 50k with expectations to rise 30% more. Also, get a good lawyer to review the contract and make sure it's a reliable construction company with many projects finished and a long time in the market.
@@TheVanessa2025 Wow. I didn't know that about the "starting project deal" prices. Glad I listened to my instincts. Thank you for the advice. I agree.
A lot of the time when you get robbed in the high end areas, it's because they've been checking you out for a minute, to see how you move, who you are, and what you normally wear and where you live, etc. I mean, I'm not saying that someone wouldn't just randomly roll up on you, and it's always best to be safe, because I'm the same way, but I do think it's still that US mentality that's still ingrained within our system and the motor bikers that make it feel like it's unsafe. The reason why I say this, is because you can clearly see the amount of wealth there is in these areas, criminals aren't just rolling around everywhere, because these are secure areas of city.
Great video. Thanks for it. But like you asked I’ll tell you what I think. It appears walking outside it not promoted. Meaning there is no reason to walk outside because there is nothing but buildings, narrow streets, narrow sidewalks, massive traffic, no local stores easily walking distance. It seems everyone is stuck in their apartments or driving outside. The park looked lonely but you did say it was Election Day. Idk brother. I know you’re from Ft. Lauderdale so you know how this compares to the walk by downtown Dr Lauderdale. The streets are wider and more local places that encourages people to walk outside. Midtown, brickell, people stay outside walking. To me it’s not just about creating buildings. Gotta add value to the buildings by have a great first floor experience. Even NY they got bodegas and stuff outside. Again great video brother. I seen your eyes looking in all corners those are NY eyes watch every corner I’m familiar with that. Keep pushing content.
Hello, Nice channel. Like you said I live in NY "nice income" but the cost of live is to high and quality is too low. You made make thinking in doing the jump, my work is 100% online; my wife says she is not going back. But I am like, if he can make the jump, why not me. Good Luck and if I ever meet you in DR, let me buy a Presidente!
@@JayAbroad from Santo Domingo, Maybe she thinks that will be step backwards. I've done the numbers, with $140k house income in DR we can be debt free in less than a year, in another year will be able to buy property in DR/US no problem. I have some convincing to do. Yes
Godbless you brother 😎💪🏾💯🙏🏿 I appreciate the tour ...I wld love to come to Santo Domingo..D R I have a good friend who lives in that city ..wanting to learn about the cost of living out there I'm a photographer & independent recording rap artist...from the state
You should definitely come check it out to see how you like it.
Maybe I was lucky but that day after I went voting, I got to a colmado here in Santo Domingo Este and bought 4 Presidentes 😅
😅👍🏾
My man got a Banreservas account 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you are officially Dominican lmao
Lol...I actually have a Banco Santa Cruz account, I was just using the Banreservas ATM but I still think that makes me official.
Hi! Can you share some information about getting health insurance in DR? Thanks!
I recommend watching this video from my wife. ua-cam.com/video/cTfQg4pWjTM/v-deo.htmlsi=8rnZEax5fJD3RcFP
@@JayAbroad Thank you so much 🙏🏽
04:23 Naco is nice in an urban style. Are there any nice places in a suburban style or single-family house style?
What about those new communities under construction in Punta Cana that are selling for $60K - $90K USD, are they real or a scam? And, are you guys buying one?
11:23 So true. You can't lift anyone up if you're down there with them.
I don't know anything about the constructions you are referring to in Punta Cana. There are many projects going on there.
I agree.
7:20 anyway we can get a tour in that korean martet
It's a really small market. They won't let you record in there.
See no lies in this. Facts!
If your job is 100% remote I don't know why you have made the leap. Is your wife Dominican?
@@JayAbroad Yes, she is. Her job is not online (Teacher assistant). She will need to look for new job/income.
Why doesn't she want to move back? What part of DR is she from?
@@JayAbroad from Santo Domingo, Maybe she thinks that will be step backwards. I've done the numbers, with $140k house income in DR we can be debt free in less than a year, in another year will be able to buy property in DR/US no problem. I have some convincing to do. She not there yet. I love NY, but now you just have to look around.
@@caribe2k Brother my wife thought the same thing until she saw we were going to live better in DR than we were in the US. I understand your wife but you put her in one of these modern towers in Piantini and Naco and provide a 1st world lifestyle she wouldn't think twice about the US. My wife told me this past weekend, I'm glad we moved back, and I was looking at her like I told you...lol!
I wish the government would add more traffic Stopsigns.
yo man great video I live in Santo Domingo asswell im a local so if you need anything hit me up
Thanks bro, I appreciate that. What do you here? You work, retired, etc. You can reply here on by email iamjayabroad@gmail.com
To see a security guard where you are is a good thing. These are the good guys that keep the delincuentes away. Salute to that man keeping that area safe!🫡
My thoughts exactly.
Tu tiene mucho que no va a RD

I go to Smart Fit sometimes..
@@JayAbroad theirs many great brand gym options their 👍
Yep, I agree.
Santo Domingo looks like South Florida.
Yes, it does in a lot areas.
Hey Jay can you make a video of getting a remote work to go and live in DR because i really miss my country and want to go back 🥲
I have a video coming about different ways to make money online.
@@JayAbroad thank you i really appreciated you just got a new follower, like your style and content hope i can make the move soon to my motherland
Mr. Jay I use to live in avenida Frank feliz Miranda # 17 one block over from Centro Olimpico in Naco. My cousin owns that house and his son has a comedor witch is a cafeteria with Dominican food and very inexpensive. Stop by and buy some food and tell him that I sent you his name is Franklin.
Will do, what's the name of the restaurant?
@@JayAbroad Its on the side of the house and theirs a colmado right across from it. I don't think it has a name. He sells plate of the day between 12 & 3 pm every day.
I'll stop by there.
Yeah nodoubt
Naco, Gazcue, Piantini, Los Prados, Las Praderas, San Geronimo those are neighborhood of Upper Middle Class to Rich people in DR. I'm glad those are mostly occupied by Dominicans and not foreigners don't get me wrong everybody is welcome! just glad that gentrification hasn't kicked in yet like in other places like the US where locals get pushed out from people from other states with higher incomes.
As you stated many of the neighborhoods are occupied by rich Dominicans I doubt if a foreigner can push out someone who's already rich and own their property. Shouldn't really be a concern
Can you give me a range of what rent would be like there for a 3 bedroom two baths?
Where is there? In Naco? Or Santo Domingo in general?
@@JayAbroad Hey Jay. In Naco? I know where my family is at currently the if it is not the water is off the power is off or both at the same time!! I'm like what the heck!! Time to move!
@@KaiWenFranklin A three bedroom can run you around $1800 up to $2,200. But it really depends the type of tower, furnished, or unfurnished, etc the price can be more or less. What's your budget for accommodations?
@@JayAbroad Hey Jay I could do $1,800 to $2,200 but I would have to see it. I would love to invest in some property and have my own place. I have my eye on some property over there. To be honest I am thinking of getting a place in Miami then that way I can just shoot over to the DR at the drop of a dime.
@KaiWenFranklin bro, I say do what feels right for you. You can possibly find an apartment you are looking for with that budget.
In Naco you shouldn't be too worried of someone grabbing your camera. Of course I can't say it 100% wouldn't happen but chances are very low.
I agree certain areas in Naco of course. Anytime I'm carrying anything of value out in the open I take certain precautions. When I'm walking around Naco or anywhere in DR with 300 pesos on me no wallet just my ID, I'm never concerned.
In the 3 years you’ve lived in DR, have you visited the US? Or you don’t plan on coming anytime soon? lol
Yes, I've visted at least one time per year. But I try not to go if I can😅
