Escaping the Concrete Jungle

Just a short video of a little escape from the concrete jungle. I head off on an impulse and find a small local wood and relax with a brew on the bushbox. Much needed. Thanks for watching treksntarps1@gmail.com
Some British bush craft Spain alternatives ?
Переглядів 1,7 тис.8 місяців тому
Hello , this is a little vid of a few items I have bought from some British makers of traditional style bushcraft kit. I had been considering a few items from a company called Bushcraft Spain but due to costs and a wish to support "homemade" kit I got these bits , with a view to maybe getting some other bits that I have had my eye on. Swagroll camp.
Переглядів 1,2 тис.10 місяців тому
Hi, in this video I head off for a camp using the hobart swag and a heavy canvas tarp. It was a bit of a last minute thing and forgot a couple of things, my charger, and my ales 😂. It was still an enjoyable camp though and it was actually nice not bringing the ales but when I realised I didn't have my charger that put me off kilter a bit . Needed it for my phone and camera. However it was an en...

Hi. Off to the woods on a clear fresh late Autumn day. I head off to the woods for a chilled walk and a practice with some of my tools. I bring my cold steel trail hawk, Bahco laplander saw and a bps knife. These tools are useful , reliable and budget friendly. Thank you for Watching.
Establishing camp in the soaking wet woods

Off to the wet woods for a camp . Had a few camera issues . (Filmed the inside of my pack for 45 mins 😂, and left power bank and batteries at home) . But here is the footage I did manage. Thanks for watching and take care.

In the forest with the one tigris tangram .
Переглядів 591Рік тому
A pleasant little overnighter in the one tigris tangram trekking pole tent It did the job of sheltering me and keeping the mozzies out. I'm usually under a tarp or in an old skool tent without a bug mesh but this was a nice little change . Must say though that I do generally prefer a tarp or bit of canvas as my shelter but horses for courses sometimes Thanks for watching treksntarps1@gmail.com ...
Traditional kit wildcamp/ Battling the bugs.

Hi, in this vid a little impromptu walk and wildcamp using the old canvas and wool blanket. It was during the 2 weeks of summer we experienced back in early/mid June. It was a a nice camp but i was invaded by the mozzies and went home resembling Mr. Bobby. Thanks for watching treksntarps1@gmail.com Music by:

Just discovered your channel mate, I like it 👍 I looked at Bushcraft Spain stuff too but thought the same as you re costs etc.
@@duskymoonuk Nice one , thank you. Yeah the bushcraft Spain stuff does look good ( and keeps tempting me 😜) but it is very pricey. . Take care 👍🏕️
@treksntarps I'm sold on the Outhaus stuff, will save some pennies and get buying! I live near the new forest so will look forward to trying it all out 😀
@duskymoonuk Enjoy. Haven't looked on their site in a while. But stuff I have is good 👍
Great content, what is a jungle knot?
@@JO-rk5gu Thank you . A jungle knot is basically a line (like paracord ) that has a series of loops tied into it. It is a handy way to set up ridge lines, tie outs and for hanging things on . Here is a link to a video on them. .ua-cam.com/video/2pAe1C1YMWo/v-deo.html There are others 👍. Take care and once again , thank you 👌🏕️
@@treksntarps Thank you very much!
Enjoyed that, just found your channel so looking forward to watching the rest of your videos 👍🏼
@@RosinDubh37713 Thank you. Hope you enjoy . 👍🏕️
Thank you for explaining so simply! Super easy to understand 👍
@@anthonylayden1746 No worries. Thanks for watching 🏕️👍
Nice one Mark.... I like to think that because I'm 'well armed' that I should be avoided. (A hatchet/knife/catapult) Good on ya pal😉👌
@@garphykeks Thank you . Yep a few tools to look after yourself if needed. Much prefer to not have the need though . Take care and thanks for watching 👍🏕️
Think Jaeger is "hunter"?
@@T5Zplayer Yes . I think that's right. Thanks for watching ,take care. 👌🏕️
Tarps are a million times better than tents. I can pack a tarp that takes up half the space and set it up in half the time, which essentially does the exact same job. Tents are for novice campers. I honestly can't see a pro to a tent over a tarp other than them massive 6 man tents if you require that type of space.
Very educational/iinformative, without being pedantic. I ordinarily hang in a hammock, but I still enjoy learning about “ground-dwelling,” as I call it, and this was very helpful. Thank you for sharing. Be safe, and enjoy the forest.
@@t.davidgordon2425 Thank you very much . Haven't tried hammock camping overnight but it's on my to do list . Take care 👍🏕️
Very interesting and practical video (not just a listing of features). I think a very nice upgrade can be (lil ?) larger versions of the poncho and the swagman, to have a real good summer sleeping system (not too tight and I am not a super huge man in any means ^^)
Thank you . Yes the swagman roll is a little tight in sleeping bag mode but doable. I sometimes combine it with a wool blanket and it works well if it's not really cold. Take care 👌🏕️
I like tarp setups with a floor. The ground is almost always at least damp.
Yeah. I normally lay a ground sheet down under my sleep system . Not always though, depends on what your sleep system is Thanks for watching and take care 👍🏕️
Always good to have options. It does have the advantage of being enclosed. A tarp that is a tent wannabe . . . but it works.
@@ThomasSpearman-g3y Thank you. Yep it works. Not perfect for every situation but a handy option. Take care 👍🏕️
Can i ask you what stove / fire that is please.Great video ,very relaxing and some good skills
Thank you . It's the uco folding fire pit. I've seen some people using a similar thing which is actually a fruit bowl. Take care and thanks for watching 🏕️👍
Does that wind break/reflector thing bounce much heat back and does it pack light? Useful if it does kick the heat back with a basha. I also use a bush box style stove and if it was really cold and you had plenty of fuel I can imagine as long as you feed it something like that could work
Yes mate it is reflective and kicks back a fair amount of heat. The old twig stove does need nearly constant tending if you want it for a constant heat source though. Take care and thanks for watching 👍🏕️ Take care and t
Found your channel tonight. Commented on an older one. I suspect this is good for your mental health. I feel like I really need to get out at the moment. I haven’t done this since my youngest was born. I think 1 or 2 nights with my kits and a little radio a brew kit a few tins and a smoke and just be in nature and decompress would do me a world of good. Living vicariously through you watching this vid tonight. Would love to be out there somewhere right now! Love your vids man ✌🏻
Thank you. Yes it does help me reset and put things into perspective. Life can be so rushed and stressful and half the time there is no need for it to be. Hope you manage to get out now and then ,even if it's for a wander and a little stop off somewhere in the daytime. Take care and thank you for watching 🏕️👍
Nice man. I’ve been meaning to get out lately. Wish I’d gone tonight. Bit late now and can’t really do it on a Sunday coz of work on Monday. Maybe you’ve inspired me for next weekend 👍🏻
😂 Mate I know what you mean. Difficult to find time sometimes. Always good when you do though. Hope you get out soon . Take it easy 👌🏕️
the axe I didn't like at first till you removed the head it could be use for going stealth camping and for light bushcraft but I would rather just have my hatchet witch is about 17 inch i do like the Bahco laplander and will be getting one as i need a new one :)
Yes the trail hawk is good for lighter tasks and lighter carry. More laborious with larger tasks though. I get on ok with the Laplander . Does the job with anything up to about wrist thick sticks Take care and thanks for watching 👍🏕️
Thank you . Yes the trail hawk is good for smaller tasks and a lighter carry. The Laplander hasn't let me down and is good for anything up to around wrist thick logs/ sticks. Take care and thank you for watching 👌🏕️

Picked one of these up earlier this summer. Sadly, I have only taken it out on an inaugural road ruck for 2 miles, 1 time. Due to work. But, I love the simplicity of it, and the streamlined design!
Hope you manage to make some more use of it soon . Take care and thank you 👍🏕
Whereabouts is this it looks really nice
Its in Thetford forest , yes there are some nice spots there . Take care and thanks for watching 👌🏕
That would not work here in S FL, BUGS, BUGS, BUGS!!!
No its not ideal for all circumstances but you could always throw a ground sheet down , use a sleeping bag with a bug mesh and maybe use some repellent and citronella candle or 2 . To be honest I'm not sure if all that would work . Might do . Anyway , thank you for watching 🏕👍
Nice video, thank you. I love my Snugpack Jungle bag, which I've used with the British Army Bivvy at near zero degrees. My only problem was the same as yours, the zip snags more often than not. I've also got the blanket, which I close with self adhesive and use as a cover for the bag. I'm a hot sleeper and used the bag, blanket and bivvy combo down to -1.
Thank you. You are a hot sleeper. I tend to get a bit nippy with the jungle bag at around 9 degrees . Thats with it on its own though. . Still occasionally use it but not so much as the bug net zip broke and that was the main reason I bought it. To use under a tarp in bug season . Anyway thank you for watching. Take care 👍🏕
@@treksntarps, I've only used it with the British Army bivvy bag. I read that the bivvy adds about 5°C to a bag's ability. If you double it up with the jungle blanket, it gets very warm.
Thanks for the video. A good set-up. Not too complicated.
You're welcome . Thank you for watching 👌🏕
For some reason, the birds are like 5 times louder than you. If I turn the video up loud enough to hear you, the birds are really blasting my ear drums.
Sorry . I'm not the best with some of the aspects. If I make anymore videos I will try and bear that in mind . Thanks for watching though. Take care 👍🏕

I got one a few weeks ago, mine hasnt got the pocket on the front!!

How did the Swagman Roll and wool blanket perform during your night in the forest, and what were your impressions of their comfort and durability? Also, are you on Facebook / Insta? I'd love to connect and hear more about your outdoor camping experiences and insights! Let's keep in touch!
Hi . The swagman and wool blanket worked together nicely on that occasion . Had the swagman half open like a quilt first half of the night then went in to sleeping bag mode. A bit tight but ok. The durability is fairly good , not as a robust as a wool blanket but does the trick . Not sure how the combo would work in colder conditions without a fire. Just have to test these things out I suppose. I am on insta. Take care and thanks for watching 🏕👍
The bear will just trample that tent and you cannot get out !

Well done on the Char cloth Mark me old mucker, if we all got everything right on the first attempt life would be so boring. Look forward to seeing you put your new kit to use at some point mate. Dig a hole for your hip.
Think im just going to pad it out a little better next time. But thanks I have heard thats an option . 👍🏕
Quick tip for you. Put Basha or Tarp in this title and you get more hits. The crawler looks for these key words when people like me search for this type of outdoors stuff. I only found you yesterday and have subscribed as I am a tarp guy.
Thanks for the tip, and the sub . Take care 🏕👍
Love your Basha vids
👍🏕 Thank you .
I never camp inside trees because of midges. I always camp on flat soft grass when I can. I also use meths and the Swiss army stove. It’s never let me down.
Nice . I do like the forest but see your point . Depends on what kit you have and time of year I suppose . Take care 🏕👍
I’d say leave the flaps out and have an extra tarp for ground cover Flaps out would shed off any water I’m doing this this weekend Can’t wait
Yeah always adaptions to suit your preferences with a tarp. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching 🏕👍

What a lovely overnighter mate very mellow. Excellent gear and set up, I've not tried a wool blanket yet, I've got one but I've got to dye it this weekend as it is white 😂 You've got a lovely spot there mate thanks for taking us along 👍
Cheers bud. Yeah , it was nice . Always yearn for other places but I am lucky to have that forest nearby . Do like using a wool blanket , have their pros and cons though. Take care mate and good luck with dyeing your blanket 😂 👍 🏕

Thank you Mr. Cattys. I find it a useful bit of kit . Did the trick that night. Take care Sir 🏕 👌
That was a great, interesting camp Mark. And some interesting comparisons on the use of different types of gear. We all dream of heading off into the horizon, camping along the way Mate. Cheers 👍
Thank you Giles. Yes it would be nice to just be able to head off wander, camp ,wander camp for a few days Was a really nice time out though so should be thankful for what I can do instead of mulling over what I can't . Anyway hope you are good . Appreciate the view mate . Take care 👌🏕
Mark, making char cloth is quite easy really. There's loads of different tutorials on UA-cam for making char cloth. You're right in that you need 100% cotton material, after that it's just about heating it until it stops smoking. Let it cool down, have a quick check that's all burnt and your ready to go. Was interesting to see what happened to yours. 🙂 You're right in that you can use punkwood also. Charwood lasts longer with an ember, which I have found to be better for a birds nest. It's all good fun learning though, i've made loads of learning opportunities for myself also.
Nice one , thank you. I did manage to make some char recently. Looking forward to testing it out. I think I'll keep it simple and just use cotton for a while then experiment with other materials . Thank you for your feedback . Take care 👌🏕
Nice video Mark, enjoyed the simplicity of the camp setup. Just a solid simple camp outside enjoying the peace and calm of nature.
Thank you Mike. Indeed mate , it was a simple relaxing one for sure. Take care 👍🏕
