THERE WILL BE SPOILERS And so it comes to pass. I've been trying to push through this for quite some time but Aquilo has finally dealt the death blow. I have a lot of plans for how I would do this differently and sometimes those plans gather a momentum that can't be stopped without actually committing to the plans. That is where we are. For what it's worth Aquilo is simply beautiful.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS This is a new day and this is a new game. The general implications of space age on how we play the game, how we strategise, what we are able to build at any moment, are all far reaching and different from before. It requires a different mindset and a different set of priorities. It is entirely likely that it will take several playthroughs before I feel like I have a compl...

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS I went shopping in the rock aisle of the music store for this episode. I gotta use all the top drawer stuff I can find, it is not unlimited. I digress. A bit of time in Vulcanis before concluding that worms were maybe a little too powerful for me and so we go to Gleba. Oh boy. Gleba. I could make a whole video about the subject...

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS We go to Vulcanis. Or, we make several attempts to get to Vulcanis with several new challenges along the way. Regardless, we get there and everything is new. Which is kinda what we expected. And what we hoped for. The learning continues

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS And so we begin on another journey. A new and much anticipated one. There's no beating around the bush here, this is a thing I, and I am sure you, have been excited about for quite some time. THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. We are going to be talking about anything that happens to cross my mind, it won't be everything by any means but if you want to experience this game for yours...

In general vanilla play I don't use modules. There are reasons for this. In non-general non-vanilla play I do use modules. There are reasons for this also. Let's get into it.

I get a bit sentimental here, I guess that's the power of music. This is turning into one hell of a journey. More science, a trip to Callidus to process some beryllium and then onto Jura, my vitamelange planet, to deal with the item I've been ignoring for a couple hundred hours now. More to do.

On and on we go, the space journey that never ends. Or at least that's how it feels sometimes. I can see the end, it's there, but between me and it are a few pretty big mountains and I can't really see how big they are at the moment. I've just gotta keep plugging away. The final frontier is out there somewhere.

We finally deal with the science. It is not trivial. The science in these mods are a monumental challenge and they take time to get right. Hence the 78 hours of game time this episode covers. We also sort out holmium and discover a structure and, while these things are interesting and relevant, in the case of the mystery structure potentially exciting, but our progress through the game is measu...

I'm pretty sure we pass the half way point in this video. I hope so anyway. If we haven't then I'm in big trouble. What that should mean is that the number of indeterminate parts to this timelapse series is starting to not be indeterminate. 6 or 7 parts I reckon when all's said and done, but don't quote me on that. To the factory, we build more stuff. A lot of that stuff is in Orbit and some of...

Progress towards the ultimate goal mostly pauses in this episode while we deal with rocket throughput. We need a lot of things in space and the mechanism I've built for achieving that is not perfect. It gets a much needed upgrade. In other news, the first hints of performance problems are making themselves known. It isn't significant, we are talking moments of lag spread of many hours of perfec...

Off we go on another tour. This week's volunteer is Verdant. I don't really know what to put here to be honest. Usually I try and point out all the mistakes I made during the filming and the editing but it all went smoothly. For the most part anyway. We slog on. Maybe it's just me but it feels like we finally crest the mountain in this episode, that maybe the bulk of the work is done and now it is about joining all the individual pieces together on the downhill part of the journey. But maybe we're just waiting for the fog to clear from the next peak and our pain is only now beginning. One way or the other we continue.

Biggus Footus. I enjoy your content. Especially that you’re “self-taught” and don’t just build things the same way as everyone else. Good stuff, friendo.
Tell me that you have no idea how belts work without telling me…
20:23 There is no thing to have to much railway. :P
In my base once i want to walk in train territory i just summon my personal train and get around that way. Usually faster too. You can even have personal robots deploy the train with fuel
Did they fix loading sprite glitch? If not pls upload more of this😊
31:45 How about doing elevated rails over the bus here, then you can free up the walking space
Goddamn. The alternating placement on branches of walls and concrete looks sick. Must be soo time consuming to run back and forth for that effect.
Yes, but it is never not worth it
How do you get the pipes to not interact and stay straight when they are next to each other?
Flow control - its a mod
you are a true conveyor belt artist. thank you for this video
How do you feel about foundries? The productivity gains from replacing your furnaces with foundries are kind of nuts. Without modules, five of them consume as much ore as 10 electric furnaces while producing plates equivalent to 22.5 electric furnaces and consuming the equivalent of just under 66 furnaces worth of power (not taking account of the 25% idle time of the 4th foundry casting plates which can be amortized by adding more production). With efficiency modules and beacons 66 can go down to 13.2 (efficiency caps out at −80% - but I don't bother). And the foundry recipes for gears and copper wire are twice as efficient as producing from plates even before accounting for the inherent productivity. With the abundance of uranium on Nauvis I don't find power to be a significant factor, I'm much more concerned about resource patches running out. Space Age really gives a new lease of life to efficiency modules. They're essential on space platforms where power is at a premium. This video doesn't even mention beacons, without which I feel your entire argument is invalid. And of course you don't discuss quality at all, but that's ok since it wasn't a factor when you released this video and it's a very different discussion anyway.
I've just started a new playthrough and a very big part of the new plan is to upgrade to foundries on Nauvis. It's kind of a no brainer. Quality is something that deserves a video in it's own right but the fact that we now have to choose whether to do quality OR productivity changes the equation entirely. Pre space age I felt like everyone (apart from me) used productivity modules as far and wide as possible, post space age I feel like it's gonna be quality instead. A lot has changed though, it's difficult to see what is the optimum path anymore.
Cool
I'd really love a closer look at your factory. Looks very nice.
Let me finish Nauvis and I'll upload it no probs
Awesome builds.
Isn’t last problem solved better with circuits? I.e. smart loaders?
Love the base design I feel like some UA-camrs go really hard on making efficient bases and they always just look kinda ehh but I always love seeing bases that are well-designed and aesthetically pleasing
You are my new favorite Factorio player. The absolute artistry and elegance of your designs goes really well with the tangible, real, human frustration and excitement I hear in your voice. I feel bad for laughing when you get all worked up. (I just saw your new playthrough video and had to come back and watch these ones)
You and I are playing different games
Good to see you back with another shot. Alternative takes on Factorio design are always a must see.
About 26:40. I can't describe how satisfying that looks, to see all of those belts filled. Myself, I hardly plan my factory ahead of time, and I can never get things looking quite so organized. Nice work!
How do you capture you game like this?
TLBE - It's a mod. I even have a tutorial ua-cam.com/video/cAcba1zo5mg/v-deo.html
My OCD is happy man. Great too see ya have a go at this again. 10/10 -will follow-
35:07 this is not about chip's weight, its about volume of bubble wrapper you need to securely transport it up.
Just expand your wall beyond the pollution cloud. You won't even need a crazy gun wall then.
As someone who is trying to build something heavily inspired by this but based more on trains than belts, before leaving Nauvis, there is just so much stuff you have to acount for, if you never done stuff like this before, it doesnt help that im alergic to doing all the math that i should be doing before that. I cant imagine how long you have spent actually developing all the systems for your building style. So whatever i end up with will atleast look nice. I always started to build bigger bases but sooner or later lost interest because i like to be researching while doing stuff and by the time i figured what i want to do i had researched everything and didnt have the motivation to continue, but with space age there is still so much to look forward to. I could have left Nauvis 40h ago but im still having fun there.
You will almost definitely want to make efficiency 2 on Nauvis both for space platforms and potentially for an early Fulgora base.
Im very curious to see how you are going to integrate the foundries n things into your base design :D I'm also loving the monorail design, definitely made notes about that one !
I rarely if ever comment on youtube videos. I can really hear the dissapoinment at not being able to get the 'Perfect' timelapse, from a viewer perspective i did not even notice the frame loss tbh. Keep up the work, you seem so sincere and echoed the very same anxieties i had on my first playthrough. It really is a brand new game.
I am confused. Where did he get the materials for the first huge things? The base only started to produce anything at like 2:30, but there was so much stuff built already!
it seems as tho he just got it from handfed/low tech smelting, wouldnt be suprised if some time was edited out or sped up more then other footage but overall it looks normal in terms of stuff over time
Trains also provide guaranteed flow. If one train can't being enough resources to the unload station to guarantee a constant flow, you can just add more trains to the same unload station.
I have the same with factorio. The start is so painful, but as soon as I have some robots and I have my base build in my head it’s making so much fun😅
What is the song that starts at 36:15? It's really good.
Sonic Waves by Dmytro Somov (motion array) motionarray.com/royalty-free-music/sonic-waves-2784298/
The new rails look amazing, and the pipe mods and helmod work again! We are so back ladies and gentlemen, can’t wait for the next episode!
Sacrilege, there is no such thing as too much railway! 😅
sexy block creator, absolute legend😎
too much walls
God it's so pretty i just can't look away
Loving space age so far, saying my gleba base is struggling would be generous.
"I'm a little bit outside of my comfort zone" I think that should be the tag line for Space Age. It makes you deal with new problems and your old solutions don't work anymore. Good on you for restarting, looking forward to the improvements you make. (:
do you have a guide on your blocks? (the layout of your rectangle factories)? not the assembler placement with belt video, but the size of the overall rectangle, etc and your thoughts on your choices?
The question you are asking is deep and complicated. It is part of a subject which I have written several scripts to try and address but have not been able to get right. The best answer I can give you right now is to trust your gut. Pick a block size that you think is about right, try it out, see how you feel about it and next time you build another factory do the same again. Once you have done this a few times you'll start to get a feel for what works for you. Which will no doubt be slightly or completely different from what I do. It's your factory, trust your gut with how you feel about it. To go one step further, I've been playing this game for years now and pretty much since day 1 I've been trying to squeeze factories into tight spaces. The more I do it the better I get. I can only give so much advice when part of the answer lies in a lot of hard work, of attempting and failing and learning.
Always great to see a bigfoot upload :D
I have to compliment your elegant layout. It's impressive to see such a clean, precision style right from the start of a base build. Thankyou for posting.
You should see how he plays Factorio. Video on his channel. First, make sure your sanity points are high...
Should be some way to have doors open and close if train is coming. Think I saw Kathrine have it years ago edit. nevermind you did it :)
Great video ! But what's the song at 1:50 ?
Manifested - Ryan Jon Smith (motion array) motionarray.com/royalty-free-music/manifested-2944427/
the max belt length i think was talked about in a fff but later removed.
Not even 10 min in and you got a really good starter. Nice :)
Love the weaving effect with the inserters in the starting smelting columns!!! One thing I've noticed in my games, the bigger the starting area, the further away the first resource patches (outside of the initial ones) are too.
Bro still allergic to bots
Why doesn't he use bots?
While I'm glad that you found back to your comfort zone, I just hope you are not too tied to the way you did things in the past. It's obvious you're using builds you're very used to, it might hinder you in reinventing some things though. Just a thought, you do you of course :) Great video, and I love your choice of music!
oh boy here we gooooooo
I can't believe you are not using bots to build all this, straight up rawdogged an absolute unit of a base you're a mad lad
You’re obviously new here lol
i can imagine the dark eye circles on this dude
