Coin Roll Hunting Canadian Pennies! 114 Year-Old Penny from the Bank!
Переглядів 1,9 тис.21 день тому
My last penny hunt was ABSOLUTELY EPIC! I couldn't wait to dive in and see if we could find more gems! Pennies are hard to get in Canada - the banks are supposed to send them back to the Mint to be melted down. Boooo!!! As a collector, that's terrible. It's a loss of history, and robs collectors of potentially rare and valuable collectibles! However, some banks will sell them. To find out if yo...

If you watch my channel, you know I absolutely *LOVE* hunting Canadian pennies - when I can get them. The penny was last produced in 2012 and the Mint is actively removing them from circulation. Interesting! I've only ever seen references to the text as "Dutch," (Numista as an example), but I found a Wikipedia article that specifically says "Flemish Dutch" in the first reference, but as the article continues, it simply refers to the text as "Dutch" from then on. I'll remember this. Thanks for letting me know!

    With one batch of silver/billon coins I put the coins in the jar first and then poured in enough acetone to cover them, the liquid turned blue. And it was only that batch. I'd done the bathing run as an experiment while reading a book outdoors, but with winter coming, I'm looking at doing this indoors. Just how paranoid should I get about ventilation? I can do this stuff in the garage, but insulation is becoming a greater concern in the waning months of the year than ventilation. The containers I use are 10cl glass jars with enameled steel lids. And since the time requirement for a bath has been ranging from minutes to days on various forums, I bathed most coins on my trial run with a 20min bath and put any coins with any remaining gunk on them back in. Unfortunately, there were still some iron and copper coins that had something on them, but that could be regular corrosion.

    • @CADRollHunter
      @CADRollHunter 4 дні тому

      I think as long as you have the jars sealed, you're probably fine. Acetone will evaporate quickly, so leaving the lid off will dissipate the liquid into gas and you'll certainly want ventilation for that. Interested to hear how your next batch goes. Keep us updated!!

    Only 1947 quarter I have is a 1947 Washington Quarter (forget which mint mark). Already mentioned my oldest Canadian Silver Quarter. Surprised I found a KG V Quarter in the U.S. still

    Ah yes, the maple leaf on this coin is the coin produced in the following year. Most of the 1-year coins that are still produced are usually frozen.

      Keep looking - they're out there for sure! I've had better luck with dimes, for sure, though.

    Nice bud! I got 2 silver dimes in my change from coffee few weeks back one 1950 dime and one 1968 dime 😎 big fan of the 68s due to the 3 varieties minted ✌️

      I can't tell the difference between the American mint and Canadian mint 1968 dime, I've looked at many guides and reddit has tried to explain it to me, I'm just dumb or something lol

      It's all about the edge. The Philadelphia-minted dimes used the US collar and has flat reeding, rather than v-shaped reeding. Granted, it's hard to tell without a microscope!

      It requires some patience - there's definitely still silver out there, but it will be few and far between. But when you do find one (or another one), you'll feel that rush!!

    I got a collection dump of nickels once, about 15 kg5 nickels, all common dates though, but a 1913 buffalo nickel in maybe xf shape, the buffalo nickel may be my best coin
