I've never ordered from the US Mint, but having watched a bunch of US UA-camrs, they all said they were also cancelling their orders. Glad to see you're getting slightly better packaging this year for the money. I guess its in line with the Canadian Peace Dollar pricing at $150 Canadian. I just love the Canadian one a lot more with the Selective Gold plating :)
I admit I was tempted to jump on board with the Morgan and Peace dollars back in 2021 but am now thankful I didn’t. It appears the Mint is going to keep releasing these as long as people will buy them, diluting what was special about the 100th anniversary release. This could stretch on for a decade or longer, perhaps eventually having a longer run than the original Peace dollars had. If someone is enjoying these modern commemoratives, more power to them. Personally I’m happier with collecting real Peace dollars from the 1920s and 1930s… and for less money too!
Hi, I had a situation where I was charged duty for some bullion that I purchased and there is an appeal process that you can follow to contest the charge and get a refund. I submitted mine a couple of months ago and am still waiting for a decision, however.... It does take time 🙂
I received both my Peace and Morgan 2024 today (in the US). Both arrived in excellent shape and I was pleased with them but just like you James I canceled my subscription after I received them. The mint played very dirty this year with the price hikes. About a month ago they mailed out their catalogue and the prices for each were listed at $76 (not estimated prices, actual). Just over a week before these went on sale is when they announced the price increases via email and their web page. I could have canceled then but decided since I had these budgeted I would get them. Not very customer friendly IMO. Last year they sold out of both in less than an hour, this year, as of today's sales report, they still have over 100k of each left. They cost themselves a boatload of sales on these and other products because of this.
And honestly, while silver has increased in price, the silver they used in these coins was purchased long ago, and for less than current spot... did they really need to hike the price by 20% with just over a week's notice? I wonder how many cancelled when they got that email!
I had enrolled in the Subscription Service after the 2021 coins were mailed out. I ordered the Morgans with the 'O' and 'CC' privy marks. I wish I would have ordered the one with the 'D' privy mark before the price in the secondary market show up. But for some reason, my order for 2023 was never filled and by the time I found out, the issues were totally sold out and I had to pay a premium to my local coin dealer to get the Uncirculated and Proof coins I missed. I still need the reverse proof for 2023. This year I received a notification that my Subscription was going to be filled. Although the price tag is high, I'm looking at the coin's beauty, not the value.
I personally think the US Mint should have just stopped at the 100th anniversary and called it a day. But, I am reluctantly still maintaining my subscriptions because I would like to have the whole set of these modern issues and do not want to have to pay secondary market prices whenever possible. My only hope is that the Mint discontinues them in the very near future due to lack of interest, as I have also been growing increasingly disappointed in the Mint’s pricing vs quality vs mintage.
See people keep complaining about the price hike but if you pay attention they up the price from each coin I only got the proof and it was 87 each so it’s no big deal
@@CADRollHunter I guess my point is everything has went up everything and nobody is boycotting that stuff and like I said I paid 87 or 89 for the proof Morgan and peace so few bucks is not big deal plus they improved the package
I cancelled my subscription last year after fighting with customs. I finally got paid back for one order but not the other. I gave up. Remember, it's not only the illegal duty, it's also the UPS charges for their trouble. It makes the coins insanely expensive. I just bought 8 British Sterling proof crowns for spot, a much better buy.
Absolutely - If the Mint simply and properly labelled the packaging as bullion, I wouldn't have to pay the duty. Last year, by some miracle, I only had to pay on half of my packages. This year, I was 2 for 2 on duty! Crazy!
Yup ,got mine intact...by paying an extra $15 for a $1 clam case.. Last year i graded one unseen..came back MS 70 WITH Same type of Hole mark, but this one was on the Face...(and it was graded 70?) Im done with the Mint...I'll just buy graded coins on secondary... BTW Anyone have any 2024 D Nickles?
Agreed - I'm fine to pay more for limited release collector coins, but within reason. I''m not much a fan, really, of commemmoratives, but the Morgans and Peace appeal to me because of the history.
@@CADRollHunter me too but I’ll stick to buying the older ones. Yes they might not be a Troy ounce of silver but they are way more affordable. That being said someday the newer Morgan and Peace dollars will be worth a lot of money because of the low mintage
The U.S. mint pricing has gotten way out of hand, just like every part of our government. They are nice coins but they are not worth it.Their value drops quicker than a osed car.😢😢😮😮 :::
I used to live in the US and this would happen to us sometimes. What we worked out was that UPS is the problem with the C.O.D., not a duty charge. I don't know if you can opt to have it delivered via USPS instead, but USPS does not charge an extra delivery fee when they transfer it to Canada Post. It should differentiate it in the paper work though. The duty charges are not usually C.O.D. You usually have to pay an agent that is not a company like UPS.
UPS charges the 13% tax on behalf of the government, and then charges a fee on top of that to adminster the duty. If the gov't doesn't charge the duty, UPS doesn't charge the fee. The USPS would likely do the exact same thing.
Stunning additions, James! Those are stunners, for sure. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful coins. Yikes on the COD. Well wishes on your coin collecting venture.
Thanks so much, Ogir!!
Me Too, I canceled all the Morgan & Peace dollars, last year I got three of each, mintage & price too high, Keep Stackin Bro
Yup - you've got to know when to draw the line!

I wish I had bought the Canadian Peace Dollar. Very beautiful!
Enjoy

You make an excellent point - you can get really nice Morgans and Peace dollars that are over 100 years old for less money than these ones!
My 2023 Peace Dollar had a tiny little pock mark as well, but on the reverse.
That's unfortunate! I'm sorry about that - I certainly relate!

I've got to to download that form and see if I can get my cash back. These coins are expensive enough as they are!

As long as there's money to be made, I guess...

The Morgan and Peace Proof Coins will be $95 each this year. That's still almost a 10% increase!

I never did apply for the refund, but it sounds like it's an uphill battle!
Very nice, James! To rich for my blood. The duty is a joke. Shipping north of the boarder is shocking enough. You should not have to pay duty.

I cancelled everything except Innovation Dollars, before the mint raised prices. Juice ain’t worth the squeeze IMHO.
Thanks for weighing in!
It's a beautiful coin, but the price is a little ridiculous. I prefer the 90%originals

Wow - you lucked out with the MS 70, but that's pretty crazy. If someone could pick between a flawless MS 70 and your impaired coin... well....
The US Mint just charges way too much money. I can understand charging a slight premium because it’s silver bullion but they take it to an extreme.

Keeping my subscriptions but not happy with the price increase.
Hope you get some beauties!

It's probably a wise thing you canceled your subscription. Sounds like they've been robbing you blind for years
No doubt!! I should mint my own silver coins and charge a premium!! ;)
US mint is garbage these days. The quality has dropped significantly since 2020
They've definitely had some issues, that's for sure!
I Cancelled after not getting the 2021!! The U S Mint doesn't care about collectors!!
You ordered but they never came in? Did you have to pay?
@@CADRollHunter Nope did not pay! Had a Sub & they never mentioned Renewing Card # ! They did me a Favor after all. lol
duty? wow, CANADA really is FUCKED up!
It's really on the US Mint. If they properly labelled it as .999 fine silver, there would be no duty.
