Spring 2024 Hollerwood cleanup ride with Kentucky Krawlers 4x4 Club
On this day we joined one of our clubs (Kentucky Krawlers) for the annual spring cleanup ride in Hollerwood Offroad Adventure Park. There were several groups, we were in the "Easy" group. You will see it is not always easy and green trails are not always green as they do have wear and tear as well as weather that can affect the trails. We met a stock Cherokee that wasted to "stick to the green trails and you will be fine". Not really, they got stuck between obstacles and luckily one of the folks in our group got them out of there. I f you are not familiar, I would not do any trails alone and they can be markedly different from one time to the next. Hollerwood is a fee park, contact them through their website or Facebook for passes.

Well I attempted to do this install myself. I had heard horror stories about broken bolts, cutting up floorboard, etc. After watching MANY videos on the subject I thought I was ready. I previously tried to loosen this same bolt I broke with a 12 point socket and it just slipped on the head of the bolt. So I bought an induction heater, made sure to have a 6 point socket and my trusty 1/2 inch dr...

That obstacle at 17:30 is no joke! Very daunting if you are going up with a manual transmission truck! But a good spotter makes all the difference! That trail the rest of the way down is really a blast with the ruts that make you articulate fully. Thanks for cleaning up the area. My bag was FULL last time I was on the DBBB this spring.
Great videos, you inspired me to make the drive out there today and enjoy some trails in my truck for the first time.
Glad you had fun. Remember that even the easiest of trails have issues from time to time. In the recent past new Virginia Ridge rd has a washout all the way across the trail. The wooden bridge gets washed out completely from time to time until a permanent solution is made, which is in the works but with no timeline. Happy Trails!
Lots of mud, a ride for a good cause, a great reminder that Mother Nature does not care much for labels and will do what she wants! Also a reminder for folks to always clean up after themselves (but I suspect I’m preaching to the choir with the people who watch this channel)
Thanks, yeah we areaways picking up trash and I don't really show it much or I'd be doing it all the time.
Amazing how much trash people leave behind. I really don’t understand that mindset
Yeah, I don't get it either.
Happy 4th of July!
Happy Independence Day to you and yours too!
i like this angle
I like it too but I have to be careful token the camera out of harms way.
i think old fin castle will be fun and the water crossing just tops it off
The water crossings can be unpredictable in the rainy season. Yes they are fun and provide good video and pics.
just perfection from the music to the food thats america
Thank you, I appreciate it.
I’d like to do this trail when I make it up in a few months, creeks are my favorite
Give me a holler!
@@naturesglorycabin3792 I’ll definitely do that , looking like mid to late September for me
New logos look great. Decals are always intimidating to start with, but slow and steady wins!
Thanks, this video took several shoots & edits.
Nice video, Mark. Keep making the great vids!
Thanks, Glad you like them!
Great video as usual.
Thanks again!
This is a fantastic part 2. And a great video showcasing the area. Looks like it was an amazing day. And of course, that 4runner is rocking it 😎
Glad you liked it. This day was definitely different. Thanks.
Fantastic video. Way to change it up and give. A whole different perspective of the trail!
Thanks, that was what I was going for too!
I LIKE THIS CAMERA ANGLE
Thanks, I'm going to try to get more of it but I don't want to damage a camera!
@@naturesglorycabin3792 yes I can see that happening, it actually gives us the viewer a better perspective of how the trail truly is , great idea
Trying to mix it up and keep folks interested!
That was very cool! Makes those obstacles come to life a little better. It looks "easy" on 37's like you show...but when muddy, and unlocked on 32's, you've got your work cut out for you! Still not impossible, but not a walk in the park like you just did. Thank you!
Glad you liked it, I thought it might bring another "Point of View" to the make it look more like the real thing.
@@naturesglorycabin3792 it did just that
I don’t know who gets tired of seeing the trails, but they can kick rocks. Every time is different and I catch something different every time.
Thanks, I even think it gets boring so I try to make them as interesting as I can.
I don’t know who gets tired of seeing the trails, but they can kick rocks. Every time is different and I catch something different every time.
I think you accidentally commented the same twice. Doesn't bother me. Actually helps me!
The rain makes for a fun(but muddy) drive. Obviously showing some bias-that 4runner looked great! As always, thanks for giving background info on the trails, and how they change over time.
Thanks, It was a lot larger group and obviously I was not leading. We did get some decent pics and great scenery.
That is the worst feeling. New rails look great and hope they serve you well
I really thought I had it figured out too.
Off-roading and cooking-always excellent content! Keep the videos coming!
Gotta eat! Thanks!
Looking good!
It was great!
@@naturesglorycabin3792 ever thought about potato in microwave and then to grill! How long did you microwave first?
Actually I did microwave for about 7 minutes for those potatoes then just long enough to brown on the grill.
and that was on 35's correct
Yes, that is correct. Part of my problem may have been I was so used to 33s I may have hit the Mtn. Springs obstacle harder than I should have.
@@naturesglorycabin3792 that’s probably the hardest I’ve seen you take a spot like that but we love it that’s way we do it … challenging
Yeah you can hear my wife saying how that was the hardest she had ridden on. She usually is outside taking pictures but there was nowhere for her to get out.
DANG i cant wait to see the full video
Thanks, not the same old thing huh?
@@naturesglorycabin3792 I could tell that hill was pretty tough I can only imagine what it would be it the rain , great job btw
Thanks
So, did this little clip show where you actually bent the rims? I can say that you did sound like you were having fun! That's all that counts!
Yeah one and/or all of these places finished off the steering box & bent the rims.
But you didn’t die, so it’s a successful trip!
Got some good stories!
That Cold Iron hill climb is a tough one. Always seems to be slick as hell.
This was my first time on it. I could never work it out to go with anyone before this ride.
Another great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Can you guys do new trails for a change? Dbbb is huge and the new expansion too. Im curious what thats like
I had planned to do some of the newer trails on the main event day of the Spring DBBB ride. Unfortunately I broke on day 2. The newest section is about an hour from Slade and most folks don't start at Slade to do them. I have one very easy ride in the works when I get to it . I believe it is called Wild Dog. Has lots of pavement & gravel on both ends with a fairly easy trail in the middle. I stay on most of the same trails due to new inexperienced riders coming in all the time. I am however trying to change my tact by combining where I can so as to not have too many on the same subject. There have been 2 new sections added in the last 2 years. Rader Ridge (moderate) and the Furnace Loop (easy) are a couple of the new ones added last year that I have done. Do you have a particular trial or trails you wan to see?
Have a new stock Bronco new to off-roading. Would love to go on a ride with you sometime! I’ve done Fixer/cave/bald rock, but not sure if I can tackle New Virginia and Spaas Creek with how I am equipped.
When you say stock what exactly do you mean? There are many versions of the Bronco.
@@naturesglorycabin3792 32” tires, no lift.
That's a good video can't wait to go out with you again
@@austinwatkins9185you could do Spaas Creek in a stock Bronco. I did it back in September on a stock 2015 Sahara with 31" Pirellis. But, I bottomed out MANY times and went off camber several times more. The last climb out (heading north) was brutal in every sense of the word. Fast forward six months and we tackled it again with a 3" lift, 35's, sway bar disconnects, etc. and zero issues. Note: it was progressively worse last weekend.
@@johnspurrier0001 I figured Spaas was probably too much. How is new Virginia? I was hoping I could make the same loop as in the video, but take off Spaas for now.
Is a skid plate necessary for this trail?
No, but I'd watch some of the later videos. Trail conditions can change
Are there many miles of dirt or gravel roads in this area?
The Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway consists of over 300 miles of paved/gravel & offroad.
Who knew this is what my Wednesday afternoon needed?
Bugs? or just serenity of watching birds?
what a great looking ride. glad you were able to break it up into two videos. detail and info are great
Thanks, there was just too much going on to make only one video.
Thanks for posting part 2 today! Looks like Sam, Kim, and kids had fun!
you're welcome.

Direct message me on the Facebook page and I'll send it to you.
sweet trail, think a stock power wagon could tackle it?
Probably, the only concern is the 33inch tires on such a long wheel base. I assume it has Winch, F&R lockers too. A lift on that long wheel base would be helpful too.
They should try and make the attachments m-lok like rifle attachments.
I may have seen somewhere that someone does, I just can't remember.
The bullet point mounting system is the best in my opinion. It is rock solid in my Bronco and fits perfectly.
Love all of mine, have a universal in my TJ, they don't make a specific one for it.
I can’t find part 2 of this ride. Kim is my daughter - so I was hoping to see the whole ride. Please help me find part 2 !
Part2 will post next Sunday 6/9 I wasn't able to get the entire ride edited and posted at the same time and I also try to keep my videos meaningful and under 30 minutes. Glad you liked it
Thank you ! I’ll watch for it ! They had a blast doing this ride with you !
always great to give a good restaurant a shout out!!!
We try to promote the area as much as we can and keep local businesses in business!
Nice video... can't wait to try it out ourselves! FYI... We were out on Clifton last weekend and caught a nasty sidewall gash/ flat on the culver heading North from Kendrick Ridge towards Old Beaver. Had no issues coming through twice earlier in the weekend, but it was pretty chewed up on the third trip through.
Where did you get the sidewall gash? I carry Glue Treads just incase. Glad you liked the video.

Great trail rides , you must have one happy Jeep!
The TJ has been spending a lot of time in the shop. Did a bunch of stuff to get 35s on it and broke it the first time out. It is getting a new Redhead steering box, steering box brace new drop pitman arm (Teraflex), stripped the splines out of the amazon special broke off a rear bump stop, getting limiting straps on the rear to limit droop.
Weird seeing you out with so many other rigs! Great ride and thanks for helping out!
Yeah, I'm usually with small groups. We do what we can. Thanks!
Looks like fun can't wait
It has changed a bit since this video. More Fun!
Would you be free to guide me, my son and his cousin through Spaas creek next Wednesday in my F150?
I'd love to, unfortunately I have to work during the week, weekends are all I have until after November when I retire.
I took a buddy through spaas in my tacoma back in December. Just us and had fun. Only damage we took was that rock chute and had a rock scrape my back passenger side
@@mikegta14 nice! I’m just wanting to make sure I stick the right line there seems to be a lot of bypasses and such. Although I’ve got full steel skid plates it’s only leveled with 33” Cooper Rugged Treks
