T 962 Reflow Oven Upgrade
Awhile back I wanted to make some surface mount PCB's at home so I upgraded a cheap T-962 reflow oven! The process involves removing masking tape from the oven, applying new Kapton tape, removing paint from the chassis to properly ground the device, replacing the loud and insufficient cooling fan, and upgrading the firmware. Links below to the instructions I followed as well as the supplies I used.
Hope you give this project a try! Thanks for watching!

Laser Cutting Beer Caddies On The Y-400
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
My Y-400 laser has been getting a workout lately cranking out beer caddies for the current craft show season. I wanted to share my process for making these caddies and hopefully inspire you guys to give this simple project a try! This project uses 4mm (5/32") and 5mm (1/4") PureBond Maple plywood sheets which are available from Home Depot online. See link below (not sponsored or affiliate). I c...
Build A HomeKit Controlled LED Matrix
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 роки тому
As a fan of the 8-bit era of computing I’ve always loved pixel art and 8-bit graphics! I decided I needed to make a LED pixel art display for my basement using a Raspberry Pi Zero and a 64 x 64 LED matrix from Adafruit! I have provided an in-depth tutorial on my Medium blog (link below) with instructions on how I set up this LED matrix. There is also a link below for the Adafruit tutorial which...
Prusa Mini Plus Assembly And First Print
Переглядів 3,3 тис.3 роки тому
Just a quick video this time to show off a new tool in my shop! The Prusa Mini 3D printer I ordered way back in November has finally arrived! I decided to order the partially assembled version this time around. When I purchased my Prusa MK3S, I ordered the kit version and built it myself. For the curious, the box the Mini came in says "kit," but Prusa sent out an email after my printer shipped ...
10 Workholding Ideas For Laser Cutters
Переглядів 65 тис.3 роки тому
The last couple of weeks, I've been getting to know my new Y-400 laser cutter, and I have been trying out different methods to hold items on the laser cutter. Of course, it is possible to ignore fixturing your work on a laser cutter! Just go ahead and cut it! It will work just fine! :) Sometimes the 1/8" inch (3mm) plywood I want to cut is warped like a potato chip, and I do want to try to hold...

There is a lot of information in this video, so pause the video or rewind and watch again if you miss something! If you have any questions about any of the tests, leave a comment below. The test files I used are linked below. If you use the files, I provide below, make sure to adjust pa...
90W Laser Cutter From Scratch | Ultimate Air Assist
Переглядів 9 тис.3 роки тому
It's time to upgrade the air assist on my Y-400 laser cutter! Previously, I have been using the air pump that came with my K40 laser. I created a 3D printed box that houses a relay to switch the pump on and off. While this was adequate for the K40 laser, I always wanted to have bleed air through the nozzle on the Y-400 laser. I got started by pulling out the old air assist components, which I h...
Installing A Shop Air System
Переглядів 1,2 тис.3 роки тому
I plan to install the Ultimate Air Assist package from Cloudray Laser to upgrade the air assist on my laser cutter. But first, I want to improve the air system overall in my shop by adding dedicated quick release outlets in a couple of locations around my shop. I got started with the upgrade by removing the noisy five-gallon Porter Cable pancake compressor that I have been using and replacing i...
90W Laser Cutter From Scratch | Smoke Eater v2.0
Переглядів 34 тис.3 роки тому
I've decided to try a different version of the smoke eater. My goals were to make it easier to maintain, increase airflow by using larger diameter vent pipes and making it cheaper. If you haven't watched the original smoke eater video, I suggest watching that first, as this video will make more sense! I want to make it clear that the first version WAS working great! The smoke eater cleared the ...

90W Laser Cutter From Scratch | Y-400 [Part 4]
Переглядів 13 тис.4 роки тому
It has been a while since part three of this Y-400 laser cutter build series was released! It is now time to finish up this project finally and put this laser cutter to use! To make the alignment process quicker and more convenient, I decided to create some cardstock targets and 3D print custom target holders for the mirror fixtures. I used the print then cut feature of the Cricut to cut the al...
3D Printing A Magnetic Chess Set
Переглядів 6 тис.4 роки тому
Mr. O'Malley and I watched the Queen's Gambit series on Netflix recently, and he decided to challenge his hoomin to a match. As I didn't own a chess set, I decided to design a 3D printable chess set from scratch in Fusion 360! I started designing in Affinity Designer and drew vectors for one half of each chess piece before mirroring. The knight was the most work since I had to start with a pede...
V-Carving A Coffee Sign With The Shapeoko
Переглядів 3,2 тис.4 роки тому
V-Carving this sign was my first attempt at using the Advanced V-Carve toolpath in Carbide Create. I think it turned out pretty good! I started by creating a vector design in Affinity Designer before exporting as SVG to Carbide Create. A quick tip: I have found that exporting from Affinity as an SVG, set the DPI to 96 for the imported vector to be sized correctly in Carbide Create. In Carbide C...
WEN Air Filtration System Unboxing And Installation
Переглядів 7364 роки тому
Recently I have been doing some projects on the Shapeoko, and since I haven't built an enclosure for the Shapeoko, the dust in my shop has gotten pretty bad. Time to give active air filtration a try! I have a vacuum and dust collection boot for my Shapeoko, but fine dust still escapes into the room. To reduce this, I purchased the WEN 3410 Air Filtration System. I have a drop tile ceiling in my...
Making A Walnut And Copper Etching Candle Tray Centerpiece
Переглядів 3644 роки тому
This project's inspiration came from a couple of sources, a pair of Oui yogurt jars and a walnut board I have had in my possession for over twenty years! I started this project by cleaning up the yogurt jars. I removed the stickers from both yogurt jars and scraped the screen printed graphics from one of the yogurt jars. I cleaned up the remaining residue with Acetone. Also, I used calipers and...

If you're venting outside, why would you smell any smoke inside. with or without a _smoke eater?_
Nice work I just did that almost same type install on my laser but I used a vacuum type fan not a radial fan it's very very quiet and the smoke evacuates almost immediately through at least five different filters
U paid for a plan of length of aluminium extrusions. lol. there so many free laser versions at UA-cam.
I wonder if you could program a way in which each art work is saved as a scene on Apple home . Then u could change it anytime .
soooo...like the build....watching many builds on youtube....taking a bit here and there to make my build....the 2 motors driving 1 axis....is a bit of a sticking point here, so thought since its been 3 years since this vid was made, need your opinion.....here goes.....saw many try the 2 motors controlling 1 axis....obviously 3 drivers for x, y (2 motors reversed wiring), and z for bed...hope this is what i'm assuming.....furtherfabrications scrapped this idea and went for a single dual shaft instead of the 2 motor deal......he said original design was losing steps and the motors were getting out of sync....he said stability just wasnt there....(bind or EMI...dunno)....saw another mount single shaft motor at bottom then used a pulley system to attach to a single log rod which was supported to run the Y axis, thinking it would be beneficial keeping the motor away from the tube to reduce emi.....an honest opinion on any problem with your build concerning this problem would be appreciated
The video is really very useful. may I ask for the files for the construction design and the Gantri. thank you

Flying Death propeller for a hole cutter ... now thats what woodworking is all about, yeah!!
Excellent and smart
Thumbs down because you didn't really say anything about what you were doing. DUH How are we supposed to know what you're doing?
😄🤩😆 really smart 👏👏👏 thank you 🤝
Can we build flat frame, but head nozzle is adjustable using micro stepper motor, maybe only 200 or 300mm height
It is important to remember that holding stock flat with magnets or weights doesn't actually negate the fact that it's cupped in the first place. Once the item is cut or engraved and you take the bracing off, it's going to return to its curved state. There may be a minor reduction from releasing some surface tension or removing an area where the most severe deformation exists. But overall, you likely still have cupped or twisted stock. In general, I think there's some very good ideas here for holding and positioning work pieces, especially for repeat items.
You skip over the fastening of the PI to the spacer, the back to the matrix, also the screw link no longer works. I am unable to find m3 screws of length that goes through the entire case and am unsure if I'm literally supposed to glue the screws to the spacer.
FYI, the drawer has little clips on the side that allow it to easily be pulled out... One side you push down, the other you push up, as the rails are mirrored.
I loved your work and I want to do exactly like you, but I did not understand exactly because I did not see the laser machine connected to the box. Does the aluminum filter pull air to the outside or does the fan pull air from the outside to the inside?
I’m just thinking about how much better this video would be if you weren’t mute I’m sorry for you😢
Mele Kalikimaka first, My engineer came out in viewing, As I always tell my wife (50 years) this is just an observation not a criticism. The big chunks of metal will waste a lot of material and has big risks. I love your magnetic hold downs and pins, My observation here is to make them so they protrude above the material less then the space between the material and the laser head- that way if you make a cut error the only thing that you damage is a hold-down.
Why did you use the offset during the focus test? Is that the material thickness?
cool!
Thanks!
anyway, i can get the volt label file, so I can slap my logo on it easily?
Yep. You may want to check the scale and make sure it is the correct mA range for your tube if it is different.
where is everyone ordering the parts from? amazon? aliexpress?
I ordered most of my parts from AliExpress. Some from Amazon and eBay also.
Nice!! I’m gonna run with this to make a cooled smoke and noise eater box.
Go for it!
great video it must take along time to make
Thanks! This is my least watched video and it took the longest to make of course :) I've been into stop motion since I was a kid and I've always wanted to try it. It was a fun video to make!
Awesome build and great video! Where did you source your belt for the Z axis? I'm having trouble sourcing a 3000mm belt loop... the ones I've found on Amazon all ship from China.
Thanks! Yeah mine also came from China. It was from CloudRay laser possibly?
Great video with some useful suggestions. Thank you ☺
Glad it was helpful!
Great video!! -- one small question. what solution are you using in the sponges? I bought some with your link just now. Just wondering if it's water or something else. Also saw you using it on the Beer Caddy video. thanks millions!!
Thanks! Yeah I found just water works best but only slightly damp.
thanks so much - great and informative ideas you have!!!
You are so welcome!
love that cabinet i am just about to build the laser from further fabrication as well any chance you are willing to share the plans for the cabinet the link you made dosent allow you to download it 🙂
I don't have plans for the cabinet but you can take measurements from the link I shared. Good luck with your build!
@@acwrightdesign you dont need to have plans i would just love to get the file from fusion360
What's the size of the puleys you are using and what belt. Thanks
The belt is GT2. The pulleys are 20 and 30 tooth 10mm size.
what is that blue film and where do you get it
It is Oramask. Link is in description.
Great Job
Thanks!

Why keep the the enclosure and the gantry apart? Wouldn't that make everything even more rigid and stable if you connected them together?
The idea from the original design is to have the gantry attached to the table top and separate from the outer frame so that the outer frame could possibly be removed for cleaning/access. Checkout Further Fabrication's YT channel for more info on the design philosophy.
Hi Kitty! I love seeing Mr.M. So much tape!so many machine guts! I loved this just for the sounds. It’s like PCB mukbang
Thanks Tina!
It's a great little oven
I was surprised actually how well it worked after the upgrade!
Have you tried making surface mount PCB's at home? Let me know below how it turned out!
Legend 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
Very interesting experiments. Thanks for sharing the ideas and the files. Although I fail to understand how the various spikes help with the bent board… I have seen someone screwing the metal spikes on a perforated metal plate to make a replacement of the expensive honeycomb, though. Personally, I just use duct tape to fix the board on a grid (one made to cool down baked pies). Not perfect, have to ensure I don't tape in the way of the laser, but kind of work.
Thanks for watching!
how do you have your z axis setup? does it home when you power up the machine? want to part with your controller setup config's?
My Z axis homes when the machine turns on. My controller settings are very "stock" except for the motor control parameters which will vary based on your motor configuration.
@@acwrightdesign ya i got the bed to go down when i home, but i cant move the bed to the nozzle.
Can I use gt2 6mm belt for x and y? Because it is only available in my place!
I suppose you can if the correct matching pulleys are used
@@acwrightdesign Yeah I use 6mm pulley is it OK?
@@geminiman2831 Yes it is ok
@@acwrightdesign 👍
great ideas dude. we all fight the same issues :)
Very true. Thank you!
A magnet enclosure is a great idea. Magnets are much more fragile than I realized, and now I have a bowl of broken magnets that I use. 😂
I have a few broken ones as well!
Thank you so much for this nice tests and the sharing on thingiverse. 😀
EXEPTIONEL
Thank you!
MAGNIFIQUE BRAVO
Thank you!
I'm strongly considering building one of these to house my K40 tube.
Sounds like a good idea!
Do you have a steel plate under the honeycomb that the magnets are attracted too? Only ask because isn't the honeycomb aluminium?
I suppose some honeycomb beds are aluminum? Mine is not so the magnets do stick.
Give me more ideas for my own DIY thank you. Was wondering you have any ideas about how one would winterize the window. It gets to -40 here in the winter and I just don’t see two thin sheets of plexi holding out the cold for long.
I never did anything to winterize so I don't have any specific suggestions. It doesn't get that cold where I live so I guess I didn't notice a difference after the mod.
