  • I’ve been receiving monthly deliveries of filament samples from the Box Mountain Maker Box Easy Plan for a while now. I was looking for a way to catalog and reference the filament samples in the future.
I printed around fifty Cali Cats on the Prusa i3 MK3S and numbered them. The Cali Cat model is great for this purpose since each print took around an hour on the MK3S.
I used a sticker booklet I had laying around that is supposed to be used for labeling wiring. I created a spreadsheet that lists the filament manufacturer, color, type, and the printer I used to print the samples.
I decided to design and 3D print a holder in Fusion360. The holders joined together using 3D printed keys to make a matrix of cats! I have uploaded my STL files for the holder and keys to Thingiverse if you want to make a cat matrix of your own! 🐈
I now have a cool filament reference library I can refer to anytime to decide on a filament type or color to use for my next 3D printing project!

I still have a ton of filament samples leftover even after printing all these cats! Has anyone else found a use for filament samples?

Love it love it love all the kitties! It’s funny-printing the cats reminds me of piping frosting roses to decorate a cake. When you first opened the box, I had no idea what was going to happen.
