2024 Sierra 3500: Towing MPG Test W/ 40ft Enclosed
Well guys just a little loop around town for fun to see how the new truck does. I had no real reason to take the trailer with me on this little drive other than for fun and to make this video.
Overall the truck didn't do to bad. I was hoping for a little more, but I have been seeing the MPG steadily go up. So I'm hoping with a few thousand more miles this truck really puts out some respectable numbers.

Why I Left Ram/Cummins for GMC/Duramax
Переглядів 13 тис.3 місяці тому
I'm a pretty huge fan of Ram trucks so this was not the easiest thing to do for me. But in my time owning my 2022 I had to many issues, and the outlook for the 23's and 24's really didn't look any better. From what I've seen with other trucks out there, Ram really has a mess to deal with. So to keep myself from getting more headaches, I thought I'd give something else a shot. Hopefully it works...
My NEW 2024 Sierra 3500 Denali Ultimate: An Expensive Experiment
Переглядів 1,5 тис.3 місяці тому
Well guys the time has FINALLY come. After two years of ownership the Ram gave me enough troubles that I had to at least say goodbye to that truck. And ultimately, I decided I wanted to try something new. Lemme tell ya, change is not easy. It feels good to be back and I can't wait to make tons of videos with this truck for this truck and see how it performs in the real world. Thanks for watchin...

I have these in 38 inch and love them!
You guys may want to check out Opti Lube which has multiple additives for different season and climate. More importantly need to read their MSDS to understand what they put in their concoction. There are only a few chemical used to improve CETANE. The most popular is 2EHN which needs at least 500ppm to raise the CETANE number by 3, and 1000ppm by 5. If you buy diesel from cheap statation which has a CETANE number of 40-42, you will see a MPG improvbement. If you buy premium diesel which already have a CETANE of 47+, the additive would barely improve MPG. If you use B20 or R99 which has very high CETANE to begin with, you will not see any MPG improvement. Stanadyne is a company that make diesel injector and pump, so they know what to put in their additive. But nothing exotic about their chemistry, all common stuff used by the refineries already. The Hot Shot secret use 1oz per tank is too low of a concentration to improvement anything.
Because you dont need to tow anything heavy?
Thanks for making this video man 🙌
Explain issue to etrailer and return it and get the Curt kit, problem solved.
While I agree you have an issue but the issue was caused by you. GM uses Curt hitches and I had the dealer throw in the Curt GN ball kit as part of the deal. Mine fits perfect. That said I will probably never use it because I tow all my trailers on my 5th wheel hitch. I put king pin adapters in all my GN trailers, so much better that towing with a GN ball. I have the Curt 30K 5th wheel hitch in my new 24 and it is super nice.
I have a 2024 Denali Ultimate 2500HD, have the same complaint about the sound of this praised 12 speaker piece of s**t stereo system. Presently have an escalated case complaint filed with GM and I won't let it rest till they agree to remedy my issue. I have suspected that I'm not alone and this video and other testimonials on the internet have solidified my belief! I want them to pay for a professional upgrade kit install, otherwise I have threatened legal action. They are trying to pacify me with software updates, known anomaly they recognize. Three updates later and it's just BS.They are fully aware of the junk they are installing in these way overpriced trucks.
It can pull it the problem is stopping it
Love these tires. Came stock in my diesel Chevy 2500. Great on road, snow, beach etc. 66 k on them now and ready for a change
Frame bent
When did these come out ,I just put Defender M/S on my truck last week ,like yours more
My 11'lml with 385k is my last truck. I'll build it before I buy a newer one. The newer one's are awesome looking, but to many issues.
I’m a poor man with an SLE non Bose. It’s awful.
Works great been using it for years
Alignment is off so far and the bigger those mirrors get the dangerous the driver is 😂
Steering issues already?
I got 35 x 12.5 x 20 Firestone not sure I wanna do this they do look good and I’m sure I’ll see one mpg easy
Rams can pull hard with very little fan fair. Typical Cummins
nice tread ,, do the hold rocks and sling um out at high speed like the defender 2's do ... my defenders are really bad about coming off even a nice maintained gravel roads. but the get grate gas milage.
For work Ram and Ford for play Chevy and Gmc.
I’m going to slap your mouth if I ever hear you say “shits and gigs” again.
"How bad looking are these?" "This truck looks so bad with these." Lol
You'd be surprised if you kept your speed to about 68-70 how much better mpg you will get. Even empty, the trailer catches a lot of wind drag,. Consider putting an aerodynamic nose cap on to help. At 70, I'm gonna guess you will get at least 12.
I've been running EDT and notice no difference whatsoever in my Cummins. I'm ready to try something different.
The main reason I won’t go to GMC is at Ford and Ram uses solid front axle for the four-wheel-drive and GMC’s independent suspension and I don’t think this is strong enough for a heavy duty 1 ton truck
Wrap the truck black instead of buying a new truck lol
Bought these for my 2019 Ram 1500 ecodiesel 2 years ago at 65k and now at almost 130k there is still plenty of tread left to go way past the 70k limited warranty!
There’s no way I want to pay anything more than 65 k on a f350 6.7 lariat srw crew cab
The F350 Lariat starts higher than that with the 6.8. The 6.7 adds $10k.
Back in 2014 I paid 65 with tax for my lariat 6.7 I guess I have to keep her not going to upgrade anytime soon
@@electrician-bn7gr At the end of 2010 I paid $42,000 including taxes and fees for a 2011 Ram 2500 Big Horn diesel. Road salt took its toll, but I still got $30k for it two years ago. Truck prices have been going wild for a while now.
You are kind of an ass aren't you.
So i have your same truck , now with 22000mi here where I’m at on MPG empty 17mpg / load with my 5th wheel 9.6 - 10.2 mpg DEF consumption is 887 to 1050mi per gallon
I've noticed the DEF consumption on this thing is amazing to. Twice as good nearly as my Ram
Like your videos 👍
Related but unrelated to your towing test; how do you feel the exhaust brake is, towing the trailer, in the Duramax compared to the Cummins you had? I've always thought the Cummins exhaust brake is stronger than others.
Without the trailer and using the gear limiter its actually pretty good. You have to use the gear limiter though. With the trailer on the other hand, its not very noticeable at all. The Cummins is leaps and bounds better for towing, this is a fun rocket ship to drive around
I wonder how that kid is doing
Good choice. Love my ram but they put the hydraulic lifters in and my 2022 is getting a conversion now. 5000 out of pocket. Sad.
I kept my pre emissions truck and you should too. New is nice but don't get rid of the old metal. 2003 ram worth keeping.
I agree with you . The road noise is awful on all the all terrains. There are no quiet AT tires that look like an off road tire. I’m tired of the noise. Going to the Michelin next .KO2 are too noisy and too much vibration
GOOD LUCK! Just sold my 2023 Denali Duramax due to engine failure, paint quality was horrible..
my 2022 dmax runs fine 50k miles high quality paint stop the lies
Such a big truck for a little trailer
Get a power stroke dually
I listen to a lot of Jazz and it is fantastic. Throw in some AIC and it is not. I get wanting to upgrade.
Unfortunately, that's the design flaw of the Bose stereo system. The system doesn't give you the sound separation of traditional stereo speakers because there is no tweeter/woofer separation. The system is basically made up of full range speakers in your doors and not separate woofers and tweeters.
What are you taking about. There are tweeters on the dash.
You just jealous that gmc can tow more than your ram
Get real #Ford
Looks like excessive wear on the outside of the front tires…
Shim it
Looks like the trailer sits very low. Could be a challenge maneuvering, in and out of gas stations, off road.
5:58 my two 2024 f250 limited trucks easily return 22.4 mpg unloaded running 75 on highways. Ram and GM both need to loose a lot of weight to catch up with Fords HO powerstroke. I owned a 24 ram 2500 limited longhorn Cummins for about 7 months and found it to be inferior in so many aspects compared to 23+ MY Fords. Worse mpg by 2.75, beautiful interior but cramped, seats you want to look at but not sit in very long, a skinny little armrest that was laughable, doppy feeling body roll because of the heavy steel skin, excellent sound system with too much bass at all times, no telescope wheel meant you cannot get adjusted right for long trips, tilt wheel adjustment was wayyy too limited (5 preset notches total?) and a very harsh ride even with factory air in back. I also found the Ram AC to be not quite enough output to keep cab comfortable on 90+ degree days. I did like the sound of the Cummins and I loved the smoothness of the 68RFE. If they made one more gear in that tranny, they’d have a winner I think. Minuses in my 5000 mile ownership included a rear crank seal oil leak at 2700 miles and lousy trade in value compared to the numerous diesel Fords I’ve traded in over the past 6 years.
Definitely is way too much for the 68rfe tranny.
Agree! 👍
Long live the 4th gens ❤️
I believe that increasing the longetivity and reliability of these engines for 2025 is to go to flat tappet cam rollers instead of these recent 2019 and above hydraulic roller from engineer viewpoint, their is many failure of hydraulic roller failing in warranty and out of warranty, they should also fix the grid heater bolt issue as well and do a revamp bank power ram intake 2025 future development of the 6.7 cummins. Prevent 6.7 cummins from having fuel dilution in the oil from over regen too much than usual. Just my take.
