Related but unrelated to your towing test; how do you feel the exhaust brake is, towing the trailer, in the Duramax compared to the Cummins you had? I've always thought the Cummins exhaust brake is stronger than others.
Without the trailer and using the gear limiter its actually pretty good. You have to use the gear limiter though. With the trailer on the other hand, its not very noticeable at all. The Cummins is leaps and bounds better for towing, this is a fun rocket ship to drive around
So i have your same truck , now with 22000mi here where I’m at on MPG empty 17mpg / load with my 5th wheel 9.6 - 10.2 mpg DEF consumption is 887 to 1050mi per gallon
You'd be surprised if you kept your speed to about 68-70 how much better mpg you will get. Even empty, the trailer catches a lot of wind drag,. Consider putting an aerodynamic nose cap on to help. At 70, I'm gonna guess you will get at least 12.
