    That little Ross’s goose is adorable. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of a friendly swan before 😮 (due to past experiences, I much prefer to admire swans from a distance!).

      I've had a couple of quarrels with swans before! This one is quite funny. She will follow you closely but will pout when she thinks she isn't getting fed. She pouts by plonking herself down on the ground abruptly. I'm probably anthropomorphising, but that's how it seems, anyway.

      Hi Mark, there's no Snow Goose in this video. The white Goose is a Ross's Goose. Or do you mean the Trumpeter Swan? They sometimes get a bit or red-brown colouring on their heads from iron in the water that they forage and eat from.

    That's a pretty good birding venture, I'd say, especially with so many new lifers. As you were counting only birds that you visually identified for your trip list, that's pretty good. You'll hear a lot more than you see, of course. That access road to the top end of Mizzy Lake trail is great for nighttime visits to the aptly named, Wolf Howl Pond. I've had success a few times there, albeit many years ago. It's an amazing experience to hear wolves returning call in the distance. Great video, as always.

    Good morning 🌅 to you from Hong Kong SAR. It’s so fantastic for you to see hybrid goose, Canada/Snow Goose Hybrid ! 😳 Last week, I had three ‘LIFERS’ : (1) Common Sandpiper, (2) Green-tailed Treecreeper, and (3) a FEMALE Daurian Redstart. Though I had seen the MALE Daurian Redstart more than eight 8️⃣ years ago, this is my first time seeing the FEMALE. Incidentally, quite a lot of Japanese birders on their UA-cam channels have seen a lot of FEMALE Daurian Redstarts during this winter season, as well as the Common Kingfisher.

    Hi, on the Barrows...did you ever concider Digiscoping? Its a method of using your cell phone with a spotting scope, and the appropriate mount. You are basically getting a pic of what you see throught the scope. I know people who use it for long distance ID pics, it might be something to concider. Love your vids! Keep up the great work...and wheres Sarah??

      @BritHikesOntario 2 дні тому

      Sara is at work on this day. Consider it a "bonus video" with the 350 Bird Challenge returning on Thursday, with all going to plan. I've digiscoped a little when we first got the scope at the beginning of the year. My new lens and teleconverter give me closer views than the scope now, though. The scopes main advantage is that it can cover a wider area (wider field of view).

    If you come back to Florida let us know! We were disappointed when you came to Ft. DeSoto and we didn't see you. We were actually there that day to see the Piratic Flycatcher, and super bummed we didn't run into you. Ft. DeSoto is a wonderful birding spot, but your first few times it helps to have a local to show you where the birds are. April is the best time of year to come, during migration. Ft. DeSoto was destroyed in the hurricane and is only just reopening now, but only part of it so far. It should be re-opened by spring though. We didn't hit our target last year either, which was 251 we got 230. It was still a good year though because we went to Newfoundland and saw puffins and the pink-footed goose! :) Looking forward to what you see this year. I think you need to go to the South West like Texas or Arizona. My whole family watches your videos and we love them and seeing your adventures! We can't wait to see where you get to this year.

      Thanks for following along, we appreciate it. Our April to May this year is extremely busy. Florida is possible later in the year, but there's a number of places on our radar atm. We'd definitely like to come back sometime, though.

    Good luck with your new challenge! Have you thought about posting your travel plans in advance so we might be ale to help you? I didn't know you were headed to Sax Zim until after the fact. I live just west of there and could have gotten you pine grosbeak, ruffed grouse, bohemian waxwing and sharptail grouse.

      We usually say the larger trips a little bit ahead of time in videos leading up. Perhaps not the specific dates for privacy/safety.

    Can’t help but feel excited about your new journey and where it takes you. Living all these wonderful experiences thru your videos has been a pleasure. Cranberry marsh happens to be my 8 yr old’s most favourite birding spot to feed chickadees, we’ve been wanting to visit it in the new year. Shrike is such a strikingly gorgeous bird, congrats on the tufted duck. Best wishes for 350 🙌
