Also I am a child I am bird watching too. And I went to the Tommy Thompson Park in October 14.2024 but I didn't see you their in the long billed dowitcher's place
Hey, thanks for the shoutout. I'm the Stephen you ran into. My avatar here is an old photo of me wearing a helmet at Warwick Castle near your old stomping grounds.
Hi Stephen, great running into you and chatting about the places the three of us have all lived in lol. Thanks so much for sharing your tips on your local birding spots. Nice helmet haha. I took Sara to Warwick Castle while she lived in The UK with me for a year or two. Gotta be done!
I'm really impressed with your composition of video and photography of your time in downtown Chicago. Very professional, I enjoyed seeing that, thank you.
Fun to see you zipping around my State, Wisconsin. Your stop at the Arb in Madison is about 15 minutes from my house. I heard you were looking for Golden Eagles. We do get some at Devils Lake State Park about a 1/2 hour from Madison. It's has bluffs along the lake. They only show up in the winter. I've seen them consistently for the past few years, but you need to get there in the morning and you may be waiting a few hours for one flying around. Very much looking forward to your visit to Sax Zim Bog, I'm hoping to travel there for the first time in February 2025. Great video!
Thanks Sarah. We'd like to go in February, too. A busier time for the winter birds, I think. But obviously that wouldn't count for our 2024 goal! Hope you have a great time when you go 😊
Good morning 🌅 to you both from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. Wishing you both a jolly Christmas 🎄 Holiday Season with lots of success in finding new birds on your ‘LIFER’ list. All the best in health for the New 2025 Year. Red-winged Blackbirds and Red-tailed Hawks are pretty common across the US. Happy birding 😃😃😃😃😃
Good Morning 🌅 to both of you from Hong Kong 🇭🇰. Happy birding, Holidays and a great Christmas 🎄 birding days and best wishes and prosperity for the New 2025 Year.
@@BritHikesOntario Yeah, some boardwalks were better than others. Nice mix of farm birds and bog birds. Got warbler's neck from looking up. Lots of Blackburnian and also golden-winged warbler, which is a local speciality. Some raptors, too. Got about 50 birds in five hours before I had to drive home. Packed a lot in! Quite buggy. Good luck. I'm enjoying the trip videos.
Such a great video, congratulations on the lifer. I learn so much from your videos. I’m waiting anxiously for the next video now. This has been such a fun to watch series.
Congratulations on the Western Meadowlark. They do like to stay low. One place I bird a lot has them year-round. I've heard them on nearly every trip there and have yet to actually see one this year.
That's good to know. I don't see them (Eastern Meadowlark) very often, but we have a couple of spots where there are tons of them. So there's usually a few that perch and sing and you can get good views. I've never had to work so hard for a Meadowlark as that one 😂
Merry Christmas and Happy new year 2025, you guys are awesome and I love all your videos, whenever you want to come birding with me in Long Island NY you are welcome to stay at my house and I have guest room for you and I can be your bird guide ❤️🤗🙏
Thanks so much Miguel, that's very kind of you. I bet Long Island is excellent for birding. We need more time off from our day jobs to get to all these birding locations!
Congrats on adding four to the total. Eagle eye Sara finding the NSWO. I’ve recently watched Sparky Stensaas video on Sax-Zim Bog so I’m excited to see you reach 300! Merry Christmas! 🦉🎄
Thanks Sara was laughing. I checked that tree after we separated. I texted her "lots of whitewash in the first tree I checked", but managed to miss the sleepy owl. Luckily Sara went to look after my message lol. To be honest, I don't watch a lot of other birding UA-cam channels. There's good ones out there, but I don't have a ton of time with all the editing I do, and I don't want to be influenced by what others are doing. But! Sara and I watch Sparky's videos. A nice, humble guy.
I live in downtown Chicago and I often bird at the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary. One mile south of that at Addison & Lake Shore Drive is the Bill Jarvis Bird Sanctuary. It is a small loop trail around a swamp area and is also a refuge for migratory birds. It has an observation platform and lets you get away from the crowds at Montrose. I also enjoyed the part of the video that showed you driving through Superior and into Duluth. In the 80s and 90s, I used to go on fishing trips to Armstrong, Ontario and this brought back a lot of memories.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching and for the tips. The guy we spoke to at Montrose Point, who I referred to in the video, named Stephen, also recommended the Bill Jarvis Bird Sanctuary. Our time was limited on our trip, but we both really enjoyed Chicago (and everyone was very friendly), so perhaps we will make it back sometime.
Not sure where you’re at on your quest for 300 and I hope you get there! We have a snowy owl in Buffalo this year. I just went sown to the waterfront to see it.. i will be going to look for the Harlequin ducks that have been hanging around which would be a lifer for me.
Very nice! The Snowy Owl has been a frustration for us this year. But it's one bird that I'm confident that we will get because it's likely to be a good winter for them this time around.
I clicked as soon as you came up. I was driving on my job so couldn't respond quickly. You were in my neck of the wood's. I travel to Benton Harbor daily for my Job. The wolf park fisheries I have visited several times. They have one pond that usually has very little to no water and that is a happy place for the Kildeer and some shore bird's. I have never seen anything special there. The Golden was seen in Jackson last year but of course not when I was there. You gave me a few places to check out. I never planned on having a parakeet on my list but now it is..plus the finch will be added. I too am looking for the Saw- Whet. I drove straight through to Saz-Zim-Bog at night so I didn't stop anywhere on the way. Looking forward to the next one. If you ever decide to come to Michigan again I'll give you a few of my favorites in Michigan. I'm aiming to go back in the UP sometime in Jan and/or Feb. Take Care. You know I would be happy if you didn't have goals and just report all you find when ever and where ever you go.
Thanks Susan, we'll let you know when we return. The UP looks great, I've only ever quickly driven through it via the i-75 to Sault Ste. Marie quite a few years back before I was as bird focused. We return to Benton Harbor in part three... and find a bird there 🤫 Also, everyone in that area was very friendly. One birder was a guy called Tim who is there at the pier almost everyday, apparently. Glad we gave you some spots to try! The Goldfinch are on Kruegar Rd, amongst other places, but they can be hit and miss. Let us know how you get on. We will make an announcement about next year in due course. But don't worry, nothing much is changing about the style of the channel. The support from you and others like you is appreciated by us both. Happy birding!
I wish you could come to Boynton Beach Florida/ Green Cay and Lox are absolutely kicking off as well lox NWR also Merit island NWR everything you are looking for is here now!
I wish we were there too! A fair bit warmer! You know the biggest kicker? The Piping Plovers that breed down the road from us that we didn't get out to see... are down your way (banded). I believe one has been named "Pebbles".
@@BritHikesOntario wishing you all the best and thank you for the opportunity to watch this amazing journey/Seasons greetings and happy new year / every day I see the Egyptian geese along the golf course by my house I think of you guys
How many birds you gonna find in 2025. I am a huge fan of you
I guess we'll have to see! 😊
Really cool to see you trekking through the Midwest and in my childhood state of Wisconsin! Great birding
Thanks Hawkin. Did you steal all the snowies when you left? 😉
Also I started bird watching this year. I saw 131 birds in Ontario. Also I am grade 9
Also I am a child I am bird watching too. And I went to the Tommy Thompson Park in October 14.2024 but I didn't see you their in the long billed dowitcher's place
Hi Nehan, we were at Tommy Thompson Park at about 12:45pm on Oct 14th, and we got to the Dowitcher at about 2pm.
Maybe we will see you another time 👍
Ok
Also I like if you can get
Great grey owl
Northern hawk owl
Boreal owl
Golden eagle
In next video
I got a golden eagle in high park in July this year
Also did you see the American golden plover in Tommy Thompson Park October 14
I got that too (lifer)
We would like that, too!

Always weighing up how much of the extra non-birding stuff to include 😂

Wow- what a trip. Keep the faith guys, I'm rooting for you!!!
Thanks so much. It's gonna be tough. Not guarantees. But we will try!
So invested!! Hope you get the 300
We will need a lot of luck to get there, I think 🍀
😊🦉👍 Have a great Christmas I heard they added Santa to your list 🎅
Haha, thank you!
Merry Christmas!
Whew -- you finally caught a break with those European goldfinches, and not a moment too soon. Let's hope Sax-Zim is kinder to you.
Haha... no comment 🤐😂
Should be out in a few days
Those Snowy Owls are really giving you the runaround.
They really have this year! But I'm sure you've heard it will be a better winter for them, so I'm confident 😉

Good luck, guys. I was in Zax-Sim last May; not winter, but still pretty great. My last bird of the day was a GGO.
GGO is the big target 😆
How did you find it in May?
Good for warblers? I guess you'd have to do the boardwalks to see them?

Haha thanks. Cheeky lifer and a cheeky year addition with the Goldfinch.
Working on the Sax-zim video now!!!
Thanks so much! 😊

That pizza made me hungry! Godo job it's almost tea time. Kind of. What toppings/flavour did you go for?
How did I leave the most important question unanswered?! We had the "Chicago Classic" which is pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers and onion.
