They need to bring way more 2.5L on their NA sites/Amazon.
@@effies671 they did a small restock last week or so but only in black. But yeah definitely agree, we need more 2.5L options!
Charging to engrave the days is crazy.
@@Marcoskicks yeah I hear that, they do offer free engraving quite often as part of their marketing and promotions but that’s a waiting game you’ll have to play lol.
The Amazon description says the main compartment is 32 liters, with the other compartments making up the other 8 liters. That's why it seems smaller to you. To me, that's a bit misleading. But - for my purposes - 32 liters is fine for what I would use this bag for.
@@mikeleone1347 Onebagtravels did a volume test and the entire bag was just shy of 35 liters in reality. Plenty of room for me and most travel situations but not quite the advertised 40L. Great bag overall, especially in this price range
Haha, WoodBookPro 😂

Found your review through searching for Rework Toshi sling reviews, and I love your style. Great thorough and entertaining review and I will absolutely never forget SexyCarryLasagna 😂
@@LeahEardley glad you found the video entertaining and useful! Me and my food references 🤣🤦🏽♂️. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out! 🤙🏽
Your video, especially the coverage of the water bottle pockets made my decision - I'm gonna get one! I've been looking for something to carry essentials and this is it! I love the detail and quality you put into the video!
@@mattb6986 thanks for the kind words! Honestly for the price, this thing is hard to beat. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
This bag is very interesting. I really like the direction this company is going with innovations. Your videos keep getting better and better John. Keep em coming!!
@@NightShift_EDC thank you!🙏🏽
The straps don't contour well due to they way they're mounted, it's a disappointing oversight in an otherwise interesting bag. And now that I realise it's from the same company as the Toshi sling, I'm a bit surprised since the sling seems very well considered.
@@MrJed_s this came first, you can see the leap in design choices with the Toshi. Still enjoying the Toshi
@@UnPackD they're definitely heading in the right direction, I'm keen to see what else they put out!
@MrJed_s yeah me too! Anxious to see what they got coming to complement the Toshi. Especially since it was an intentional separation from the Reset system.
Man never realized how much I would like a modular bag
@@IWTBFOY pretty versatile little bag.
Great review. I love your style!! I like almost everything about this sling and was going to order, but the lack of the grab handle is holding me back. I know how important it is to have one. Just got back from Japan, and pulling down our bags from the overhead rack on the train without a grab handle would be difficult! Plus, you're right about being able to grab the sling from the passenger seat. Hopefully, V2 will have it. BUT....the biggest reason for not ordering it was your introduction of the Samurai to me. I want that sling! The orders are now closed, but I did hear from them and that it'll be 2 months before orders are opened again. Thanks for the fun review!!
@@Michaelhawaii50 Hi, thanks for checking out the videos 🤙🏽. The Samurai is unbelievable versatile, I hope you can jump in on the next offering. I still really like the Toshi because one advantage it has over the Samurai is the ability to compress down when not carrying a lot and for the price, it’s very comparable to its more expensive rivals. Let me know if you score a Samurai!
Will do. Of course I'm very worried about what's happening in the Ukraine and hope Packolab is doing ok. I guess I could have a shoe repair shop sew on a grab handle to the Toshi but...that Samurai! I keep looking at their offerings and all the choices! Thanks for the quick reply.
Thanks for the detailed review, John. I just ordered the "Sexy Carry Lasagne". 😄 I was looking at the Orbitkey Urban Sling 4L, but preferred the design and organization slots of the Toshi Sling 5L. Keep up the good work! 👍
@@ijefftan Hey!👋🏽 thanks for checking out my review! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised how versatile and functional the Toshi is. Let me know how it works out for you!
Overpriced shit lmoa
For myself, I always find gatekeeper clips difficult to open. For that reason, I think it's not really practical stowing away the shoulder straps in the few seconds you have when you arrive at your plane seat before you start blocking other people trying to get to their seats. Sorry for the long dangling sentence.
If funny you mention, I was planning on making a UA-cam short here this week demonstrating how I do it in literally a second. I’m not sure if I do it the right way but it works for me. They can be a pain until you find a good method
would you know what size are the gated g hooks?
@@julianfrancofarinas4280 which ones specifically? The strap for the mods or the ones one the shoulder strap? Either way let me know and I’ll get you a definite answer later today!
@@UnPackD he shoulder straps, my kind sir
@ ok so they use 2 different sizes 1.5” at the top and 1” at the bottom of the straps. Soldier the late reply, it’s been a busy day lol
@@UnPackD Thank you sir!
@ you’re welcome!
John, You have excellent taste on choosing the Packolab Samurai bag. It’s solid!
@@nhungvo3772 such a great sling!
Totally agreed with you. That’s is a best sling bag in 2024 so far!
@@nhungvo3772 love the ability to compress down on light carry days.
Rework looks like they have some good things going. Although this is probably not a bag for me, I enjoyed the review.
@@embreys definitely a brand to keep an eye on!
Really been enjoying your channel. We see the grind.
@@cvbfvre 🫡 definitely been a journey, appreciate you 🤝
Nice review! I wonder where they make the cuts to offer a price point like that. Not a fan of the modular style myself, but it looks like a cool pack . . . except for those shoulder straps. Stowables are always gonna come at a cost, unfortunately. But I guess if you're not planning to carry it for long, it's worth it. And YAY FOR BALLISTIC NYLON!!!
@@maicco333 I think we’re paying for a lot of marketing with certain brands, take CT for example. A fraction of the cost with same materials and components.
@@UnPackD Good point regarding CT.
@@UnPackD But I wish CT would use some more/different fabrics--and give us some larger sizes!
@@maicco333 yeah they’ve done some but only special order group buys. They need to do a standard run, no group bs
Hi maicco, can you explain any issue or example with stowable shoulder strap that happen with you? Thankyou
Seeing the bag on you, it definitely looked like it was pulling away and would eventually become uncomfortable. Some interesting ideas but compromising in other areas.
@@britru3493 yeah very capable for normal load outs but packed to the brim with 25 ish pounds, definitely could’ve used more support.
Yep this was my main concern when I first saw this bag - weight and the carry system. Otherwise does look great and it’s well priced too!
Great video and I actually ended up picking up a GR1 26 in Earth as they are currently on sale! What color is your DEFY leather wrap in? It looks awesome
@@alexchen99 Hi! This is the “Whiskey” color Mr. gripper. I love the way it looks. I’m thinking of changing out my matching earth sternum strap for a brown one because I love how well the defy handle complements it. I love this color way so much that I’m hunting down a GR2 in the same color. Thanks for checking out the video, I appreciate you 🤙🏽
Thanks for the detailed reply!! If you ever do get your hands on the GR2, would love to see a review on that too
@@alexchen99 I have a GR2 in xpac, it’s super nice but I love that Robic material so much that wanting to switch it out.
@@UnPackDhow would you compare the robic material to the XPAC? I actually had the XPAC GR1 but the zippers were so hard to open and close I returned it
@alexchen99 yeah zippers are stiff on but that has been fixed with the latest restock this week. Xpac is really nice I just prefer the softness and look of the Robic. It almost has a heritage vibe of canvas but the techyness of the cool fabrics like xpac
I see these as useful/worth the money if you have some chronic condition that requires you take meds daily. Our pills all come in blister sheets (yes, even prescription meds, you just need to show the prescription to get them) so I carry some pain killers, antacid, diarrhoea pills and mild cold meds, together with some bandaids and a few condoms in an Alpaka Zip Pouch - that's my travel med kit. I always have 70% alcohol too, but that's in a dispenser hanging on the outside of my bag, since I also use it as hand sanitiser.
@@houserhythm yeah these are very cool, use for vitamins but they do add considerable weight to my load out. Trade off because they’re a joy to use and look at 🤣
Nice review Chief

Great review, how would it compare with bellroy venture ready sling 1.5 litres
@@nizamialickolli8603 sadly I don’t have the Bellroy 1.5 but I’ve heard that the venture series runs small. I have the Alpaka 1L coming. Need to get me some Bellroy slings.

Could you squeeze it into the personal item box?
@@Uncle_Red if you under pack, yes but will still take some effort as the frame sheet is 2in bigger than the box. But yes technically you can
@UnPackD , thanks!
@ anytime!
This in a regular Evergoods 840D or 420D shouldn't cost more than the PLC20. That one even has more pockets and an actually padded laptop sleeve and it's $150. But $350 for such a simple and small bag, even in waxed canvas, is kinda outrageous. I really like the blood orange and wanted to get a CTB26 in it, but I'm a heavy sweater even w/o a backpack on, so I wasn't gonna get something with a completely non-breathable back panel and straps. I also have 3 CTB26's already... I think that's quite enough 😅
@@houserhythm heard the waxed canvas back panels run super hot. Wise choice
Imagine drinking a shot on every "lasagne"... great review, man! :)
@ hahaha or “ as you can see here” 🤦🏽♂️🤣. Thanks for checking out the video! 🤙🏽
They could have made this a roll top and have it me 100% waterproof, like a dry bag.
Probably would’ve been better that way
I was also a Goruck hater, up until earlier this year, when I saw a DC 18L Bullet for €150 and thought I wanted a smaller bag anyway, so I'll give it a try for that low a price. I'm on my 6th Goruck bag now... 😅 Still think they are overpriced considering what basic features they lack compared to other premium bags, so I'll only get a Goruck if it's heavily discounted. Luckily they often have discounts.
@@houserhythm hahaha same! I have way too many but all mine I purchased used but they’re definitely expensive. Rocking a GR2 today 🤙🏽
@@UnPackD Forgot to mention I don't have a Mt. Rushmore, but I have a top 5 and it feels like we have similar taste in bags. My #1 is the ULA Dragonfly 36L in Ecopak (less crinkly than Ultra); the other 4 are in no particular order the Kaidan 3.0 GR2 (this one I don't own, sadly), because no rain flaps, the GRXC2 GR1 Samurai cause I think it's the most beautiful looking bag ever made, the CTB26 in Xpac with coyote interior, and the PD Travel Backpack 45L in yellow Xpac because it's so spacious, feature rich and configurable (I also find PD PU coated zippers to be the best in the business, even though they aren't YKK - their #10 PU coated runs smoother than a #10 YKK w/o PU coating)
@ wow we really have similar tastes in bags, Ecopak (epx600 recor) is quickly becoming one of my new favorites. I actually WANT the Kaidan 3.0 because it doesn’t have the rain flaps. That’s why I’m rocking my GR2 Kaidan 2.0 today, no rain flaps. I have the Phoenix II CTB26 so xpac with orange interior. Sadly though I found the PD travel backpack to be uncomfortable under load. It met the chopping block long ago
@ I know many people find the PD uncomfortable. I have no issue with it… maybe it fits me better because I’m 6’4” Might be getting them mixed up, but I’m pretty sure the Kaidan 2.0 GR2 doesn’t have the top quick access pocket; I can’t live w/o at least one pocket for my phone, keys, AirPods
@ GR2 Kaidan 2.0 does have the QAP that’s the bag I’m using today. I’m considering selling it for the Robic version. The QAP is tight because that pocket does have rain flap and aqua guard zipper. Plus no webbing on the straps so no sternum strap
I love this bag! Got it in olive waxed canvas and it feels amazing. 3 Things I would change - a zipper at the top to access the lid pocket from the outside too, w/o undoing the fidlocks and make the laptop compartment identical to the GR1, cause that fits my 16", while the M23 doesn't, had to get the 26L in order to fit my laptop. 3rd one is just a nitpick concerning the waxed canvas - would like a leather bottom for it. Sadly the M24 is already out and they F'd it up big time - no more quick access pockets on the sides, no more elastic sleeve on the inside... Edit: I'm 40 myself, but you don't look a day over 25
@@houserhythm 100% agree with you, they ruined the bag with the M24 updates. Should’ve done one external WBP and kept the 2 side access pockets. A top pocket on the outside of the brain instead of the inside would’ve been clutch, just like the Trakke Bannoch Pro. I love this bag, I’m thinking of grabbing the 26L. Just saw one pop up for $150 used, I’m trying to have some restraint 🤣.
@@UnPackD I got the 26L waxed canvas for $195 brand new, on sale on Gurck's site.
@@houserhythm appreciate the compliment, my first grey hair came in this week, it’s all down hill from here 🤣
What would you your top recommendation for a none clamshell backpack within 18 to 22L?
@@mahdiali6732 oooo that’s a good question, my favorite is the GORUCK M23 21L. Exceptional comfort, top loading with side access, internal water bottle pocket to keep a clean silhouette and imo, just the right amount of internal organization.
I do welcome competition. Recently V3.0 had QAPs as standard and then Goruck followed up not too shortly after. It breeds a fair price point and competitive changes for the consumer.
@@Kwisss valid point, hopefully CT making thoughtful changes here does keep pushing some of the other brands to follow suit instead of keeping the same design and changing more.
watching this in 2x speed i love the energy
@@EleosAnim 🤣🤣 this is the way!!!
I want one. Except the one I want are all sold out. 👎 Never in stock. They're NOT a copy! The designer who designed the GORRUCK also designed the CT21.
@@kkasavu3149 yeah I know they used to get a lot of heat or accused of being a copy. I don’t know the whole backstory tbh. What I do know is that this bag is definitely different, lots of useful changes for sure. I’m so lost on all the different models, which one you after?
$85 for this well constructed and designed of a bag is wild. I've no use case for one (would be nice to see a 30L in the future), but this is a clear Goruck killer in my eyes. No sense in paying >$300 when this exists?!
@@BiggDeli yeah dude all name brand materials and solid construction makes it a for sure contender. Lots of little things that make it real nice.
Excellent point about the strap not being "slippery" and having grip. It's the same reason I prefer the old-school full 1000d Gorucks vs the new 210d back panels.
@@ttg808 very valid point, for me 1000D is to grippy 🤣 it would catch my shirt and make it ride up constantly. I do like the 210D but it is slippery AF. I guess 500D would be the perfect choice but it’s gets dirty and has a tendency to collect dust and lint. Pros and cons to everything I suppose.
Another great video John!!
@@NightShift_EDC thanks!! 🙏🏽
I just got the CT21 Assassin second hand. My Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6 15.6 inch gaming laptop barely fits the laptop compartment. I can get the zipper around the bag but it's very tight and worrisome. The squared off edges of my computer pushes against the aquaguard zippers and I'm scared of it damaging my laptop if it's dropped or bumped up against the wrong way. It's very unfortunate because I was so excited to use this bag with my laptop but I moved the laptop in the main compartment of the bag.
@@Ryko000 oh man that’s does sound scary, I’d worry too. I need to look up the assassin looks like, I’m not familiar with that one.
@UnPackD it's extra fresh. ThePerfectBag has a video on it. Black n red is superrrr player.
